Bitola Zoo - Zoo in Bitola, Macedonia
Good place to visit and have great time with your kids.
Worth visiting. Just for 1€ entry fee. Great variety of wild animals from lions to monkeys etc.
I cant understand why no one shut it down yet..
It is not very big and the animals are in very small cages.
Nice little zoo... Im glad Ive contribute a liitle so maybe those animals will get better care, which they deserve...
Truthfully my little guys LOVED the zoo. They had a complete blast seeing the animals that were there as well as the play ground in the middle.Being accustomed to Zoos from the US it was a bit of a concern and also pretty cool how close you could get to the cages of the animals. We did have to remind our oldest (3.5 yrs oldto keep his hands out of the animals "homes".Entering the zoo was a bit difficult. We didnt know where the entrance was and somehow ended up going in through an employee entrance. The employee who found us after about 15 minutes of walking let us pay and leave our car where it was.Overall, worth the visit with little kiddos as they are just happy to see the animals. Especially as there is a variety of animals to see; bear, lion & lioness, hippopotamus, birds, tiger, kangaroos, goats, rams, sheep, goats, lamas, bunnies, chickens, ostriches, emus, horses, lemurs and more.Visiting as a foreigner, just keep expectations from other experiences with Zoos far from the forefront of your mind.
If you want to see animals kept in cruel conditions, this is where you should go. Pretty sure this place is what made Emmanuel Macron veto North-Macedonia to enter the EU.
Ok
It is very concerning how many locals are giving this place 5+, I was mortified by the conditions of this zoo. The grounds a disgusting and not one sign of a staff member apart from the depressed looking woman sitting in the kiosk at the front. The animals look malnourished the two bears, in particular, were skinny and obviously depressed, one bear was going around in circles continuously showing severe signs of stress. we saw stray dogs locked up in cages howling in distress makes you wonder why are they looked up, hate to think..
Perfect!!
Great for kids. There are not many animals.
Bitola Zoo looks a lot better than a few years ago. Definitely worth it to visit.
The old woman employed in the zoo is unkind, closed before working hours, a disaster.
Small but has plenty to be seen
Dirty,no animals inside.
The inhabitants of this cozy zoo will be happy to see you;)
Best place for family days
Nice little Zoo. Some farm animals, monkeys, bears, a lion, ect. The hippo and water buffalo were my favorite. Worth an hour ot two trip for sure.
This zoo has excellent potential for visitors. If the management takes good care of the animals, but they dont get enough visitors to collect funds, the place speaks itself. Do visit the zoo if you ever stop in Bitola and bring some food please
Good place to enjoy your time with family. Renovated with better service.
I couldnt handle more than 15 minutes there. I found it so depresing. The whole place is so neglected. The conditions where the animals live are horrifying. This is animal cruelty. If the management cant take proper care please, please shut it down!!!!!!
One of the few zoo gardens in the country. Its best to visit during the summer so you can view all species. The location is very interesting and has a unique setting for a zoo but I think the living conditions for the animals are a bit cramped. You can see monkeys, lions, bears different birds and reptiles, snakes etc.
Awful, poor animals have no choice but to leave in such a bed conditions. No wonder why they were so depressed.Honestly the Zoo was way much better and organised before 25 years ago then now ( its 21st centenary when everything is going forward everywhere and better in the world exept in this place. Such a shame😏Also its very dangerous for the visitors , there is no sign when a constraction work is on, also all metal and wire(rubbishstuff are on the walking pavement where is easy to trip over and injure yourself.
Set free or donate those animals to some one who will actualy take care of them, disgusting ZOO should be closed, same in Skopje ZOO.
Great place. Lot of wild animals.
This is very beautiful and very old zoo. It needs little better maintenance, however still it is a nice place to spend a day there.
We knew there was a zoo here and passed it on our way back from the nearby historical site. We entered through an open gate in the back. I would not recommend coming to this zoo. Everything is badly maintained, from not seeing where you should walk to the animal cages. It really broke my heart seeing these animals in these conditions. We exited through the front of the zoo so we could pay for the animals (or at least we hope)
Its the only zoo in town but less animals and worse conditions each time we visit.
I love animals.I used to love the zoo as a child. But, now I dont. Ive been here recently, and I am very disappointed. The animals were tired, most of them werent there from the last time Ive been to the zoo.The atmosphere was kinda tragic, we were the only people visiting at the time which is not too bad, but that sometimes speaks for the place itself. However, there were good things, too. For example I love the old, traditional house on the middle of the zoo. It is amazing for making pictures and resting before going in again to see the animals.I love the childrens place with all the fun activities that can be done there.I can remember that the dog shelter was there too previously, but I dont think I saw it this time.
Its good to be visited so u can contribute a little bit for the sick of animlas
Awful place, very poor living conditions for the animals, enclosures are way too small. Animals are all visibly distressed and malnourished. Absolutely heartbreaking experience.
shut this zoo down!!!!! . my heart breaks for these innocent animals living in these poor conditions they don’t deserve it and the fact that people think it’s ok to take their kids to a place like that is even worse educate yourself . :(
I left this place truly depressed. Miserable looking animals living in terrible conditions. This place should be closed immediately. Animal rescue needed ASAP.
Innocent animals stuck in the middle of nowhere... Very bad conditions... This zoo MUST be closed as soon as possible...
Please take care a little bit more for the conditions and animals, plea to municipality, invest and make it better and beautiful
The worst zoo I have ever seen. An example of animal abuse. They live in terrible conditions without access to water or food. Horses have parasites, wolf has no fur, bear has to eat grass out of his cage not to starve, monkeys even ate their own feces and drink their own urine. This place is a shame of town Bitola and should be closed immediately.
Animals living in terrible conditions with limited to no access to food and water. Animal cruelty at its finest
Animal cruelty in every way! It was really horrible place to visit. Nobody cares about the animals. They don´t have food or water. Bears wants grass because they are hungry. Monkeys piss and drink it because they don´t have water. Please close this zoo and don´t have animals.
Beautiful and interesting once but needs immediate renovation
Great animals, but cages should be bigger, cleaner...
People need to support our Zoo . Take care of our beautiful animals.
The animals are living in terrible condition
The ZOO itself is fine but the difference in animal species and the conditions they live inside are just poor. It needs a lot of work like stairways, disabled paths, tiled footways and so on. As well it needs direction signs for easier access and a better car park. Our little daughter still enjoyed the day there
Must see place to see where the poor animals live
The Bitola Zoo, is founded on 1 May 1950 with the help of the Skopjes, Zagrebs, Belgrades and Suboticas zoos. The zoo plays a significant role in the sphere of social living, especially in the sector of education as well as the protection of certain animal species. Ever since its establishment as an institution in 1950, the zoo has been constantly improving the conditions in order to meet European standards, but these standards have not yet been met. In 2004, a number of activities have started, aimed at improving the conditions in which the animals live and raising the educational character of the zoo.
The place is in very bad condition and not many animals to be seeing.
Great contact with animals, parts old, parts renovated, "typical Balkan style", overall interesting for foreigners (thats the right word), although despite visible improvements, need to do more for animal welfare!!! (Feeding them as people write here might not be a great idea either although tthey might partly depend on it, dunno). Might look cruel to sensitive folks but understandable given local level of development. Visiting might support the animals in the end and the ZOO tries hard I believe
Worst thing ever nothing in there to recommend. The staff was really mean and the animal very sad.
Terrible experience, extremely small, the animals are in kept very poor conditions.
Small but very nice zoo. Its all more natural and uncommercialized so great place for family afternoon. The only thing missing is restaurant inside zoo and at least commercials in city to get more visitors. Btw, we actually fed bear from 1m distance!! First he has shown us cracker and when we picked it up, he calmly opened mouth to let us know where to put that small piece :Really unique experience that cannot happen in bigger zoos. Keep it that way.
