Blackhawk Museum in San Ramon

The cars are cool, I’ve been here for a few parties. It seems like this is more of a party place to rent out to have cool events. I don’t really know people who just want to go to the museum and look at cars, although the car collections are quite incredible for car enthusiast. But day-to-day I don’t see a lot of people going to this museum at all. It’s usually car shows and they do big events here. But it’s gorgeous inside and the events have been spectacular

Absolutely the best museum I have ever visited. If you can fit it into your schedule it is a must see.Excellent old west collection, so much time and effort put into the information, original pieces, the mural is incredible, loved to see the old guns, American indian items, crazy large scenes with wonderful descriptions.The cars, wow, just wow. The very best condition. Simply immaculately perfect. Some one of a kind examples.The Asian area had a wonderful atmosphere. Lots to see and explore. So many masterpiece carvings all made from one piece.The African exhibit was very well done also.Then the downstairs area with the many animals in natural poses and scenes.I could come time and time again. Mind blowing experience. The very best museum in the world.

It exceeded my expectations in every way. Compelling exhibits impeccably maintained. Sparse crowds. Beautiful building and surrounding shops.

My two favorite type of museums, a natural history museum and cars all in one!!!! Great great collection of both. Never heard of this museum before, just found it by chance while looking up museums in the City. Skip the City traffic and come to beautiful CA rolling hills which is where this hidden gem is located.

Last time I visited in 2012 this was one of the worlds greatest car museums, sadly more than half of the cars have since been sold so its no longer really worth it unless youre trying to impress an 8 year old.

Absolutely amazing! My kid loved it so much. He especially likes the Ancient China exhibit. It is unique and can barely be found anywhere else. The demo of the Forbidden City is so eye catching and impactful. Love there.We spent 3 hours there. I hope we could have more time since there is so much fun to explore.

Better than expected. Went to see the classic cars but that was only one of 5 exhibit halls.

So glad we found this gem deep in the valley. The museum is much larger than I expected. The story of China, the story of American West are quite complete. I am not a fan of cars but still impressed by its car collection. A very unique place to spend three hours of a weekend.

A surprisingly good museum. Especially if you like cars.

Pretty good for the price. A nice variety of exhibits means there is something for everyone. The animal exhibit is a bit overwhelming, its hundreds and hundreds of animals jam packed in there.

I had been to this museum quite a long time ago and really enjoyed it for the awesome collection of cars. We recently took a trip to the museum spiked by an interest of their China exhibit and the Terra Cotta soldiers. When we arrived you could see those gleaming cars as soon as you walked in the door. But when when we were presented with the interior map we realized we were in for a surprise! The car exhibit alone is worth the price of admission but the other exhibits took this museum over the top for us. We had only planned for a couple hours but quickly realized that we should have allowed for more time. We were in awe and can’t wait to go again. If you have never been…go! If you haven’t been in a while…go!

Stumbled onto this place when I was looking for a car museum but its so much bigger than that. They have a nice collection of vintage cars but their other exhibits are better. Theres a whole wing on Chinese history and another on African tribal life. A giant exhibit on the wild west and its impact on Native Americans. I live in NYC and go to the American Museum of Natural History and can confidently say the Blackhawks Wild West exhibit is better than what AMNH has.

The Blackhawk Museum (founded 1988consists of five distinct galleries in one facility located in Danville, California. It is best known for its significant collection of classic, rare, and unique automobiles. In addition to its gallery Classic Car Collection, the museum has four other galleries: The Spirit of the Old West, Art of Africa, Into China, and World of Nature.

Nice place for weekend, the China Pavilion is my favorite.

Great museum here in the Bay Area that offers education for all types. Cars, nature, or Asian/African cultural history, this place has it all!

So much fun. We brought our 8 month old who had a great time looking at all the exhibits. Adults enjoyed it as well there is such a good variety of things to see that it would be hard not to enjoy yourself!

The museum was amazing. I went in just expecting a few cars and maybe a few other things, but this museum just kept on going lots of cool stuff to see!

Came back to see the museum after 20 years and amazed with all of the new additions, collections of Behring and the museum. It truly is a gem for Contra Costa and the Bay Area. Museum started as an auto museum, which is still there with amazing vehicles on display. Now has Wild West, Art of Africa, Art of China, and a Natural World sections. They are a member of the North American Reciprocal Museum system.

If you want a wonderful family day visiting a place that makes you extrapolate to another era and enjoy an exceptional view, you must visit this magical museum

Very elegant picture and exhibitation in the "into China", "the world of nature" and the "Spirit of the old west world". You cannot tell those arts are real or fake. The museum is not crowded at weekend. It is a great place for older people and young kids to learn the history and culture from the other side of the world. Thanks to the creator of the museum.

Wonderful place! The vintage cars are a treat to watch! Kids will enjoy the animal world too. You will enjoy more if you are history buff, especially in the Wild West section where they detail American history.Tickets are also nominally priced. Adults pay $15 and kids go free! All in all, a nice place to spend time on a weekend with family!

This museum has one of the best animal exhibits I have seen. The way they were placed and with appropriate sounds is just amazing. Whoever has designed this exhibit deserves an ovation.

Stumbled on this gem today, and it just happened to be the best museum in my 49 years of life. The diversity of themes in this museum was incredible, but what is more is the impressive pieces that will knock your socks off. The cost is between $10-$15 depending on age or discount, but worth EVERY penny. Check out all these pictures, but go for so much more!!

Seems to be even larger inside than it appears from the outside. An amazing collection of rare and special cars, and an eclectic mix of other displays. Chinese art, artefacts from the American West and exotic animal taxidermy were on view.

The Blackhawk Museum has definitely expanded over the years and the focus has shifted from just being a car museum to also being a “history” museum. The exhibits of the expansion west in the United States are great and the diorama’s are huge and incredibly detailed with some fun Easter eggs hidden in them.Unfortunately the car exhibit has shrunk to make room for these other exhibits which is why I can’t give it five stars. Additionally, the lighting in the museum make it practically impossible to get a good picture of any of the cars as all you get are reflections of the lights, ceilings, surroundings, etc..

An automobile collection with cars from different eras, an "anthropology" area with pieces of Chinese and African arts, and a "natural world" area with reproductions of habitats around the world.You should reserve anything from 1 hour (if you just glance by visually appealing stuffto 5 hours (if you actually read everythingto visit this museum.

Visited 2 major displays, Africa and the new "Into China". Very impressive collectionSome items are replicas but nevertheless, well done. The timelines and charts, well layed out without having overwhelming information. Very nicely organized and well spaced. Weve seen the car displays over the years but they are rotated and changed out. Stunning and beautiful. General entry fee is $15, Seniors and Students $10. One fee to view entire museum. Plan on at least 2 hours to see all of it with appreciation.

This is an amazing museum! The vehicles here are all unique in one way or another. The Africa exhibit has the most snagging carvings I had ever seen until I got to the China exhibit. Well worth the Mooney and time.

Kenneth Berhing, the developer of Blackhawk and San Ramons Canyon Lakes Development and one time owner of the Seattle Seahawks, was also a world class collector of classic and antique autos and motorcycles and the founder of the Blackhawk Museum that displays these prized vehicles. He then collected a lot more stuff from around the world.There is an African Art exhibit called Art of Africa. A Spirit of the Old West that is on the top floor, which includes a California section. And now an extensive Chinese Art and Culture exhibit called "Intro China."The Chinese Art is not necessarily "antique" or old, but lots of reproductions. There is the massive model of The Forbidden City and Terracotta Warrior section.A "con" is all the Chinese Art descriptions and wall descriptions are in English Only. It should also be written in Chinese.You can rent out this place for private events. You can have your party on the first floor in the massive room that beautifully displays the global collection of classic autos and motorcycles from around the world.The front entrance has a ramp to the side of the building so that people using wheelchairs or pushing strollers can easily enter.Blackhawk Museum is located at the far back within Blackhawk Plaza. Parking is free in the Blackhawk Plaza parking lot.Museum does have individual and family annual memberships for sale.

Fantastic car display, highlights being Elenour from Gone in 60 Seconds (#3/11), steam-powered vehicles, 1920s Rolls Royce, and many many more gems. The cars were immaculately kept, and the museum was very clean. The Into China Exhibit was well-worth a look, intricately astounding displays of art, structure, and history. Also showing at the museum is the Wild Wild West Exhibit (fun), and a natural wonders exhibit is currently under construction. Well worth the visit, especially if you are already at Blackhawk. Admission is not cheap though ($15 per adult), but ticket allows you to go in and out throughout the day as you please.

My wife and went to the grand opening of the new exhibit, Into China. It was wonderful, so many interesting things to see. The model of the Forbidden City was amazing. We also really enjoyed the rest of the museum. If you are a car enthusiast, you definitely will want to see the car exhibit. The Spirit of the Old West was also very informative. The museum building is very clean and modern. We really enjoyed our visit

The Blackhawk exposition is well worth the visit. It’s like 5 museums in one. I went just to see the cars, and was pleasantly surprised with the additional African art, Cowboy film and TV, and the Old West exhibits filled with hundreds of authentic artifacts from both the American Indian and cowboy & US Calvary.

Very interesting museum with lots of assortments of both cars, and western Native American and settler/cowboy items and paraphenillia. There are cars from all the decades from the 1880 Benz working prototype of the first car to a Lamborgini Centenerion.

Excellent small museum. Fantastic car display, with several one of a kind. Really enjoyed the art of Africa. The Western Museum was more extensive then I expected.

Beautiful museum. In my opinion, the car collection is one of the best I have seen, and they are so beautifully maintained. The western history museum on the 2nd floor is very interesting and informative. Best feature of the museum is the exhibit on the 2nd floor that depicts the story of the American civilization from 1600 - 1872. That exhibit is a must see and read.

A fun place to go when having time to explore! We liked the diversity of cars, Indian Art, Cowboy memories, history and a huge array of animals well displayed. The staff were helpful. It was a little hard to find and signage would have helped!

I love this museum because its a blend of gorgeous classic autos and some historical gems. I wish theyd kept the Chinese exhibit and would like to see some other historical items , maybe a bigger African exhibit, but its not far from home and a reasonable price . I also like that its in a shopping center so parking is free.

Exceptional auto and Native American / old West displays, of a quality you might see in a much larger city (and it would still be impressive). Small but interesting African art section... Very much looking forward to seeing the China exhibit come to life as the few pieces are amazing.

A small but eclectic collection of U. S. and foreign cars, all beautifully restored and displayed. Not necessarily worth a day trip to get there, but definitely worth it if you’re in the area. Gear heads and any lover of industrial design as an art form will appreciate it.

Went here for a Christmas party recently and it was great. Been here to this museum half a dozen times and I really like seeing the one off coachmakers work on some of these cars. True works of art.Some of the other exhibits were also the wild west exhibit is cool with some of the period clothing and guns. The diorama while impressive is corny with the addition of dinosaurs and star war characters.All in all a great place to look at some beautiful cars.

Its ok. Not as good as used to be - they removed the car store on the first floor, where they used to sell the nicest car replicas. Instead they replaced it with some African art exhibit - with masks and animals. Nice, but I miss the store! Also, added some Chinese bells collection.
