Birkenhead Brewing Company - Bar in North Shore, New Zealand
Birkenhead Brewing Company in North Shore
Description
Great food, beer, and atmosphere. Dog friendly! Very nice staff.
Often crowded (because lots of other people like it toobut a great place to grab a very nice beer. Not the sort of place for a quiet, romantic chat. Our normal bar was hosting a very loud event and so we headed back to BBC. The beer and chips are still nice but a bit more expensive than our usual place.
More"Pie of the Moment" was Pulled Pork and Apple, this thing was huge and so tasty. Loved it.Fantastic place, great beer, awesome food and the bar staff are up for a laugh. Tell them Ed Sent you.
MoreCold beer and great food. Parking was the only problem
Great food, nice beer, quick service. Would like more choice on tonics for my GnT but thats just a personal thing
MoreExtremely friendly, accommodating of special requests and dog friendly!
The best food..Best customer service.. the girl was polite and friendly. Good work guys
MoreGreat beer, tucker and team. Get involved people.
A friend and I popped in for a quick drink and was horrified to pay $44 for two regular glasses of mediocre wine. I was stunned by this. Sadly we won’t be back.
MoreAlways a good selection of beers, food is great, venue is inviting. One of Birkenhead’s gems!
MoreVery dog-friendly. Relaxed. Lovely staff.Good stop-off after a walk at Chelsea park. Next time will try more from the menu.
MoreGreat range of beers and excellent food with very friendly atmosphere 👌
Very nice pub with great burgers.
The place is okay, not really worth a 4+ star rating though. Being able to have Dogs around is always great but its a very small venue, too small to allow Dogs around and its just chaotic. We saw 2 Dogs have a go at eachother which put us on edge and there doesnt appear to be any system that the waitresses use to know who needs to order or even what is available. Our waitress didnt write down any of our orders which we felt uneasy about and when I asked her questions she looked at me blankly and wasnt paying attention at all to what I had asked. All up it wasnt a nice experience and wasnt the kind of place me and my family could chill and have a few drinks at, we just ate and left.Bit of a let down for a Birthday dinner out with family.
MoreFantastic ribs and a couple of hazies to wash it all down. Great local spot full of atmosphere and great staff. Thanks Steve and team!
MoreGreat selection of tap beers and nice service. Was also very impressed with the fries which were cooked crispy and had the perfect salt ratio.
MoreEverything was perfect.Nice and attentive welcome, great service, awesome food, great vibe and decor modern and a reflection of the community and local artists. Will certainly be back for a drink or a meal with family and friends.Recommend the Scotch Egg, not what you expect on a menu though really good.
MoreLove the craft beers and the Chatham Island cod fish and chips was devine. My new local 😊
MoreDope selection of brews. If you are a beef connoisseur then this is the place for you. Good vibes every time I go.Waitresses are so welcoming and friendly
MoreBeen here many times! For a bar nestled in the suburbs of Birkenhead you couldn’t ask for much more. Great selection of beer, the servers are always really friendly and all up a good atmosphere!I think the chef has changed over time, but the core menu has stayed the same with typical pub grub with some standouts to (the calamari and ribs go down nicely). For the price and for where you are you can’t ask for much more. Will keep coming back that’s for sure! And if you’re a local and haven’t been, try this place out…
MoreWarm & welcoming atmosphere in a beautiful Kauri villa. Great selections of NZ craft beers on rotation and exceptional food. Good at any time of the day, staff and locals are always very friendly and inviting.
MoreIve been here twice now and really enjoyed both experiences. Despite covid numbers slowing down business and making staffing difficult, everyone at BBC did their utmost to make it a positive experience. They have a great selection of beers on tap that are better prices than most craft brewpubs these days. The BBC burger was big and messy, just the way I like a good pub burger. My second time here, the place was only being run by a gentleman who I assume was the owner due to covid challenges and he did an excellent job keeping up with what was still a reasonable sized crowd. Another notable part of the visit was the fact that he remembered me from a few nights prior despite having only stayed for a beer. Impressive. It also says something when your establishment is still the busiest on the street even when things are a little crazy out there. Well done BBC
MoreGood selection of Tap Beers with a great range of cans and bottles to back that up. Food wise, I only tried the chips (vegan aioli available), but they were excellent. Friendly knowledgeable service too!
MoreAwesome bar. Such good service and variety
This bar is simply amazing! So many food options, and the vibe here is the best! If you end up going here, I strongly suggest trying the "impossible burger"! Its a fully vegan masterpiece with amazing flavour! Its called the impossible burger becayse its fully vegan, yet it tastes BETTER than a neat burger! There is simply no doubt that Id come back here again!
MoreThe beer is always poured perfectly, amazing range of craft, the food is off the charts and I especially love the girl in there called Becky.
MoreGreat place for an after work catchup. I only tried the bar food menu, it was great. Very friendly team. Great venue.
MoreRelaxed place with good beers and outstanding service. Hearty filling meals with a little flair and a lot of heart. If you are OK with dogs, youll love this place as a great friendly watering hole.
MoreAmazing night at this establishment. Staff were outstanding and accommodated our party of 7, which included children. Food was fabulous and the beer is always brilliant. Highly recommended
MoreA fab little bar right on the main street of Birkenhead. Choose your beers for a flight and enjoy the eclectic & wide range on offer. I would have liked more info on the beers we chose (maybe make up coasters w the beer logo on one side and a buttload of info on the other?), but it was still a lovely experience. Will definitely be back to check out the food options, and for more of whatever that yummy pink beer was!
MoreFantastic little pub with an awesome selection of beers and wines. The food here is delicious and they have a great food menu for kids. The staff are super friendly and one overheard my daughter comment to me that she didn’t like her cheeseburger as it had mustard in it so he whipped it away and offered another one! Love this place!
MoreWe had a shared platter, sour beer and a Christchurch IPA. Omgosh Im drunk on happiness. Ill never get a job as a supermodel because now i have tasted pure heaven Im never going back. The brisket was legit and everything was seasoned with a kiss from an angel.
MoreWhile they made a mistake with my order, the staff were responsive and quick to resolve it. Food tasted great, and great atmosphere
MoreVery friendly, helpful staff and open layout made me very comfortable and in no rush to leave. Large selection of NZ craft beers and ciders with a good selection on tap. The two stouts I had were very good, one with coffee undertones and the other more fruity raspberry. Hand cut fries were tasty and a welcome change from the food service style most places serve. Havent tried any of the main food yet but, looking at some that came out of the kitchen, it looked very tasty and a good size.As Arnie would say ”Ill be back”.
MoreOh wow - my first beer blend. It didnt disappoint. Great games shelf, great food and super friendly and welcoming.
MoreFirst time here, great selection of beers - had the No 8 coffee stout.Beetroot salad with chicken - superb. Scotch fillet was good. New waitress, friendly and helpful.
MoreNo complaints! Calamari was great and very generously portioned compared to other restaurants. The burger I had was amazing too.Cant wait to come back!
MoreAlways love the BBC. Great friendly staff, excellent food, and the beer selection is first class.
MoreHave to add to this review - went there last night, different staff, and STILL managed to make us feel like we were royalty. Where do they find these people? Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, I had beer shots thrown at me to help me decide and they kept the kitchen open when they heard Id had nothing to eat all day, etc. I cant tell you how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place <3Have been here a couple of times to meet a friend for drinks, and have loved it each time. The waitress makes you feel like you are the only one there, even though it is always buzzing, the beer menu is extensive and delish, as was the calamari, which we had twice. Multiple big heaters and throws, faux sheepskin out on the enclosed patio. Every staff member friendly and uber-cool. Others burgers etc food looked and smelled epic. Highly recommend!
MoreGreat food, even better beer and the service is awesome. Thanks guys, Great Fathers Day!
MoreGreat local spot for a beer. Rotating taps of great craft beer and a good solid menu with great food. Owner and staff always very friendly and hospitable. Nice outdoor covered area with heating as required. Definitely a great regular spot.
MoreGreat friendly service and simple classic like shank and mash but cooked and plated beautifully ... impressed
MoreLovely meals tasty haloumi salad.. Friendly managerA good place to come for a beer after work always popular
MoreGreat Venue for a few drinks, a special date or a big night out. Really good selection of New Zealand craft beer. Absolutely amazing food and such a nice vibe inside and out. A must visit when you are in Birkenhead.
MoreFinally had a reason to come all the way here as were looking for houses, and this is definitely the staple local pub. Its got kind of an olde town London pub feel from the bar to the toilets w handtowels. Got a good selection of board games. HOWEVER, very expensive beer that is served in what seems like skinnier glasses that I cant imagine are actually a proper pint?... more expensive than found in Britomart or the viaduct. Thats the only part thatll make our future visits limited. Otherwise, loved it.
MoreThis is a great place to enjoy the many different types of brews. They have an outside area that even has patio heating. The toilets are lush and the interior is very nostalgic. I enjoyed the paddle which wasnt too deep for your pockets... I definitely would come here again and enjoy it with friends
MoreBusy little bar with a good selection of craft tap beers. Bit expensive but its craft beers so you expect that. Waited over an hour for food. Said that they didnt know where I was. I was sat right in front of the bar. Bit disappointed with the food and food service.
MoreHeard alot about this BBC venue on the shore. Been meaning to check out for some time.... Well tonight was that night. Very crisp outside, inside was very warming. Bar staff very friendly. Great food, beer great, toilet most inviting. Ill be back.
MoreSuperb beer, nice place and friendly staff. Expecting pub food we were very positively surprised. Ribs were tender and juicy and so was the veggie burger. Would come back anytime for beer or bite(s). Beerwise, I very much recommend the bunker apa and the beautiful trouble ipa, in this order.
MoreJust all round awesome!Great service and help with what to grab next...beer was outstanding...food is phenomenal!Only problem was my glass couldn’t hold the beer long enough.Highly recommended.
