Trendy bistro serving innovative French dishes in a room with mirrors, antiques & an open kitchen.
What a pleasant surprise we went to BistroX for the first time last week and it was divine, amazing tuna tartare and something I never had in Jacksonville ""Dover Sole"" which it was absolutely Fantastic."
We went to bistro Aix to celebrate my mom birthday and we had a great experience. I forgotten how good this place is. Will recommend for sure. Will go back soon.
I have eaten here many times, service and food keep me coming back. I first met Jesse at the bar, Jesse has become the biggest part of our experience at Bistro AIX. The upbeat, welcome, attitude he provides to my Friday after work drinks and dinner are an occasion that I look forward to weekly.
The short rib is the truth. Jesse behind the bar was enthusiastic and one of the best bar tenders I’ve had in Jax.
The menu has great choices and they accommodated my father with dairy restrictions, very impressed.
The place is chick and has a warm ambiance, the food we tasted was up to par, we highly recommend it.
I walked in at 9:29. Google business listing says it closes at 10:00. They refused to serve me and said they close the kitchen at 9:00, a full hour before closing. If that’s the case, why not post it so people don’t waste their time driving over. Employee was quite smug also. Walked next door to The Pink Salt and they were welcoming and the food was delicious. Go there instead.PS they only respond to their positive reviews, which is a business mistake and also shows that they are paid fake reviews.
When ever we eat at BistroX we are never disappointed. Thumbs up.Recommended.
Escargot and Paulette Parisienne (picturedwere absolutely bangin. The dairy-wary need be aware that these dishes lean heavy on butter and cream and theyre absolutely fire for it.Selected Aqua Panna for the table because its the best water and this is a hill Im willing to die on.The ambiance, service, and gastronomie are excellent.
Thursday night we went to BistroX for some drinks and we ended up staying for dinner also , and we had an amazing meal and the waiter was great “Robert”.
I work for a pharmaceutical company and we do many client events at Bistro X because they are professional and the service and food is in my opinion the best in Jacksonville. I highly recommend it.
The restaurant has dropped significantly. Aix was a staple of my childhood. I remember the pastry kitchen and fresh oven pizzas. The escargot 🐌 was fantastic; however, the Niçoise salad 🥗 came without any Nicoise olives! When we requested the Nicoise olives the server returned with pitted Kalamata olives and insisted that the Niçoise salad only “features hard boiled eggs and green beans after the Niçoise state in France.” The dishonesty went ahead and dropped an additional star. Overall: lackluster.
Overall great experience.. Brussel sprouts needed bit more cooking otherwise good food. Wouldnt make anything spicy so that was disappointing as well.
I was very astonished, by the service from the waiter’s to the GM . Everyone was on point.First of all the place was packed.I came into the restaurant by myself and was able to observe the efficiency in which the waiters even the GM to the owner were in fast speed mode and yet being attentive to the customers making sure everyone and everything was running as smooth as possible..The atmosphere was great and the music in the next room could only be heard when the door was opened.I’m glad to say I would continue sending my friends and family to a place with fine dining and great customer service!
Came back to bistro and had the best experience with Joshua tonight. The shrimp pasta was delicious and the service was even better.
Best Happy Hour in town, purple Elephant drink is really good. Happy Hour Calamari was great.
The change of ownership is so evident. I don’t mind paying for good food; however, our family’s bill was almost $300.00, way overpriced for the quality of the food we were served. We were very disappointed in our experience…sad because this restaurant used to be delicious.
Odd looking building from the outside but the steak frites are amazing. The steak melted in my mouth. My sister really liked the chicken with sausage and mushroom and we had a steak tartare special with some kind of mousse and truffle that was really good. We will be coming back!
The food is fresh and flavorful. Classic French dishes that deliver. Great atmosphere and service!
Ive been dining here for over a decade now and its always excellent food with phenomenal service. The ambiance is very upscale and yet quite charmingly quaint. Everything has gotten even better than the last experience before especially the perfect companion again. Love 😍
Former employee. Long wait times and crooked ownership but the worst thing is the BUGS and their unsafe pest control practices. We were told to use pesticides indoors that were clearly labeled unsafe for indoor use. There are sketchy bug catchers IN the kitchen! The owner requests a lot of these reviews to get removed. I’m sure he’ll remove this one but you should go somewhere else.
My brother, husband and I enjoyed a nice private dinner while we were in town for the weekend. My brother tried to order 3 different bottles of wine and they were all out of. Then the waiter brought my brother a complimentary glass to try.. which he loved and ordered a bottle for the table. We ordered a charcuterie board & crab cakes for the appetizers - delicious! My spouse & I both had filet mignon & my brother ordered lamb. We were all exceptionally satisfied with our meals. Although we were there past closing having wine, laughing and great conversation, the staff never forced us to leave or tried to make us feel like we were burdening them. Great atmosphere with mouth-watering food! Not sure why they werent more busy on a Friday night!
WOW this place is amazing. The food is extremely good. The place is wonderful with high seats and booths. The staff is so competent and accommodating. The kitchen is open so you can see whats going on the whole time; its fun to watch! They have amazing cocktails. Such a great place.
Live local. Had not been since new ownership. Called for Mothers day, learned they are not normally open on Sundays, but were for Mothers day with a limited menu.Arrived, not crowded, were seated at a front and center table to kitchen, should have asked for a more secluded, quieter spot.Bread was not offered. Wine selection not appealing.Too limited of a menu in our view.Choose: Calamari & Shrimp app, was very good.Dish 1- Brazen short ribs, very good.Dish 2 - pasta and mushroom sauce. Good, but nothing special.Dish 3 - Duck in white cream sauce and spaghetti. Duck tasted off, weird taste, not sure what it was but Dish as a whole did not taste good.Dish 4 - Chicken dish called Parisienne - sauce was described as garlic, olive oil, white wine, with rosemary....came out orange, red in color, with Indian spices.?. Was okay, but not as expected.Desserts -A tarimasu dish was so-so, and small. They comped this dessert for Chicken dish not being as expected. Also had the ricotta berry cheesecake was very good. All in all, slightly disappointing. We do want to give them another chance on regular day, with regular menu.
As always, an excellent meal. Sat outside on the garden patio. For some reason, our server forgot our bread and the silverware was dirty, so I will hold on the five star rating. The food was amazing. Way more than we could finish so leftovers for the next day. My wife had the Cioppino with grilled bread. She said it was excellent. Lots of seafood. I went with the Short Ribs which was served on a large bed of mashed potatoes and topped with carrots, baby onion and cherry tomatoes. The meat was so tender no knife was needed and they had already removed the bone. That bread would have been great with this dish!
While visiting Jacksonville, we decided to go to Bistro Aix for a birthday celebration. The menu looked very good and it had high ratings based on a fairly large number of reviews.Parking was not a problem. We were having a late lunch and there was parking on the street near the restaurant. As we had hoped, the late time for lunch (l:45meant the restaurant was not very crowded. The restaurant was still open and we were quickly greeted and sat in a comfortable booth. The dinner menu is more extensive than the luncheon menu. That is not unusual but, as luck would have it, not everything on the luncheon menu was available either. The crab cakes ordered as an appetizer were small but there were three of them and they were very good. The sweet potato soup was the soup of the day. Two of us ordered that and it was outstanding—smooth, creamy and with a delightful flavor. The short ribs were on the menu and sounded excellent and the server recommended the dish. Unfortunately, that dish was not available. I opted for the steak frites. It was accompanied by haricot vert (green beans and french fries). The steak was cooked medium rare, as ordered, and was tender and flavorful. The beans were still crunchy, not boiled to ruin the natural flavor and textureand the fries were a little too salty but tasted very good and cooked perfectly. My two dining companions ordered the snapper fish special which was accompanied by asparagus and brussel sprouts. The first order of fish was very salty and the person who ordered it does not care for food that is heavily salted. Our server, Marina, was very accomodating and ordered another snapper dish as a replacement. It was not salted and cooked perfectly. The other diner was not as sensitive to salty food and enjoyed the snapper and the side dishes very much. For dessert I selected a berry almondine with vanilla ice cream that was to be served warm. As it turned out, that dish was no longer available as it had sold out. I opted for the tuxedo chocolate cake which was outstanding and had a beautiful presentation. (See the accompanying photo.)It was delicious and, as the name implies, had a strong chocolate flavor with whipped cream and strawberries on the side. All three of us enjoyed the cake and it was quickly consumed. Moreover, as I had noted on the reservation that this was a birthday celebration, there was no charge for the birthday cake dessert. There is an extensive wine list by the bottle. As is usually the case, the "by the glass" list of options is considerably more restricted. There is still a good variety of wine available by the glass. I deferred a bottle as driving through Jacksonville traffic can be a challenge and settled for one excellent glass of cabernet to accompany the steak frites. Our server was very good and made sure everything was taken care of. Marina was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and her attention to detail made the occasion more enjoyable.Bistro Aix was an enjoyable experience and worth a visit. I would prefer the more elaborate menu for the evening meal but the items we selected were delicious. The biggest disappointment, which was quickly remedied, was the heavily salted fish entree which is somewhat unusual for a high end restaurant. All of the selections were well prepared, flavorful, and contributed to a happy birthday family celebration.
Not what it used to be. No raw bar, No decent whiskey and service was horrible. When our entrees came out 45 mins after ordering, the food was cold but the plates were steaming hot. This used to be a go to place for me before they were bought out by another company. Simply will not be returning. Also, this took me a few weeks to write this review but our experience here compared to the other restaurants in the area made me think there is no reason why we had such a bad experience here. It’s just not acceptable for the amount of money you spend here.
The food has somehow taken a decline on taste . I ordered French onion soup and in soup and it was the worst Ive ever had ,lacking taste and any type of substance. The mussels were a pure embarrassment, like rubber, the bread was charred burnt I was warned the bowl was extremely hot...however the meal itself was not even lukewarm.
For starters, our visit Saturday was my sisters birthday dinner for 20-21 of us; meaning a $1500-1600 ticket. The service was bad, although one server was new & the other as pleasant as possible, thank you. The appetizers took long and were shared. How does a table of 11 share 6 crabcakes,a plate of squid? Salad was fair. Drinks okay, but I guess to prepare you for the dissatisfied portion of food to come. Very disappointing. Nice atmosphere, but Very over-rated for the price. Have had better for that amount & cheaper. For future reference, Please dont get your customers stomach disregarded because of your building rent;times arent that bad in America yet. Maybe a couple date, but Never a big party again. I was really embarrassed & let down for others expectations. We drove from Brunswick Ga.,a town known for 4 & 5 star restaurants. And its sad to see that the manager mostly responded to the compliment reviews
They were rude, slow and the food was a disappointment. The food was barely warm, small portion sizes, and the crab cakes werent fresh. Just wouldnt come back. We had reservations, and was told we didnt and then we waited almost 45min before being seated.
My cousin and I decided to go to dinner on our last night in Jacksonville after a long weekend of working. We ended at Bistro AIX. We were definitely happy wirh our decision. Dinner was amazing! The food, the ambience was great. We had an annoying, loud lady sitting next to us but that was the only upset of the experience. Service was amazing, and we even received a complimentary dessert from a guy named Josh.I had the shrimp and my cousin had the Scallops both our dishes were amazing!!! And our serve brought me some bread so I could clean my plate (the tomato sauce was amazing).Overall a great experience. My cousin and kept talking about it, that night and the next day! 👍🏿👍🏿The Calamari was great as well!
Our expectations were as high as their menu prices. Unfortunately, the dinner itself was barely warm and mostly rather bland.Atmosphere = 4Food, overall = 3Service, overall = 2It was a decent experience, but I would not highly recommend to others. Wines were good, dessert was good but their interpretation of a "Moscow Mule" made us stop ordering additional mixed drinks from the bar. The dinner staff was polite, but unorganized and really slow.
First, parking here is decent. Plenty of space. They are quick to seat after arriving with a reservation. Had the calamari for an appetizer, thoroughly enjoyed that and had high hopes for the rest of the meal. After waiting for 40 minutes for the entrees we were disappointed to see that our food was barely warm. We ordered the Brussel sprouts for a side and it was supposed to come out before the entrees and we had to remind the waiter of it. When those came out it was mostly burnt. After finishing our meals it took another 20 minutes to get the plate removed from the table and another 13 after that to get the checks. Overall not a great experience, especially for a special valentines day dinner.
If I could do zero stars I would. I had such high hopes for this place. I had a 8:30pm reservation. Was told that we had to still wait for 10 to 15 minutes. Which wasnt a big deal to me. So we went to the bar area in the back. The bar area had 2 bartenders one older guy and one younger guy with a beard. It was very clear and apparent that the older guy did not know what was going on and barely knew the drink menu. He kept going to the younger guy to ask how do you make this. His tone when talking to people was very rude and aggressive. Unsure of maybe he been working to long but he def should not have been in the bar at all. Even when asked for check he still went to the younger guy to do it. At this point he should just go home because he wasnt doing anything that would help customers. Once we finally paid check at the bar I realized it was almost 9pm and went to check on our table. Again our reservation was for 8:30pm. So we get seated at our table in the corner by the kitchen. Luckily we asked for another table and server kindly let us move. Thanks to her for that. Once we ordered the appetizers were good however when we asked for the the filet mignon only to find out 10 minutes later that they are out of it. So finally we settle for the braised short ribs and it felt more like a unseasoned pot roast. Was so disappointed in my dinner. Even dessert was messed up. If it was 7 or 8 things on dessert menu half of it was marked off. I guess they marked off ahead to avoid anymore issues. However, we ordered the red velvet cheesecake and got a chocolate cake. They ended up giving us the red velvet cheesecake to go but that ended up taking a long time to get to table. Eventually someone in a button up shirt thinking maybe manager/owner since he wasnt in same attire as everyone else came over to confirm red velvet to go. But think done out of irritation on how many issues at our table.
Great food, better serviceDespite them being overbooked and having to wait almost half an hour, our waiter Jesse made us forget all about the delay. He is amazing at his job! He was super personable, kept us informed about our food, and made the entire night very fun! Unmatched service!
We got to the restaurant a little bit after the lunch rush. We were promptly seated and were promptly given water and silverware. Our waiter was very slow getting to our table but was very helpful when he got there. Unfortunately, the kitchen didnt get the correct bread on the item that was ordered and it took them almost 10 minutes to get the correct bread on the item. I was a little disappointed because Ive had a better experience at this restaurant in the past.
We had a great meal. The house wine is the best Deal on the menu. The French onion soup was good, but way overpriced. For the same money you get 3x more at capital grille.
As good as always. Only in town for a few days but had to stop by my one of my all time favorite Jax restaurants. The quality of meat on my burger was as high a quality as the steaks Ive been eating in Chicago. So glad to see Bistro Aix alive qnd thriving in this Covid world.
We were not disappointed, food was good, small menu which is usually a good sign.Downside is the "French" influence which is really limited and artificial.
I was going to a concert so I went into the bar area at happy hour and was amazed. I posted two of the pictures and I did not post the crabcakes however they were also excellent. Mark, Waylon, and Michael were so attentive, so extremely friendly & they went out of their way to share information with me as to local events, informed me about beer production and they were also very charming. They said the pathway for my concert on a definitely positive direction. The food was amazing
Dinner to celebrate our new home! The food was absolutely to die for. Thank you to our server Jesse, who made us feel like VIPs! Will definitely be back!
The foods gross they have no dress code and they claim to be professional but have a 21-year-old ( Who can’t take a phone call on her off day or that “ruins her whole day”you’re a gm bbg that’s part of the job and her boyfriend who likes to have little cry time in the office yep that’s definitely how to run a restaurant
This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend and me and my wife tried it for a lunch outing. Our experience was exceptionally good. We tried spicy calamari and French Onion soup for appetizer and both dishes were incredibly good. For main entree we had their shrimp special and Salmon. Once again they were delicious. We ended our lunch with pecan pie and lemon tart. We had a magnificent experience and I will strongly recommend it. I am sure like us, you would want to come back again for another good dining experience.
This place has a nice environment. We have a big party and they provided a nice table for us. They don’t have a big selection on their menu, and happy hour ends at 7pm. Their appetizers taste ok, not so impressive. HOWEVER their entrees are delicious. I tasted the short ribs lamb and scallops. Scallops and risotto are the best! Dessert tasted nice as well and I ordered the lemon tart. Service is friendly. Will be back!
Creme brûlée here was so tasty!!! unlike the flat bread, it’s more of a regular pizza than a flat bread.. I got mushroom one, it came out too salty. Will come back for dine in to try out more (:
Absolutely amazing cuisine and beverages pleasant atmosphere staff is polite and well knowledgeable. Had a terrific time. Definitely five stars
Excellent dinner tonight. Service is top notch & the food was delicious. A nice variety of wine to choose from. The Escargot was as good as advertised! Yellow snapper was terrific!! Perfectly prepared. The Cioppino was delicious with lots of tasty morsels. The sauce was very tasty as were the shrimp & fish.Dessert: the crembulee was perfect! Thanks Imad for making the evening special..BTW: safe place to relax & dine! Please support this iconic place!!
This was my first visit back since they reopened after the storm and I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is different than how it’s been in the past, but I love what they’ve done. The open kitchen is still my favorite. I love seeing a kitchen in action. We had the duck, the chicken, and the short rib. Everything was prepared wonderfully, but my short rib was the winner! It was delicious! I look forward to my next visit!
This place has great atmosphere and drinks, but most of all its food !! I ordered scallops and salmon; and, wow!!! Food in small pieces that pack large windmill kicks to the face, even Bruce Lee would be proud. The scallops perfectly seared on once side, sweet salty, moist, paired with mushrooms broccoli was exquisite. The salmon was moist and flavorful, no lingering of unexpected flavors just clean and tasty. The dessert was decadent, smooth and just enough to make you want more, even though you are beyond full.
What an awesome experience!! Staff and food were "Forking Amazing"!!! Cant wait to bring family and friends to this gem!!! What a great start!!
