Have ordered take out three times from this place. Very good burgers and the food was very good every time. Will be back!-Sat on the deck today. Got a burger and a Ceaser. Awesome burger and drink. Good job guys!

Amazing little pub. Huge patio overlooking Brannen Lake. Excellent menu, something for everyone. Delicious food and drinks. Our server Steph was amazing, super polite and always smiling. She made us feel so welcome on a very busy evening. 🥰☀️🐾🎶🎉

Fabulous patio with nice views the beef dip Caesar salad was perfect. last time I was here I had schnitzel, very week. Glad I gave it a second chance.

I went with my dad and brother. When we walked in the girl who greeted us was friendly and said hello, told us the patio was open and our server would be there shortly. We waited almost 20 minutes before our server Nicole came to our table. When she finally arrived we immediately felt like we were interrupting her day! We ordered our drinks and appy. Finally after several more minutes waiting she arrived. We asked for coasters, which are generally standard in any pub especially with glass tables. She turned to the dirty table behind us and grabbed a few dirty ines and threw them on our table... I noticed they had food and rings on them and asked if we could please have clean ones. (They are one time use and not to be reusedshe grabbed them off our table and threw them very aggressively back into the dirty table... one even bounced off onto the floor . She huffed off and slapped 3 fresh ones on the table and took off before we could place our order... so we waited several more minutes before she came back to our table to get our order. She was not friendly and her answers were short and abrupt. She mostly just backed "yup" at us to every question or order. Finally our food arrived and it was good. Fresh veggies and burgers were nicely done!!The ladies room was just gross!If I went here again I would ask for a different server and would not use the bathroom! Overall we were pretty disappointed...Oh yes my brother a beer conisour and fine dining expert found his beer to be flat and not good at all. He was also served a pale ale that was definitely not a pale ale.Haha we also found the emergency exit locked up good and tight! Not cool! However we did find it amusing. Music and view were great!There are better pubs than this in the area that are much better!

Standard pub food for the standard price. Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger was juicy and flavourful, Black Bear Burger had an amazing homemade patty. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant.

The service was great. They were very apologetic about the lack of guacamole for our plate of nachos and the delay in service, so they kindly offered the nachos for free.

Friendly people and the nachos were awesome 👌 😃😃

Enjoyed everything about this pub. The service and food was more than I expected along with the option to sit outside when the weather is good. Highly recommend this place

Ordered the Bangers and mash. Sausage was cold and wasnt sure it was cooked food was super cold.

Couldn’t remember how many times I’ve been ordering the exact same meal for delivery from Black Bear Pub. Each time the food is exceptional.I would’ve taken a picture, but they had been devoured before I could remind myself to do so each time.This kind of consistency is absolute gold and becoming a rare commodity these days.Thank you so much for the effort, I would’ve left a 5-star review each time if I great food didn’t make me too lazy!

Your steak and prawn description was amazing, the result was garbage , like you took the steak and sliced it in half thru the middle before tossing it on the fries to make them soggy while they also soak up the soggy frozen vegetables that were sitting beside the so called gravy... very disappointing Ive always had awesome dinners and had total confidence but not anymore.

I had decided to take a girlfriend who needed a night away to The Black Bear for dinner, I had ordered us salt and pepper wings as an appy (they were good but wasnt a big fan of the breading, but learnt later that they can come without breadingand 2 steak dinners (which was absolutely delicious). We were sitting at the bar, the service was unfortunately quite uptight and slow, as I had only been served one drink for the night, and my friend had only been served 2, the second drink unfortunately came halfway through dinner. Near the end of our time a server (which was not oursvery rudely spoke to my friend as though she was being a nuisance, which through off our whole night. For 100$+ dollar meal the experience was awful thank goodness the food was good. Not going there again, as experiences are better elsewhere.

CERTAINLY AN IMPROVEMENT - FOOD IS BETTER - SERVICE HAS IMPROVED - MUCH CLEANER. RECOMMEND THEIR HAMBURGERS (HOMEMADE). FISH AND CHIPS ARE GREAT - I LIKE MINE GRILLED NICE SIZED PIECES OF HADDOCK.

Updating my review summer 2020: I still like the new menu and they have expanded the draft selection since taking over the place. Beautiful patio and lake view. But Third time in since reopening in the late spring: Servers do not wear masks and do not physically distance or follow some of the other WorkSafeBC or PHO Guidelines.

We went to The Black Bear Pub for dinner and sat outside on the deck , lovely views and a very pleasant waitress. We Ordered Halibut burger with fries a good size piece of fish.Taco salad with the real taco bowl all at reasonable prices. I would recommend a visit

Went here for lunch and the food was amazing! Had probably the best mozzarella sticks Ive ever eaten, and Ive had a lot of these, and then a delicious Caesar wrap. We also had the fish and chips, where they offer haddock and salmon, two fish not found very often on fish and chip dishes and they were both unreal. We will be back soon, youve jumped high on our lists of Nanaimo restaurants black bear pub!

Eating here and now, awesome food and a great pint too. Service is a little bit wonderful. Come on down have some good food and a good time too. 😊

Was very disappointed in the black bear pub, we have not been there in over a year, so we were excited about going and what a disappointment. We when arrived we set for over 20 minutes before anyone came over to ask us what we wanted, after we ordered and received our food, the fries and mozzarella sticks were over cooked, we waited for the waitress to come back to ask for some ranch dressing and to order another drink but she never came back. When we went to pay the bill, she said sorry I just got busy with other customers, but our bill was over 50.00 and our service was terrible.

Cozy little pub, tucked away in a quiet spot a few minutes drive off of busy Metral Rd in the north end.Plenty of parking, and a nice older looking pub inside. But most people opt for the patio. Which is surrounded by a huge lawn, so you dont feel closed in like Cactus or Browns.The slightest glimpse of Brennan Lake helps too.Food is great, with a decent selection for a pub. Large plates, with med pricing. Great service.

Amazing patio view. Good servers, nice and friendly.The food was quick... but rather hit and miss. They have a HUGE menu with lots to choose from. But with that you arent getting anything homemade, and its nothing really to rave about. Dont know why, but I tried the lobster ravioli, I recommend not ordering it.The grilled chicken Hamburger was good and would order again.Same with the popcorn shrimp.We went with the intent to sit inside once after being outside in the sun all day, but they do not seem to have a/c as it was rather warm and humid inside the building, but late enough in the day the trees shade the patio so it was cool enough.

Currently serving wonderful food. Not the specialty of the house but for me the Liver and Onion meal is to die for. Good selection of draft beer . Pleasant service.

I just called to see if they were open. I got this far: "Hi there. I was just wondering if youre open and have any room" before being abruptly cut off and was told "I have a customer on the other line". I thought she hung up but I was apparently put on hold. She came back and sounded very flustered. Needless to say, I decided to go somewhere else. I get it... were in COVID times but some common decency goes a long way.

The patio was lovely and the view was nice, the server was attentive and nice, the food was just "okay" my crispy chicken burger was very over cooked and my husbands Black Bear beef dip lacked any reasonable amount of the extras that was supposed to be in it. Fries were good.

Ordered take out, was told 20 mins (for sliders, mozza sticks, and two dessertswaited an hour. Repeatedly checking with the server to see if my order was ready. When I told the server I had to go pick up my daughter, she went into the back and yelled at the cook until he passed over our food. The burgers and mozza sticks were both cold, not even warm. The desserts were still frozen. I called that night and left my name and phone number, but no one called me back. Support somewhere else that cares enough to serve you hot food.

Had a great time at the resto. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was amazing. It was very busy when we reached, but the server still accommodated us and served us in a timely manner. They have pool table and karaoke to entertain the people.

The Black Bear is okay. Its kind of a generic neighbourhood pub. Nothing particularly outstanding or particularly poor. The food is fine, the drinks are fine, the prices are fine, the service is fine.Not great, not bad. 2 stars seems too low a rating, 4 stars seems too high. So 3 stars it is.

Wow!!! Such an amazing atmosphere. Young and old alike enjoy the food and excellent specials that change daily. Love the vibe as I walked through and shared pleasantries with the locals who feel just as comfortable as I did. The owners....well lets just say their pride shines bright at The Black Bear Pub!!!

Good to see it coming back to its once famous standards.. we had a beef dip and two Oduols near beers. Price was good and service was quick. I understand their are new owners. They are to be congratulated.. sign says kitchen open until 10:00 pm. Thats good. Clean neat and tidy.. bathrooms spotless.. nice surrounding area.
