Butlers Wharf, 28 Shad Thames, London SE1 2YD, Colombia
Market-led Modern European menu in a casual setting with Tower Bridge views.
Great location. Had an office party there. Great service and food but very noisy - bad acoustics and very bland decor.
We found this place as my group wanted to have a little bit of a fancier dinner while visiting London. We saw their three course menu for only 25 pounds; it even came with a glass of wine! We made a reservation and took the tube over. Unfortunately, there wasnt really a direct bus line that brought us there and had to walk about 15 minutes. However, the view was amazing as we walked along with a beautiful view of the London Bridge. The restaurant was in almost the furthest corner of the whole line. When we arrived, I told the staff I had made a reservation, but they looked at me very confused. The host finally came and seated us. It wasnt busy so it was fine, but my group still felt like confused why they acted the way they did. Anyways, this place has a beautiful view of the skyline and bridge so it was very lovely. We ordered the chicken terrine, cauliflower soup, and mackerel, risotto and sea bream, and the rice pudding and orange sorbet. For the wine, we were just given the option of red or white. The food was amazing. We were super impressed and happy that we were able to do such a meal without hurting our wallets. When we came to pay, I had put some of my coin pounds in hopes to get rid of them, but received even more coins! It seemed that the host didnt have any single pounds and it was pretty cumbersome. I think that the food here was great and amazing, with a beautiful view. However, service was a bit unwelcoming and made us feel uncomfortable. I would come back again for the set menu though.
Excellent brunch menu on Sunday. Up to the usual standard. Nice and relaxed with view of the Thames.
The views from blueprint cafe are amazing and I could see how people may enjoy a drink here. However, I found the food to be bland here. Mac and cheese had a weird bitterness to it whilst it would need a deeper stronger cheese to give it balance. Risotto (with king prawnstasted very bland. Charred mackerel was good (besides one side not being fully cooked), however, the sauce it was in could have had more of a punch and the cucumber base could be cut into shorter lengths to allow for ease in eating. The sea breams taste was completely stolen by the not so fully cooked potato base. It is just the fact that the potatoes bland bittery watery taste just cancels the flavour from the bream. Finally, the vanilla rice pudding was quite nice - light, vanilla rich with a rhubarb sauce. The sorbet dessert, however, was good but ruined by the very very sugary almost jammy base which tasted like it had fermented into alcohol. The service times were quick because there were only like 5 tables being served. The waitress should be more domineering and should lead the customers right away to a table, rather than for us to guide her there. Ultimately, the cafe wants to charge the same as other high end restaurants whilst not living up to those expectations. Would I come here again? No. Did I like the view from blueprint, Yes.
A perfect Valentines Day meal framed by a stunning view of Tower Bridge and the Thames. The food was delicious and even though it was our waiters first day you would never have known it. The service was impeccable.
Very nice view, but the food is just ok. I had the mushroom risotto with tenderstem broccoli. and French toast for dessert.
This is such a great place at lunch, when its quiet and you have a lovely view of the river. I love the brightness of this place.. it doesnt feel crowded, the menu is simple but delicious, its perfect and uncomplicated.
We ate here as a family (all adultslast night, taking advantage of the excellent value Evening Standard menu - £15 for 2 courses or £20 for 3 courses with a glass of wine . I think this deal is available until 7th Sept, but friends say the pre-theatre menu is the same menu and also well-priced. Ask for a window table as the view (Tower Bridge and the riveris spectacular. The food was really excellent, especially the pork belly and the hangar steak. Allegedly the beef & coconut curry (with chips!is legendary but sadly was off-menu last night. Pecan fudge tart for dessert was also delicious. The restaurant is casual with very friendly service. Its in a lovely and quiet location on the river beyond Tower Bridge. I would highly recommend and well be back.
A very recommended restaurant and with a very good location. With some original dishes and a mix of flavours that had not tasted never before. The guests remained all in loved with this restaurant. Definitely next time I visit London will go back. Relation quality-price is acceptable, maximum if we compare it with the prices of london restaurants that do not serve fast-food. A time expecting different courses reasonably normal. Thank you chef amb workers of the Blue Print Café !
75th birthday celebration fell slightly flat. Very small menue with little choise. Place looked a bit tired and only a few diners. Food was just good enough but not anything to sing about.
Very very affordable but still very tasty 😋 Amazing views as well
This is an excellent choice for a restaurant with a river view. The windows are floor-to-ceiling and you can see Tower Bridge in one direction, Canary Wharf in the other. The room is airy and smart, the staff are welcoming and on the ball, and the food has always been very good every time I have visited. And if you choose the set menu, you get a very good bargain indeed. Highly recommended.
We booked a table for their Evening Standards menu offer - 2/3 courses for £15/£20 including a glass of white or red wine. The menu was slightly different to the one on their websit but still there is a choice of seafood, meat and vegetarian mains. Some dishes are lighter then others. The pan fried seabream served with an orange salad was a lighter main than the belly pork with red pepper & chorizo. Both was nice dishes although the seabream for me was bit over cooked. The belly pork was nice and tender, with the crackling pork cooked at a lovely texture. The reason i gave it three stars is the service was too slow and not much at all. We had to constantly get attention of staff. Also our sides took ages to arrive instead of coming with our mains like other tables. Also there was a very small hair in my lemon posset which we scooped out some of the mousse. Otherwise, the food was nice overall. Do recommend to sit near the window for a riverside view. But definitely not on a hot and very sunny day. It will feel very hot. The restaurant does not have air con even if you dont sit near the window.
Was very underwhelmed. Why? The service...absolutely atrocious, took ages for us to even order. The first time the waitress actually approached us without us having to spend 10mins waiting was to give us the bill and tell us the kitchen is closing. What makes matters even worse was that the place wasn’t even that busy!Food was great though! Such a shame about the service. Also, we asked for champagne and they didnt have any- only had “British Sparkling wine”. Don’t order it- tastes hideous, is expensive and is a low quality attempted copy of an actual champagne. All in all was dissapointed. Don’t think id be willing to go again. Was also very difficult to sort out a reservation as the person handling the phone could barely speak English and kept getting the time and number of people wrong. The place has a fantastic view- but its not worth much more. I wouldn’t bother visiting. You can get the view from any other place on the same street that will provide you with a far superior experience. Avoid.
The service is good enough, but not expert. My date ordered the scampi to start, followed by the bream. Glad to see she was pleased with it.I ordered the duck risette starter, then the lamb rump. Neither were edible, and I am by no means a fussy eater.Had a great date, but only for the view and the company. It seems to me that this place is reliant on locale rather than cuisine.
Really enjoyable place with beautiful view towards the city of London and the London Bridge. The breakfast was well presented and really good. To try!
A small-ish cute restaurant with an awesome view over the Thames and Tower Bridge! Prices are okay, given the location. Food is delicious. Staff is absolutely brilliantly polite and friendly. A reservation is recommended. Perfect for a date, a meetup with friends or family or to dine alone even!
A cosy place with a light atmosphere to enjoy a coffee or a meal appreciating a beautiful view to the Thames River. Good service and delicious food. A tasteful Sea Bass fillet and a yummy Polenta dishes notntoo expensive.
Riverside views/ seating, large glass windows that give you a panoramic view of London, the website allows you to book in advance with relative ease. There are lunch and seasonal offers on food. The food served is tasty, made with care and you can take your time with your meal as the (very friendlystaff let you enjoy meals in peace. The food is very good value for money and the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is lovely.
Very nice place with an extraordinary view to the bridge. For lunch it’s kind of quiet with a very casual service. Nice menu.
Delicious food, friendly staff and awesome views.
I must admit I was a little anxious booking this place for Christmas Day lunch after reading some reviews however from the moment we rocked up, our group of 4 couldn’t have been more impressed.Greeted with a smile, coats taken and sat with drinks. The place was decked out in Christmas decorations and the view was lovely. Food was absolutely delicious and we weren’t rushed to move off our table either. The bill was a little pricey but overall I’m very happy and would recommend
Great location, a beautiful view. We were in for the Christmas menu. The personell seemed a bit overburdened. The soup was great, the three stars are for that and the view. The remaining part of the menu was mediocre, and it was not possible to get a milk for the coffe before it got cold. Should be better for a 50+ menu.
A place with a great view. Food and entertainment was good as well.
I didnt have to pay for this meal but if at the end they had asked, either you can give one of your arms or you can go back in time and not have this meal, I would have said, which arm?
I attended a supper club and Chef Patel, he & his crew treated us like royalty. We enjoyed the Beef & Beer evening. A collaboration with Small Beer Co. It was a great match (as you would expect). Chef Patel showed his flair & training with multiple mouthwatering dishes. The steak tartare was one of the best dishes Ive ever had.Prime steak, finely diced, mingled with roast sunflower seed, a hint of kohlrabi, pickles and nasturtium leaf, set against a foil of sweet mustard on the side.Dishes were matched with different beers and beer cocktail the pairing knocked my socks off. The whole event ticked boxes I didnt know I had! I have to say sensational taste and value. Complex flavours delivered brilliantly.
Lovely venue, and great wine, but food not up to scratch. Limited party menu (fine), good choices, but mackerel starter was only 1 fillet, and a slice of beetroot instead of the 2nd. Steak options were medium or well done, no rare/blue available, and it wasnt the most tender. Triple cooked in dripping chips very poor, no crispiness and didnt feel triple cooked. The 90s called they want your chip arrangement back. Puddings fine, but could have been bought in. Cheese plate nice, but a little unimaginative (cheddar, blue & brie). Bread and wine both delicious, and staff attentive, if a little slow.
Great views over the river. However, let down by not so great food and some poor service by some. The evening standard set menu was poor value for money (especially compared to other venues offering set menus). The burger was essentially a slider and the charcuterie starter extremely small (3 small slices of chorizo and something else spicy). Whilst the main front of house person was good, the rest of service consisted of plates given to the wrong people and, when corrected, slid over by the server with grumpy mumbles. The red wine wasnt great either - low quality, not matching the headline menu description and with aromas of carbonic maceration which we didnt like.
Just had dinner at the BLUE PRINT café and it was delightful and the city views terrific. I was curious as to why the burger listed on the menu had a sub note indicating that "the burgers were cooked thoroughly" so I asked the charming and helpful hostess Katrina if I could have my burger medium well. Folks in England prefer meat to be well done as I had already experienced. Although she said cooked well done is the way burgers come, she said she would ask the chef especially for me. Low and behold I got my wish and had a perfectly medium well pink burger. This was special and very much appreciated for both Katrina + the chef to grant my wish. My partner and guest also had superb meals. We will return,
Its a pity that tasty food is let down by the very slow service. They said they were very busy but half the restaurant was empty. We felt ignored by the waiters and let down by the tiny helpings. Unfortunately the burger was also not close to the pink which we had requested.Beautiful setting but there are cheaper and more professional options
Lovely location. We went for the set menu on a moderately busy evening. We found the waiting staff largely attentive. Unfortunately the service was let down by the food. The portions were ashamedly small, the salads very salty and the treacle tart took 20 minutes to arrive and tasted glutenous and was cold. If the set menu is meant to entice customers back for the A La Carte, than it hasnt worked for me. Wont be returning unfortunately.
Food tastes much better than how it looks. Presentation is simple and almost borderline pub-like, but the marriage of all the different flavours was excellent all the way. Views are incredible too. This is much better than I expected, but service is woefully slow and feels as if the waiters are so stressed out by how they arent able to cope with the orders.
Great views and a promising starter salad. Then the mains arrived. Small portions, but okay. My other half ordered the burger - “most popular on the menu” - but was told off when she complained about it being too salty (usually she likes extra salt, so super salty!). Very awkward with the waitress when the bill came with the burger still on it...Generally the river front is a stunning place, but we seem to be stuck with D&D restaurants all the way along (Blueprint is one). Not sure when exactly, but prices have gone up, and service and portion size have gone down. Chophouse (also D&Dis probably the best, but not really value for money compared to what you can get elsewhere in London. So doesn’t surprise me the restaurants are half as busy as they used to be, but as a local it’s a shame.
Excellent food, impeccable service provided by Carla and her team; she spent time to explain the restaurants concept and was very obviously proud of the head chef and his food - its so nice to feel valued as a customer! The restaurant had a very nice ambience and deserves to do well. The views of Tower bridge are truly amazing!
ridiculously small portions at inflated prices. Asparagus soup was actually quite nice but very small portion. The "cauliflower" cheese I had as a "big plate" was very disappointing, small portion of under-cooked "cauliflower"with bits of feta plonked on top, not much of a sauce at all. The place trades on the spectacular views, cant understand how anyone could give their food a positive review. Had to have more food afterwards at home. The place is a rip off. Avoid!
This is located in the old Design Museum on Shad Thames. I havent been back to this area since the museum relocated, so I was interested to see how theyd used the space. in a word - great. The dining area has full height windows overlooking the Thames and Tower Bridge and the City, though unfortunately we werent able to bag a window seat this time.We went on a Friday night. The cafe was busy, but not packed. The staff were very friendly and professional. The place had a very relaxed vibe. The set menu had a good range of dishes. Our meals were brought to the table by the chefs, as well as the front of house staff, and we could see the food being prepared through the window to the kitchen. Two of us decided on deserts as well, though this was a complete indulgence because we were full. We ummed and arhed about ordering some side dishes, but in the end didnt which helped the pudding decision.Recommended
Good place, suffered from closure of design museum, but has reorganised to provide a British take on tapas, with friendly front of house and excellent chefs who both deliver your food and remove the plates after, the net result is great feed back in both directions.Wonderful idea.....Well worth a visit.
Attentive service and nice to have the chefs come and greet us and ask how our meal was. Portion sizes could be bigger for a sharing plate experience with friends.
I am reviewing this restaurant again after being there yesterday. They have changed the chef and the menu. On the positive site the view is still amazing and the service has gotten better. However the food/ portions has gotten worse. We all starved and paid ridiculous amounts of money for it. If you offer tapas you ought to be able to provide a portion big enough for people to share/taste. That’s not the case. It misses the while point. I would love that this restaurant got better. I enjoy the view and the fact it is never too full. But I doubt I will be back again.
Eating here is quite a confusing experience. The chef and the food are wonderful and should be commended. In addition, the views of the Thames and Tower Bridge are amongst the best that can be had. However, the concept of modern British tapas fails horribly as none of the dishes are conducive to sharing and the cost of most the dishes are prohibitively expensive for the small portions provided. Not to mention the complete lack of atmosphere and decor. The food looks and tastes like you’re dinning at a top establishment but everything else falls woefully short.
I love this restaurant. Its one of my mums faves as its round the corner. The views of Tower Bridge and the river are unrivalled; the staff are friendly and very professional. When we first started going Jeremy Lee was head chef and he was on that pioneering wave of nose to tail eating affording dishes such as delicious lambs sweetbreads. There have been many changes since then; currently, I am a little doubtful, but I will go again before elaborating.
Very expensive for what you get .. waitress was lovely and provided us with exemplary service ... would have been a five star review hadnt it been for the portions and the price ... your paying for the view... amazing
Great views and good food, service was a little slow and seats a bit hard.
Visited this hidden gem in London after a recommendation from a friend. The food was spectacular, the service was above average and the views were breathtaking. I dined with a pescetarian who was also delighted with the menu and his chosen meal. Before departing we were sure to pass our compliments to the chef....Highly recommended!
I will start by the positive: there is a really nice view of the Thames and Tower Bridge. That being said, the service is so poor. I rarely complain about service, however I have never felt that neglected in a restaurant. We felt like we were causing trouble when ordering a drink. The waitress couldnt be bothered. She even left the restaurant before we were done, she didnt say anything. Its a real shame for such a great location. Food was ok, nothing special, just average. I will not be going back nor will I recommend this café.
Fabulous all around. Soused Herring with beetroot and horseradish was delicious. Beef Wellington with mash and greens beans was amazing. Christmas Pudding with Brandy Sauce to top it off. The service was on point! Highly recommended.
The view was pretty spectacular - "pretty" not "completely" because there were those white bars standing in between the windows, hindering slightly the imposing background starring the renowned Tower Bridge. The food was mediocre and the service was nice, but very slow. Like very very slow. So slow that I almost ended up missing my train. Aside from that, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a casual meal, featuring a stunning backdrop.
Great location and views, sitting almost above the river. Friendly service and interesting menu, midrange prices - set dinner menu of two course 20£, three courses - 25£. The raw beef starter and oxtail tortellini were amazing.Great place for dates as you can visit a design museum exhibition before the meal.
Good food, nice views. Service was a little bit odd last time we went. (The menu is not extensive, but when one of our group asked what "supreme" meant, the waiter just shrugged and said "it means nothing, its just a way of putting it on the menu". I would expect the staff to know better in a very established restaurant like this.)
The Blueprint café offers a fantastic view of the river and the city, we were also lucky enough to see the Tower Bridge lift in action. We went for the set meal which is very affordable (2 course for £18 or 3 course for £23), my starter of Eggs Royale was great and so was the lamb steak. My dessert was however quite underwhelming so I suggest you go for the 2 course meal and grab an ice cream somewhere else.Overall: good food, good service and a fantastic view. Give it a go!
