Warm, brick-walled eatery with art-filled walls offering classic French fare & wine.
Lovely venue with friendly staff. Food is mediocre but decent for the area. Would definitely recommend for the atmosphere but would temper culinary expectations.
Had a really great meal at Bistro Aix, this weekend. All three courses were delicious, as was the wine (and a great wine menu too), and the service was very good. The restaurant was busy and felt pleasant. Would recommend and will return.
Delicious food and wonderful service. Nothing was too much trouble and my dairy allergy was easily catered for with no fuss. All five of us ordered something different and we all loved what we had. Highly recommended
A great find in Crouch End. Every course was excellent!
My experience at Bistro Aix was absolutely incredible. From the delicious food to the excellent service, my friends and I could not be happier. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly welcomed and brought to our table. The waiters were very professional and kind. Everything was perfect! I will definitely be returning. Thank you to the Bistro Aix staff ! :)
Nice French restaurant, Elodie is always accommodating. The food is good and good selection of wine .
Excellent food but the evening was spoiled because instead of bringing the Carafe of White Vermentino that we ordered a very expensive £60 bottle was brought to us. The waiter insisted that this was what we had ordered even though the wine was not even white but orange. This bottle was eventually replaced by another £40 bottle of white Vermentino which we accepted. When the bill arrived we had been charged for both bottles with a discount on the first that we had sent back. After much wrangling and telephone conversation between the waiter and the manager we declined to pay for any part of the orange wine or the service chargeI spoke with the manager the next day who didnt accept any responsibility for what had happened basically saying that the waiters version of events differed and that she wasnt there so could not comment. She eventually conceded that the waiters one fault was that he could be slightly inattentive and she admitted that the orange Vermentino should not have been listed under white wine. She also admitted that she had not authorised the charge made on the returned bottle. After asking me to repeat my version of events four times and saying she couldnt understand it she finally said that she was sorry we hadnt enjoyed the evening. We wont be returning and I would recommend anyone going there to check both the wine brought to them and their bill carefully
I have been here half a dozen times and very much enjoyed the atmosphere, the very friendly staff and the food.
All six of us needed to season our food as lacking...three who had meat..was over cooked with an overpowering sauce...airless no window to open. Space is lovely but for the price go to Les Associate or LES 2 GARÇONS.
Lovely French food! Great service
My favourite French restaurant in London. We go back often for special occasions and are never disappointed.
Excellent French food, combined with friendly service. Highly recommended.I am French born and its a real pleasure to get to Bistro Aix : the food is excellent. I would strongly recommend the "Tuile de Crabe" as a starter and I had the roast lamb as the main. They renew their menu regularly and must have an excellent chef. The "cerise sur le gâteau" is that the waiting staff is French, making the experience more authentic!..
Excellent meal and very good service. Been coming here for years and always good.
Enjoyed a lovely family Sunday lunch here. The food was very good, lots of choice, for starters and mains. Very traditional bistro style food, lots of good rich flavours and well cooked. Some French classics available ie snails.Would definitely go again.
We had a wonderful meal at Bistro Aix last night - 12/5/22. A quiet ambience - no glaring lighting or muzak. The food was divine - I had yummy fish soup, followed by melt in the mouth duck, beans and gratin dauphinois (heavenly!!), finishing with a Tarte tatin with salted caramel ice cream. Worth every single penny. You will need to book. Enjoy:-Thank you Bistro Aix for a great evening.
Generally good, but not well enough executed for the complexity (or lack thereofof the dishes. My wife had the Rib Eye with Pomme Frites, where the Frites were drastically overdone (e.g. burnt). Likewise, in terms of seasoning essentially everything was under seasoned (except the frites).I had the Barbery Duck, Green Beans, and Potatoes Au Gratin. The green beans were drastically underseasoned, while the Potatoes were slightly undercooked.I had one of their by the italian glass wines which was lackluster both in terms of complexity and boldness. For desert we had the baked Alaska and the Pavlova. The pineapple culie of the pavolva was excellent, however it was again overcooked. The Baked Alaska was excellent except for the overabundance of cognac (I love it, but it was excessive for the dish). As for the service, it was sufficient. The waitress was adequate and timely, though it felt there was an undercurrent of rudeness. The waitress at no point came to check how our meal was going, which was disappointing. In fairness, it was 1 waitress for 6 tables.Overall I would give the restaurant a 3.9/5, because the meal came to ~£100 and it felt the execution did not meet the price.
Delightful highsteet restaurant with good service, quality and prices. Reccomend
Absolutely delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. The best restaurant in Crouch End. Order the tarte tatin, flambéed table-side!
Probably the most satisfying meal Ive ever eaten anywhere, and I enjoy eating out. The quality was top-notch, as was the service!Im probably classed as a slightly picky eater now, only a few things I cant stand, and willing to try things I swore I would never eat previously (hence the snail and the rabbit). A very nice main, nothing to compare it to, but it didnt feel or taste overdone and the potatoes, mushrooms and mustard sauce were a very nice accompaniment. Especially the potatoes. The duck was a bit tough on the outside, but the inside looked good (I only tried a bit of the outside as it wasnt mineand the chips were nice.I didnt get the waiters name so Ill ask, if hes there, when I go back. The menu made everything sound good, which is rare. I dont eat meat when out unless the welfare standards and quality are assured, which they are here, so I have free reign! I want to try everything at least once, but the baked Alaska made me gush to everyone I speak to about it and want to drag them right there specifically for it, although I also want all of the other food... Choices, choices.
Amazing place! We went yesterday for the first time there with my husband.(to celebrate my Birthday). I loved the interior, the music, the atmosphere and the most important food, from the starter till the dessert - everything was so delicious! I would definitely come back again!
Fab food. We’ve been a few times as we are local and the food is superb! Everyone is super nice as well. Probably the best restaurant in Crouch End!
Excellent French food and wine in an atmospheric restaurant. The service is precise, efficient and friendly. Fantastic value. The tart tatin is a real treat. One of my favourite London restaurants, without a doubt.
The restaurant used to be a culinary Colossus of the area. Back in the day it served beef Rossini and ossobuco. These are sadly no longer on the menu. Instead I had the fish soup (a bit underwhelming and could be warmerand a fish (good). Would still return .... The decor needs a bit of an update after all these years...
An excellent evening at Bistro Aix with family/chum. The food is perfectly executed - my onion soup was the best I’ve ever had. Service and room warm and friendly. A good wine list too.Overall an outstanding neighbourhood restaurant and I’m glad it’s still there; we hadn’t visited for some years but won’t leave it so long this time around.
Used to be our favourite place in CE with an impressive menu, delicious food and a comfortably smart atmosphere.Since restrictions have eased it hasn’t been the same. We’ve been back twice and both times our steak has been overdone (despite asking for it to ‘still be walking off the plate!’and the portions have been less generous or tasty- snails are now served in a shallow dish without bread rather than the previous used dishes with deep holes, so allowing for the garlic butter to pool. We’ve sat in the back room with the wonderful aroma from the loos and the service has been decidedly French, with huffs and puffs, lacking the previous quick wit and charm. We really hope it returns to its former glory, which includes the Roquefort creme brûlée as otherwise it is not worth the visit.
Great service and even greater food. Definitely worth a visit and would highly recommend for a nice family meal or night out with your partner.
Just beautiful. I’m so happy there is a french restaurant as good as this in crouch end. All the others in the area don’t come close. Amazing food, great wine, nice and cosy. I’ve been 3 times, can’t wait to visit again.
An excellent French experience in the heart of Crouch End.
We ordered a take away as a special celebration, we collected, they don’t deliver. The food was just as good as it is in the restaurant in normal times only perhaps more generous portions. It was also all in eco friendly recyclable containers so none of the guilt from ordering out. Can’t wait for them to be open again but this was perfect in the circumstances.
Excellent for a lockdown special occasion! Lovely food and easy to plate up.
Fantastic food, wonderful ambience. The staff are warm and polite and the wines are very carefully chosen from organic producers. Best French restaurant I’ve been to in ages.
Ambience is wonderful. Food is nice BUT why are we so anti-children in restaurants like these? No kids portions meant we paid for a meal that would/could only be half eaten, if even that. So wasteful and does not make sense.
We called in by chance and asked if they could accommodate plant based vegan options as there was nothing showing as a main course on the menu. As a French restaurant, this is not unexpected. What was unexpected was the resulting meal that arrived when we left it to chef to make up a suitable dish. I have found this usually to be the sign of an excellent chef. We will be back.
Excellent French classics, such as foie gras or tarte Tatin, but with an innovative twist. Warm staff and delicious food
Lovely place with very friendly and helpful staff. Food was good if not quite excellent. The foie gras starter was very good, the pork belly was good, and my partners lamb tender and tasty. Good wine choice.
The menu was so good here that I struggled to narrow down my choices! Im half French and I was so impressed with the quality and range of the French dishes. I cant wait to come back and sample some more. The staff were lovely, too.
Booked a table for 2 for the Christmas menu, £70PP without drinks. When we arrived were taken straight through, the waiter pointed us to a table but did not properly seat us or ask to take my partners coat, I made a point of asking for the cloakroom and was told where it was although there was no further offer of assistance. Once wed sat down, the table next to us arrive who were seated promptly with an offer to take jackets and immediately offered water. Took us another few minutes until another member of staff came and we ordered water for the table and a fantastic bottle of Merlot on the advice of the staff member. Was a fantastic recommendation. For food, I ordered the duck salad followed by the traditional beef Christmas dinner.Duck salad arrived, very well presented on the plate and tasted phenomenal, as I was eating it quite a large, sharp bone stuck the roof of my mouth. Asked the waiter who didnt seat us if this was normal for a duck salad to which he assured me it was. Its not uncommon apparently for duck which has been shredded specifically to get rid of bones, to contain them.Main course arrived, everything cooked perfectly and tasted beautiful, a good serving of beef which was unexpected. What a fantastic dish, absolutely amazing. For dessert I ordered a small pastry which came with ice cream. The pastry was suspiciously heavy and the ice cream reminded me of iceland bought ice cream. Sickly sweet and with an overwhelming taste of vanilla extract, no sign of real vanilla anywhere. Did not finish this dish, restaurant owner assures me this is made in house.Overall cost was 200+ including the one bottle of wine, will not be going back as the service really didnt match the food which is highly unfortunate. Being lied to by a waiter and no offer to replace the very suspect uneaten dessert upset me to the point of not hanging around. Will not forget that main course however, amazing.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. French style restaurant with brilliant French food, I would recommend their meat options over their vegetarian as these tend to be nicer, though. Wine selection vast and good, but you neednt go further than their house wines. Baked Alaska dessert is a great spectacle, its brought out on fire!
Enjoyed a really lovely Sunday lunch at Bistro Aix a few weeks ago. The lamb, beef and dessert were all beautifully cooked and presented, pleasant decor and the service was very attentive. Enjoyed the espresso martinis too. Only a shame that it wasnt full, as its a gem. Will definitely be back now I know they do lunch as well as dinner.
Love Bistro Aix, been a few times now and it’s always perfect for late night romantic candlelit dinners. Food is superb, love the meaty dishes, always cooked beautifully. Wine selection is great and the desserts are very nice indeed. Casual Gallic service but it adds to the charm of the place, it’s all about the great food and atmosphere.
Very quaint French bistro. All three dishes I had were full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I would recommend the baked Alaska for a show stopping dessert and the foie gras on brioche for the ultimate indulging starter!
Wanting to stay local, on the basis of a decent meal experience a couple of years ago, we chose Aix to entertain important guests. What a disappointing experience. Our table was in the back room which was accessed via a musty-smelling passage. There we were left to languish with the menus for over 15 minutes, at which time we were forced to demand service. This unenthusiastic level of service marginally improved throughout the evening but not the indifference. Unfortunately the quality of the food matched the service - there in name but not in quality. The menu is tired and, sadly, the food itself was too. Nothing about my fish soup and duck suggested beyond that it had been prepared many hours ago and re-warmed. The soup was gloopy and my duck was tough. My wife felt similarly of her choices. The accompaniments were of the sort and unpleasantness that one gets at a mass-catered event. At no time did anybody enquire as to our well-being or satisfaction. To potential dining guests Id advise reading up-to-date reviews before considering Aix as a destination. My advice to Aix is that they need to take a good hard look at themselves or they will be reading many more reviews like this.
I enjoyed a special birthday dinner at Bistro Aix with my friends and family. We used the beautiful private dining room at the back of the restaurant. The venue was perfect, the food was delicious and the attention to detail couldnt have been better. Thank you to all the staff for making my birthday celebration so special.
We had the pleasure of having Christmas lunch at bistro Aix this year. Service was impeccable and the food was great. We were 16 and nothing was too much trouble to the three waiting staff that served us on the day. All our guests enjoyed both the environment and food. We have been to bistro Aix several times and the quality of both food and service is consistent. Thank you for a lovely Christmas lunch.
We live in Crouch End and have been here a number of times over the years and it never fails! Our most recent visit was for a Christmas Eve dinner. We picked Bistro Aix for its opulent atmosphere and no nonsense French bistro fare, a choice that was rewarded in spades. We started with Poisson Soup and duck croquettes. The soup was rich with prawns and a satisfying spiced warmth. Served with crispy toasts, aioli and Comte cheese, it did not disappoint! The duck croquettes were a much lighter option and very tasty. The only slight complaint being there was too much of the red cabbage for the volume of croquettes.Main course was a Guinea fowl breast for me, beef cheek daube for Melissa and a side of green beans. The guinea fowl was delicious, lovely and moist with a great, rich, deep sauce. The beef was tender and melt in the mouth as you would expect!!All round top notch dinner and exactly what you want from a French bistro!!Team Bistro Aix, thanks for a great dinner!
Organised my wedding dinner there last April. Staff was amazing ! they did everything to make us feel comfortable ! the food was delicious, guests loved it. We had a menu where everyone could pick what they wanted which is convenient as some people were vegetarians. They were very accommodating ! The quality of the food is exquisite and I would go there again for any type of occasion !!!! :Thank you Bistro Aix, on this very day you were the best !
Pretty good and not bad food. Starter was excellent salary well presented. Turkey main was fairly average. Somehow came out thinking it was quiet expensive for what we had, only one drinking wine and £90. Overall good and not a bad meal but may be a little expensive for the food served.
Best French restaurant in the area. Duck à lorange highly recommended. The large salads are good as well. And the tarte tatin dessert is flambeed at the table with calvados. Prices are good for the quality of food. Many of the wines come in carafes. Romantic, classy atmosphere with the perfect amount of Parisian edge.
Fantastic atmosphere, quality well-cooked food with great service to match. Great for a special occasion or a treat. The Baked Alaska is amazing! A wonderful wine list, as youd expect from a French bistro.
Lovely ambiance, guided to my table, placed my order after having looked at the menu. My beautiful tasting steak arrived a bit too soon as I hadnt finished enjoying the hot bread and oil. Dessert was gorgeous - Christmas in my mouth!! Prunes soaked in armagnac with vanilla ice cream.A bit pricey but I had a lovely meal, on my own.Id recommend it to couples, groups and lone travellers. Well done😁
