1800s village featuring period buildings, artifacts, costumed guides & educational programs.
Great atmosphere and interesting activities to do. Learned a lot about the customes and history of the first Canadian settlerers.
Great place to spend the day with your family! My young children always have a great and educational time when we go. Definitely recommend for some good family fun 👍
I took a friend from Calgary to visit Pioneer village. The place has potential, but is sad that the staff is not complete, I guess after pandemic is difficult to have people staying at their job. I wish they have more sings and explanation of the different buildings. And sadly were 3 buildings close for renovations. Hope they can read this to improve the place because is really pretty.
This is one of Torontos historical treasures. A village made up of real settlers home who settled here in the 1800s. Fun interactive activities for family. Lovely walking streets and boardwalks. It hosts live demos of the way settlers lived and did life. Stunning colors in autumn.
Great place to experience the life and history of early Canadian settlers. They have interactive demos to show how people work and live in the old ways
I had a great time with my brother and friends there and would recommend going there to anyone including young and older families a like. Great and helpful staff too. And great demonstrations of Victorian day life and activities as well. Great selection of gifts at the gift shop as well, food and drink sold in the pavilion and in the gift shop as well. Around $16 dollars to get in but if you present a Presto card I believe its $5 dollars off of the admittance price.
An amazing day. Many thanks to Lynette for the wonderful churned butter for the freshly baked bread we bought. I was amazed also at the huge work horses and their beauty. I will definitely be going back for another visit.
Fantastic park, a real travel in time. Friendly staff. Worth to visit.
It was great to experience how they have preserved everything from the 18th century. They were pretty informative and it was a lot of fun to see people dressed up the as way as they used to. It looked like a scene out of an old movie
An incredibly amazing and beautiful open-air heritage museum, the village is a re-creation of lifestyle in 19th century Ontario. It’s a time machine that will take you back to the mid 1800s life in a village in Toronto to explore over forty 19th century buildings and furnishings. It’s a great learning experience for kids to explore life in the past. The site features historical enactments and artisans which provides a great hands-on learning opportunity for young kids to learn about life in the past. There’s a printing press, a barn, family houses from the 1860s, blacksmith’s shop, church, schoolhouse, hotel and many other buildings from the era. Animals on the farm including goats, sheep, rabbits and horses are great fun for kids. The village is very well maintained and there is plenty of parking space available for visitors. Highly recommended for families with kids and well worth a visit for anyone interested in experiencing time travelling.
Awesome place and We got Immersed in the 1860s and explored an authentically re-created country village of the Toronto region. We looked at historic buildings and exciting programs that engaged my kids.We could meet costumed educators who not only involved people of all ages but also engaged all in lot of fun engaging hands-on activities and very open to questions. We got to see collection of 5000+ artifacts which made us wondering how they were made at those times. It was surprising to know that they moved entire buildings from 100+ years and ensured that they preserve thier originality inspite of harsh Canadian weather.. multiple special fall events in weekends made it even more pleasant. Dont miss the gardens and load of apple trees during the fall season.. Strongly recommend this to people with kids who can get inspired and curious..
We did the Haunted Walk. Our guide Margo was great! The stories were scary and she did an amazing job at setting the mood with an on point theatrical performance. The experience leaves you wanting to go back to the village during the day if you havent seen it before.
We did the haunted tour at night; it was definitely spooky and our guide, Sarah, did a fantastic job at delivering the narrative and sharing anecdotes during our visit.
I love going to places where the experience exceeds the expectations! Black creek pioneer village is a family must visit. This hidden germs is spectacular. The music, the vibes, the authenticity, the details make the whole experience so real. Don’t miss it out!
Black Creek Pioneer VillageThis is a historical open-air museum , made in the form of a rural settlement of the 19th century . Everything is so natural that the feeling that you are inside a medieval horror does not leave😁Some of the houses are in their original location. And some were transported entirely from the southern parts of Ontario.Project Author : Restoration Architect B. Napier Simpson Jr. 1925-1978
Very cute place. Good place for kids for sure
Great place for the family with young kids. Better visit on weekends. There will be more activities you can try and explore.
Not as good as expected.children might have a bit fun but I cannot recommend it to anyone... The only thing which was good there was a chance to experience or play the old games...
Good place to go if you’re a history lover, nice and quiet environment along with cooperative staff and eases to light refreshments.can recommend.
It was beautiful and it was a good feeling to remember the old days. It is better to have more people in old clothes, there were few.
Had a great time exploring this heritage museum town and learning about Canadian pioneers from the 1800s. Free tix with Credit Valley Conservation Parks membership. Lovely summer day out.
Living my Anne of Green Gables Fantasy… As beautiful as the Haunted Walk was… it was amazing to learn a little more about the History of this beautiful city … travel back in time and experience the lifestyle from an era gone by. Great work by our guide Casandra and the whole team of Haunted Walks Toronto!
Had a wonderful tour guide! Casandra was extremely polite and knowledgeable about the location. Felt very excited during the entire stay. Would recommend to anyone that enjoys a history lesson with a bit of spook ☺️
We did the " Where the dark things dwell" experience. It wasnt really what we were expecting. The actors were missing or seemed to have wandered off at a couple points which led to us waiting and missing out on time we could have spent doing puzzles. Which leads me to my next point, the puzzles require more than just basic math, in fact 2 puzzles were asking some complex math questions that led to us having to use a calculator ( which they said at the beginning not to use our own stuff to solve but myself not being good with numbers, needed help). I wish they had focused more on the scare part of it, and less on the complexity of the puzzles, because black creek village is the PERFECT setting for a scary escape room. We had high hopes, but werent overly impressed. My suggestion is less complex puzzles, focus more on the scare experience.Giving it a 3 star due to a few really committed actors and the setting is perfect, otherwise it would have scored lower.
The stories were good but the experience and ambience were not. Weddings, loud music and people shouting in groups with bright lights ruined the experience for me. Also, people taking the tour should be asked to not make noise when inside the houses as it totally kills the vibe!
Great Experience, Some Places Were Under Renovation, But A Pretty Cute Little Spot To Visit!
A great place to learn about life in Torontos distant past. You can spend about a fun few hours here exploring the various historic buildings and interacting with the staff demonstrations. Its mostly outdoors so a hat is recommended.I spent 3 hours there and I did basically everything available.
It was really cool to see original buildings built from 1800s..felt like I stepped back in time. Everyone who worked there was pleasant and friendly. This place well take you another time, they have many historic home .Very authentic and well preserved
This place is always nice to go to and Ive been here since I was very young. The staff are always very in character which is cool in an unusual way. And I love the animals too, theyre very nice and definitely add to the atmosphere. Its especially cool that they sheer the sheep and make rugs and blankets out of it!
I loved the atmosphere of the village earlier in the day. Our family went on Fathers day and we all had never been there before. It is part of the park system that you can buy a membership with where you can get the perk of free parking. It was the perfect size that was walkable for the kid. He enjoyed talking to the various artisans and trying to convince them to help them. They were very entertaining for my kid. The whole place is like time stopped and you can just enjoy the beautiful scenery. When the brewery is back in service - would love to enjoy a brew on the porch of the inn.
Attended a wedding reception here. Lovely venue, outside but under a pavilion. The catering was amazing! So much good food. The staff were very professional and your plate was never empty. The walk to the Pavilion was a little difficult on uneven ground, for elderly guests and not well lit in the dark.
Beautiful re-created village of Toronto region that’ll right away take you to 1860s and will give a glimpse of the lifestyle and day to day activities of the people who lived during that time. It houses around 50,000 artifacts that’ll help you in understanding the past. In the village, You’ll see half house Inn/ Tavern(served as an apartment and hotel), an old printing press with some sample posters, doctor’s house- tools, medicine bottles and a rate chart, an old water mill , A big barn, shoe maker’s shop, A school and many more old buildings which will teach you some history. You’ll also see animals like rabbits, goats, horses, bronze turkey etc. Plenty of parking and is not that expensive as well. Village is well maintained and you’ll see shady trees and greenery everywhere. Good place to spend your day if you have kids as will be worth a visit.
Pretty much an essential spot to visit with kids in Toronto once youve gone past the usual more popular attractions. The name sums up the overall idea of the village but its really all about the merger of physically moving and being in the buildings and learning about their history that makes Black Creek great. This history is the stuff students may get to read about for several years (or less for myselfthen never really come back to. So whether or not you are deep in a pioneer history kick the village is quite an interesting visit. We did about 2 hours of walking and if you find yourself out on "Doors Open Toronto" the visit would be free.
A beautiful place to visit !I went to black Creek on the open doors day, so the tickets were free!Definitely recommended
I visited during the Doors Open 2022, there was a long line to prepay for parking, but it was easy to park and theres a lot of space in the village so it was not crowded. Most buildings were nice inside, but I felt some of them missed elements to give us a better idea / illustrate how they were used back then, like the blacksmith one with a few tools that you cant see much from distance. Or another one next to the town hall that basically had a chair and a cart.Overall it was good to visit, as we could take our dogs and we only paid for parking.
The staff is very friendly and lively. I enjoyed going to the gift shop inside the main facility. They have a lot of historic exibits and have really cute farm animals. Great for a family trip.
Old school but fun. Our daughter might drag her feet about going but once she is there she doesnt want to leave. She loves learning about how things were done in the old days. She loved the Halloween treasure hunt. She loves talking to the actors who learn their craft. She loves all the animals. Its fun mix for both adults and kids for learning.
very disappointing. 1st of all it took 40min to get to the main gate then its in some conservative area where driving in the sloppy narrow road was not fun plus its not very fabulous lighting. there are very few ice sculptures which are not something you say Wow. I took my 13th month baby girl even she got bored with it. not going there anymore.
Very great winter light show. Not too busy, a bit cold, but nice. Not many staff but ready to negotiate walk. Price was reasonable.
Attended winter glow. First time attending a walk through light event, kids really enjoyed running around looking at the lights. Accessible for all, paved path to walk on. Two food trucks serving food and hot chocolate and at end of walk you have option to take a bus back to parking lot or walk back. I think the bus ride was highlight for our little ones
My first time visiting. It was so beautiful in the winter and the snow-topped trees. Also had nice Christmas decorations. It was a bright day, not freezing cold. We did the self-guided tour. I downloaded and printed a map but the arrows along the paths clearly indicated the one-direction flow for socially distancing. There was limited entry into the buildings which were clearly posted at each entrance. We arrived at 11:15am and stayed for 3hours. Eating and drinking permitted outdoors only. Masks must be worn indoors. A few buildings had staff dressed in the period (19th centurydemonstrating the respective occupations, e.g., tinsmith, printer, and doctor. Lovely gift shop was open. Gallery was closed. Parking was $8.59. I totally enjoyed my visit and hope to visit on summer.
Enoyed these Christmas lighting there and the whole trailer is so well organized that each visitor feels a personal attention and touch.
Great as a brisk healthy walk in nature but not at all frightful or scary for the thrill seekers in you. This is a nice date spot or family oriented experience. For those looking for more scares try nightmares in niagara or fear farm.Again not bad and a nice scenic walk just not my cup of tea.Happy Haunting
So happy i purchased the photo permit for pioneer village!! Photos are amazing! The only part i was disappointed in was parking... if i purchased a photo permit and they allow 20 people for the permit i believe parking should be included for the vehicles but unfortunately only 1 vehicle is included. other then that great experience
I give this awesome place a five stars plus. I enjoyed all the colonial style buildings, learned about the lifestyle of settlers, and enjoyed some chats with people entertaining guests. A very nice place to visit.
The haunted walk experience was very interesting and fun!!! Zoe was very nice and great at telling haunted stories and a super host! Loved the experience
Ive gone to Black Creek Pioneer Village multiple times since I was a kid and I always have such a great time! Most recently, I attended last nights Haunted Walk tour. Our guide, Sarah, was super knowledgeable and amazing storyteller. She had so many eerie anecdotes to share with us on our tour. It was easy to enjoy ourselves while remaining socially distant from the other 4 people that joined us.There was the perfect balance of spooky stories, as well as being able to explore the experience the houses in a brief walk-through. We even spotted two spirits while on the tour -- on the stairwell of the Half-Way House, and someone walking along the path near the church cemetery.Ill definitely be coming back for another one of these tours and recommending it to my friends.
Fantastic place for visiting with kids! There is a lot to learn about the ways everyday things were done in the 19th century. The actors are amazing in answering any additional questions you might have too.
I had such a wonderful time there. It takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to tour the whole place. I learned so much about Canadas Victorian pioneers and seeing the staff/guides walking around dressed in Victorian clothing made the whole experience truly come alive. Thank you to all the staff there and for preserving this gem of a village! Look how cute!
Lovely village set in early 1860s - smaller and bit more run-down than Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg. Did the self-guided tour - expect to spend 2-4 hours here, especially if you want to visit all the buildings and have a snack or lunch in the middle along with washroom break as its a lot of walking! I recommend arriving as soon as they open at 11am so you can walk through at your own pace. Pre-covid, they had staff dressed up in the buildings but not anymore, so expect to walk through empty buildings and do the reading/ discovering on your own. Of course there is restricted access to some areas (i.e. staircases in buildings to go upstairs/ downstairs to basement, eating areas, etc.). They have some thematic tours at different times; we joined the farm animal tour in the second half of our visit. The guide was very knowledgable and engaging. The gift shop is also open for treats and souvenirs. I recommend this place for a family outing :)
