Boyd Tower - Historical place in Merrimbula, Australia
Easy walk from car park. Dont forget to have $8 cash on you and a pen to fill in and pay the National Parks envelope. Interesting old tower landmark. Be carful and stay on the path provided as the cliffs are dangerous here. Definately worth a visit.
Would have been great to see, only thing is that it’s under construction for repairs till August 2022
Great defined track to get to the Tower. Dirt road 2 WD access, well graded. Once here its a short walk then it’s beautiful views out at the tower and an interesting piece of history.
Great landmark and beautiful Outlook. Just about to have a big renovation so will be a really worthwhile trip.
Lovely historic site, pitty it is not being maintained, you cannot expect people to pay to be there if the tracks are closed to tourists
Boyds is worth visiting if only for the views. The tower is in disrepair but an interesting visit.Around 15km off the highway along mostly paved road folowed by about 800m of dirt road
The pics speak for themselves.
Its worth the drive to see this tourist spot and read about its history. The nearby wharf is also well worth visiting when its open to the public. We also went to the old Davidson whaling station nearby, which was totally worth the drive along 4 kms of dirt track to get to. If you do go to the whaling station, be sure to take some insect repellent with you, as we all got bitten (a lotby sand flies on the small beach near the cottage. It was still worth seeing though, so dont let the sand flies put you off visiting this spot.
It is always great a surprise to come across with such a build standing in far remote place. It is fair bit of distance to drive from the entrance of BenBoyd National Park. Nature around is awesome. It has great beach view.
Interesting history, great photo opportunities & watch out for the local goanna. Easy walking path. Take cash to pay for the National Park fee($8.00), as there is no electronic means to pay for it. Also take a pen to fill out the envelope.
Absolutely amazing peice of our history on an incredible coastline. Add to it that it is still standing after the bushfires, this place really is special
Beautiful Spot and well worth the visit to learn about the history of the area.
Amazing tower and history
It is an incredible place from where you can observe the sea and in the whale watching season you can see them jumping in the blue of the sea.
Spectacular. How the did they build a structure to withstand natures every mood out there so long ago.
Short walk from the car park to Boyds Tower. Very well preserved sandstone tower and amazing history of this local landmark. Recent bushfires have cleared the area around the tower providing amazing views of the ocean and Twofold Bay across to Eden. Well worth a visit.
Close to the car park. Few metres of unsealed road. Bathroom available. Need to pay for the parking. Nice view, good for whale watching too.
What an amazing story about this lighthouse that never was. Private lighthouse built by Ben Boyd however the Government would approve it to be lit so it became a whale watching platform. Follow us on IG @caravaninglife
Wow that so tall. Also nice view! No dogs though which is fair.
I am glad that the fires didnt hit the Tower but they did hit the surrounds unfortunately. We have seen Whales in Nov jumping in the sea below, its ironic given the Towers original use. This is how I recall it few years ago. Hopefully the Bush regenerates.
Very short walk from parking, beautiful view! Hope they can rebuild the stairs which damaged by the bushfire!
Great landmark and historic icon of Edens former whaling history. A must see, and easy to access.
Great views and excellent story about the tower. Unfortunately there is no information available on site due to the fires 12 months before. Do some research before at Eden info centre.
Lovely spot, very peaceful . Easy access and the tower is quite impressive.
Nice place awesome view. Parking fee $8.
A little piece of England on NSW South coast! Easy walk and nice views from the tower area. Cant climb it and area recovering from massive bushfire - it went all around here
Must visit-One of the most beautiful place i have ever visited. Spanning over 50sqkms ben boyd national Park is simply amazing, picturesque ocean, filled with lush green trees, awesome drive to the benboyd tower. Get lost in this national park, can do cycling around the national park.Lighthouse is a must visit. Camping can be done at some parts.
A fabulous site, but the real highlight is the lovely view back over the coastline.Note that this area was impacted by the January 2020 bushfires, so certain areas and trails are not yet operational.
A great headland to view the ocean. At the right times of the year you can see migrating whales. Headland looks different ever since the bushfires have removed all the trees and shrubs. Amazing to think that people managed to build such an amazing tower out of stone all those years ago.
Stunning ruin. Amazing history. Sea views are really something.
Mixed feelings about this one, such a beautiful point, whales breaching, seals, Eagles and birds fishing. The Boyd tower reminds of a period in history which Im glad is over however you have the wood chip mill on the headland next to you. I cant but think that in 50 years we will look back and say the same thing about the mill. A part of history which I will be glad is over. The logging in the state Forest on the way to Boyd tower is not sustainable.
Spectacular views of Twofold Bay and historical Eden. A must when visiting the far south coast of NSW.
Nice bit of history amongst some stunning views of the coastline. Definitely worth a visit
So sad to see the devastation on this headland after the 2020 summer fires. It will take a long time to recover. Beautiful views up and down the coast.
Pretty awesome place to visit with great panoramic view of the bay and Eden. It’s a bit off the main route to get to with a short walk, if you time it right you’ll have it to yourself! On a stormy day during sunset you can get some great shots on your still camera
Incredible building of Sydney sandstone. They sure knew how to build in those days. Such a shame it was never used as a lighthouse.
Great spot to view Eden and see some Whales.
Really easy 350m walk from the carpark on a maintained path. Nice historical placards placed along the path. Toilet at the carpark costs $8 for access, pensioners free.
A bit of Aussie history. Its an $8 park fee. Pay cash via a honour system so take a change.Short walk. Good viewsBush toilet opposite car park
Gravel road to this tower great coast line views
Great historical site
The tower is very impressive, but its not just about the tower as the views along the coast are spectacular.
Lovely area to walk aroundYou cant go up into the tower and some walking paths closed due to renovationThis is a must stop and see
Great view over Twofold Bay from historic whaling station lookout. Was a bit misty in the early morning, but can just make out Eden on the other side of the bay.Built by pioneer Ben Boyd in 1850s.
Beautiful spot, intriguing history - Boyd Tower is definitely worth a trip. Loved the "Light to Light" coastal walk as well, no need to do all of it, you can select the stretch thats right for you.
Interesting historical site. An easy walking path. Informative signage and good views of the ocean. Be aware there are National park fees and is a good place to start bushwalk
Landmark located on a beautiful headland. Interpretive panels provide interesting background to the tower and its history.
Beautiful views, and an interesting historical site. Would be great if the tower could be climbed, however overall well worth a visit!
interesting landmark though it could be even better if it was possible to enter the tower. A short walk from the car park
Amazing workmanship and architecture, important part of the local history, well worth the effort to see.
