Beautiful state park which is a DESIGNATED HORSE PARK. Because it’s a horse park, it would be nice if people wouldn’t dig holes and leave them. Not even safe. Make sure you’re keeping an eye out for the horses and giving them the right of way.

I had never visited this park in all my life, I should have sooner, wide open beach to let your dog run until they are exhausted. Try it out.

Beautiful place to walk on the beach and not nearly as many people as Cape Kiwanda.

As of mid March the path to the river trail was flooded so I didnt get to see that part. The sinewy trees near there were very cool though. Other than that this was another chilly stretch of Oregon coastline, could have been anywhere on the coast. If youre nearby, sure, check it out. I wouldnt go too far out the way to swing by here though, it isnt the most unique chunk of coastline. Id recommend Sitka Sedge a little further north for a more memorable outing.

It was windy and wet while we were there. But not that cold. The waves were magnificent and the clouds ever shifting. We took our shoes off and luxuriated in the light sand. There wasn’t a lot of flotsam and jetsam from the storm. Barely a thing to pick up and wonder over. But that was OK because we were on to more adventures that day. I got to take my best friend from high school here, it was the first time that she got to see the ocean in person. She was giddy with delight and I don’t blame her.

I will always love the oregon coast, even if the water hurts until it numbs my feet. This is the only beach Ive ever known and I dont mind. Super foggy, windy, lots of dogs, not busy

We visited during the nasty heatwave in June and its very nice when the fog retreats offshore. Great place for your dogs no matter what weather. Too bad the ocean water is cold. I only went in up to my ankles. An alternative to Cape Kiwanda which can get a little crowded on the weekends.

BEAT THE HEAT!!!Bob Straub State Park sits in Pacific City and is an excellent state park that offers beach access, as well as plenty of great hiking trails, as well as horse trails. There are also some incredible panoramic views of the Pacific Coast. You can even watch as vehicles drive on the nearby beach, which is pretty cool to see!!!

Perfect for beach access but the trails are not maintained and are loose sand. We took the beach down to where the marsh trail and bay trail meet and took the bay trail back which was a huge mistake. Loose sand was hard on my knee and we were terrorized by mosquitos.

Nice beach, was super windy but the short area of dunes provided a place to play for our little kids with a windbreak.

No trash cans or bathrooms at the moment due to covid protocols I suspect. But otherwise, this is a great place to hang out on the beach or hike some Oregon Coast trails

The best place for horseback riding on the Oregon coast! Bring cash for the day use parking at the boat ramp area ($4and don’t be afraid to leave your trailer parked there all day. Explore many miles of forest and beach trails. Ride along the top of the dune ridges with an amazing view. Don’t forget to start your ride tracking app when you set out, and drop a pin for your location in case you get lost!

Went on a 5 miles hike. The trail was not well marked. We felt like we were lost the whole time. It felt like we were following a deer track. We saw 3 deer, but no other people on the trail.

This is NOT GOOD FOR HIKING. No trails other than deep loose sand. Im a hiker and that was my purpose is coming there so Im marking it with just one star. It may be a great place for staying on the beach, probably it is. The restroom is pretty clean. Pretty surroundings.

Make sure to check the Tide Tables!! This place is best enjoyed at low tide!! You can walk the 2.5 miles on the beach to the Nestucca River and back. There are tide pools at the very end where you can spot some sand dollars!! You may also see stone eagles if youre lucky!!The view of Chief Kiwanda Rock is spectacular and makes for a dramatic backdrop for your photos. Going in the off season has been great as the coast is packed in summer and during holidays.

Wonderful place to go for walks, lots of trails going south and the parking is just over the dunes east from the beach. If the parking on the beach crowds arent your thing, this is a great alternative, much quieter down this way.

This area has plenty of beach to go around, want to be with the crowd go to the cape, want secluded beach go a mile south and park then walk over the dunes at the end of Pacific Ave or in Bob Straub Park, find your personal Beach area. You can also go a mile North and down through the woods to more private low visitation parts of the Beach. Half a mile further North and you find beach front parking you can park your motorhome along and have lunch with a beachfront view from your own kitchen dining table.

My kind of park! Not a city park, but a walk with wildlife that has trails that look over both dunes and bay. Beautiful! I was riding a horse through this park, and it was a wonderful place to ride! :)

Gorgeous park located right beside the sand dunes and ocean. We carried our beach chairs and picnic up to a pretty spot with a panoramic view of the area. Twinkling your tootsies in the ocean water and relaxing to the sounds of the waves rolling in and out.... highly recommended!!! ❤️💕

This is a lovely place for a walk. Free parking and bathrooms. Its a short hike over a dune to get to the beach but easy walking after then. Theres some trails through the dunes and lots of people take their horses on the beach. We went on a nice Saturday afternoon and it was a lot less crowded compared to the beach closer to Pacific city.

Easy crabbing at the mouth of the river. Calm enough water for kayaking. Most days it has a good break from the wind.

Beautiful! Access to trails superb. Easy walkable trails. Definitely a nice walking destination for all the family to get out and enjoy our natural beauty. Grandparents down to the youngest member of the family can get out TOGETHER and enjoy walking, listening and witnessing the beauty of nature.

This area is a lot less busy than Cape Kiwanda. Equally beautiful views though. The rolling fields of grass are a stunning sight. The Rock in the distance is an incredible view as well. This would be a perfect place to spend an evening and have a camp fire.

Lovely beach area, & I like how far it is from the Cape Kiwanda area but yet still so close. The atmosphere in this specific area is a lot more calm then just a bit north and it’s definitely more for the quieter activities like sand dollar searching and such

Ive always thought this was great place to park with just a short walk to the beach. There is a restroom( open seasonally), and trails if u would prefer a stroll of the dunes. These trails are also open to equestrians. Overall great place!!!

6 miles or so from parking to mouth of the river and back. Beach is flat. See lots of drift wood. Seals swimming at mouth of river. Dive behind large drift wood if you have to pee. No service at mouth of river. Of course you can drive down beach to river mouth but then you wont benefit from the 6 mile walk.

We love it here. We try to walk all the way along the beach to the nestucca outlet at least once when we visit. Whilst the weather today was misty, windy and grey, we had a nature show that was a treat... Seals coming up close, bald eagle, heron and lots of sandpipers to look at.

Great beach area. We went and rode horses on the beach and through the trails there. Could use some improvement or additional trail signs, as we had to turn around a few times to find the correct way back to where we started.

We arrived on a unusually hot day for the Oregon coast. This state park was not as crowded as others in the area. The parking lot had plenty of space, the facilities were all operational and fairly clean. The little hike up to the crest of the dunes and then down to the beach wasnt too bad. Sand filled our shoes quickly! The beach had a nice long expanse and was clean. We had a nice view of Haystack Rock out of Cape Kiwanda. All in all you couldnt ask for much more.

We took a nice walk from the parking lot to the end of the spit on the Pacific Ocean side going south where we encountered a group of 25 sea lions-beauutiful day for Febuary. On our hike back, we decided to avoid the wind that had kicked up on the Ocean side and hiked back on the Nestucca bay side. We ventured into the dunes and eventually came upon horse trails in the wooded area. BE AWARE that the horse trails are poorly marked and difficult to navigate(marshland and densely wooded area, and unmarked forks in the trailmaking it nearly impossible to cut across to either the coastal sand OR the bayside walk. Overall, a great adventure, but lacked good foot trails through the wood areas. I would recommend staying on the sand and keep your navigation easy!
