Bistro on the Quay in Ipswich
Description
Privilege
I recently had the chance to have an evening meal with my colleagues at this restaurant. We pre booked our meal choices and we were happy that the staff had our meal choices printout ready. These are small things but they add up to the food quality and service. The starter was a cheese based one(forgot the name, it sounded more French than Englishand I felt almost full after this. When the main dish came, I couldnt complete it fully even though it was really good. We then finished off the meal with a dessert. Overall a great evening and great food.
MoreWe popped in for brunch and had the chilli scrambled eggs on parmesan toast. Absolutely delicious. Great service.
MoreThe service was excruciatingly slow and the food was sub par as well as positions being small. However what I got did task good other than the raw duck egg. I got the Parmesan Gnocci (overpricedHowever despite the slow service the staff seemed very nice which I must commend. And no it wasn’t particularly busy either.
MoreMy favourite place to eat.or it used to be until they started requiring bank card details in order to secure a reservation..I have never been asked to do this in any other restaurant and I eat out regularly.so am afraid I wont be eating here again and will not recommend to anyone else on this basis alone..extremely dissapointed
MoreWent on a Monday night for a birthday celebration. It was very full and busy. Having said that, service was very slow. It took close on 90 minutes from when we arrived to get our main courses. We had ordered nibbles but not starters. The food was nice but not amazing.
MoreWhat a great place, if your in Ipswich its a must. The food is fantastic. Location is great. Service was on point.
MoreHad a bottle Chilean Chardonnay £18 best we’ve tasted in a while. Food great in the evening too. I had the raclette mmm my husband had the burger and said it was the best. Staff very helpful too Definitely recommend ☺️
MoreLovely food, friendly staff and will book again.
The one thing you must do with fish, is over cook it. Both hake and halibut were overcooked. Most of the wifes fixed menu appeared overcooked, or microwaved. Mussel broth was just cream, no butter and onions were almost raw. Rare steak was medium. Beef dripping chips forgotten.Fair enough they didn’t charge us for mussels and chips, but I’d rather just have a good dinner. Staff nice. But won’t be going again.
MoreDining is not always always about the food or the price or the ambience or even the experience. But when it all cones together like here at the Bistro on the Quay you are on to a winner. Outstanding.
MoreI dont generally like this kind of food, not to sound so picky. But then again, it was the first time I ever went to a place of this calibre and ate it. The food was amazing. Within the first bite, I changed my mind from my beggining sentence. Amazing job, great staff and great wine list too.
MoreFantastic food and lovely surroundings and atmosphere. Would have rated it 5 stars if we hadnt been told off for ordering the burger and told to order real food next time
MoreAbsolutely very good food and service attitude, the little Asian girl who served us always had a smile, I like the cute little freckles on her face, she is so cute... 🥰🥰
MoreWe ended up here when the sister place, The Mariners, lost power. We were a party of 6 and were seated comfortably. The food was excellent and the cheese to die for. Definitely worth a visit.
MoreThis is an amazing restaurant, you wouldnt think it was in Ipswich, feels like it should be in London or a major city. The food is excellent, and all made from quality ingredients. Some people may say its in the pricier side, but I really dont mind the cost for this level of excellence.
MoreGreat location, wonderful staff, good wine list and lovely food.
This has always been a great favourite of my husband and I. In need of a bit of a treat we were excited to return after quite a long absence. We love the ambience of The Bistro and this lived up to expectation. The staff were as friendly as ever but we were so disappointed with the menu. Not much choice and nothing much we considered “special” or unusual. So, fish and chips and burger and chips it was. Will have to find somewhere else to serve our needs food/wise.
MoreWhat a find, wonderful service, great wine and excellent food....... I would highly recommend to all.
MoreHad a fantastic night here. Staff were all lovely. Food was amazing. Will definitely be back
MoreWe had a very pleasant & happy Mums day. Only criticism was not much lef space for some guests. We were a squashed & no to m to manoeuvre. Good food & service though
MoreMyself and my fiancé enjoyed a celebratory anniversary meal here last night. The restaurant was welcoming and cosy with industrial style decor and quirky artwork for sale on the walls. The staff could not do enough for us as they waited on our every need. We were not left waiting for anything, receiving our drinks very quickly and having our orders taken promptly. The strawberry daiquiri I enjoyed was lovely and refreshing. We both ordered the beef burger which came with beef dripping chips and raclette cheese melted onto the burger at the table which was really impressive. I had my burger well done which I think may have affected the quality due to the meat being slightly dryer after being cooked longer, so would suggest to have the burger pink in future as my partner did and he said it was “delicious”. The highlight for me was the stunning dessert. I ordered the chocolate s’more which was one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted. Cinnamon sable biscuits which were light and buttery, homemade toasted marshmallow which was sweet and fluffy, rich chocolate ganache and a cherry gel which added an extra level to the dessert. The staff couldn’t have done more to tend to us and I felt everything was very reasonably priced as well. We very much enjoyed our meal here and will definitely be recommending it to friends and family, and returning for future special occasions. Thanks very much for a lovely evening :)
MoreWe returned this weekend for a Sunday meal. I had the roast beef and partner went for Halibut. It was poor. It was very poor. The front of house managed to avoid eye contact. The meal took an age to arrive, but then the food when it came was really disappointing. Its a shame as we have really enjoyed previous visits. We will not be returning anytime soon.
MoreNot the best! Small portion undercooked vegetable yes singular! Wife’s meal was look warm, kept waiting ages also. Would not go again unless desperate!☹️
MoreLovely food and service very friendly staff ☺️
Outstanding selection of food, they cater for all tastes. Good portion sizes and a great selection of drinks.Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
MoreOur family enjoyed a great meal here. Excellent service, great location and the food was fantastic. Explains why it was doing a brisk trade even on a Monday night. Definitely recommend.
MoreService was excellent, the waitresses were very attentive and smiled every time they walked past. The food was really nice. We had the five course valentines menu which was very filling and was presented well. They even gave us a 🌹.
MoreThe food was fantastic. I had the Venison Duo which was quality from start to finish. The upstairs wine bar is pretty special as well. All round great experience.
MoreFantastic food and the service was brilliant from Vlad, he instantly made you feel welcome, allowing us to pick our table and having a joke with us. The food was so good, there was nothing I could possibly give constructive feedback on. Cant wait to go back.
MoreVery friendly staff, good atmosphere and humongous dessert portion ideal for share 😂 recommend the chips raclette with complementary cheese topping up. Loved the braised beef 👌
MoreFriendly staff and lovely place. We had very delicious starter with unlimited cheese- highly recommend. As well as pork belly and sirloin steak. Amazing desserts and warm expirience Worth coming back.
MoreFabulous meal, lovely staff, and service exceptional.Though we were a large group, all the meals came together, food was fabulous.Have always had great service here, and would highly recommend it.
MoreFirst visit to this place last Saturday and it certainly won’t be the last. It was actually my first visit to a restaurant since the start of COVID and I was a bit nervous but I’m glad we choose this place for our first restaurant visit. I was most impressed- with the quality of food and the service. Great atmosphere and all staff wore masks which was good and we appreciated that. The place was spotless and the staff succeeded in creating a really fantastic atmosphere.
MoreAmazing restaurant amazing service. I ordered a steak it was cooked perfect but I ordered it rarer than I like. And they happily took it back and replaced the whole meal!! And added extras. And then gave me a cognac for discounted price to extent their curtesy. Absolutely blown away brilliant! Will be back DO NOT HESITATE TO BOOK A TABLE. 10/10
MorePlace with character. Some sitting areas outside and inside. Lots of paintings, which are for sale too. If you are lucky you can get a table with a view to the waterfront and all boats. We have been served pretty quickly, food have been presented really nicely. Not the cheapest place to go but worth to try and give a go. Very filling. Surely do not need any starters or deserts. Although they had lovely menu for deserts.
MoreAmazing service, good vegetarian options and great food. We came across the Bistro on the Quay while on holdiay - wed not had a great day thus far, but the experience changed that. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the food was great. Cant recommend enough. Great setting too.
MoreCelebrating our 36th wedding anniversary. Superb Sunday roast. Everything beautifully cooked. Pudding was delicious too. Sorry for the ‘tucked in’ photos. Excellent staff. Friendly and very accommodating. Definitely recommend ❤️
MoreIt is a beautiful, lovely bistro at the Ipswich Marina. Huge selection of divine food and wine. This is definitely a place to be if you like fine dining. When you are in Ipswich you must visit .
MoreAbsolutely lovely place to stop off for a relaxing lunch.. This was our third visit...Staff are always so helpful and friendly. Food was yummy. House wine actually was really good.Great select menu...yummy. They have set courses or you can choose from the a la carte...We just ordered two glasses of wine, hummus rye bread side and two mains... Excellent ✨Toilets clean and well maintained.Covid procedures excellent... staff still wearing masks, thank you 🙏Cant fault.Highly recommended. Thanks guys 🌻
MoreAbsolutely amazing food, staff and wine selection. Definitely our favourite restaurant.
MoreGreat staff and menu options (set menu looked highly tempting). Started with porchetta which came with great bon bons and followed by date and nut crumble which had a bit too much ginger for my tastes but very enjoyable overall.
MoreThe staff were very positive and engaging throughout. Atmosphere was relaxing. Most importantly the food was of a high standard and at an excellent price point.
MoreVisited on 2nd January 2020. The restaurant had just been taken over by the same people that run Mariners 1900 just opposite.Managed to get a table for two even though we hadnt booked. The food was excellent, as good as Mariners. The set menu was £20.95 for two courses or £22.95 for three. For starters we both had the smoked haddock rarebit with a poached egg on sour dough toast, very good. For mains, I decided on Confit Pork Belly (see photowhilst my wife opted for Sea Bass with a seafood couscous. Both dishes were faultless. A great evening with excellent food.
MoreBest place on the docks to eat! Food was amazing and great views! Ordered the duck which was absolutely sublime and cooked beautifully! Never had a bad meal here. Good work guys!
MoreLovely lunch as always. Exceptional value especially the set menus.4 stars not 5 as the place could do with a coat of paint. But our food has always been without fault.
MoreCelebrated birthday here. Excellent value on their Tuesday menu and food was delicious
MoreGreat restaurant. Good atmosphere. Great food. Great service. Hope to go back again.
MoreThe flat mushroom and halloumi burger, salad, and fries was delicious, especially the mushroom and halloumi. Price was very reasonable, atmosphere was pleasant, and staff were polite and efficient. Highly recommended.
MoreI always enjoy my visits to the Bistro. Great setting on the waterfront overlooking the boats. The set price menu is super value for money. The food was lovely, my cod was very tasty. Nice atmosphere.
MoreFrom the outside this place looked clean and tidy although maybe a little uninviting (We wasnt sure it was even open). Once inside we where very swiftly greeted and sat down by a lovely lady with impeccable service. The atmosphere and interior decoration gives the Bistro a very English tea shop feel, huge floor to celine windows allow you to overlook the marina whilst dining. There was a fantastic seasonal choice on offer and I highly recommend the vegetarian Mediterranean Vegetable Tart. The service was very quick and staff very eager to please. It did get busy very quickly but that was due to it being Sunday on our visit and the Bistros limited opening hours.Overall a lovely place to eat and we would definitely go there again.
