Blue Mountains Backpacker Hostel in Katoomba

The Blue Lyrebird has been home for almost the last 12 months and its with a heavy heart that Im leaving.It was exactly what I needed for a period of time that was quite challenging for me personally. It was affordable, central, furnished, safe and secure, and friendly.Wendy runs a wonderful business and I cant imagine it without her. Nothing was ever too hard or too much trouble. She was always up for a chat, making sure that I was okay even when she wasnt on the clock. I work Monday to Friday and always finished my job well and truly after she has finished her work day, however if I needed anything or had questions she would be more than happy to help. In fact, she would even run food up to me if I was sick and helped me with my washing often.My nana passed away and Wendy organised a card and chocolate for me, she also organised a Christmas lunch for all residents - its these touches that made a big difference for me and contributed greatly to the quality of my stay. She has become a great friend, a mother-like figure and Ill miss having her around day-to-day.I would have no problem recommending the Blue Lyrebird to anyone and would be very happy to stay there again.Thank you for everything Wendy and the Blue Lyrebird.

Hi EveroneI am leaving this review as a thank you note to the blue lyrebird hostel team as they were really welcoming during my 6 months of tenure with them.Especially Wendy who is the hostel manager, she help take care of any problems the hostel had swiftly.Would tell any travellers that are planning to stay long or short to truly consider the hostel as an option as it is located at a prime location and the hospitality that is received is great.

Great long term place to stay. Everything you need, good staff and tenants, close to town. Stayed for 9 months and would do it again. Thank you for having me!

I have been fortunate enough to have been staying at the Blue Lyrebird for the last 3 weeks and probably for some time to come.Extremely affordable right in the middle of town, the property has everything that you could ask for and more. I have a spacious, lockable room with tv, fridge, microwave and a desk. The kitchen is large, clean and well stocked with cooking utensils. It has a great lounge room area where the fire is always on, giving a sense of home and cousiness. I can even wash my clothes for no extra charge.The absolute gem in this place is Wendy, the manager. The first thing she did was give me her phone number and told me not to hesitate if i needed something, that pretty much says it all. She is accommodating, helpful, can never give you enough time, always up for a chat, introduces you to other guests to make you feel more at home and is constantly going above and beyond the reception opening hours to make she that the property runs efficiently and drama free. The heart and soul of the place, it would be lost without her.Also need to mention Jane who keeps the place looking sparkly and clean.Thanks for having me and for making me feel at home.

Fantastic weekend stay! Our group stayed in a 6 person family room - the room was very clean, spacious and reasonably priced. The hostel itself has great amenities - with a large common area and kitchen. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we will be back again!

Great stay! The location is perfect, right in the heart of Katoomba, just a quick walk to all the pubs and cafes on the Main Street. Wendy was really accomodating, friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and beds comfortable. All for a very reasonable price. We would absolutely stay again!

Wendy is an absolute legend. We called beforehand because we’re just camping in our van. They charged us $20 for use of the facilities- totally worth it! Hot showers, crackin fire, free WiFi and free laundry! She was even able to get us parked nice and close to the hostel. Would absolutely recommend! Just call before you arrive. Thank you Wendy!

Outstanding stay, warm, clean and very comfortable bed.Staff were very accommodating and helpful.Close easy walk to Katoomba station.Very quite location for a sleep-in.Full kitchen facilities and plenty of space to eat meals.Will definitely be back.Cheap and Cheerful

My friend and I had a great time at Blue Mountains Backpacker Hostel, now called Blue Lyrebird Co Living Blue Mountains. Wendy looked after us very well and allowed us to store our electric bikes under cover out of the rain. The common kitchen is huge and is well equipped with everything needed for cooking. The toilets and showers were very clean. There is a large TV in the dining / lounge area and a large screen in the entertainment room for watching movies. There is a machine in the hallway which dispenses ice cubes. We played snooker in the lounge area. And our room had a good sized TV with a remote. There is plenty of car parking over the road from the hostel with unlimited parking time which is great considering how close to the railway station that the hostel is. And the hostel is very close to Dan Murphys and to a large fruit and vegetable outlet and in general to the shopping centre. The staff couldnt have been nicer with warm smiles.

Warm welcoming homely feel. I had the pleasure of staying here for 3 weeks. Clean, spacious, friendly and conveniently located in the heart of Katoomba a minutes walk from local shops, cafes and bars, only a stones throw away from Echo Point and a great place to base your blue mountains adventures. Plenty of free street parking out front, wifi, massive kitchen and comfortable common room. Staff and other guests were incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, thank you.

We were planning on staying in the back of the van but thought we would try one of the hotels in town, they were fully booked however the owner helpfully let us know there was a room here available. Wendy the receptionist was so helpful showing us some amazing places to go and some great local insight on what to do. The room was comfy with the heaters turned on upon Arrival, there was a fan as well which was great! The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was clean and the towels were nice and clean and they provided soap! We had the BEST time playing ping pong. 10/10 will stay again when we come back.

I enjoyed my stay here quite a lot. The facilities are awesome, because you can always take a hot shower and the water pressure is great. They have a big kitchen with plenty of cooking utensils for everyone to use. Nice big common room with a pool table and a TV for a little bit of relaxation. The rooms are nice and you all have your own big locker so the room doesnt get to cluttered with everybodys stuff. Staff are amazing and very helpful. Overall great stay and would recommend for people who want to stay for either a few days or for a week or longer. This place has something for everyone!

I would always recommend this hostel. The stuff is super nice and always helpful with sight seeing tips and everything else you need. The hostelkitchen is big and well equipped. The dinning room is nice and cozy in front of a worm fireplace. Perfect after a cold winter day in the beautiful blue mountains. Its always clean and well looked after. It has a perfect location close to train and bus stations, city and the tree sisters.

Friendly staff! And a very chill atmosphere. But my favourite part about this place was how spacious and clean the bathrooms and dorms were. The showers had a lot of room in them and a decent bench to put your stuff. The dorms were excellent!! Lots of room for luggage and to pack and unpack your stuff. Definitely recommend!

Great place. Staff are friendly & helpful. Large well organized kitchen. The mattress was the most comfortable Ive ever had in a hostel!!It could use some fresh paint in a few places, but everything was clean and well cared for. Great value. Definitely recommend it.

Really nice hostel. It is more like a mountain refugee than a hostel that its great. The room its clean and bed comfortable, the pillow it is too much soft but this is my personal opinion. I love the very big lockers for all my bags. Showers and bathroom were clean and nice hot water. The common area its great with a chimney books and table games.It has a bbq zone and free ice.The kitchen it is very big. It has free laundry that is great!Bert at the reception help us to organize and decided the best hike routes, he knows a lot about the route and really enjoy mountain live. I really enjoy my time there and I wanted to stay more but the weather going bad the last day.

Great place to stay! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! They give you great tips on what to do in the area. Also the hostel is very clean and the common area is huge and has everything youll need. The rooms are big and tidy. The atmosphere in the hostel is great and very familiar. There is free WiFi and a free laundry.

Very clean. Staff are very friendly. Blankets and towels provided. Comfortable foam mattresses and pillows. Common areas are large with plenty of seating, fireplaces, pool and foosball tables, books and boardgames. Kitchen facilities are large and extensive. Laundry is free and you can do large loads. The rooms are cold in the winter but heaters are provided. Only downside I can see is noise levels can sometimes get high, and showers dont run hot enough. Overall a great place to stay in a beautiful town.

We had a really good experience at the mountain backpacker hostel! We stayed in a 8 dorms bed and we were only two for four days!! We also had a really good deal (cheap). The bedroom are really clean and the locker are big! Which is good.The kitchen is also quite nice!Really worth it to go there 😊😊
