Black Salt Bar & Eatery - Bar in Auckland, New Zealand
Trying to understand the $2 take out fee for ordering take out
First time going there and the food was so delicious Ill definitely be back
This is a hidden gem. Everything was on point.
Food was great until the roaches came out to eat. After we ate we went to get a drink from the bar and the roach came out to greet us. So glad the waitress grabbed him with her hands and flung him to the floor.Looked around and seen more roaches!Clearly an infestation of roaches!!Its a NO thank you for me!!!!P.S food was good
The food was so dang gone good..But then as I stood at the bar waiting for my drink a ROACH!!!!THATS RIGHT A BLACK ROACH WAS CRAWLING ON THE BAR COUNTER.I ask the waitress "is that a ROACH? " she was like girrrrrrrl... and just used HER BARE HAND to SWIPE IT OFF THE COUNTER....I STOOD WITH MY HEAD IN MY HANDS, IN DISBELIEF! I LOOKED AROUND THE SECTION TO THE LEFT OF THE BAR AND YET ANOTHER ROACH..this one BROWN IN COLOR.. WAS CRAWLING AROUND. I TOLD THE WAITRESS ABOUT THAT ROACH AND SHE SAID... SHE DONT GET PAID TO KILL ROACHES😡🔥NEVER AGAIN EVER. BUT THE FOOD WAS GOOD JUST WISH I WOULD HAVE SEEN THE ROACHES FIRST...ITS A NO FOR ME!!STOMACH JUST QUEEZY 🤮
The food was very good. The server was awesome. Explained the meals. The fried cauliflower dish is worth going back!
Food was very delicious. We ordered garlic Naan, chicken Biryani, chicken Tikka and chicken vindaloo. We wanted food to be spicy and it was like we wanted it to be. We loved all the dishes and then ordered rasmalai which was the cherry on top. Loved it every bit here.
Delicious Vegan and gluten-free food...Loved the chili nan bread spicy and flavorful..will definitely come back ..Amazing customer service who helped us place an order was a Vegan as well so He knew exactly what we would like..all Vegans and gluten-free people will love the variety of options here
Went there for breakfast. What an amazing staff. Going back just because of them. Food was pretty good too.
Black Salt is an amazing dining experience. Food was delicious! My husband and I will definitely be back weekly to try EVERYTHING 😊. Thank goodness we found Indian food in the south suburbs!!!
The food was excellent service was very good. We will go again. Being from the local area that building has a long history of different restaurants. Black Salt is a good one.
Stopped in for breakfast, it was plentiful and well made, but the staff was the best part. A friendlier group youll never meet.
I hear this place is great for dinner and it’s always packed at night. For breakfast though, it’s empty and rightly so. I went there last Friday morning for breakfast with friends. They open at 830 am and we arrived at 930. I could forgive the smell of curry in the air (though it doesn’t scream of pancakes), but….no hosts, no servers. A cook came out and said “it’ll be another 15-20 minutes, I just turned on the grill.” Wait…what??? You opened an hour ago! So, our group of four left, leaving the cook as the only body in the place. They’d do better to stick with what they know and open for dinner only.
A hidden Gem with wonderful wonders. Our Hostess was very kind and welcoming. Then theres the food. It was amazing! Each dish ordered left us wanting to take even the smallest of leftovers home, not wanting to waste the smallest grain of rice or smallest drop of curry sauce. Will definitely be returning, if not for the food and kind hostess than for the beautifully decorated interior.
I was slightly hesitant about this place...the reviews are all over the place. People either love it or are disappointed in some way. My experience was good. Service was polite and fast. Flavors were authentic and the amount of spice was right in line with how I asked it to be prepared. So, overall my food was good and my experience was positive. Prices are reasonable. I am glad that I took the chance. I will be back
The service was ok thats not why I gave this place 1 star. I ordered 2 steak tacos, fries and a soda. Well I asked if there were refills and was told no because they only have can pops. What? A sit down restaurant with only can sodas? Ok I went with it. Their fountain soda machine was not plugged in and they were unable to use it. Ok no problem. My tacos took about 45 minutes to come out and I asked for salsa, sauce something. So the server came and offered me hotsauce or ketchup for tacos? He stated we dont have any salsa. Ok so I didnt bite into the taco but I tasted a piece of meat and unfortunately it was bland!!! No seasoning. I left it on the table and just didnt want anything anymore. The staff wasnt rude or anything its just the food was not good. My aunt ordered a mushroom burger they came back and said they dont have mushrooms oh boy. I asked other party members at my table how is their food and one by one no one cared for the bland taste. Finally management came over to see how was our dining experience and politely I told her my dilemma and she offered to have my food remade but at that time I was over it. She didnt charge me for the tacos which I was greatful but I was prepared to pay for it anyway. Overall the food wasnt great and our server kept forgetting items to bring to our table. We had a party of 11 so my suggestion is to Perhaps write it down so you wont have to make so many trips back and forth for forgotten items. Unfortunately I will not go back. Nor will the party I was with. Sorry for the lengthy review.
Walk in was empty 😕, Im thinking welp food must really be bad. I was dead wrong this place food was bangin...had the curry chicken, rice and bread. Good portions, food mad flavorful, and when i took my first bite had to thank the food gods on this. Definitely coming back check the rest of the menu out.
We were there on a Sunday evening at Black salt for a birthday party the food was amazing I got tandoori chicken and chicken marsala with garlic Naan bread. The portions were very filling the only upside for me was being charged for using credit card most people dont carry cash nowadays.
Good food and services but the music on Sunday is far too loud. For the second time, I see patrons enter and exit or sit down and leave a little while after. You are not able to enjoy a conversation. So sad to see others not be able to enjoy the food as the loud music hurts your ears and you cant enjoy the moment. Pls consider to turn it down a notch!
Black Salt Indian Bar & Restaurant food was not good today. Im hoping that it was just an off day. Based on the posted reviews some people said the food and service was good. That was not my experience the service was lacking; I had to ask for our table to cleaned and to have clean plates. The food was awful the Butter Chicken tasted bland; the rice looked and tasted old. I will not go to this restaurant again.
This is the most unprofessional establishment I have been to. There are bouncers/security guards at the door as if it were a club. I thought it was odd but ok fine. I placed a phone order that I was picking up. When I got home I realized my order was wrong. I was already having a long day so the last thing I wanted was to worry about an incorrect order. I went back for them to replace it. Frustrating but simple enough. I guess that was not as simple as I thought and clearly upset them because they made my vindaloo 10x as spicy as the original. It was nearly inedible and that’s saying a lot coming from me. I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately it was a very poor experience. The two women servers/bar tenders were nice enough and sympathetic to my issue. One of them called the cook an unsavory name which I originally found a tad unprofessional but at this point I’m inclined to agree with her.Honorable mentions: When I came back they were patting people down at the door and the music was so loud my whole body was literally vibrating in my chair. Has I expected a club setting my thoughts might be different but this was very off putting given that I just wanted a bite to eat after a long day.
Ohh my gawddddd this is a hidden gem!!!!!!! One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to this far. The atmosphere is so beautiful from the diamond stitching walls to the contrasting colors its such a beautiful setup. Ohh dont forget the staff that were are all welcoming and open will definitely go again. My portions were beyond large, they were enough to eat to get full and still have enough for lunch tomorrow 😎😎😎
Real good curries and lamb chops, one of a kind in this area. The service is excellent, they have nice 80s music and plenty of seating. Parking is free.
The ambience is very inviting with the detail decor, the Aloo Gobi Masala, was very tasty along with Naan. This is far the best I ever had each bite was delicious, definitely will be back.
Ive been here twice so far. Both times, the music was on point! House music on Sunday and classic 90s R&B on a Friday afternoon. The food is good, too. Ive had veg and keema samosas, chicken Tikka masala, shrimp and chicken vindaloo, garlic naan, galub jaman, and Rus malai. Everything was delicious and flavorful, but DEFINITELY overpriced. And they nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING. No way entrees shouldnt automatically come with some doggone rice. Added a surcharge for payment with a card without informed consent, which incidentally didnt happen the first time I dined here, only the second. So, Im not sure whats up with the inconsistency. Also charged $2 for bottled water I didnt ask for, but was offered and insinuated something was wrong with the tap water, which was a bit misleading. The front of the house folks are friendly and outgoing. Dont know if I will be back though, but glad I went to experience at least once.
Last night I came in to drink and order food and they were busy with birthdays. The two guys that were acting like managers probably did the least amount of work. They didnt even try to engage me when they saw my drink was empty.Youll know who they are by there tacky clothes and coked out eyes.Bartender was great for what she had to work with. The workload for a single bartender is massive. She did really well considering the bar is more like a bar you would have at home.I enjoyed my meal. It was a lot of food that I was going to split into two meals but it was so good that I just enjoyed the whole thing.
First time ordering today online through Door dash who btw listed the restaurants phone number incorrectly several places on their website. The phone# is correct if you search Black Salt on Google. Despite being unable to reach the restaurant by phone with questions about our order before arriving everything worked out okay. The woman at the bar apologized for the inconvenience, waited on us promptly and quickly helped us get the order corrected. Her manager ( I assume arrived as we were sorting everything out and was immediately alerted to the problem. He also quickly responded to make sure we got what we wanted and that the phone number issue was corrected. The service was great and so was my chicken tikki masala which was quickly and deliciously prepared by the kitchen. Best Ive had since arriving in the South suburbs. You do have to order rice and Naan separately so remember to do that if your order delivery or takeout. I cant wait to have this dish again. I wanted mine mild and it was perfect. Thanks to everyone who assisted us today. Please patronize this business. Its a little far for those around I-57 but theyre working hard to please. Lets help them succeed.
This is definitely the best Indian food I’ve had in the south suburbs. The food was flavorful, reasonably priced and the place has a nice ambiance. However, there were some major issues with food wait times and there was unorganized service. For example, my fathers main course never found its way to the table. Found this a bit disappointing because it was a rather slow Friday night. This place has the potential to be a true gem if it can work out its kinks though. Would love to see this place packed.
So excited to have this place nearby! Having had Indian cuisine all around the city, this did not dissappoint. Though they did forget our sauces on the take-out order, the pappadum were crisp and tasty, the naan was done well. The sauces were GREAT. Shrimp was succulent and the chicken in Tikka Masalla was really well done. Samosas were a bit too spicy for my taste but overall, really nice.
Not authentic Indian food at all. I ordered chicken vindaloo and it had no spice to it whatsoever. It was more of a tomato paste straight out of a can mixed with garlic and ginger. I do not recommend this place for Indian food.Service was slow and unprofessional. Server never asked for spice level.I will not return here.
Nice place....House Music on Sundays. Djs were good, nice atmosphere and crowd. I will try the food next time. I ordered my regular orange/pineapple juice and the bartender gave me the biggest cup ever for $2!!
My husband ordered from this establishment today. Ive eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants so I know what to expect. The food was ok. I was disappointed. Upon arriving home, I opened up a dish of burnt vegetables. If we were dinning in instead of take out we wouldnt have been given throwaway food.. A much better restaurant is Tandoori House. The one in India is good. The one inTinley Park is best.
Flavor, variety, presentation - they do it all here. I have tried several different menu items and all have been incredible. This was one of my first experiences with Indian food but it will not be my last. Even if you have to by pointing at pictures they have those too. Come and get these guys a try!
Excellent service, delicious food. What else can you ask for?
My first time here, the welcoming was warm following by the outstanding customer service. The ambiance and music its great. Now the food its absolutely delicious and so colorful, I promise each dish has its own taste and freshly made. I must definitely recommend this place and you will love it.
This place is top of the line restaurant 👌. The food is awesome staff is very friendly. Nice & clean inside top to bottom. A+ for me.
Tried this restaurant for the first time Friday and I am amazed by the flavors. Had a nice chat with a gentleman at counter and he was very professional and respectful. Food is excellent and reasonably priced. Thank you for taste of India. I will definitely be returning.
if youre looking for authentic Indian cuisine in the south suburbs then youll find it at Black Salt. From the Curry Goat to the Vindaloo Shrimp... If you appreciate spice youll appreciate this place all the flavors meld together perfectly... 😋Service by Shelly and Pader was excellent... if there was one draw back its the charge for using a credit card.. just add the $2.4 in the price... Will definitely be back soon
I just moved into the area a year ago and coming from Chicago I was hard pressed to find a good local Indian restaurant, until I found Black Salt. I brought my wife who had only tried Indian food one time before but didn’t like it. I ordered a good selection on food for her to try hoping she would find something she liked, and she couldn’t get enough of it! We started out with vegetable samosas. Then for main course I ordered tandoori chicken, chicken tiki Marsala, biryani chicken, jasmine rice, and plain and garlic naan. Everything was perfect! My wife just kept saying I would definitely eat here again. Good service, great food, i highly recommend it!
I ordered the lamb curry medium hot. It was delicious with tender lean meat and savory sauce. The garlic naan bread is soft and tasty. The young man who took my order was really nice and we chatted while I waited for the to go order. I’ll be back!
Ordered take out and it was amazing! Chicken briyani was nicely flavored. Kardai chicken was excellent too. Meat is cooked to perfection.
My husband and I love Indian food, but struggled to find a good place nearby. I am SO happy we found this place because the food is AMAZING! We ordered take out and the food was hot and ready within 15 minutes! And they even gave us extra rice. Everything was so delicious. We will definitely be ordering from here again soon!
I will admit I was skeptical for several reasons but I had only eaten Indian food in the Middle East (not in India but much closer than Americaand I enjoyed it. I wanted to find a local place and introduce Indian food to my friends and family. I stumbled on Black Salt in the south burbs off of 394 and figured it was better than nothing, not expecting much. The food was GREAT and my family enjoyed it also. What really stuck out to me was the owner of a popular BBQ restaurant was inside eating a meal with a friend when I stopped in for a pick up. I said hello and he started recommending items to me off the Black Salt menu. If I give any caution it is this...Black Salt clearly states they have a variety of menu items and cuisines they offer. That said, dont make assumptions about the ambiance or decor etc. They offer more than Indian cuisine so it will not resemble sitting down in an Indian restaurant. I do not think the food will disappoint you however so if nothing else give the take out a try. If you want to sit down, why not? If you want to take it to go, like I do, Im sure theyll appreciate the patronage. Overall, give it a shot and spread the word. Im tired of having to go up north for food especially when we have places like Black Salt right in our backyard.
I am a truck driver passing through town and Im telling you....THIS FOOD IS INSANELY DELICIOUS! You must stop in!!!
Really its a great experience in the restaurant, the taste of food was amazing and the quanty is very satisfying, Very good service , Very great recipes, perfect place for birthday partys and hangouts, and the Managment is also very good talking and great welcoming. Loved alot I recommend to all my friends .
WOW WOW WOW I ordered several Indian dishes and they were truly amazing. I was surprised to see this style of food in this area but oh boy am i happy i found it. For sure adding it to one of my go to restaurants. It completely solved the craving I had and then some. If you want to try some Indian dishes then this is the place to go you will not regret it. plus the price to food ratio is great
I loved EVERYTHING I ordered. The Tandoori chicken, was amazing. The veggie samosas, were made fresh and, so delicious. The Lamb Biryani, was out of this world. The establishment is newly remodeled, with a classy Ambience. The waitress was really Attentive, with quality service. I am really happy a Indian restaurant opened closer to home, rather than having to travel to the city for good quality ,Indian cuisine. I will definitely be going back for more.
Service is a little slow for takeout, but the food is pretty decent. I love the redecoration
Their food is AMAZING! I love that their menu shows what is gluten free and/or vegan. Their food is full of flavor and was told they use organic ingredients too! I’ve loved every dish I’ve tried, especially the spicy ones! Even my daughter loves their food and she’s a picky toddler!
The food was really good, the atmosphere really nice on a Saturday evening. R&B music playing, people stepping and the service was great as well. The drinks were strong so you’ll get your moneys worth and they aren’t over priced. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because it took a long time for the food to come out but I figured because they cook everything fresh more than likely or because they may not be fully staffed as of yet. There was a little mix up with something on the menu and price but other than that I enjoyed it and will be returning.
