Comfy, cozy basement tavern for Asian Fusion shared plates & drinks plus happy hours.
Cocktails were tasty. Food was mediocre. I recommend the wings and tempura sweet potato.
This boutique hotel is so very charming, I booked two nights in the Bon Viveur room of the Blind Tiger over our wedding weekend. The first night I stayed with my MOH before the big day the next day we had enough room for 1 hairdresser, 2 makeup artists, and 11 women to get pampered/ready for the big day. That evening the Blind Tiger flipped the room and tidied everything up for me and my new HUSBAND to return to after or wedding reception. The list of descriptive words I have for this place is so long, but here are some of my tops. Romantic, quaint, cozy, stylish, clean, exceptional. We cannot wait to come back!
The pork belly baos were pretty good. Were they the best Ive ever had? No. But were they really good? Yes. Fulfilled my bao craving. The pork belly musubi was eh ok. I should have gone with spam, the pork belly wasnt enough flavor. The Flor del desierto drink was very sweet, floral and yummy.Extra points for the staff. They were nice and chill. The space had a nice vibe too. Came here alone after a work conference. Felt creepy going down the stairs but the space itself was cool. Went on a Sunday night, I was one of maybe 5 people in the space. I liked how chill it was. Wish I knew about this place last night when my group of colleagues were looking for a cool place for drinks.
Its a vibe been twice and i love it. Ive met some of the most genuine and amazing people in these interactions. Had some bomb drinks, unique and delicious food.
Everything we ordered was cold and tasted off. The crab croquettes were so bad. The Hawaiian beef was mushy. The fried rice had a long hair.
Amazing drinks and atmosphere. A little pricey but worth it.
Great service, ambiance, and drinks! Kentucky Georgia Border cocktail was my favorite followed by Banana Club. Also love that they have parking
The is a full bar and quick bar food restuarant that is hidden in Koreantown of Oakland as it is underground which is bout two flights of stairs. No worries as this place welcome all as the is a elevator to get to the place. The vibe really chill and music is set from a playlist. However, a live dj or band can play live in the place. There is plenty of space have many tables and seating. Set like a indoor picnic with a private like seating area to get a bit more intimacy and quietness. There are two big screens and a tv. Movies and music videos are played for enjoyment. Drinks are proper and food looks amazing. Water is provided in a self serve way. Many of the decoration design is really attractive as you will see from other post. The visitors range from young drinking age to middle age around 50s. This is from a visit during a visit in July 2022 late night after 9:30pm hours and stay till closing hours. Post tough COVID times and economy changes.
Really chill place. I enjoyed it. Not too loud with music.
Food was not good over priced bad to return 3 things for not being cooked all the way or not tasting good at all
Lots of tables inside and outside. My coworkers and I got dinner here, and the service and food was amazing. Spicy fried chicken sandwich had a little bit of heat initially, but then I got used to it, and it was fine.
I love this place , and it’s used to be so much fun . We did came here for early happy hour so it was empty but did got filled up fast. The staff is really nice , love the interior design and chill vibes . There is k- fries chicken which is descent. They changed things around . To order the food you have to go up in the restaurant part of the kbbq . And you can eat as take out .. which kinda sucks but still pretty cool place .
The bar is really cute, fun decorations. Nice bartenders. Never had Korean bbq before so that was an experience. Not a lot of veggie options. That was a bummer. Its sooo smokey, not sure I could handle it again. Took several reminders to get all of the things we ordered. Staff was friendly.
I had a really good time with a group of friends that hadnt gotten together in sometime. It was easy to get into the building, (no masks required at the time of this writingand the ID/Proof of Vaccination process was very quick. The menu and ordering process was smooth and straightforward, done directly from a QR code. Service was prompt, even brought a round of water out when asked. There is a self serve station for water that I missed at first! The food was good. I enjoyed being able to see and directly order different sauces on the side for the apps/pizza/etc. Would recommend checking out if you havent been. The highlight was actually the ease of parking once we found the entrance along with the overall environment provided.
Very slow but attentive service. Good drinks. My chicken sandwich was well seasoned but very overcooked and greasy. I left with an upset stomach.
Different eating experience...you cook your own....in a good way though!!
Honestly so disappointed to see how this restaurants quality has gone so down hill. I had a terrible time to the point I didnt really eat anything we ordered. My chicken was burnt with black pieces on it and it still tasted unseasoned. My curry fries that I used to get all the time was basically soup with fries in it also 0 flavor. On top of all that every plate that was served was so messy, the one dish that still resembled the flavors of old blind tiger (pork bunswas still very messy. My partner at I paid about 80-90$ we werent happy. If it wasnt for the one server that took one plate off our bill and gave us a free dessert we probably would have asked for a full refund. Unfortunately the food went to waste. We tried to doctor is at home but that food was already too far gone couldnt bring it back.
With the current times, they have set up booths and tables outside where you can enjoy both Blind Tiger and Gogi Time outside, which was rather cozy and without the meat smell on your clothes. We had all Blind Tiger items - teriyaki chicken wings (good), pork belly bao (alright), ribs (needs a little work on the meat - not as tender "falling off the bones" status), fried brussel sprouts (mehand drinks (all very delish)! We may be back to try the other goodies
The resturant and bar are seperate, both are great. The resturant was laid back and had many delicious food options. Servers were quick and polite. The bar was downstairs and had a very cool, artsy atmosphere. There was a variety of unqiue cocktails and the bartender was kind and quick.Overall I would recommend both spots.
Food was great, but bar service was not. I’m unsure if management thinks one bartender is adequate staffing for a full restaurant but it’s hardly fair to either party. Our food was ready before we could even order drinks, so it got cold before we could make it to the table. I liked the place and the atmosphere, but I’m reluctant to go back.
A nice hidden bar with a fun atmosphere and good drinks. Also, the Korean fried chcken is so good! The wait for food can get very long (especially on First Fridays), so order early!
Incredible environment. Since the pandemic, they have incorporated outdoor seating making it easy for folks to connect without too much fear of contracting the virus. The food was incredible! Something for everyone. The bibimbop was delicious (especially the multigrain rice and spicy pork). So were the appetizers and drinks. 5 star experience!
The wait was ridiculous, but what really made me sad was the food. There seemed to be no spices?? From what I know of Korean food, there is flavor galore, but the food we had here was lackluster. The only really good thing we had were the fries.Dont really recommend for the price and quality.
Whilst the Blind Tiger underground bar is decent, the whole complex, particularly the KBBQ restaurant on the ground level leaves an overall bad taste in the mouth of this reviewer. Poor design and acoustics, snobby waitstaff and food that tastes like it mostly came from a can. Good portions and a varied menu save it from the dreaded one star. Hopefully with some re-thinking of the suppliers and overall approach this place can reach its tremendous potential. I mean, there are entire rooms here just sitting vacant. Think what you could do with all that space. But until you actually do something cool with it, I wont be back. Two stars.
The Drinks, the food, the outdoor dinning atmosphere was on point. Went on a Friday night, long wait but worth it. My husband and I enjoyed our date night.I would definitely recommend.
Great korean food served in large sized portions in an awesome setting. Well done, Blind Tiger. The only reason I gave four stars was the server made a few errors, but the food made up for it. Big time.
Started out great, nice affordable + happy hour, etc. This was a go-to for a while. But then (naturally?started raising prices and culling the happy hour menu and eventually became "not worth it" for us, esp. when there are plenty of other options immediately nearby.
Simple food with an added twist to the flavor. Only complaint is the dishes are a bit overpriced.
Great spot for dates! Its Asian tapas so its Great for sharing and they also have a good drinks selection. The only downside is that it does cost a lot of youre trying to eat anything more than 2 plates, the costs add up very fast.
The food was really good. However, parts of our order did not arrive even after several mentions to the waiter. In the end, we were comped parts of the meal, which was some good remediation, but the kitchen was behind and orders got missed. To be fair, it was quite busy, but they need to handle it better. The atmosphere is nice, and Ive been there on other days and it was not this bad, but this really took a bite out of the evening.
Funky, weird, cool. In a basement filled with picnic tables, lanterns, a big projector screen (The Goonies was playing during our company party there), and a greenhouse made of 2x4s. Food was interesting and tasty, my faves were the poke and the curry fries. Service was a little wonky, room was a little cold, and some of the dishes werent balanced. Good for a low stakes happy hour!
We had a huge rowdy group and they did great accommodating us quickly. We shared a lot of small plates which turned out kind of tricky, but we got to try over half the one-of-a-kind menu. Great atmosphere that caters to a hip crowd.
Really Really cool atmosphere. not at all what i expected from the outside and totally worth the trip. it is a bit more on the pricey side but i honestly was not disappointed by the quality of service nor food. If only it was more cost efficient then i’d go every other weekend. can you guys start doing a happy hour?? keep up the great work and I love Love love the different seating options and super hip crowd.
The food was pretty good. Slightly on the pricey side but worth it. We shared the burger, fries, chicken heart skewers, and poke. The poke had too much soy sauce. the rest was cooked well and tasted flavorful.
Nice space, roomier than I was expecting. My friends and I had a great time (table of 14). Interior has cool murals and beautiful paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The brussel sprouts and curry fries were delicious, drink selection was also decent. Note that its below ground level - so cell phone reception was terrible for me, but I used the guest wifi when I needed it and had no other issues.
Ive never had a bad dish here! The drinks are fun and the staff is awesome! Its generally loud and perfect for a party 🤩
Dinner menu prices are as they should be. Service may get slow if there’s a group reservation or it gets busy. Ambiance is really nice.
Went here last night, I can’t think of one thing great about this place:-It was so noisy that we couldn’t hear each other talk.-The food was way over salted and/or oiled. Leading now to indigestion at 2AM. Update:vomiting oily Brussels sprouts at 3AM. How nice.-The cocktails were done poorly, with little flavor or palate balance.-Service was really bad, wait staff were stressed and it showed.-The experience and quality didn’t justify the prices.-It’s wholly underground, which would be a death trap in an earthquake.Net-net, I would never go back.
Good food. We had the pork belly baos, massaman beef curry and chicken hearts. It all tasted great. Service was really good and waiters are friendly. The place also doubles as a sports bar so thy will have the game on. The decor is very interesting!
The chicken and waffles was something that would satisfy the cravings of any wild beast. The darkly chic ambience was the perfect setting for a Golden State, Game 6 comeback win. Excellent.
Very friendly staff. Great selection of drinks. Food seemed expensive so we didnt try any.
Loud and expensive. I was not too impressed by this trendy place. It was extremely loud and I could barely hear my friend next to me. We ordered a bunch of tapas as our meal. They strictly adhere to the Asian Fusion style with their food. Some was tasty, some was just weird. My favorite was the lamb potstickers. I will not be going back.
Loud!Great fun thoughtful food.Lively environment.Friendly people.Boring drinks.<<Wow! This spot is hot!Brussel sprouts were great!Burger was excellent!!!!Massaman fries were loved by her.We will be back. Sit in the little house. Its a tad bit quieter.$68 for two.
This might be my new favorite bar. I spend all of my nights out in uptown and can say that the Blind Tiger is top of the charts for food, beer and cocktail selection. It also has; believe it or not, kind and attentive service. The hot ginger lemon burbon cocktail is very good and works perfectly in this location since it can be a bit drafty when not filled to capacity.Highly recommend. Will be heading back there this week for sure.
A for ambience and hospitality, C- for food. Which is nice for groups, but your appetite will better served by the many great Korean spots in the neighborhood.
Cozy basement bar with decent Asian fusion tapas and creative cocktails. I was surprised that it was in the basement at first. But I really liked the ambience, dimly lit, bench seating, TV/projectors playing, nice Japanese lantern hanging from the ceiling. The food here is pretty good for a bar. I recommend the Manssaman curry fries, oysters, and roasted meatballs with pineapple sauce. We also tried sending desserts, tres leches panna cotta and warm rice pudding, both were nothing special. We got a burnt rice pudding but the waiter was nice enough to take that off the bill.Tips:1Come here for the oyster happy hour (5-7PM every day), so worth it!2Early bird happy hour 5-7PM Sunday through Thursday only
Blind Tiger is overshadowed by Gogi time next door (AYCE K-BBQbut definitely should not be. First time I went here was for cocktails while waiting for my table at Gogi time. I enjoyed my drink enough to warrant a trip back and check them out for food as well. You go down this staircase into the basement and it opens up into a bar and seating area. The drink specials they have are tasty and the food is great. We went for happy hour and went to town on $1 oysters. The featured oyster changes so check with you waitress to see whats fresh. I highly recommend trying Blind Tiger. Great spot to hang with friends, grab a drink or have a date night!
I was disappointed by Blind Tiger. The interior is pretty hip and walking downstairs get you excited about a great meal to come, but I found the food to be boring and the service lacking. Everything on the menu sounds great but the execution left a lot to be desired. The one exception was the longbeans - these were hot, hot, hot!
This place is awesome. Super unique. Great cocktails, beer, and the food is amazing. This is my new favorite spot.
The oysters are surprisingly good here. I like the menu and the theme of the restaurant. However the kitchen seemed to struggle with serving large parties. I was here with a birthday group of 10 people and the seating was accommodating but the service was not. The staff did not really have a grasp of our order. At the conclusion of our time there a few items had yet to reach the table over confusion about what was brought and what was ordered. The delayed items were removed from the bill but the staff can do a much better job keeping up with the orders.
