Bois du Cazier - Museum in Charleroi, Belgium
One of the best museum experience! A must visit for all ages. Thanks to a great audio guide, recordings of a former miner and his sister let you introduce you the life of miners and revisit the tragedy of Marcinelle and its lessons for the future, as you walk through the places which became both source of glory and shame for the country. Very moving. You cannot walk out indifferent. Could not keep my tears.
Very interesting place, well explained history of a hard time. The place is not far from Germany, but nearly nothing is explained in German language. Available languages are Dutch, French, English, Italian. More than 100 victims of the catastrophy were Italian miners.
Bezocht 1april 2022.
Beautiful mining site with a lot of attention for the mining disaster in 53.
Nice place to understand industrial changes and get some information about 1956 tragedy.
Too bad, you could not descend though.
Toplocatie.
Well preserved reminder of the mines. This is a heritage site.
Staff doesnt speak English at all, but the place is worth visiting, as it is the important site in Charleroi history as an industrial and mining city.
Very nice experience. A lot of history about the machines and industrial revolution. How Europe became the hub of industry, that can be seen here. Someone who is passionate about history and science must visit the place.
A place full of (sadhistory. Not to be missed if you are in the Charleroi area!
Beautiful, awe inspiring, vivid memories of our industrial past
A very interesting and touching museum. Its a must if you want to know more about emigration and the bad episode happened in Marcinelle. Alain Forti and Placido did a very good job!
Very nice museum, you should definitely take an audio guide, its a nice story and makes the museum a lot more interesting.
Very nice place for take pictures
A truly unforgettable experience. The exhibition is intelligently plotted, not by piling up eye-openers, but by revealing the meaning carried by the place. I was surprised by the fact that even a humble-looking iron gate or yellow stairs can be so emotionally evoking. I really like the miner familys Nissen huts, God bless those women who turned prisoners camp into lovely homes. The video presentation of the industrial museum is great (an English version is available, please turn to the staff.).The audio guide is informative but could be more concise and slower if I am not being too nitpicking. My mother tongue is not English nor French, I find it hard to follow sometimes.I also have a question, what is the name of the ending song of the video played in the memorial hall (sounded Italian to me). This song, with those victims faces flashing by on the screen, made me unable to hold back tears. The song is haunting me, Please tell me.
Great museum. All information is in 4 languages (Dutch, English, French, Italian). Be sure to take an audio guide.
Amazing site. But not all exhibitions are equally great. Still definitely worth a visit.
There are 4 historic coal mines in Belgium that are listed together under UNESCO as Major Mining Sites of Wallonia. The other 3 are Grand Hornu, Blegny Mine, Bois du Luc. The 4 mines were selected to play a particular role - Grand Hornu for its architecture, Blegny Mine for its know-how, Bois du Luc for its social life, and this Bois du Cazier for its Memory. Here are the Industry Museum, Glass Museum and 8th Aug 1956 Memorial apart from the Coal Mine.
Nice tour and well maintained. Audio guide recommended for the kids.
UNESCO site of industrial heritage. Staff is very polite and helpful. Definitely worthy of your visit. Amazing to think in what conditions people lived and worked to provide energy for the country. It is also a place of a human tragedy which took lives of several hundred people.
incredible landscape, hiding painful disaster, impressive buildings- a must, near Charleroi. These people will be newer forgotten.
A preserved coal mine that was the scene of Belgians worst mining disasters. A very moving audio visual presentation, plus lots of industrial exhibits. Of course, being Belgium, a nice small bar with a selection of local beers.
Very interesting!

A historical place, turned into a beautiful and meaningful museum.
Nice place to visit and remember the sacrifices miners have to make.
A+
they speak only French
A very nice place with a great and very interesting museum!!! A place to visit in Wallonia!
Beautiful interesting place to go.
I loved seeing all the machinery, how it works and what its used for. Gives a lot of insight in the industrial revolution. This museum made my visit to Charleroi worth it.
Amazing site. Participated to the day "Sport Terrils pour Tous" with the kids early June. Had a lot of fun!
Memorable
Nice nature place and a interesting museum ...
