Dans Caudan Water Front, Port Louis, Mauritius, Bel Air Rivière Sèche
Charming museum with stamp, coin & art exhibits devoted to the cultural heritage of Mauritius.
Not visited, entrance fee is too much and no information about museum available for which it is built
Great museum to visit even if you are not a stamps guy. Beside the world famous blue and red Mauritius stamp you can visit a nice exhibition on the history of Mauritius.Keep in mind, that the blue Mauritius stamp is only visible for 5 minutes per hour because of conservative reasons. At our visit it was from xx:20 pm to xx:25 pm
Okay, could try harder, shop overpriced
A very cool place to visitgood service offered
Nice, clean place. Good spent time
Nice collection of stamps. If youre a tourist or visitor, add this stop to your list of activities.
I have had the opportunity to enjoy The Matisse exhibition and it was one of the most wonderful experience.
Nice too see the history of Mauritius
If you are interested in history or penny collections you can visit this place. There are lots of informations about Mauritius history.
Matisse exhibition - apparently temporary exhibitions are only labelled in French which is a bit of a shame. This excludes all English speaking residents and tourists.
Amazing place. very neat and clean. An extremely good place to take some insta worthy pics or relax with your lived one having food along the bay or just alone. Avoid shopping here if you are looking for bargain deals.
Revived the past, along with the historical information about :The Blue Penny Museum showcases a beautiful sculpture by the artist, Prosper d’Epinay. The history of the different notes and coins that have been used in Mauritius is closely linked to the history of the country as a whole.Get details about the postal changes happened about our local stamps.Views the history of our local community coins from years ago till latest.
Generally am not a great fan of musuems but to my own surprise, i really enjoyed my visit. The musuem is quite small but very interesting for people who are curious by default! 😉
Small museum telling the history of Mauritius. The famous original first stamps are there. The museum lacks exhibits and interactive exhibitions - there are mostly walls of text.
Well its interesting history of island. The stamp on display most of time is identical replica. If you want to see real thing ask staff when you arrive when it will be illuminated. Its a misprinted stamp that says post office on it rather than post paid.
Beutiful and tidy place! Expensive though.
Nice museum details of the history of Mauritius interesting.
Nice museum with Red and blue Mauricius stamps and lot more
Beautifully laid out not too complex yet gives a great feel to the island
Tiny but interestng museum. Nice presentstion of island history.
Review: Visit one of the last stamps of the Blue penny and seed penny. What makes it so special? The misprint in 1847 includes Post Office on the stamps and was soon changed to Post Paid. For conservation, the originals are illuminated only temporarily. So make sure to inquire about the time, when the stamps are illuminated.Parking: non-free parking slot of the waterfront shopping mall
It’s a tip top museum, it has all the old stamps as well as ship models, maps and sculptures. Free to enter, but it’s inside the waterfront, so you will pay for parking there. Worth the visit.
Nice view from here. Good opportunity to know Mauritius history. Umbrellas hanging around gives a good photo op. Prices are little on the higher side
Good
A great place to learn about parts of the history of Mauritius from Dutch occupation all the way to independence. Beautiful marble statue of Paul et Virginie.

Nice place to learn some Mauritian history on stamps.
Good place to learn the history of port louis. If your into stamps then is good for you too. If it is a little hot outside then you can cool off in here as it is air conditioned.
Good place for tourists.Nicely maintained.Things are somewhat costly but worth for visit.Great views.
History and Art of Mauritius. You can see very first post stamp of the world, originated 1840s. Also great examples of first world maps based on sailors and explorers.
You can spend quite a bit of time in here if you read all of the boards and information - theres a lot! Its very interesting and there are a few artifacts to look at, however If thats not your thing or you have small children then Id probably give it a miss. The museum is quite small and I think the price is quite high for the size/content. You cant take pictures once inside either.See previously answered questions for entry prices.
Nice museum in caudan waterfront
Combine art, shopping and food in this place. It has a parking lot.
Interesting presentation, good explanation on Vanille and Rum production process.
I dont think of myself as a philatelist, but I enjoyed my visit to the Blue Penny museum. I learned a lot about Mauritius colonial history during my visit. There is a small shop and visual art gallery. My favorite part was the historic and contemporary photos of Port Louis. I
Huge place for collections of postals and stamps of historic events. Also it is situated in a place of commercial complex with wide varities of food items, yatch ridings, showrooms etc.., and a quality time to spend by the coastal side.
Blue Penny Museum is an old stone build from our Famous Port ,Port-louis ,Mauritius middle of the Ocean.... our Heritage is in our mixities of culture`s,after 51 yrs of independance of the Queen victoria & french & Dutch.come & see what the culture of our mother land that every mauritian should be Aware & been respectful
The Blue Penny Museum is privately owned by the Mauritius Commercial Bank Group. What makes the museum famous is that the Blue Penny and Red Penny stamps form part of its collection. Actually there is an exhibition on Kaya who was an icon of Mauritian seggae music (mix of sega and reggae music), unfortunately he died in police custody 20 years ago.
If you are around Caudan Waterfront, please check the Blue Penny museum . The place not be missed for the traveler who wants to go beyond the beaches and hotels of Mauritius
Amazing stamps.. nice time in museum
Well it surely gives u a hint about mauritius ...well designed ... Stamp lovers would have a good time . Lacked interactive learning or information ... The famous mauritius dodo is hardly covered though .Friendly staff .
Nice place to visit. It is mostly a stamp and penny museum.Place is quiet. Recommended place to visit.Average time spent 30 minutes
Although the place has a lot of information it isnt presented in a modern way. You have to read everything and there are nothing interactive. The place is silent, with no audio to immerse you in what you are reading. The staff dont let you take photos which is understandable, but they even dont let you take a selfie in the gift shop. Would have been nice to include that in this review so you can at least see what is for sale there to make it worth your while. The place should interest people who like old ships and old postage stamps. That is on the top floor. The place also hosted a second level on the ground floor with the Mauritian version of titanics love story. I wouldnt go again and not really my cup of tea. Could have just read the internet if I wanted to read everything and save money. They had old CRT TVs in there that looked like they might have worked 10 years ago, but were not working. Maybe they used to have some interactive or multimedia displays, but not today. Or tomorrow, or next 10 years probably.
Location 8/10Cleanliness 9/10Staff 9/10Historic value 9/10Cost effective visit 5/10Overall experience 7/10
I did not go to the museum itself but to the waterfront. Expensive place with nothing much to do. Waste of time. Fortunately were in a small group and we were able to find the others and head out early.
This is a must visit place in Mauritius if you want to know about the history of the place and the islands nearby in additional you get to see some good historical artefacts.
This is must see on Mauricius to have some overview about island history and of course well known stamps. Real ones are enlighted 10 minutes every half an hour (no worries, guide will notify youto protect them. No photo allowed unfortunetally.
Amazing place for philatelist. Its most valuable stamp according to me is the one of "Queen Victoria II" which is estimated to be worth around $4 million. For those who might be thinking of touching the stamp, it isnt possible. Place has been maintained properly for years and has somehow a colonial look.
Great attraction of tourists.it has paid parking and nice location .entry ticket which differs for locals and tourists. Has a free expo of models of all historic buildings of Mauritius. You can also buy souveneir and stamps.
I visited blue penny museum on visit to port louis and caudan waterfront.I read about it TripAdvisor and decided to go as there was nothing left to do on north tour which included onlynport louis and caudan. Its small and nice museum with old maps ship model postage stampsHighlight here is 1853 penny stamps which costs 2.5 million dollars..Souvenir shops has exciting items though costlyEntrance fee 200 murVisit if you are history buff or into stamps...
