Bon Bon - Restaurant in Portimao, Portugal
Amazing. Food was out of this world - both tasty and beautiful. I think the restaurant deserves a second star. Was better than some 2* we tried. Atmosphere and staff was also very friendly. I must admit - this was by far the most memorable and nice experience in Algarve for us. Thank you very much Bon Bon
Highly recommend for foodies and wine lovers. We had the 6 moments and I did the wine pairing ,my wife 2 wines by the glass. The service is polished without being pretentious. The food was outstanding in flavor and artful presentation . This is an expensive experience but worth the price.
Wow! Amazing. An absolute highlight of our most recent visit to Portugal. The six course menu was just the right amount of food. The experience is about so much more than just the food though. The restaurant has stunning views, the ceramics are from the Bon Gaard gallery and very typical of their style and furniture from the Wood Spirit Gallery. The food was carefully considered, introducing new flavours that are local to the region and beautifully presented. The wine pairing was an excellent selection. The best wine pairing I’ve tasted. This should absolutely be in the running for the worlds top 50 restaurants.
The service was terrible! we were contacted to confirm our reservations. Our family was excited so we drove to this restaurant which was out of the way from our VRBO rental in Algarve. Upon our arrival at Bon Bon for our reservation, we were waved off by the maitre d who informed us they no longer had seating and were closed due to a change of weather (although it was sunny and hot all evening). No further explanation or accommodations were made. Thankfully, The Windmill Restaurant in Albufeira had a cancellation earlier in the afternoon and was able to seat our family of four, where we enjoyed the best dinner during our entire stay in Portugal (and stunning views too).
Carvoeiro is a bit of a cultural void with beautiful beaches and lots of just average dining choices. Bon Bon made up for all that with the most incredible meal I had in the country.Staff was super friendly and efficient. As soon as we got to the restaurant, we were seated within a minute. We had the top tier lunch tasting menu and the first dish came out quickly. The other dishes also came out like clock work. Every morsel was delicious and well worth the price. Each dish was visually appealing in addition to being gourmet.Having spent weeks in Portugal, I was so ready for an upscale meal at Bon Bon. When I went to the supermarkets, even the high end Apollonia, much of the produce was from Spain or beyond. It was nice having a meal where everything on the plates were locally sourced. The outdoor seating area affords a great view of Monchique towering from afar. The afternoon I went in early June the heat was already sweltering and just a bit hot for my comfort but thats dining al fresco for you.Should I visit Carvoeiro again, I would love to have another dining adventure at Bon Bon.
Delicious lunch for our 40th wedding anniversary. The owner offered us a glas of champagne. Extremely friendly staff. We’ll come back…
#bonbonrestaurant#oyster#octopus#tuna#monchiquesausages#prawns#algarve#michelin2022# it was not as good as I espected,, maybe a matter of taste....I love fish but not like this,,, I was hoping to have sea bass, shark, sole, much tuna, trout, white hake, golden horse makrel.... but well it was my husband that made the resavation .... and I love redwine most,,, but here we offcause had whitewine. The sommelier was fantastic....very good wines
Fantastic food, incredible host, an experience to be repeated. Thank you Nuno
Absolutely blown away by the whole team and experience of Bon Bon. Visited for my birthday, and the team made it a fantastic occasion. The food was outstanding, with an abundance of flavour, exquisite presentation and some surprises thrown in, thank you to the wonderful kitchen team. Nuno was first to greet us (we were a little early... very eager!such a welcoming man and very attentive at every step, the rest of the service staff were brilliant too, not a step wrong! A thank also to the sommelier (apologies, his name I have forgotten!), he recommend a great selection of wines to us, we loved the bottle of Redoma Reserva so much we have been trying to find a way of getting a few bottles back in the UK!.All in all, an absolute must as a dining experience - I would good back no questions asked. The best dining experience I have had for a very long time.Thank you all so much again, and wish all the team future successes as Bon Bon.
My sister and I came to eat here and it was lovely! The food is great and the staff is exceptional. Everything is very beautifully presented. Would love to come back one day in the future to try the dinner menu. Thank you Nuno and team!
Had a wonderful birthday dinner. Very enjoyable culinary experience, among the best in the area.
Fantastic lunch. The food was great the wine pairing excellent and the staff perfect. Can’t fault the place. Can’t wait to try their evening tasting menu
we strongly recommend this restaurant. The environment is quiet and comfortable. Food is great and staff are so friendly. We booked this restaurant one hour earlier and everything was prepared properly when we arrived. They took good care of the pregnant and everything was cooked. Nuno even gave my husband some recipe for his rhinitis. We had a great time. Thanks a lot.
This restaurant is superb. The 9 course tasting menu is the best I’ve tasted from any Michelin starred restaurant. The wine pairing perfectly compliments each course and the service is without fault. Thank you Nuno and team. It was an evening that we will never forget.
A great experience in fine dining. The service, tastes and presentation of the food was top class. Having said that, we have eaten at similar establishments with the same quality for less money. A little overpriced!
Perfect spot for lunch with a fixed tasting menu of 4 or 5 courses. Choose wine pairing for mouth orgasm.Portuguese style - not too heavy - and top notch service. Do NOT go here for lunch if you are the type of person who crave a ton of food to feel satisfied. Im a fitness type of man and for me the portions are just right. Besides, for those who crave starch, the home made bread /butter selection is world class. Cant wait to return...
This restaurant is divine! The staff is very attentive and no details get forgotten. The food is unbelievably delicious and the atmosphere is beautiful. This is a must try in the Algarve!
Excellent food and service, great wine knowledge, intimate and not pretentious, definitely worth its star and a trip!
Amazing quality of the food and great service. The food is not only great but as well really creative, things that you would never have anywhere else. A place to go for all people passionate of fine food passing in Algarve!
Had the most amazing New Years Eve 14 course dining experience. Food was exquisite and the wine pairings just enhanced every mouthful. The perfect venue for a special evening. A massive thank you to José, Nuno and all their team who made our evening so special
We just love it?!! People, wine, food... all!
A well deserved Michelin star restaurant. I took my girlfriend there for her birthday and we were both blown away by each course in our 9 moment menu. My compliments to the chef for the amazing meal. Wonderful professional staff that ensured we knew everything about each course. Top Restaurant!
Amazing food. Good service and great vegetarian tasting menu
Our lunch was excellent, the wine also excellent, the service again excellent. Book a table and enjoy, its the fusion of food, flavour and art.
This was our first stop on our honeymoon night. We ordered the 9 moments with wine pairing. Everything was delicious. The wait staff was very attentive, provided all the details for the foods and wines.Would recommend a cab / Uber if you get the wine pairing 😊.
A very Portuguese restaurant! Lots of fish but little variety. The menu presented in the restaurant and the waiters only informsyou about some surprises from the chef. This is usual in this type of restaurant but here they were like 5 surprises I think in total. Most of them are served before the actual dishes. I dont believe that the customers of this type of restaurant are interested in quantity but in quality. From my perspective, fewer surprises but more variety of ingredients would be more welcomed. For example, several dishes contained cauliflower. After all the fish dishes (I think 5 or 6came the first meat which was lamb with really unflattering chickpeas. We found that dish really fat and so heavy after all that fish. Weve been at several Michelin restaurants and we felt that the dishes worked well one after another, there was one veggie dish squeezed in as well, but not here! The sweets were as expected in Portugal extremely sweet. The waiters English was quite poor and they were using Portuguese words to explain the dishes. Overall, we feel that this was an overpriced experience compared to the quality. Also, 6 euros for water at this type of restaurant is a bit too much.
Incredible from start to finish. If you have read a negative review, disregard it. The food, wine and service were all amazing. Compliments to the entire team 👏 thank you all.
We made it our last night dining experience before our return to the states. We wish we had gone sooner. Might be the best dining experience weve ever had. We did the 6 Moments with the wine pairing and were blown away but what transpired right in front of us. The creativity, thinking, inspiration and joy that goes into this event is a wonderful delight to enjoy with someone you love. We were blown away by the tableware and the stemware and how it contributed to the taste and enjoyment of the food. Each of the Moments were devine. The wine pairing made them mouth watering. The service was impeccable. They find ways to sneak in additional mini Moments and you just feel so well treated yu cant wait to tell others and of course return. Enjoy!
Incredible food and service. From the first moment you enter, your experience will begin. For me it was something new, but the longer the evening went i felt like this is the type of restaurant experience i want.I would return to continue the journey next time.
We had an AMAZING meal there with the wine tasting. We had the opportunity to try some of the best product of Algarve (shrimp, olive, ....)The wine was perfectly adequate to the meals (the search for the wine is thorough, and the taste was up and higher than expected)Nuno knows how to handle his restaurant, and deserve his ranking !
Wow, what a restaurant! Very good service with delicious food and excellent wine pairing.I tasted the best of local and artisan Portugese food, paired with fantastic Portugese wines and with a beautiful sunset on the Montchique. The manager and sommelier is very friendly, as are the other waiters. The chef and his team make fantastic dishes and still stay very down to earth as we met him the next day on a food festival.Definitively worth visiting.
Pros: The restaurant is located on a quiet place, has a peaceful terrace where you can see the Algarvian hills and offers a long variety of wines to pair with the menu. The menu is a well elaborated trip through starters, fish and meat with an interesting presentation. All staff members are attentive and quite correct.Cons: I thought fair to give all positives in advance as this place is by no means a bad restaurant. However, we are here to judge a Michelin star place and that´s when things needs to be addressed under a different point of view. I started my Michelin restaurant journey many years ago, travelling through different parts of the world looking for that fresh unique experience. I have been lucky enough to enjoy Ramsey´s cuisine in London, David Muñoz in Madrid, José Andrés in Miami and so many others over the years. I feel BonBon is missing soul when it comes to deliverance. All seems to be in place but there is no fun to it. Dishes are served on an orderly manner but it all seems mechanical, artificial, unbranded. Waiters (which I want to stress are great professionalsseems stagnated on the old french concept of servitude without barely talking, using a low tone as if we were in a church or an opera house and dressed with classic 50´s jackets. We are in Portugal, they could have added some of the great portuguese humor, charisma and emotion whilst attending the tables. Sometimes I just felt they belong to an assembly line like robots and I am sure they have much more to offer. There is no story behind the dishes, only the presentation and the ingredients but not why and where all of that came from. Tables are dressed with sobriety and no uniqueness is worn into them, just a white cloth and that´s all about it.Pricing seems to be unbalanced also, the average meal is 140 € which does not include drinks. There is only one fixed menu, no further options, no alternatives to it as if it was produced during the day and is a matter of preparing dishes giving a catering flavor to it. I appreciate the huge effort on bringing a long list of wines to the experience, but perhaps some signature cocktails and more sparkling wines will be appreciated (this is a minor suggestion)Finally the views are uninspiring, yes they have a terrace but is mainly looking to a parking with private houses on each side of the road, could have much potential to it if used differently. All things considered, if you are looking to challenge your senses I strongly advice to try other Michelin restaurants, however if you are in the area and you don´t mind the price, this is a good restaurant in Algarve but for me it misses several key aspects of Michelin standards.
Amazing! The food is extraordinary and the wine pairing is great.Excellent service.
The venue is cosy and the food (quality and quantityis generous. To be fairly honest, I was expecting a little bit more out of flavours, but mostly out of the service, for a one star Michelin restaurant. The owner was speaking with all besides ourselves and we just had some time with him upon payment ( I would expect that having 6-8 tables and during a 3-hour dining he will check in on us). We also said when we did the reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary, but unfortunately, they completely forgot about this aspect, and no good wishes or special detail was provided. We also asked for a replacement of one ingredient, in one of the 9 “momentos” but unfortunately this request was unattended. In general, and being peaky, given that we are taking about a one star Michelin restaurant, the experience was below my expectations and I felt it was over priced given the experience provided.
Excellent restaurant ! have to say, I enjoyed every single bite of our 9 Moments , and plus the chef surprised us with few more wonderful dishes, great experience!! The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. We got smart help with the wine pairing, service was delightful and very professional. 10/10Absolutely deserves the Michelin 🌟
Very nice experience and most importantly delicious food! Staff is very friendly and especially the restaurant manager Nunu was amazing! Thanks for the night and sorry for being the loudest table! 😅
I have eaten in quite a few one and two star restaurants by now but eating at Bon Bon today is definitely one of the most memorable dining experiences Ive ever had. They prepared a vegetarian menu that surpassed my expectations by a long shot. The compositiond, the flavours and the presentation were superb. The staff was highly professional and the whole evening went completely smoothly. It was an absolute pleasure to eat there and Ill definitely go there again next time Im at the Algarve.
The tasting menu is an experience.I feel that they offer an extensive and encompassing insight to Portuguese cuisine. If anything I felt that it was playing on this motif a bit too much. All the usual hits were offered, it wasn’t until the last few dishes that I felt that there was something new or interesting. The execution of the dishes is excellent. The whole team are well oiled and orchestrated operation. The service, presentation and explanation was without fault. I found the sommelier and her apprentice very keen and helpful. The view was a touch of a let down as it could have been a real postcard. It was just ruined by a residential area right in front of the restaurant.I can see why this place has a Michelin star, to me it just felt like there was something missing.I do highly recommend paying them a visit though as you will certainly enjoy it.
We would highly recommend the four course lunch with their suggestions for wine to compliment each course. The service and presentation were outstanding and we savoured every morsel. What a way to celebrate our first vacation (four weeksin beautiful Portugal!
Very calm and beautiful atmosphere, the food was of high quality and the service was extremely friendly. We went there to have lunch, and in addition to the menu we got some little surprises from the kitchen, like a delicious pre-desert.We had a great time and would definitely recommend this location!
Beautiful presented in artist craft . We have six moments all are Delicious I believe the bonbon will get 2 stars soon !
Wow. Spectacular food with incredible depth of flavours and variations. Fantastic wine. Very friendly staff who were approachable and not judgemental in any way. If you love food or just want a special treat and if you have been to a Michelin before or aspire to eating there then just go here as it sets a fantastic benchmark. If you just want an authentic Portuguese experience at an incredibly high level please just go as this restaurant needs your support.
The food is unbelievably good, both in quality, creativity and presentation. Complimented by an excellent wine list and a fabulous setting. Rounded off for the better by charming and professional staff.
Very nice starred restaurant and it deserves the Michelin. We tried the lunch menu which just launched in May. All the ingredients are from the local. The flavor and the presentation are also exquisite. The plates they used from Studio Bongard are almost the art pieces! The boss has good taste. We will be back next season.
Great place to be, excellent creativ Gourmet food. Perfect Service.
1st class and superb service. Sincerely recommend if you love fine food and wine. The sommelier/owner was very engaging, warm and welcoming all night! Thanks for a great evening!
Amazing restaurant. Well deserved Michelin stars.
Everything was just perfect. Lunch menu was actually simple and a bit basic, but considering price, quality and creativity of food, beautiful plating and cozy atmosphere and so on, having lunch here was fantastic and unforgettable experience. The owner and staff were quite gentle and professional, who served dishes delicately and gave lots of useful information and recommendation for a perfect meal. Ive tried many Micheline stared restaurants for decades and posted food reviews in the local newspaper, but this is one of great gems and hope to revisit soon.
Bonbon delivers hospitality at its best. Very warm and caring service during lunch hours. The food was above what was expected and showed great technique without getting to fancy. "Simple" and understandable food that made us happy. We will be back for sure.
As a Michelin star rated restaurant, Bon Bon lives up to its reputation. We were treated like kings, with impeccable service and presentation. We chose the 7 course menu. Each course was prefaced with a small sampling dish. The food came to our table in a way that felt more like an art gallery. Service was fluid and food was fulfilling.
