Blue Canoe Bakery & Cafe - Bakery in Salmon Arm, Canada
i was in the picadilly mall this morning when the owner of the Blue Canoe decided it was her right to take up space and sell their product without permission, and i heard that she was in the fire lane, and wouldnt move, all i can say is wow, you have very poor taste, how would you like it if someone set up in front of your business without permission., very bad taste.
I have really enjoyed coming back to Blue Canoe I like experimenting with the new menu the staff is very wonderful and the new owners are great
Me and my girlfriend were on a trip trough Canada and have decided to stop here for a break and a rest in an "artigianal" Place instead of chains restaurant food. Why we chose this one I dont know. Waitress Slow and unkind, I asked questions about toppings and the waitress seamt to be ignorant about her own Type of food and plates, my girlfriend ask for a simple ham&cheese toast toasted and It arrived (after 20 minutescold. She asked again for toast It or grilled it and they Just put It in the microwave oven. Even if my toast was not so bad I cant call it a good rest or a good break. Sorry for this but in my opinion they should improve themself because the cost is higher than the quality. I dont recomend it.
Tasty bakery goods but pricey. Coffee and tea us other drinks. Nice coffee shop atmosphere with friendly barista. Magazines and gazettes to peruse. Big front window for town views and nice patio outside.
Best falafels. Authentic. Rich in garlic home humans and tahinni is off the charts.... goodness by the goddesses of Blue Canoe
Not sure if they were short staffed. Waited 30 mins for our breakfast and got our money back. Hope it was just an off day.
Employee didnt smile once, smoothie my boyfriend ordered they didnt have available, so he picked a different one, he then received the wrong kinfld anyways. I ordered a chai tea latte, wasnt able to get it because a machine was broken so he asked if I wanted it on ice, I received a glass of milk with a splash of chai.Overall waste of money and time. At least the cinnamon bun was alright.
Ive only been here twice over a few years and sadly, though happily open after their posted closed time, after tasting the items I had brought home, noted them to not taste fresh.
Great little cafe, good food and atmosphere. Friendly staff!
Came back for the first time in almost two years and was pleasantly surprised to find new owners and a new menu with lots of yummy Greek food. My lunch was delicious and I enjoyed it on the patio, which is one of the biggest downtown.Update: consistency is a bit of an issue. I’ve been back 3 times now and 2/3 the food was not great.
It was really nice and cute! Okay service and great food!!
Great place that is very spacious despite its modest exterior. Awesome food that was classic (full fat and sugarwhich was fine by us! A little on the expensive side for a classic diner breakfast but quite tasty!
Attended a private event here. Had a delicious Greek Buffet.
Yummy BLT sandwich and bacon and egg sandwich. Black espresso coffee was pretty good, latte came out more like a frothy cappuccino.
Small coffee shop, huge seating area, coffee tastes good. I got an Americano and enjoyed it
Awesome service!! They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions, and the food was delicious :Would recommend a 100%, definitely my new go to place to eat !
Delicious food, a lot of variety from greek food and a full breakfast menu. Everything is made from scratch here, great cafe!
Over priced for the quality. One piece of ham on a 8$ sandwich. Really?
I had a chicken bacon paninii it was really tasty they have good fruit smoothly too
Very delicious and great quality food, they have a ton of verity and everything is made in house! Definitely recommend stopping by! Cute store and friendly staff!
Absolutely amazing food and great staff. If you ever stop by Salmon Arm you must come visit this place!
Excellent lunch and breakfast spot. Coffee ìs top notch. Food is great. They serve the best western sandwich anywhere! Friendly, capable service. Pick up a loaf of fresh bread (my personal favorite...the sourdoughto enjoy before you leave.
Good coffee, great service. They have a wide variety of baked treats including gluten free options. They had one vegan dessert, a date square (gf also). Sandwiches made to order.
Wouldnt recommend. A far cry from what this place once was. The pastries/baked goods look like they were there from the previous decade, sad really.
Very friendly. Artful coffee. Perfect weather this morning to sit outside.
We enjoyed Blue Canoe Bakery twice on our trip. The Blueberry muffins brought us back - truly out of this world. We had a great breakfast on one visit, then had a great lunch on the second visit. The food was homemade and delicious ! The owner - and baker - Mary was super nice. We will definitely be back
Unfortunately, we can’t recommend this place. The coffee was ok but the breakfast was overpriced and of poor quality (esp. the sandwiches).
They did an absolutely amazing job on my cake! Thank you so much to everyone! The cake was a huge success! So very thankful!
Used to be great, very disappointed on this trip through Salmon Arm. Bland food, soup was left over from the day before, a far cry from the quality they were known for. Hopefully they can pick up thier game and we caught them on an off day.
A bit pricey, but if youre in the mood for something a little different and/or craving sugar-soaked Mediterranean pastries, Blue Canoe is a friendly, interesting bakery worth checking out.-- "Mimis Cake Tour"
Horrendous experience. Used to love this place until new ownership. Arrived today and ordered soup and muffins- received the muffins in a bag and when I said we were going to eat in, was asked ´oh, did you want a plate?´. One of the muffins was wrong but the woman was so busy chatting with her back to the counter I had to wait for her to even notice me. Received the soup and my first spoonful hurt my mouth , something sharp. Pulled it out and it was clearly a toothpick, snapped easily with splintered ends. When I told the owner and asked for my money back I said I hoped it hadnt been in someones mouth. I was assured this had happened because the toothpicks used for sandwiches are above the soup so it had fallen in. Five minutes later she returns with my plate and the toothpick covered in soup in her hand to tell me it is actually a bone. Then the cook comes to apologize for the bone that looks exactly like a toothpick. My daughter and I try to enjoy our buns and muffins, she tells me her bun tastes funny, I try it and the butter is rancid. Use the bathroom before we leave, toilet is dirty, sink full of hair and dirt. NEVER AGAIN. I really do try to support local businesses but I felt like vomiting after being there today.
This is an Old review Great little soup and sandwich shop treats as well.. now Under New Management dont know what its like now
Decent food, made to order or counter food options. Fresh bread also available.
I ordered a cake from out of province for my father who lives in town. The staff handled my extraordinary needs with ease and professionalism. Thank you so much for the Gugelhulf cake!
Since the new owners have taken over the service is the same but the prices of the main food are higher and the quality has gone down. The desserts are worth stopping by just for that reason.
Excellent coffee. Soups are good. Desserts are awesome. Try the lemon squares or the bacalava. Nice space.
Great lunch menu, little bit of a wait for some great local food. Grab some bread to go this place has gone down hill in the last year. Was the best spot in town for lunch previously.
Over priced for the quality of the experience. Ordered an americano and had to explain everything to the barista. From how many shots, to yes i wanted hot water added, to the very fact i wanted it in a cup (not kidding). The coffee was ...fine. really nothing special.
A good place to have healthy food and a nice atmosphere.
Comfortable, friendly and non-pretentious. Spacious. Lovely selection of cakes.
Was told this place was great so a month ago we and friends went to check it out.....while we were trying to order the girl at the counter walked to the back and slammed her hands on a table in the kitchen and started yelling at the people in the back room...all infront of us and other customers. We left as i felt this was very unprofessional. My hubby and i were back in town this past week so decided to give them another chance. We ordered beef dip which we were told came with veggies on it and a beet salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and dressing. Our orders came and the beef dip was only meat and bread and the salad had no walnuts and had so much balsamic dressing on it it was too vinegary to eat. The girl at the til seemed to also not be very competent....maybe she was new but no one was supporting her. We will never go back there.
new to the area , thought we would try it out ,,, big mistake .Very ,Very bad service , no one,, I mean no one smiles at all !!!!!! Over priced for what you get . I can not see how it will keep in business the way it is going
Great little stop for bread, pastries and more. Love their teas
It pains many of us to see the fall of the restaurant after the new management. The service is beyond terrible, tables are uncleaned, the staff is rude to both patrons and other staff(arguing over business and issues in front of customers), and there is no tact in service. Additionally, the food, usually expected to be the main draw of a restaurant, has drastically decreased in quality while still getting more expensive. Unfortunately this place is no longer worth the trip.
Well I guess theres an end to all Good things. I used to love Blue Canoe. Their food was great but I dont have the same opinion now. The club sandwich which used to be warm is now served cold and even the bread was not as fresh. The lunches used to come with coleslaw but that seems to have disappeared too... Its sad to see this downward trend.
Neat little place. Everything is very well priced, and theres lots of seating.
Hopefully this will reach the new owner. I have been purchasing bread from here for some time now. Until i met the floor manager, very egotistical, rude and a bully type individual. When i asked her if all people use their bare hands putting bread into the bags her comment was " my hands are clean" what is your problem? That finished my shopping at the Blue Canoe, as I had just seen her 30 seconds prior emptying boxes, and pushing a trollie around, unloading it, to go right to the bread section and put 4 loaves into their bags. She did not wash her hands and she did not put her hand into the bag first to protect the bread from her germed hands. Two minutes later the cashier went over, put her hands into the bag and safely bag two loaves for a customer at the till. Koodos to her. unfortunately the attitude along with the areogance has turned myself and a number of friends away from that environment, very unfortunate because we did enjoy going there when they had pleasant and caring staff, which has been quite some time.
Im not sure what happened to this place. The food wasnt that great last time I was thru. Rancid pecans on the $4 pecan square. Soup was ok.
Convenient, tasty, friendly, local. Great stop for breakfast or lunch on the way through town!
Food is good but slow service... Over 20mins to get a sandwich.
