Boston National Historical Park in Jamaica Plain
Description
Privilege
Great place to see a ship from the 1700s and the 1900s. Fun to roam around the ships and see how it feels to be a board.
MoreVery cool experience on the USS constitution. I was there for a wedding. We had a private tour and watched the bride and groom shoot the cannon at sunset. Beautiful.
MoreYou can walk on and tour an actual world war II destroyer ship
The tour on the USS Constitution was eye opening. The ship was pretty close in quarters and the deck was amazing
MoreI knew the history behind the vessel. However, a guided tour would be more helpful to others.
MoreFreedom trail provides a decent tour of monuments in Boston. Definitely worth a visit. Approximately 4 miles total from beginning to end and back. A lot of construction and some spots that lack signage but overall worth it.
MoreAwesome place! Visits to the USS Constitution and USS Cassin Young are a must! Beautiful ships with great histories.
MoreKnowledgeable, helpful staff. My 5 and 6 year old grandchildren trotted up 294 steps with no problem. I needed several rest breaks. Its the same stairway up and down with just enough room to walk by someone coming the other way. The view was OK but remember, "its not the destination, its the climb."I was a little sore for 3 days but Id do it again - but not soon!
MoreGreat sights. The Constitution was a must see.
This is a beautiful place you also can take a free ferry right here
So cool to be able to wander such a well preserved ship
Well marked bike lanes all the way into the grounds from Cambridge side. The couple bike racks we found seemed too few though empty. There were other places we locked up our bikes.
MoreGreat place. Friendly staff!
Didnt get to enjoy the whole park. Will be back for sure.
The USS Constitution was so cool to go on. We got to see the quarters and the cannons
MoreHad a great afternoon looking at historical ships. It was a great open area, easy to get to and view everything. The ferry docks here so you can arrive and depart by several ways. We did not ride the ferry. It would have been nice if they had some shaded seating areas. They did have a water mist for the heat.
MoreHad a great time , actually being able to go on the boats and see everything was really cool.
MoreHistory is awesome. This is all part of the Freedom Trail. Old Ironsides was very cool and accessible and was pleasantly surprised to see the lower decks. Free to board the ship which was a nice surprise.
MoreWas a very good view of the skyline of Boston was disappointed that the U.S.S. Constitution was closed though.
MoreGreat place to visit and learn about USS Constitution and tour it. The ships were free to enter. Great history lesson. Clean and quite beautiful on the Yard. Beautiful visitor center with great gift shop and facilities.
MoreThe USS Constitution - such an amazing ship! The crew are great to talk to, and the ship has access to 3 levels! It takes you back to yesteryear, the museum is great for added information as well! Well worth the stop!
MoreThe USS Constitution is amazing to look at and take pictures of. Well kept and pretty accessible everywhere, minus the employees only area. They check your bags and make sure you have gov ID on ya.
MoreCame with the Naval Academy so we got a bit more in depth tour of the USS CONSTITUTION. It was fantastic! As a sailor, I particularly appreciated seeing how sailboats once worked. However, I think anyone visiting would find the boat very interesting. Very knowledgeable guides on-board.We also did a self-guided tour of the USS CASSIN YOUNG. That was also very interesting. Its a WWII era destroyer, and according to the extremely knowledgeable Park Ranger, the Navys most produced class of ship of any kind.Didnt do the museum, but its apparently highly rated, but did go through the Visitors Center. It was small, but very interesting, regarding the history of the Boston Navy Yard.Highly recommend all.
MoreAbsolutely beautiful location to visit if you want to get some good pictures of the Boston city scape
MoreIt was lots of fun exploring this ship. Very helpful and informative crew. If you are over 56", watch your head below decks.
MoreMy family really enjoyed this experience. My kids all loved climbing to the lower levels of the ship! They were able to navigate the steep steps well at ages 5, 7 and 10, but younger children or people with disabilities may not be able to access the lower levels. The guides on board were knowledgeable and fun to talk with. No food or drink allowed in the ship area.Masks were required for the museum building (there were some provided at the door). Bathrooms were available inside. The museum didnt really hold my kids interest, but its hard to stay excited inside when theres a ship outside!
MoreThis located in several areas of Boston.First there is the old north church in the north end next to the Italian district.as well as Paul Revere house in the Italian district.Across the river is The Bunker Hill monument just above Charlestown. Also included is the USS Constitution on the river with its massively tall wooden masks. There is so much history to Boston especially the colonial and revolutionary War sites.Bunker hill is a beautiful site on top of a hill with a lot of history. And the old north church has the old lanterns from Paul Reveres ride to warn of the British troops that were coming. Lots of great history if you or your family is interested.
MoreGreat open air museum! Great view of the bay and Boston! Historical site showing the history of the American Navy. Self-guided frigate tour and enjoy the ocean breeze!👏👍
MoreAbsolutely worth the trip. Free admission to the USS Constitution ship. It is an active US Navy ship crewed by Navy personnel. Be prepared for to have ID and be safety checked for weapons. No pocket knives and such. The crew members encourage questions. Enjoy!
MoreGreat place to explore, travel, and learn. Many many places to go, learn about history, and explore tangable tours. We visited the Navy ships and USS Constitution ship while also going through the museum. Gift shop inside as well.
MoreTwo historic US Navy ships on the Freedom Trail and a cool nautical museum in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Dont forget your camera! Take a ferry over, its a nice trip across Boston harbor. Bring lunch and sit on the lawn and people watch. Visit the ships and museum and learn something new. The USS CONSTITUTION fires a cannon every morning at 8am and at sunset. Thats awesome in itself.
MoreIncredible stop . Interesting to learn about historic ship and listen to the stories about its colorful service record. Meeting the new captain was a highlite of the adventure. All the crewmembers we met were anxious to tell us about all the different things we saw. Very interactive and a must see stop in town.
MoreMuseum staff were really welcoming and new their stuff. Its well worth a visit if you are in the area and want to brush up on naval history, but the importance of the area to the nation. There are regular tours of the constitution, given by the crew themselves. This gives a great insight to what it would have been like aboard the ship.Theres some pretty special views of the city from there too.
MoreIts exceptional for NPS to attribute this park in the national historical title. The entire park includes a wide range of locations from downtown Boston to Charlestown across the river. Especially having all these commercial retails, office buildings, and residents neighborhoods, its a remarkable amount of work to manage and maintain the whole park as one unity. Its just once again honor the history and American liberal spirit.
MoreGreat to walk the Freedom Trail. Seasonal and COVID closures were highly disappointing. Boston was clean and beautiful
MoreGreat place to visit and its free! We were able to walk through 3 levels of the USS Constitution. Amazing site to see!
MoreA lot of history here. Everyone should go see Old Ironsides for themselves. USS Constitution built in 1797 still floats. Super cool to see!
MoreAbsolutely awesome experience! The city is full of history. We walked the freedom trail, which really is so easy to follow. Walking allows you to see every thing up close. You can stop along the way to sit on a bench and absorb your surroundings as well a find a place for a drink or food. Locals were so helpful and friendly.
MoreI parked at the Boston Commons which was easy to get into and out of. It brings you right up into a park at the beginning of Independence Trail. Following the trail was extremely easy with well marked path and locations of each historical site. Grab one of the pamphlets available at one of the visitor centers and follow the trail. Boston is very nice town and quite friendly. The USS Constitution was the highlight of the trip. The line to see the Liberty Bell was over an hour long but you can go around the side and see it through glass with no wait.
MoreFree tour of history, your tax dollars at work! The oldest commissioned warship still in service. Staffed by active duty sailors in period costume providing great information. Was my Fathers Day request to visit and even the teenager appreciated it!
MoreA must see if in Boston. Rich history. Beautiful historical buildings in the middle of the city. The Freedom Trail is a "Serious Walk" if your up to the challenge take water and have good walking shoes. There are other ways to see these sites by bus or guided tour.
MoreAwesome park with beautiful flowers and trees. There was a bridge, ducks, 2 swans, great landscaping, statues, and tasteful street performers. Great for an afternoon wak, sit on the bench to reflect, or observe the birds and nature.
MoreWhat History! If youve never been to Boston this is a must see on any trip. Lots of history here and a great place to take the kids to show them what our countrys past was like. Enjoy!Hey if this info helped you in any way please like for me. God Bless!
MoreBoston is amazing! I absolutely loved being a tourist and walking the freedom trail to discover and learn about Bostons rich history. This is where it lead us! Bunker Hill. The park is very well maintained and its beautiful here. I only wish the museum was open a little bit later. Missed out on it because it closed so early.
MoreVery cool to have the opportunity to literally walk through our countrys history. So fascinating to hear and read about the people, the buildings and the ships that helped to shape the United States. I really appreciated our historians taking the time to make these monuments and memorials accessible to people of all ages.
MoreGreat museum and visitors centre. Lovely condition tall ship, as a Brit we took some ribbing all in good nature. Great to see serving navy personnel giving to the community and supporting USA history. Some facts, quotes and traditions quoted differ from the English which is interesting.
MoreAwesome way to spend the day exploring while getting a little history lesson as well. Follow the 2.5 mile trail and see how Paul Revere warned the city! Easy walk and you can finish across the bridge over by the USS Constitution museum and catch a water taxi back to Battle Wharf where the Coast Guard is stationed!
MoreWe walked the entire freedom trail. Its a long walk bit well worth the time. You get to see different parts of downtown and a lot of historic sites. We enjoyed the trail which is easy to follow with the different color bricks showing you the way.
MoreI have thoroughly enjoyed all the historical visits I did in Boston. Staff was helpful, very well informed and pleasant. All areas were clean, well indicated with some information which were useful to visitors. Boston comes across as a charming city that is well looked after and full of character. Definitely the highlight of my summer holidays in the US.
MoreThis is a really special treat. This museum/ park site containing the USS Constitution is a must see. The ship has a sense of importance as you pass through metal detectors and a welcome center orientating you.The ship itself it gorgeous. So much of the original ship and materials are there for you to touch and see. The sailors are super knowledgeable and can tell you so much about the history of the ship. The ship is such an important part of US Military history, its so neat that theyve preserved it for generations to see.
