Delicious! Great service, outstanding food. Bistro Fries were amazing!
Amazing little gem we found on our way to Belfast. We stopped in Portland and couldn’t find parking- but so glad we ended up here and tried my first oyster. Cottage pie and power bowls are amazing- and Emily too!
We had a date night here last Sauturday night. We called ahead and asked to sit at the bar. When we arrived, there were two places set for us at the bar. The hostess, waitress, and bartender all greeted us, as well as a lovely couple who had been sitting at the end of the bar.Our bartender made some drink suggestions. Emily did not disappoint! She prepared a jalapeno tequila cocktail with spicy Tajin on the rim. She even offered to freshen up the rim on the second cocktail! The food was delicious -- We had the Brussels sprouts, Fries, and the Blackened Salmon bowl. The salmon was underseasoned IMO and it was cooked perfectly. We had so much fun. Well be back next time we are in Yarmouth!
We stopped here by chance during road trip for a quick bite rest stop. So glad we did. Excellent customer service. Everyone was super friendly! Great food and great atmosphere. The bistro fries are to die for!
I have eaten here often and altho the place is modest in ambiance the food is rarely equaled. The chef s expert skills are rare and I highly recommend !
I so much miss good italian pasta and this is my first time in 2,5 years in the US where our family ENJOYED food: not fat, not salty, not overcovered with sauces. Delicious, delicate, with interesting ingredients added to make it special. Thanks a lot.
I am in Portland Maine again, one of my favorite place to be. Visited Bistro 233, started out rough because we were just sitting there for about 20mins or more and no one came to take our order, was about to get up and walk out but my husband said wait i think there is only 1 waiter. Yep there was only one waiter (poor guyhe had about 13 tables. However when he came to our table he was so pleasant, so nice, so apologetic, he took our orders and let me tell you the food, oysters and drinks were EXCELLENT! we ordered 3 dozen oysters, fried calamari ( the best so farand shrimp cabanara linguini, hummingbird cake with some martinis. I dont know about you all but Im definitely going to go back there, I do not care how long I have to wait for them to take my order, Ill wait because it is worth it. The oysters are $1 on Wednesdays. Everything was seasoned well and very tasty.
Just has dinner at the bistro, always great service, local and they have great food. The bistro fries are always amazing, their burgers are delicious and the salads are a work of art. Also if you go early it’s nice and quiet.Thank you Bistro 233, we’ll be back!
We were exploring Yarmouth today and trying to decide what to have for dinner. We drove past Bistro 233 on our way back towards Portland and decided to stop in and give it a try. Were so glad we did! The menu and food were amazing, the portions were generous, and the service was excellent! And the seasonal pumpkin crème brûlée was out of this world! We didnt get out servers name, but he was super kind and made our experience that much nicer 😊 Well absolutely be back again!
Following CDC direction for COVID-19 nice and friendly staff
There food was delicious. There fried haddock and ribs are fabulous!
Surprisingly delicious stop just outside of Portland. The brussel sprouts, fish tacos and fish and chips were all fantastic. Staff was super friendly
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, short waits. Love the menu, they always have good specials too.
We had a table full of apps and the lamb entree. The service and food were both very very good. Casual atmosphere comfortable booth.
Wow. This place has such an array of offerings for dinner, appetizers, small plates and desserts. My husband had the panko crusted pork with pickled cabbage, rice and tomkatsu sauce. He ate every morsel. I had the chicken piccata with gemelle pasta. The chicken was pounded nice and thinly and the lemon was just enough in the sauce. Capers abounded in the sauce and the pasta.I started with the house salad and ended with the pumpkin tiramisu with whipped cream. We shared both of these. Plenty of excellent food.Service was very attentive but not intrusive. Excellent explanations and happy to accommodate. We will be back!
I had the Lamb Bolognese with whipped feta cheese. Great service, food, and ambiance. I really enjoyed the evening. A great place to go after leaving Freeport Bean shopping.
Fish tacos had great flavor with the mango habanero salsa, I just wish it had more fish in it.Sweet potato fries were great.Service was a little slow - ran out of water and waited to pay.
The service was good. The food was subpar. If the food was $5-10 cheaper on the menu Id have rated this higher. I think I went in expecting a greater quality of food, but got bar food. Not bad, but not good. Kind of a rip though.
Great service and great food, we had haddock sandwich.moist and flavorful.fish and chips..same..and fish tacos..very good..the special treat was the brussel sprouts for an appetizer.. definitely recommend and would come back... reasonably priced too
Delicious lobster roll - light dressing and fresh lobster on a fresh croissant. Yum! Just right amount for lunch. (The fries were a bit oily.We would return.
I really dont like writing bad reviews in general, and although this review is very different from the multiple positive reviews I saw which encouraged me to try this place, our experience was unfortunately very worthy of this lower rating.First off, as a positive I will say it is a cute little place....could use a bit more ambiance but I still appreciated the old school, simple vibe. Thought it may be a good sign that they focused on the food more than decor, actually. We were seated in the back, and it smelled very strongly of fish...not so fresh, fish. That really should have been enough to leave, but I didnt want to drive around and find a new place. It took a very long time for the waitress to come over. Again...should have taken the hint. When she did come over, I will say she was very pleasant. We ordered haddock tacos, haddock dinner (over mashed potatoesand as an appetizer, the fried brussel sprouts. The brussels came out and although I have had a similar dish many times in many other restaurants, this version was very very greasy, to the point where I had a bite, and gave up. The fish dishes were thankfully not the cause of the smell but it was just nothing special. It seemed most things were drowned is a sauce or butter, instead of letting the food speak for itself. This made normally light dishes like haddock and haddock tacos feel heavy. The size of the fish on that haddock dinner was also definitely not worth the prices they are charging, but because of the reasons above, it did not leave me wanting more. All three of us that dined there actually didnt feel great after we got home. Not horrible or ill mind you, but just....blech. Still felt that way this morning even.....none of even wanted to eat anything for breakfast, so clearly something was not right about this place. My wife who never says anything bad about any place EVER, even said it wasnt good.So again, I am not sure if we just had the bad luck to go on a particularly bad night, and this is why it was such a different experience than others had. However, even though we are pretty forgiving and understanding restaurant patrons, based on this experience, we will not be returning to Bistro 233.
Excellent lunch! I wish I could remember our waitresses name, she was great. Awesome fish and chips, just the right size haddock filet. Bonus outdoor patio garden... our behaved dog was allowed to be with us. Thank you!
Place is awesome. Went here twice. Ga e my friends who have a place in yarmouth a gift card and they loved it also. The food is fresh and amazing. Nice vibe in there for a smaller place..wait staff are always nice and polite and they make great recommendations. Ill be back...thats for sure..
Sooo YUMMY! Unique adult drink menu as well! Great soothing atmosphere and not to pricey by any means. Especially for how tasty and fresh it all was.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Tuesday Taco night! Had a spicy beef and a tempura Salmon. Both were great but I loved the salmon with kimchi. Highly recommend Bistro233!
Pleasant server, fair to excellent food. Husband had fish and chips. That was the excellent meal. Daughter had salmon piccata. Too many capers, a little runny, but good. I had chicken pot pie. Description on menu was delicious. Meal was not. Served in a small skillet, with no sides, the pot pie was thin, a smattering of diced chicken and fewer, and smaller, veggies in a thin sauce. Unsatisfying. Fortunately, we have been here before.
Great food! Great service!
Bistro 233 showed me a gastronomic miracle! I have lived in Yarmouth for more than 3 years now, and never visited this place. I lived in the West End in Portland before that, and I agree that it is the foodiest city in the US. I must say that Bistro 233 can be put up with the best of greater Portland restaurants!Wayne Keown
Always a great experience at the bistro 233! Been coming here for several years and have never been disappointed with the food, drink or the exceptional service from the wait staff.Easy to find, right off RT 1 in Yarmouth. Kid friendly with plenty of free parking!
Was very disappointed in my meal last night. I had the Pasta Bolognese. I should have asked what kind of pasta it was served with but I just assumed it would be fresh pasta. The price of the entrée was $19 for pasta with a sauce. I was charged $20. It was served on packaged spaghetti. The sauce had a lot of flavor but not much else. This is the description on the menu, BEEF, PORK & VEAL SLOW COOKED WITH TOMATOES, ONIONS, GARLIC & CREAM FINISHED WITH AGED PARMESAN & FRESH BASIL SERVED OVER PASTA OF THE DAY. There may have been an ounce of meat, and no fresh basil. It’s pretty bad when you go out to dinner and leave hungry. Would not recommend going there.
This restaurant did not meet our expectations based on the reviews we read in Yelp. While service was of 4 star quality the food was not. Of the 3 dishes ordered only one was as expected. We shared a pork schnitzel that was pounded too thin and was over cooked with large pieces of garlic in the mushroom sauce. The dessert special was not as advertised. Based on this experience we are unlikely to return soon.
Honestly, we couldnt have been happier with the food and staff. We could tell there was a lot of thought and heart into the menu. We look forward to our next meal at 233.
The atmosphere was quaint and comfortable. Tables are set far enough apart where even on a busy lunch day groups dont feel crowded. Our server, Chris, was very attentive, quick, friendly, and seemed happy to be there. We reserved a table for lunch for our office Christmas gathering and had no issues upon arrival. Drinks were well-made and presented. But, oh my goodness, the food! For starters we got lamb chops, some tomato and cheese stick things that I dont know the name of, and some amazing bacon-wrapped figs! What a way to start lunch :I would recommend the bacon wrapped figs over and over again!! The menu is average sized but I feel that is the best type of menu, when I dont have to sit there for 30 minutes deciphering which food I really want to eat that day. Everything sounds so amazing. Some got the chicken pot pie, some went for burgers, but I went for the shepherds pie! It was AMAZING! Portions wete perfect for each person and we were all pretty stuffed by the time it came for dessert :-But that didnt stop us from having some. For dessert we tried the blood orange sorbet, the creme brulee, and the ice cream brownie sundae. All of which were beautifully displayed and full of flavor. Lastly, the owner and Chef, Zach, is very kind, well put together, and an absolutely phenomenal person who made our office christmas lunch a year to remember! Thank you Bistro 233!! I will coming back for more in the future!
Reservations recommended. Small but didnt feel crowded. We were sitting close to the very busy small bar and it wasnt overly noisy. Nice date night experience for hubby and me. Not a huge menu but lots of variety. 2 apps 2 entrees 2 high end drinks (nice little single malt selection3 beers and one dessert came to $111. Without the high end drinks it would have been 85ish. We came home with enough leftovers for 1 lunch each. Risotto was very good, added shrimp - 5 good sized ones, surprisingly not seasoned at all... Husbands mac and cheese with pulled pork was good but baked blazing hot. Service was good, except for a short time when our waitress disappeared and we waited for a fresh beer for awhile. She also asked us questions when both our mouths were full (pet peeve)... Really dont have any big complaints. Will definately go again.
Bistro 233 is a lovely local restaurant with a comfortable and charming ambiance and consistently tasty food at a reasonable price. I bring my parents on a regular basis and its always a reliably great experience.
Had the BBQ platter special. It was decent. The burnt tips were amazing but everything else just okay. Service was very slow for it being not busy. Staff was friendly though. A little pricey for the quality I had, but would give it another try.
Great mussels good lunch and nice owner.
The food was good although expensive for what you got. Service was slow...too slow. Interesting menu. I would give it another shot because its a good menu, but I would explore other eateries first. Staff seemed really unorganized and overwhelmed. Great ambience!
Perfect location, service, and food! Happened upon this place by happy accident on my way up to Bangor for business. I sat out on the cute, flower-filled patio. The menu isnt huge, yet has something for everyone, including both classic and inventive options. I got the twin lobster roll special. The waitress/hostess was great about subbing out salad for the fries and both that and the lobster were amazing! Each lobster role was overflowing with fresh lobster. Tossed in just the right amount of flavorful aioli and on perfectly toasted/buttery rolls. Their house salad is anything but boring with fig, caramelized onions, and pistachio. I didnt have much time for my stop and the woman who took care of me was friendly and efficient. I felt very welcome and you could tell she took pride in the offerings of the establishment. Id HIGHLY recommend!!!
Used to be much better and a local go to for us. Has gone downhill considerably in my opinion. They took off the classic 233 carbonara and the French dip, another favorite, off the menu. Overpriced and not worth it now- very underwhelming fish tacos and told the burger now lacks flavor.
Great food and atmosphere for a nice dinner. Not a loud low class resistant but not high class either. Its a perfect middle of the road place to eat. Waitress was very kind and professional.
Great location.Great food.Great staff. Well the hostess really stole the show. A combination of stunning good looks and impeccable professionalism.we really enjoyed our time
The service was excellent. Unfortunately the 10oz sirloin steak was something I would sooner expect from Dennys. Wife loved her meal though.
The food is literally the best ive ever had. Great and quick service always with a smile. Great cocktails too.I must recommend the fish/shrimp tacos and definitely the ribs!!!
We have had several great dining experiences here. Each time we have been so impressed by the quality and level of care that is evident in what they serve. They have deliciously prepared classic items and thoughtfully creative specials. Fresh food, great service, and a casual and inviting atmosphere...highly recommended!
I had the -Omelette with spinach, mushrooms, and goat cheese- It was great! I didnt expect it so be so big! It came with mixed potatoes - golden and sweet, delicious!
Tried the brunch here on Sunday. Found the food to be very good, service quick and friendly. The proprietor stopped by our table and inquired how things were going. As our conversation went on he asked if we had seen the recent review in the Portland paper. It is my understanding the review gave the place a very low score. I am glad I hadnt read the review as it likely would have influenced my decision to have brunch there. I dont know what went wrong for the person that wrote the review, but I did not find anything to take fault with. In fact I heard other diners complimenting the quality of the food.
This is one of the best restaurants in the state of Maine! Everything on the menu is cooked to perfection, the salads are great and the wine list is impressive. The mussels are always fantastic.A casual but still warm and inviting atmosphere, and great service. We have never been disappointed here.
I have been coming here for 5+ years. The food is moderately priced and generally very good (especially the mussels). The wait staff and bartenders are all great. Highly recommend it.
Ive been eating at Grill 233 for 5 years. Sometimes the service is a little slow due to higher than usual volume, however I love this place. The food is always good, the staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. I usually order off the menu since I have so many favorites such as the 233 pasta carbonara and the pork shank. The black and blue salad is excellent. The fish specials are great when I want to try something different. The lunch menu is awesome. The burger and the pannini choices are great.
