Black Lion in Tombouctou
Description
Best pub in Hampstead, Rockeoke the other week was so much fun. Staff were super friendly and made us feel so welcomed. Will definitely be back for a beer or two.
MoreWe had a brilliant time at the Black Lion. We went along for a Sunday roast. We booked it because of some good reviews and we absolutely loved it. It was buzzy but not overcrowded, the food was gorgeous (we wanted the triple roast but they had run out of chicken, so I had the roast pork loin which was amazing, and my friend had a compromise double roast with pork and beef, which was also delicious). The only thing missing was a crumble and custard for dessert, but the sticky toffee pudding was lovely. Everyone looking after us was friendly and efficient, and by the time we left we were making plans to come back.
MoreFantastic service and food/drinks. The atmosphere was very relaxed and uplifting, definitely recommended, even just for a drink if youre near the area!!
MoreGood prices, friendly staff and atmosphere, food looks lovely.
Sat outside at a picnic table for drinks Saturday lunchtime. Had a function going on inside that had taken over most of the indoor space. House Ale was a competent bitter, service was quick and friendly. West Hampstead/London drink prices. Bonus celebrity ex-mayor Ken Livingstone was at a nearby table.
MoreFirst time at the black lion today. WOW! Josie exceeded expectations - best pint ever. 10/10 recommend and I will be definitely be back
MoreLovely pub and lovely people - would highly recommend! A special thanks to Josie for her incredible pint pouring skills.
MoreLovely pub with a great outdoor area! A special thank you to Josie, our server, who was fun and professional.
MoreSpent a wonderful evening at the Black Lion in West Hampstead. Enjoyed some delicious fish and chips and live music. my experience was made even better by the wonderful staff, especially Josie and her delightful mojitos!
MoreYoure definitely spoilt for choice for nice pubs in west hampstead, but this is easily our favourite. Really great atmosphere, lovely indoors with a nice outdoor space too. The menu is always great, delicious food and really affordable, and lots of veggie and vegan options. The staff are really friendly, and theres always something fun on like quizes or live music!
MoreSuperb spot to chase away a few hours. Jumped in here for an afternoon boost. Top menu, brilliant belly feeder, especially for a pub as I see some have already pointed out - flawless pub food. Accommodating team behind the bar, including manager Christian whos quite the gregarious character!!
MoreWe recently visited The Black lion and honesty what an awesome experience. They were doing rockaoke that we absolutely loved we took part (obviously). What we found really awesome was the the Sous chef Alex came out of the kitchen and took part what an absolute legend. Food was outstanding as well as the service. We will be coming back for sure.
MoreThe Black Lion is a hidden gem in West Hampstead. One of the best pubs we have been so far. We went there a while ago with my family to have dinner and were surprised to find out that they were also doing Rockaoke. Atmosphere was awesome we had the best night ever. Food was outstanding as well as the service. We met the sous chef Alex there who came to greet us as we told one of the waiter to send our compliments to the chefs for the food. Best experience ever will definitely come back.
MoreI visited the Black Lion for their debut Rockaoke night, which I think happens every Wednesday. Great atmosphere from the live music, and the staff were pleasant and friendly.Danielle, our server was knowledgeable about the gluten free options on the menu and her and the kitchen went above and beyond to cater to my allergy.I had the pork rib eye which was delicious and value for money. Id highly recommend a visit to the Black Lion, especially on a Wednesday!
MoreOrdered the vegan burger. It was the most disgusting thing Ive ever tasted. Tasted like fat, and I couldnt even have a bite. I asked what it was and they said beyond burger - soy and something else.I had to return it as it was not edible. Although they gave me a bowl of olives to apologise, they still charged me full price for a burger I didnt touch without even asking if I want anything else! Not really acceptable when you pay £14 for burger to have something that tastes even worst than a cheap supermarket burger.
MoreI hadnt ventured inside since a number of visits during the 1990s. A rather more stripped out affair these days. And the garden is now closed because the neighbours complained of the noise. So why buy a flat next to a pub?! But the quiz that Sunday was good fun. Hadnt partaken in such for sometime.
MoreAlways a nice place but I wish they could split their outdoor space into a portion for smokers and for non-smokers. Realise they cant do anything about traffic pollution but the smokers could be put in one section.
MoreI live near parliament hill and I came here for a quick drink last Sunday. A worker (I think her name was Lottiewas so lovely, she had seated me well and the food was perfect! Would come again :)
MoreI had a great time here, Lottie was my server and she was so friendly and she gave me my drinks really fast. We loved our lunch here and I really want to come again.
MoreSuch a lovely pub, great outdoor space, amazing food and great staff. I will definitely go again.
MoreNice spacious pub with outdoor seating in the front and back. Tasty burgers and lovely staff.
MoreWent for a quick pint, was served by Lottie, vibrant and fun place, will have to stop by more often
MoreWhat a lovely evening had by all at the Black Lion last weekend! The staff were very friendly and attentive. Christian and Josie ensured we had a lovely night by providing great service. Would definitely recommend this place!
MoreOne of my favourite pubs in London to go to. Great food and atmosphere. Staff are all lovely especially Danielle who always gives me a warm welcome when I arrive!
MoreHad such a great evening in the black lion. Experience made even better by Josie whose service was excellent. Would defo recommend!
MoreGreat pub very friendly and welcoming staff especially Josie and Aaron who served me. Highly recommend!!
MoreFood was disappointing - the fish and chips were greasy and not very tasty. The kids menu had no regular veggies - got substituted for mushy peas.Ok for drinks, but not if you want to have a nice family meal
MoreWent Nandos to eat - across the road.To be specific to your question, no service was generally good. We only had chips while having a drink there and the quality of the chips were fine.
MoreThe pub is very nice BUT there is something wrong with the beers. We ordered 4 pints "Peroni", we got 4 disgusting beers served in front of us.My friend works for Peroni and that one wasnt ... We felt bad (stomach ache etc). What a shame cuz the pub is very nice.
MoreOutstanding!! We are regulars in Black Lion and always loved the food and service! They have changed their menu and have some truly amazing seasonal dishes! The pork rib eye is a must try 😋 beautifully cooked with the smoothest turnip purée I ever had paired with mushrooms and a sweet apple chutney which brings the dish to whole new level! Service again outstanding as always, special mention to Jacob who looked after us and made our little girl laugh. We will definitely be back soon and highly recommend it everyone. Thank you team Black Lion!!!
MoreExcellent pub in West Hampstead. Great to sit inside or outside, there is also a beer garden in the back with plenty of space.Menu looked excellentGreat drinks and summer cocktails on offer at the bar.Very friendly service, all the staff were really great and helpful.Very clean bathrooms too. There is pub quiz on a Sunday which is great.Overall great place, definitely visit in the area.Check out my profile for pub and bar reviews.
MoreHad drinks and nibbles. Everything was great and the service was some of the best I’ve experienced in a London pub. Everyone was super friendly, attentive and extremely considerate.
MoreLovely staff, good food. Lots of screens so there isnt a bad spot in the place if you want to watch sports.
MoreReally nice pub. Only dropped by for a quick pint, so didnt try the food. Staff were friendly and helpful. Building and layout are pleasant. My only issue is the price of a pint: £6.50 for a pretty normal ale. Crazy. Although, apparently this is normal, so its not a criticism of this place in particular. Just, be warned!Otherwise, keep up the good work!
MoreWonderful time at the Black Lion, West Hampstead, yesterday before the play off final at Wembley. Great food, wide selection of beers and Aaron couldn’t have been more helpful. 5 stars
MoreLovely little pub with a great selection of craft beers. The staff were very friendly and let us sample a few beers before we decided. Food was impressive too for a pub - my sea bass was beautifully cooked and the dish was well put together with chorizo, potato and samphire (which I thought was pretty fancy for a pub!to complement the freshness of the fish.
MoreIm biased. Love that place! Great gluten free beer and vegan selections on the menu
MoreCame for our first traditional Sunday roast and were not disappointed. Roast beef was tender, roast pork belly was savory and crisp. Roast chicken was tender and so delicious. Most as good were the vegetables. We wct stuffed to gills.
MoreA lovely pub with some very friendly and thoughtful staff! The food was amazing, with a top notch selection of beer. They also had a very talented artist playing live music. Highly recommended.
MoreHad some great food from the Sunday menu with very friendly service. Was very loud and service was a little slow, but this was due to lack of foresight on our part, as the pub plays sports matches and we had booked to eat at the same time as a Six Nations game!
MoreI had lunch there on Sunday and despite the place being jam packed, Iona was able to find us a table … she’s very efficient. The food was surprisingly good, because we haven’t always been so lucky with the now departed chef. I’m going there again this Sunday just to see whether they will keep up their high standard. ( I am a self confessed foodie)😀
MoreThis is my favorite Pub ! Beautiful interiors, delicious food, and a great selection of drinks. The service is what really makes it stand out though, everyone is so personable and kind. In particular, Iona has been very welcoming and helpful. Cheers !
MoreOften a lively and busy bar on West End Lane, its often used as a meet up place. The food was perfectly fine and your usual pub variety. Service was good and friendly, especially from the waitress with the amazing memory! There was a mix up with our bill at the end of the evening, which I dont think was handled particularly well and resulted in a bit of embarrassment, but these things happen and it was only a small dampener. Im sure that we will be back here again before too long.
MoreGreat pub in West Hampstead ideal with small children, always a good time. Multiple ipa,s on draft. Come here regularly, the Sunday roast is good!
MoreI visited last Sunday for a roast and what a roast it was! I had roast chicken, stuffing, sausage, potatoes, Yorkshire, cabbage, some fancy sauces and Peroni which is my favourite beer. My girlfriend had a coconut curry which she also said tasted very good with no drink as she only wanted water. Why only 4 stars, well when we arrived we didn’t see a sign about being seated so we seated ourselves. Then we were asked if a girl with curly hair seated us and she hadn’t so we had an awkward wait while someone checked if we could sit there. In the end it was fine and the food was fantastic. Also for 2 meals and a Peroni we paid £40 which is a bit steep although you do get quality and quantity as we had no room for dessert.
MoreReally great Sunday lunch. The vegetarian roast was really delicious, although the gravy was slightly closer to being soup than expected. The beef burger was also tasty with the right balance of veg to burger. A touch more salsa would have made it even better.Dessert was the only course to survive long enough to be photographed and was delicious.Price wise it’s on the higher end of “normal” dining for a Sunday but atmosphere and service alongside the food made it worth it for me.
MoreCozy place, lovely food and sexy high quality beers! Oustanding service from the staff; especially Rafa! Easy top pick if Yo uare in West Hampstead!+p.s. dont miss the hidden gem of a garden on the back :)
MoreGreat place for good selection of drinks, tasty food and fun atmosphere. Great screens to watch sports as well.
MoreThe vibe in this gastropub is really good. Go there if you want have a beer pass some nice time with your friends. If you want have a good dinner I am not sure. We order a starter and it was ok the camembert cheese with bread, I liked the spicy jam. As main I ordered the duck with figs and it was ok but not super. The duck was a bit dry and on the top the skin was burned...I guess they forgot one minute more in the oven. The burger was dry as well, nothing special, (I had a bit more of aspectation from a gastropub), we had to add some mayo inside to eat it. The service was ok even if we received the food before of the beers....
MoreIt was one of my favorite places to eat in London! Its a beautiful restaurant, te service and food was excellent. The local beer they served was very good! A perfect place to have a nice lunch or dinner. Or just to have a pint and enjoy an evening with friends.
