Eclectic small plates with Asian flair, wine & cocktails served in a hip, convivial atmosphere.
Best fusion food I have ever had, perfect amount of seasoning!
No reservation in advance but you can leave your number when you arrive and they will call you once the table is ready. Great food and cocktail drinks. The server was attentive as well.
We thought we filled up on the appetizers (couldnt stop eating them!but we managed to order some larger plates after that and still finish them! Most of the items on the menu are for sharing and the portion sizes work perfectly for that, but you wont always want to share them (: you wont want to share the drinks either! The house rendition of the Caesar was a delicious complement to the meal itself. The staff was also very friendly and helpful when we had questions or requested recommendations.
Having a hard time finding good food? Look no further, their small plates are a must try! Definitely get the spicy Korean fried chicken :)
This is the cutest little restaurant with some decent wines and beers from the region. There is inside and outside seating and a small bar. I had a tuna poke bowl that was possibly the best one Ive had. My friend had a salad and oysters. It was a bit spend but everything is in this region so Im not complaining. I would eat here again.
Obsessed with this restaurant!!! Went for dinner while on vacation and then ended up going back two more times throughout our stay! It’s small and trendy but very warm and welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing! We tried so many dishes and everything was so delicious. Cocktails are also great! I cannot recommend enough!
A friend recommended Block Kitchen and we were so glad we went! Not only was the food amazing, the portions and prices were definitely on point. The gyoza, steamed pork buns, flatbread, and lettuce wraps were excellent!
Tapas style food to share. The food was good with lots of variety for choices. The portions were small, but adequate.Service was good and friendly. Good was served as they were ready.
We went in Mid August evening. It is a very busy place and popular place in Banff. Great chill vibes to sit in the patio for some drinks and bites. Had the spicy prawns, Korean fried chicken and steak. These are small appetizers type servings and was amazing. Highly recommend this place.
Come to this restaurant to drink at night because its cold in the mountains. The service is warm and the waiting time for a table is very short during the tourist season. It opens later than most restaurants. I can mix drinks according to requirements. I ordered two starter dishes, both of which are sweet and not quite in line with my taste. However, their famous pizza is worth trying.
Every time I’m thinking of where I’d like to eat in Banff, I always come here. The restaurant is a kind of tucked away/ hidden wonderful discovery you have, and when you leave you’re beaming with a story to share. All of the “blocktails” are made with incredible amount of carefully made and considered ingredients, with syrups and concoctions that they generally make from scratch in house. Classics with a unique spin! For me the Margaratin La vida Coco hit it out of the park. There’s also a plethora of wines that compliment the dishes that the Block serves. And Oh- My, the dishes…A fusion of Japanese, Thai , Canadian , touch of Korean, with some house made kimchi to boot. All of the dishes we ordered are amazing, there are two different menus- Lunch and Dinner- and I’d recommend going for both! Lunch offered Burgers to drool for with patties that are made in house, terrific poke bowls, share plates such as the Korean fried chicken, tako yaki, the calamari *omg- unreal calamari* (they are also tapas). I think my favorite dish at lunch was the curry ramen- brilliant dish! There’s tons of plate options for vegetarians, in fact it felt like they catered to us! There was excellent Bao buns with creative and delicious flavors( char Siu Pork belly, vegan( Tofu made in house!!or the Japabao dog! Both lunch and dinner also offered really awesome Specials - like Mussels and Oysters flown in fresh!Dinner menu was catered to tapas as well, I went with friends and we ordered risotto, lettuce wraps, ahi tuna tataki, salmon tartare, the flatbread with pumpkin pesto and goat cheese was amazing, the chop block salad was like the most ingenious salad ever! Loaded with currants, avocado, sopprasetta, cheese, cucumber, and a lovely orange balsamic dressing, my friend had the Zen salad which was also divine, and a refreshing ume sesame ginger dressing to top it off. We had the spicy prawns which were amazing, add in the karrage chicken and some gyozas that were crispy and made in house, like most of the items! The pace inside is fast and exciting and a funky tune drew me in, initially- and I was so elated that I found it! From the various options of eats, the well thought and balanced cocktails, to the experience itself- Even down to the sauces, this place is seriously original and it’s creativity speaks for itself. Must try when visiting Banff! Thank you!
Such a cool little restaurant in the heart of banff. Would highly recommend it. It’s Asian fusion flavors . Everything from the hostess to our server Kaz was awesome. We loved the two dishes we ordered. Loved the risotto especially.. It was so flavorful. They have gluten free options and also clearly marked on the menu, which is always so helpful. We did have to wait like 40 minutes for a table as they are a small restaurant. If you can try and make reservations.
We were first here in Nov and it was good so we decided to check it out again in June. Even better! Vegan options are awesome - the steamed bun, yummy. Risotto, so good! Salad, bangin. Drinks are great, vibe is chill. Totally recommend.
Good food. Great drinks. We liked the chopped salad and the poke was excellent!
Wandered here visiting Banff during an extreme cold warning in January. Did not regret it. We ordered Ramen, tonkatsu, and the Tokyo Fries. I think the 2 mains were special feature items not on their regular menu, and honestly there were so many things on the menu I wanted to try. Id definitely go back!
Pricy but nice fusion Asian restaurant. Good location. Korean chicken needs to be better.
We didn’t quite think through dinner plans and ended up at Block. I’m so glad we did! The drinks were amazing, the food was flavorful and well executed. We had the truffle fries, bao buns, karaage chicken skewers, and calamari. The food was tapas style so you get a little bit of everything. We devoured all of it, me and my family of four. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was fun. I thought Block was wonderfully different from the other food options in downtown Banff. (Pictured are the passion fruit mojito, the before and after, and the truffle fries)
I’ve attempted going to this place for dinner about twice and it had about 30-40min waiting list for indoor seating. However for patio seating on a chilly day? We got to sit immediately! If you follow this strategy make sure you wear warm clothes.I’d say after trying the food and service it was well worth it. We ordered the Asian lettuce wraps, one with pulled duck and the other with pork belly. They arrived with a spicy sauce, a peanut sauce, lettuce, kimchi, and the chosen meat. Crafting your lettuce wrap was simple and delicious. We also tried the karaage and it was very crisp, but it def needed some sauce which it thankfully came with. Also don’t be shy to ask for a straw if you order a cocktail!Overall my favorite place to eat in Banff and I’m glad we gave it a try.
Great food and drink, the large entrees portion size is a little small
100% must try while youre here in Banff! I will fly back out here for the mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, and then stop by here for a great meal. I got the pork belly lettuce wraps and the pork belly bao buns, both deserve high praise. The pork was so tender and flavorful, the sauce in the buns and sauce for the wraps were incredible. The kimchi... I dont like kimchi but I actually finished it all, my wife was baffled that I actually liked it. This restaurant will be on my mind when I fly back to the states, will be back to try more of the menu when I come back.
Restaurant is busy, staff are friendly.Food tastes OK overall.- pulled duck poutine: meat is tender and flavorful, though the sauce is a bit too salty.- katsu curry bowl: bread coated deep fried pork cutlet with curry sauce, on top of rice. The rice is a bit soft and sticky.
Perfect place to pop into for lunch and a drink after a hike! The restaurant is smaller, so it wasn’t great for a larger group, but when just two of us went back it was great. Most of the options were Asian inspired, and very filling. There’s something for everyone, from the wings, to salads to sandwiches!
We shared the salmon tartare, duck spring rolls and three dips with nann. Then we had the calamari, mushroom risotto and the tuna. Everything was awesome.
Had a great time here and loved all the food we ordered! It’s easy to miss this spot if you don’t know about it, and I will be recommending this place to anyone heading to Banff. The highlight for me was Korean BBQ Saikoro Steak; it was soo tender and juicy. My mouth is watering just thinking about it and I’d come back just for that alone! As for drinks, I had a passionfruit mojito - slightly disappointed as it wasn’t minty or limey to me at all and was really just like a passionfruit soda. Tasty, nonetheless! I’d like to try their beet cocktail next time.
Best restaurant/ bar we went to in Banff. The cocktails were both interesting and delicious. The menu has a great variety of Asian fusion inspired small plates great for sharing and the decor is colorful and definitely a cool vibe. The space is small and busy but we never felt rushed or cramped. I would happily eat there regularly if I lived there!
Several options with special fusion of different style foods. We found the Taiwan food “Gua Bao”. The Ramen is very good, too.
Everything was very good. Great customer service. The food was also great. Had a nice time there. I definitely recommend this place. It’s a small and busy place but still pretty good.
Small, crowded and very popular. The service was excellent. We ordered six dishes, to share. The tuna on salad was amazing.
Our group loved it! I personally got the katsu curry and it was delicious! Great staff as well. It is a smaller, cozy restaurant. Highly recommend!
Excellent from beginning to end. I tried the special, which was a curry with mussels, and every single taste was perfection. Perfectly cooked seafood, deliciously seasoned spicy curry....even the bread was light and delicious. And the cocktails! A delicious, serviceable monitor twist, and a real showstopper, the Birds of Paradise- absolutely divine. Top it off with fast, efficient, friendly service, and it makes for one of the BEST dining experiences Ive had in awhile! Thank you to the whole team who was working tonight-you were stellar. (Go early in the evening, because it fills up quick!)
Nice cosy place. Food is very flavorful and well presented. I have had most of the small plates and they are excellent for sharing. The curry ramen was full of flavor and had a hint of heat. The "UnBeetable" cocktail was excellent. The server was polite and answered any questions we had in regards to the dishes. Will be back again
The pulled duck was a bit too dry.The nannwich (beefwas good hair a bit too salty.I like the takoyakis very crispy.
Super cool vibe. This small yet mighty place is great for intimate experiences and I guarantee you won’t leave without making a new friend or two. The highlight of this place by far is the drinks, they are sophisticated and a fair price. The food was good but a bit over priced, yet still tasty. Our bartender Reese was friendly and courteous. Highly recommend this place but be ready to spend money.
Cant say enough good things about Block. Amazing food and service. Pictured is the curry ramen, which was their Soup of the Whim for that day. Unexpected food fusions. Bao buns were excellent. The drinks are pricy IMO but worth every penny.
Small restaurant/bar with interesting menu (asian fusion). They have a chalkboard menu and a regular menu. We chose few items on both of them: bbq pork bun, karaage chicken (not picturedand prawns in green curry. The bun was flavourful but rather small and lacked meat. Karaage chicken was good. Green curry was overly salty, which totally ruined the plate (also, I did not get why they would add a side of kimchi to it (green curry being thai and kimchi being korean)? But their kimchi was fairly good and I ate it with the chicken instead. We tried their ginger/lavender cocktail, which tasted mostly lime with a ginger aftertaste.I found the whole thing rather expensive for the value, I was expecting more considering the good reviews.
Very small place but we went early before the crowds. The cocktails were excellent and the service was friendly and prompt. We werent very hungry so we just had the lettuce wraps but the quality, portion and flavor was really great. I didnt expect to be impressed by such a simple dish.
Thank you so much for hosting 16 of us, we all had a great time, and the drinks were phenomenon!!We planned our wedding lunch celebration at Block, everyone loved the food and all the cocktails! With the ongoing pandemic, Stephane, the owner, was so easy to communicate with and made the planning extremely easy for us. They also supplied to-go lunch boxes for our remote wedding the next day; they were a hit!Block will forever be in our memory, thanks again to all the staffs who made it wonderful.
A hidden gem in Banff. Small little restaurant bar down one of the side streets. Great cocktails and delicious food to go with it. Here 5 days and the best spot we ate at. HIGHLY recommend
Great experience trying different types of food! We got their pork katsu bowl and chicken sandwich which were both great! We order their chicken skewers as well, however, it was the same kind of chicken in the sandwich. Our favourite was the passionfruit mojito! The best mojita we have ever tried!
I try to come here every time I stop in Banff. The cheese platter is a must and the service is great. The wait times can end up exceeding an hour so get there early if you’d like a seat. We got a call once to come in however our table was not ready when we arrived. The server had given us a drink on the house and we appreciated their customer service! Walked by recently and noticed they had opened up some patio seating so glad to see them expanding for more customers.
The food here was overall alright and in my opinion almost everything we ordered could have been better. We had the Kimchi soup, toyko fries, beef tartare roll and tuna tataki. The last two pictured. The Kimchi soup is definitely fusion and not traditional. It seemed to be tomato based and not anchouvy based like traditional Korean stews. I guess that is what is expected from a fusion place but I just felt that every mouthful was lacking the flavour that comes from what I would get at a Korean restaurant. The toyko fries were the best thing we ordered. Cant go wrong with fries, kewpie mayo, seaweed and bonito flakes. The beef tartare roll is interesting. Not sure if it works though. There is no flavour outside of the sauce which is I found was over abundant. Also the beef doesnt wrap well and everything just falls apart. The tuna tataki was just okay. I found that it had too much sesame seeds which was overpowering and for most bites that was all I was tasting.
Small, hip eatery in the heart of Banff - great cocktails (!and their share plates are great as well. Actually really liked the sauces that came with the pan-flashed spicy prawns and duck spring rolls. And their daily special was mussels which was also great. Highly recommend!
The food was hit and miss. I thought the cold ramen salad was really good but then I remembered I was starving so maybe thats why it was so good. The Tokyo fries were my favourite, but its a typical dish you can get at many places. I didnt like the mushroom risotto because the texture was weird and it was too salty. Everything else was good, but not amazingly good, but not bad.Our server was amazing tho; she was so friendly, happy, and polite
Our second time at Block and we are still amazed. The service is lovely and so accommodating! The atmosphere is fun and of course, THE FOOD is fantastic. Asian fusion that can not be beat. The cocktail list including ingredients local to the area. All in all a five star experience. No reservations so walk in and hope they have a spot for you. You won’t be disappointed.
Bit pricey but super tasty. Friendly service, although a bit slow. The tuna tataki and duck ssam were definitely the two standouts for us. Passionfruit mojito was great as well as the creme brulee for dessert.
Loved this place! What a gem in Banff. Had delicious karaage chicken, garlic shrimp, salad and duck spring rolls (the only thing I didn’t really like - cut bizarrely and not the spinach was a bit weird). Watermelon drink and passion fruit mojito were delicious.
Very delicious food. Katsu chicken bowl was probably the best. Zen salad was delicious but not filling. Chao Shui Bao was good but a little salty. Ahi tuna poke bowl was great. Bison burger was good, with an Asian twist.Service was very good considering they had 2 front of house staff serving the entire joint. They had many delicious cocktails offered and were btw $10-17/glass.
Block is a fantastic restaurant with a plethora of Asian fusion dishes to try out. The prices are great and the staff are super friendly. I ordered takeout and I was blown away with how speedy the service was and how delicious the food was. I tried Takoyaki (something I have been wanting to try for yearsand it was better than I could have hoped for. The duck lettuce wraps were also delicious and the in house made kimchi was unreal. When I am back in Banff I was definitely be returning and hopefully eating on their patio someday.
We havent had food and service this well delivered in a long time. The cocktails were well thought through, the fusion inspired appetizers brought flavors together in a way that just made sense. Im glad the prawn curry came with an extra kick of spice to help us bear through the crisp spring weather, late night in Banff. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly and that only added to the experience. The real winner of the night, though, was that house made Kim Chi, a really refreshing burst of pickled flavours. Bottle it up!
This restaurant is amazing! The food here never seems to fail us every time we come into town, there is so much flavour to every dish. The cocktails are also delicious and they are also very pretty looking. We highly recommend coming to this restaurant if youre ever in Banff!
