Blackstrap Provincial Park - State park in Meadow Lake, Canada
The camp sites were mainly empty as it was the last weekend of the season, but I thought it was a nice place with good sized lots which were spread out.
Nice camp sites, some close to the water. Well groomed beach
Good place, 20-25 minutes drive from saskatoon. During weekend, Good number of visitors for boating or fishing. Need to go early if want to book the Good spot for fishing. Avoid rainy weather as no shed available.
Amazing place for a day visit, trails to hike and bike on. Large beach area with plenty of sun and shade. Concession is available but the hours are limited so dont rely on it. Camping has its ups and downs, overall decent camp sites with most having electric hook ups. Flush toilets throughout the park but limited shower facilities (definite need of an upgrade).
Great place for camping and nice view, typical of the Prairie: a beauty without end. With the beach nearby, a playground for the kids to play and meet Summer friends, and the restrooms (as clean as it can get, btwwe enjoyed our stay and wish we had a boat to discover this long stretch of water.
The park is very well kept and beautiful fantastic signage and amazing sites. Unfortunately a lot of other park goers dont have common sense while camping.. neighbours set their hammock in our site and have 4 adults walk through our site (between the camper and fire pit and between member of my familyand 1 neighbouring child. Please be considerate to other campers
25-30 minutes drive to south of Saskatoon. Nice and clean, Well kept washrooms and benches with some friends and family made my summer remarkable.Home to one of the rarest geographical formations in Canada, the Blackstrap Provincial Park takes its name after the manmade mountain that rises 45 metres above the surrounding prairies. This park is the perfect place to enjoy a wide range of summer activities including swimming, camping and fishing. With a boat launch located on the east side of the lake, Blackstraps lake is ideal for water activities such as water-skiing, canoeing and windsurfing. A main beach with inviting sand and ample grass areas makes a perfect place for games and sun tanning. For that perfect getaway with minimal effort and preparation, two Camp-Easy yurts are available for booking.Park entry fee daily $10, weekly $40 and yearly $75.
Wonderful camp grounds, perfect water for kayaking. Nice sitting grounds at the main beach. Definitely going back.
Absolutely beautiful. Amazingly taken care of. Admission office had a extremely helpful and pleasant young man who helped us to get to our neices wedding at a absolutely beautiful stand area.
It is a beautiful lake just about 32 km from Saskatoon. The beach area of Lakeside has many trees, picnic areas, also floating water park for those who like to jump. There is spacious washroom and toilet. Also bbq area. It has cafe and restaurant.
We have had our annual camping family tradition here for many, many years!
Blackstrap is a beautiful park to go spend the day at. They have a bouncy area you can play on but I believe it cost money to use it. They have peddle boats you can rent as well. It’s just all and all a fun beautiful place to spend the day with the family
Stayed in the tent area . The portable toilets were disgusting, probably not the parks fault but honestly.Park is pretty spot on the edge of a lake that seems to appear from nowhere. Actual shower and washroom facilities were spotless and well stocked.
Im giving it 2 stars for the amount of seaweed. If they took care of the beach area better it would be awesome. I love the bounce island obstacle course so much fun.
To have a great time just bring your coal and meat, and most importantly friends to enjoy the afternoon with
Waterpark was incredible, I want to stress the need to get the all day pass! 1 hour is just not enough especially if its busy. Stretch before if youre an adult or youll be extra sore. Our ages range from 22 to 34 and all had a blast. This park/water park is a must for anyone traveling near by! Fire wood and showers are included!
Camping sites are very private and woods are ready for grilling or making camp fire. Not to mention it’s only 40 minutes drive from Saskatoon city proper.
We always enjoy it here. Close from the city(30 min or so), and some amenities such as water park, Cafe and a little bar. Its got decent trails too.
Great for a camping site were you could fish as well, They have several picnic ground. This place is perfect if you want to go for a group camping, bonding with friends and family.
Camped at Hazelnut 117. Quite a sloped site and very difficult to get the camper level. Mostly Tenters on this loop. 6 km to the next loop of campers with a beach and playground inbetween. Beware of ticks, but they werent too bad.Still resent reserving the site and then having to pay an extra $10 at the gate for a day pass to access it!!!!
Beautiful place, great to spend the day with the family for a picnic/BBQ and a day at the beach. There are very clean and well maintained indoor washroom and shower facilities available. Great spot for camping if you dont want to drive too far. Fishing was not to good as there is too much shrubbery causing the lines to get constantly tangled. Fishing areas could use some improvement. Otherwise a beautiful place to get away from the city buzz.
The park isnt open yet, drove threw though and very impressed with the area. Plan on spending time there the summer.
Exquisite view, more like God has painted by himself. We entered by mistake private property opposite of provincial park, but the view from there is an alluring one. The people are amicable, and we also learned when crossing any vehicle or person, one must have to make a friendly gesture to the other there. Unique thing.
Best place to go to in the summer and fall. Has a a lot of area so people can choose to distance themselves during COVID-19. Has water games and can rent a boat on the site. Parking is available. Entry fees for provincial park pee vehicle is $15. Can also rent a place for camping .
Good place to spend some family time together and good facilities for camping. Mosquito problem
Incredible place , beautiful view , clean and quiet place
Dont get me wrong, its a beautiful area, but the only thing that gross me out is the green water. Its the same story each year. The algaes are abundant and the circulation of many boats get the water to look like a green smoothie. If you dit mind to not go swimming while camping, well, that could be a good place for you
Nice place for day picnic and ride the trails
It is a very nice park. It has a nice beach, the lake is nice to swim, and there are several places to park. I have never had issues to find a spot close to the beach. In the summer, there are stand-up paddle & kayaks to rent. Also, there is a place to buy burgers, hotdogs, pop and beer. I really like this park, its one of my favorites parks in SK.
Everything was well maintained and clean. Beautiful and quiet up on Sunset Ridge Campground. Windy, but then no mosquitoes. Far from the beach and other campgrounds, but very peaceful for that very reason. Not much shrubbery around the actual site, but the sunsets and view of the lake make up for that. I just wish all the sites up there could be full service. Water pressure at site is high, so you may need a water pressure regulator.
This is a great campground. Hiking, biking and water fun. Road is a bit rough getting there, but worth the drive.
A nice picnic area with access to Blackstrap Lake. Particularly great for boating and fishing.
So far so good, Im really only going out there to ride the what they call downhill mountain bike trails. I say that because theres a ton of uphill too. They are great trails, and a great team of guys and gals maintaining them. Please respect the signage when they are doing trail maintenance and other than that have fun and respect the trails! Going to be spending a lot of time out here this summer.
Wow. If this is such a nice place in winters, I am waiting for summers. It offers so much. Trails, Fishing, Ice Fishing, Skiing, Picnic Areas etc.Great place around Saskatoon for 1 day trip with friends and family..
Campground that is close to the city, can handle boats on the lake, and has enough amenities for the family to be comfortable. Sunset ridge campground has a few sites with great views if you can handle the wind. The walking trail and mountain bike paths are definitely the highlight of the park in my view. Beautiful in the fall.
Please DO NOT VISIT if you are sensitive to smell as the water smells of rotting water weed. Its a beautiful spot but has limited otions. Good set up for small and mid sized campaigners, has few boat launchs.
For summer hiking, dont let the ski trail map fool you. Peppered throughout these marked ski trails (the wide trails in the photosare gorgeous, hidden, hilly, mountain bike paths, beautifully marked (and made by?the "Northern Bush Rastas". With no bikes in sight, they make lovely walking trails. Do watch for bikes, and stay away from them if theres an event happening. Also, the parking lot at the trailhead appears rustic, but has lighted bathrooms, flush toilets, soap, water, and paper towels, during my August visit. Dont know if that holds true in winter.
They have some great trails along old ski hills.
~ most definitely recommend this beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors , my kiddos didnt like the water at the time cause it was full of floaty seaweed but other than that it was so much fun!!! ~
Nice large spots well spaced, electrical at most, common water and sewer service, camped here during week and was nice and quiet, no off-road machines allowed in the park. Havent been successful at shore fishing yet. Did get fishing license checked by a conservation officer.
very nice place.... if you like biking there are easy, medium and hard trail
Site 107 is pretty nice, the sites near the lake are shorter and not as cozy. They turned the water off to the park early and without notice, so that was frustrating. Its still a nice place.
A strong nostalgia for skiing as a child on the hill comes sweeping in every time I drive past. Now that the chairlift is gone, those memories will stay just as they are. Have unexpectedly found some terrific mountain biking on site. Would love to see it developed further...seems a waste to not develop something that could be used by both young and old. Lots of excellent terrain and some descent elevation is the foundation for a fun little destination for cyclists.
Nice quite campgrounds. Sunset is the new and better.
It was nice quiet camp site, the bathrooms were a little bit of an issue not well kept and only one toilet for boys and one toilet for the girls. The showers were pretty gross also. Nice beach pretty quiet nice views.
Clean flushable toilets. Free firewood. Nice beach and playground. Grills on firepit. Good walking trails in summer along cross country ski trail. Beautiful view of lake. We stayed at hazelnut campground and it had good privacy. And the water tasted better than at home!
Lake itself is beautiful. Entery point is refreshing. Not many things to do there.
I like that it is close to Saskatoon. The lake is big with two sections with a cute little tunnel to get from one side to the other. Kids love that. We went for the afternoon with the boat an didnt get to try the beach but I found the beaches to be small. They had 2 that I saw when we were in the boat.
Despite no longer having a working ski hill and a pretty rough and narrow grid to take up to the park, Blackstrap is a lovely piece of Saskatchewan landscape. On our last visit during late July, there were hundreds of pelicans on the water. Its great for boating, tubing, fishing, or swimming at the main beach. The park also has plenty of camping and places to walk. Theres a big parking lot for boats and fish cleaning huts. As there is no restaurant, and only occasionally a food truck, its ideal to bring a picnic with you.
Good and bad. It is hard to believe that the second closest provincial park and campground to Saskatoon is almost empty 1 day before the biggest camping weekend of the summer. Maybe it is partially due to the complete absence of stall, no useful signage or any posted maps and directions. We are at Sunset Ridge campground but we sure didnt find it with the help of the only maps available posted on their website or the signs along the park road that never did tell you where this campground is.These sites are pretty wide open with few trees and no privacy but peaceful because hardly anybody is here. Two of the closest water taps are non functionalBathrooms are modern and as clean as people leave themLots of room for parking cars, trucks, boats or whatever at most sites.easy to park trailers because of the lack of trees.
