Black Sheep Coffee - Coffee shop in Shenandoah, United States
Thank You! This is the closest I’ve come to experiencing a true cappuccino since I was in Rome three years ago. You brew this drink as it is intended, like they do where it was invented. Thank You, the search is over!
Great coffee and atmosphere. Eclectic menu and multiple seating options for those who want to curl over a book, have a conversation, or simply get some work done. We will come back over and over again.
Went there for the first time with some of the best coffee I ever had customer service was very friendly nice atmosphere would highly recommend this place to anybody will definitely go back again.
A very nice coffee shop in downtown Harrisonburg. Its sorta hidden along West Bruce Street and Main Street in Agora shops. Great Atmosphere and the coffee is made fresh for you while you wait. I ordered a Chai Latte, it was way better than Starbucks Chai Latte. Really friendly service as well. They have food but I havent tried it yet, looks really good though
Cozy work space with good coffee/food. The private working nook options are awesome.
Good strong coffee. Outstanding crust on the quiche
Always love meeting my friends for coffee here!
Good pourover coffee. They have a good selection of beans; I had Ethiopian. Caught up with a friend here; good atmosphere.
The vibes in this coffee shop will make you want to spend more time in a coffee shop. The baristas were incredibly friendly and helpful. The coffee was excellent, they have bags of fresh beans from all over.... if you want a particular region I almost guarantee they have something for you. Also they stock items for home brewing coffee such as pour over set ups, electric kettles and hard to find chemex filters!!!!They sell bags of whole bean and ground coffee, as well as an assortment of made daily pastry and sandwich items.
Bacon did not look cooked on breakfast sandwiches, so I did not eat them. I ordered cinnamon roll online, they did not have any when I picked up my order. I was not offered a refund for the item. I was given a muffin instead. I would have preferred a refund. People are nice, but I won’t be coming back.
Always a great experience here great coffee and wonderful breakfast sandwiches and baked goods
Super cute place to sit and enjoy coffee or a quick bite.
Ordered a man ice mocha and BEC on their homemade biscuit (the baked goods are all hand madewe’re amazing. Easily one of my favorite coffee shops.
Coffee was fresh tasting and atmosphere was pleasant. Looking forward to coming again.
I have come here a few times and usually the coffee and breakfast sandwiches are great.. not this time. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a biscuit and was told after it came out that they were out of biscuits, so it came on a croissant instead. Totally fine, I can understand miscommunication with the kitchen. I took the sandwich to go, and later opened it to find 3 tiny squares of egg and a piece of bacon on a burnt croissant. Only reason this isn’t a 1 star review is because the few times i’ve been here previously, the food/coffee was fantastic. Off day I guess.
When I went to JMU years ago black sheep was just coming up to rival Greenberrys. Now that Ive come back as an alumnae Im happy to say theyve got a great space with ample space to study, cubbies for “solitude”, and outdoor seating if thats more your speed. Theyve got pastries as well as a small breakfast/lunch menu, and alcohol for later in the day if thats what youre craving. Perfect for a quick bite, though parking was very small and youve got to be crafty to find a place. Definitely more of somewhere you walk to.
Very cute shop. Our barista was friendly and helpful. They have lots of flavors to add to your drink. I had the maple spice and it was delicious.
My husband and I were staying in Harrisonburg for a wedding and decided to swing by Black Sheep on our way home. We’re both coffee aficionados and love to stop in local coffee shops whenever we’re out of town. The coffee shop was busy, which is always a good sign, and also had an awesome vibe! Cool decor, good places to sit, a good variety of drink options. Despite being in a morning rush, the baristas were friendly and moving quickly to keep up with orders. I’d love to give 5 stars based on all this, and I was hopeful when our mochas came out looking super tasty and beautiful on top, but the coffee was super weak unfortunately. It had the chocolate flavor you expect with a mocha, but the coffee flavor was barely there, and it wasn’t super hot either. It was also a little on the pricey side. So I’d give it two stars based solely on the coffee—but cute place!
Very disappointed-I came in this establishment with the hopes of purchasing a black sheep for my farm, only to find that this place does not sell sheep. Instead of the livestock I expected, I found myself with a vanilla latte made by hipsters with beanies. 10/10 will come again, but still mad about the confusion this places name gives it.
Great local coffee shop! My son enjoyed the arcade machine while I enjoyed a dirty chai! Im definitely recommending if passing through!
Wasted an entire hour at this coffee shop- they have the worst system for orders. They need to fire the tall girl with curly hair/ she worked the register- got my order wrong until i pointed it out- told her THREE times that i don’t want bacon, ok she fixed it- 45 minutes later, what do I receive..a bacon cheddar biscuit. I had to ask for a refund for half my order bc they never made my panini either (waited 50 minutes until i asked for a refund), and when i received my biscuits- found out that it had BACON- I didn’t want to waste another hour for a refund. I had to leave, it was so incredibly frustrating. The only person working there was a young barista with dark hair. I mean seriously- how did i wait 50 minutes for an order and walk away with a cold latte? This was so frustrating, i left the biscuits and croissant at the counter, never received my refund bc the tall register lady was so incredibly slow. SO FRUSTRATING, I don’t think i can ever justify coming back here again, not only did i loose out on 50 minutes, i never received my breakfast/lunch bc they never made it AND got the wrong order. For anyone wondering if they should come here- Don’t, it’s not worth the wait.Very upset at this coffee shop, was excited bc of the reviews posted. I understand that every restaurant is understaffed, but this issue is a direct reflection of bad management- Bad hire aside, they have the worst process for orders too- two customers ended up taking other customers’ order bc they don’t take names or provide receipts with an order. It’s really not worth it, We were better off going to Magpie diner for a sit down breakfast, would’ve been quicker and less frustrating, and wouldn’t have lost out on money either.
I do not normally write reviews, but my family and I left so unsatisfied, I feel the need to. We decided to stop at this local coffee shop on the way home from our trip. It had great reviews and seemed like a wonderful cafe. That was not the case today. The girl up front taking our orders was great and doing a lot of the work making drinks. Our sandwich orders were somehow forgotten and made incorrectly. Croissant on one sandwich was very burned, the other was supposed to be a croissant, but it was a biscuit. We waited quite awhile. My mother in law had a sandwich on a biscuit and it was extremely dry. My goat cheese and tomato on a croissant was pretty good, but that’s hard to mess up.We had an americano and cappuccino to start with, but they were not great, extremely bitter. I ended up ordering a hot chocolate hoping that would be better. The hot chocolate had a faint chocolate flavor and was watered down. One of the girls was on her phone texting while the other two employees were working hard trying to get food and drinks out. I hope this wasn’t why our order was forgotten, took so long and was messed up, but seems most likely the reason. This place has the potential to be amazing, the vibes here seem awesome. I’m not sure if we hit it on a bad day, but our expectations were not great to begin with, which this place did not reach, we left disappointed after spending about $35 for three people. The best thing here I had was the bottled Apple & Eve apple juice.
Friendly staff and good coffee. 5 out of seven stars for a perfect score. We will return. Especially nice at this time of the year.
Love this place! Plenty of comfortable open seating, great coffee and excellent service, interesting things to eat, groovy decor, and an old video arcade game. High marks.
1st time visiting with my fiancé Rebecca on our way to Thanksgiving travels. We both ordered chai lattes with oat milk. The staff was friendly, the environment was great. Tons of places to sit and enjoy the space.HOWEVER … this was the worst chai latte I’ve ever drank. It was SO bitter and made the back of my throat feel like I just ate ginger. It LOOKED amazing … but they need to buy David Rio Spice Chai instead and put half the amount of cinnamon on top. Then they’d have a winner! Will be back in the future, loved the space and environment!
Wow, simply amazing. Starting off the day with something great is a staple in my life and thanks to this place for keeping that going. My family and I enjoyed our coffees, biscuits, and a cinnamon bun. You wont be disappointed with this place. Great atmosphere and people.
I got a positive vibe from the place. Service was good. Servers were friendly. Place was pretty full but weather was nice enough we found an outside table. There are only four or five outside tables. Paid almost $5 for an Ethiopian coffee pour-over. No reflection on the barista but whoever roasted it didnt get it sufficiently done because it had an overpowering green plant flavor. Not at all what I was expecting from an Ethiopian Coffee Bean. My companion who also ordered the same said the flavor reminded him of fermented grass...
Wonderful hidden gem of a coffeeshop with an industrial yet cozy feel. Ample interior seating space, and even a couple of "study nooks". Both the black coffee and the breakfast wrap were excellent. Will definitely drop in again the next time Im in town.
Great coffee and Canadian bacon with egg biscuits! Nice atmosphere. Will go again.
Oat milk cappuccino was the perfect foaminess and tasted as a cappuccino should. Atmosphere is wonderful with all of the art pieces hanging around and there is plenty of lounge options in the chill sit-down area. Def a nice place to wind down and refill your caffeine levels.
Stopped here twice while visiting the area and enjoyed it thoroughly. Great coffee, proper espresso bar, really good breakfast sandwiches on biscuits with goat cheese (other options too of course).
Great coffee place! People are nice and friendly. The atmosphere is great! Coffee is always 👌! The food is delicious! You can seat inside and outdoor.
Good food and open early! The only early game in town really which was useful to fuel up before early morning treks into the national park. The coffee was good, London fog was a little bitter. The bacon egg and cheese is dry, but if you ask for extra cheese you’re golden. The chorizo breakfast burrito is also good!Nice waitstaff/baristas too. Lots of space to sit and spread out inside.
It was nice! The coffee was decent, very hidden location made it difficult to find. Not a fan of them NOT asking for your name for orders because I grabbed the wrong sandwich.Food tasted great though! Taste was worth the price, but portion size was not.I got an iced vanilla latte and it was decent, both grateful and disliked the fact it wasnt sweeter.
Friendly staff, great breakfast sandwiches and desserts. Im no coffee connoisseur, but I really liked the latte I got. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Nice and cozy inside, good amount of space to sit.
Really nice place to hang out. They also have multiple small study rooms if you are looking for someplace to study. We had cappuccino, cabbage onion puff pastry and a slice of banana walnut bread. Everything was great but my favorite was banana walnut bread. Absolutely scrumptious!
Had so much potential, but my husbands hot mocha came cold as did my quiche. I would not recommend as they werent even busy. Pros: Everything tasted good, clean facility, nice staff, cute vibe.
Such delicious latte and probably the best banana bread I had in my life. Croissant egg sandwich was on point, not oily. Very cozy atmosphere with couches. Was a bit difficult to find as its not directly on the street
Super cute hipster coffee shop in an old factory complex turned coffee/brewery/restaurant/apartment scene close to downtown Harrisonburg. Breakfast biscuit sandwich got a thumbs up from my boyfriend and they had gluten-free bread and wrap options as well as lots of yummy looking gluten-full bakery items made in-house. The cappuccinos were European-style and better-than-average, although not quite up to my ongoing high standards of Blue Bottle.
Used to love this place. Last two times it has taken 30+ minutes to get a couple of breakfast biscuits. Had to return to the register to ask about our order both times. They "lost" our order both times. Coffee is the best in town. Definitely need some organizational help.
Aside from the name at first appearing quirky I knew from the online description of the java quality that this would be an excellent place to have a better than good cup of ambrosia/coffee! BlackSheepCoffeeHouse, thank you for the outdoor seating felt very safe.Service, we won’t mention and every thing we had to eat was delicious! Especially The Best cafe I’v Enjoyed in Months. Excellent thank you
Delicious coffee featuring local roasters! The space is wonderful for enjoying a cup by yourself, with friends, or while studying. They offer oat milk as a milk alternative, and that makes me so happy because Im allergic to soy and cant drink milk. Also, they make amazing breakfast sandwiches, paninis, salads, and pastries! If you like cinnamon rolls, you definitely need to try the ones Black Sheep make - so good!
WOW!! What a wonderful experience this coffee shop was! Located in the center of Harrisonburg Virginia in what looks like a refurbished old factory building. The coffee shop itself is large with plenty of comfortable seating options ( sofas and armchairs as well as plenty of tables and chairs! They also carry their own line of T-shirt’s and sweatshirts! The Coffee is outstanding and the offer a great variety of pastry with Vegan options as well! The Staff is very attentive and friendly! What a GREAT FIND!!
This is an absolutely awesome coffee shop. I came here with my friend to study and work on homework. It has good vibes and a comfy setting. Coffee is delish and reasonably priced. I definitely recommend going and we will return!
Fantastic coffee and coffee drinks in a quietly energetic atmosphere. Great for reading, working, talking...
I had the nicest Veggie Quesadilla, not smothered in cheese but with a lovely diverse veggie selection including eggplant, but didn’t snap a photo. These hazelnut enticements are next on my list, so intriguing! I hope they have them again!
Great atmosphere. Quality of coffee and service is hit-and-miss. Sometimes it seems like inexperienced people make the drinks and the drinks have a burned taste. It does seem that the quality is improving slightly over time. But the atmosphere is dynamite. Lots of great spaces.
The coffee is as strong as its atmosphere, the people are as kind as the smiling faces behind the counter, and the location encompasses the heart of Harrisonburg’s heritage. I recommend this quaint little spot to anyone who seeks a great cup of coffee and a good conversation!
🎉 Great coffee and food items with a cool vibe.❤️ Espresso is paired with sparkling water. Well done!⚠️ The pour-over coffees are $4.25. Seriously?! Way over priced IMO.
I adore this coffee shop. Amazing coffee and great atmosphere. Healthy snacks and drinks too.
