Large, imposing church built in Gothic style & named for dark color left by a 17th-century fire.
Black Church in Bistrita
Description
Privilege
One of the most iconic place in Brasov. No.1 to visit
This place has a lot of history but unfortunately not much is offered to see as most location within the church has "no entry" signs although the ticket to get into the chick was around £3 per person
MoreThe early gothic architecture at its best. If you’re close to Brasov do not miss this beautiful church in the center of the old town.
MoreBeautiful gothic church. Some decorative elements are being restored. There is an organ inside. On the walls, bas-reliefs, biographies of medieval rulers.
MoreA Lutheran church, use to be a Catholic church. Its nice, but when you live in a Catholic country as we do, then this is nothing new.
MoreInteresting that entrance to church is with tickets. Not expensive, but still...
Very impressive church. It is next to town centre, in the main market Square.
Absolutely stunning . Lots to read inside while visiting .
The black church is so huge and so beautiful! You should definitely go there while in Brasov
MoreStunning piece of art
It is not clear what the entrance fee to the church is for.Theres nothing to look at inside at all.The beautiful name of the church, which attracts the attention of tourists. But in fact there is no "historical utility" inside.
MoreLocals are naturally proud of the church but its by no means a must-see.Not one of the truly impressive churches but nice enough.
MoreVery nice architecture
Worth visiting to see the Ottoman carpets inside. Impressive with its sheer size from outside however very modest decoration inside.
MoreThe Black Church, also known as the Church of Saint Mary, is a Lutheran church in the city of Brasov, Romania. It was built by the Transylvanian Saxons. It is the largest building in the Gothic style in the country. It looks majestic!I recommend a visit!
MoreA gorgeous gothic cathedral with impressive organ concerts
Very rude staff members. They were yelling and swearing. Swearing, in a Church? Disgusting. Its a shame, because the Church is very beautiful outside and on the inside.
MoreWhat a incredible place . I can’t believe that . I’m frome Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 this is my first time come to Europe ❤️
MoreI love the black church.Greetings from Ana Gheorghiu to Raziel Angel. With Love ❤️ from Cluj-Napoca.
MoreImpresive since it was built around 1683 i believe, but just another tourist trap. Nothing to see inside that much. It should be free to enter since is a church my opinion, but they all need $ to survive. Add a donation box instead of charging an entrance fee. Carpets shown are modern carpets seems like it.
MoreThe place is very beautiful and interesting, but I was expecting more Since the entrance is not free
MoreHistoric church, not so rich in decoration but it has a very important role in the city
MoreThe city management may take better care of this historical monument
I see no reason to go inside for any European that probably has better churches at home and for free.
MoreOne of the most important landmarks in Brașov! Definetly worth visiting it.
One of the most important objective in Brasov. It is important to get a guide otherwise you wont get the full experience.
MoreFamous monument from old Transylvanian town, one of the biggest medieval churches in this part of Europe. Building is impressive, recommend to visit it.
MoreThe door man was not freindly nor helpful. He stop me and ask for a ticket, I ask where can I purchase one, since there was no ticket booth close by. He abruptly just swung his arm in a rolling motion like just sending me away without a clear indication were to purchase the ticket. I had to scott around, finally I found a store selling other thing including the tickets. It was 15 Lei. He then semi tore part of the perforation had handed it back. He did not welcome me nor said anything. Inside is some tombstones. Wood floor, rustic looking. I do not recommend going paying to go inside. Just admire the construction architecture from the outside.
MoreGood experience within Brasov, church was nice. Quaint saxon city.
If you visit Brasov and ommit the Black Kirch - you ll miss very much. You ll miss great a lot.Gorgeous, as the city itself, impressive and breathtaking outside and inside. A real masterpiece.Great much can be told about Its history.I was impressed my Its sizes. Enormous. Outside and inside.I was walking around it several times and spent an hour or more inside. Enjoying each corner.I wont tell much, because there are moments and impressions, one has to experience oneself.
MoreVery beautiful. I didnt go inside, but the architecture outside is magnificent. The dark color of the walls is not the original color, but its a color aquired because the pollution. As everything in Romania (when i was thereits under repairs, but you can have a great view of this beautiful building. If you have time theres a musem, and inside the church there is a huge pipe organ and Transylvanian tapestries. You shouldnt miss this. I will have to come back:)
MoreYou must to visit that emblematic Church of the city. Full of history and such of beautiful gotico style.
MoreI didnt go inside but the outside is so beautiful
The Blach Church at BrasovMore to come
The Black Church is a must-see if you are going to Brasov. Its a big quiet place, filled with history and information. The church is built in a Gothic style and it reflects the architecture of the city. You can also go on a little "easter-egg" hunt in order to find the statue of the falling child.
MoreAlways a pleasure to return to the most Eastern Gothic cathedral in Europe, magnificent proof of more than seven centuries of Saxon (Sachsen to be very precisecivilization in Kronstadt~Brasov, in the South-Eastern tip of Transilvania~Siebenburgen. Beautifully restored several years ago and carefully preserved by a small but vibrant German community, proudly surviving in the heart of 2021 Romania.
MoreGreat, solemn building. Has the feeling of a museum more than that of a church. And it is. Entrance requires a fee. Still, very much worth going inside.
MoreGreat history and organ music concerts (Get tickets and info from the front gift shop)
MoreThe Black Church is okay from outside. As far as I know it has been going through renovation recently as it was surrounded by metal scaffoldings but I could see some small pieces standing to fall off the church walls. They added an entry fee to the black church to visit its interior, which seems abnormal to me.
MoreA LOT of dust, very irritating inside (from the rugs I guess). Also moldy... Its seriously a health hazard and it should be closed off. Also ugly church. Nice pipe organ but not enough to make it worth the high price of admission. Dirty windows. Sexist institution.
MoreI do not recommend, you can’t see anything inside, not too many statues, or painting or anything for that matter so i just advise to make pictures from outside with it it’s more impressive then inside. I’ve attached some pictures that’s basically the whole thing you can see.
MoreThe main attraction of the city, the Black Church was builded in the 14th century. The name is suposed to be after the fire that burned the city in 1689.The tickets are available in front of the main entrance (it is a nice store with souvenirs), the ticket is 15 RON for adults, 10 for retirees, students. The organ concerts are amazing!
MoreOutstanding architecture!! Must visit in Brasov!
Ive seen the Black Church a few times. This time I was there to listen to an organ concert. The organ was built in 1839 in the early Romantic style and they say is the largest preserved organ by Carl August Bucholz. The concert was ok; 3 students playing at their best. The acoustic is wonderful! The price is 4 EUR/20 lei. You can stay almost anywhere but you have to wear the mask. The organ concerts will take place on every Saturday, starting at 18:00 (duration is 1 hour). I recommend to be there earlier, at least with 15 minutes. If you want to go, you still have time till the end of September :-). You should go!
More15lei to enter.... Wowo! Expensive but otherwise a good building to look at from the outside if purely rating it based on aesthetics and not on religious importance
MoreA place full of history, which generates a special experience. On hot days you benefit from the cold here. Now, on Saturday evening, between 6pm and 7pm, the organ concert season opened. For information about them you can access their Web page.
MoreThis Cathedral is one of the oldest and largest in Eastern Europe. The building has an amazing vibe even from outside...
MoreBeautiful, historical place in the heart of Brașov!
Its such a beautiful place, perfect to create memories.
