Contemporary European chain dishing up separate breakfast, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner menus.
Lovely food. Service really good.
Had a very nice lunch, the staff were excellent
75 minutes wait on food . Group of 16 but only ones in the restaurant. Salad bowl was chipped all over .
Lovely food... friendly staff... very quiet.. but it was lunchtime 👍
Good food, fresh, hot tasty.4 people, starters, mains, tap water, £20 a head including tip.
Staff and atmosphere was grand. The food let them down ☹️
Enjoyable lunch time meal, attentive staff good food.
A great experience! Brilliant food, attentive staff and lovely atmosphere. Some restaurants are kept too hot and are uncomfortable, this was perfect!
Really disappointed with the food !! The staff were nice and the young man was attentive but my heart sank as soon as I walked in and saw the tired, dirty, dogeared menusThe chips were luke warm and crunchy as if they had been sitting around for ages, the flatbread was meant to be chilli but came out as garlic and it didnt taste of garlic at allMy biggest concern was when ordering a bottle of still water I got a huge 750 ml bottle with the lid taken off ? That made me question if it was just a bottle of tap water, why would you remove the lid ?So really not happy ,wont be going back despite the attentive staff
Excellent service was served our meal very quickly And it was lovely . delicious x will be back x
Great atmosphere. Clean & bright. Good service and good food.
The food and service were nice but the meal was spoilt by the ladies on the next table, about 8 of them squealing and giggling loudly. The acoustics were terrible and my table couldn’t hear each other. Such a shame.
Had a lovely meal. Good staff. Very pleasant. Quick service and very busy. Great atmosphere
Loved this restaurant. Made a change not to have run of the mill choices on the menu. Staff could not have been more attentive or helpful. They dealt with our food allergies professionally.Happy to recommend.
Really Good portion sizes, staff very helpful and friendly! The chicken shawarma was amazing. Thank you!
The service was fine. Breakfast was nice enough. The only bread on offer was sourdough which is disappointing.
We decided to give Bills another chance after a terrible experience at the Bluewater branch last year. The Chelmsford restaurant however was disappointing all round for a mid week lunch. The service was slow (very understaffed). We were given a table that wasn’t really suitable for us (a couple with a prambut we made it work. The food wasn’t good - mac and cheese was tasteless and more sauce than pasta, the meatballs were dry and lacked flavour. The side salad with the mac and cheese was partially wilted.Apology was given by our waitress at the end of the meal for the poor service but it’s not her fault there wasn’t enough staff to cover the tables.Unfortunately we wouldn’t go to Bills again and wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
Great staff, brilliant food. Separate gluten free menu.
We really enjoyed our lunch here sourdough fondue and calamari for starters buttermilk chicken burger and fish burger for mains no room for pudding!! Would have liked to try the lobster pasta but only on dinner menu
Confused by all the high reviews. Went Saturday and ordered mains and drinks, within less than 5 minutes the mains arrived ! They must have been pre cooked and left in a warming area until someone orders them, so the food was all over cooked and dry. I know its not exactly an expensive place to eat, but they could cook some things from fresh. Service however was good.
Very nice and friendly staff but food is overpriced to what it actually is. I had crispy chicken filet that looked like reheated in a microwave escalope and with fried egg placed on it. There was a caslaw that was served in a small plastic dish resembling an egg shell. I found it a bit strange (I wonder how is it washed after use). Simple cup size dish would be much less creepy. My friend had a fish dish with fried potatoes. It turned out that he was served cube shape chips. He was going to get (according to the menutwo poached eggs. He received one.I found my escalope bland, not signs of salt or pepper. Edible though. The most upsetting was the fact that, as specified in the menu, they serve freshly pressed orange juice. It looked like it was just a simple orange juice that was diluted with a lot of crushed ice. It tasted like a poor quality orange squash. I did not finish it.Conclusion- the kitchen should be serving dishes as described in the menu. It is overpriced and quality is missing. We did not complain/share our bad experience with staff as they seemed to be very friendly. I will not be a returning customer any time soon though.P.S why almost every single dish has a fried egg added to it?
I see lots of good reviews recently so maybe I just went on a bad day/time. Saturday 10am for breakfast. I ordered eggs benedict, bacon and smashed avocado. It arrived fairly quickly but was cold, very unappetising. I didnt feel that the standard of the waiting staff was good enough considering the price either. I would suggest more training for them. Standing at the till, chatting and looking at people eating isnt cutting the mustard Im afraid!
Poor. What’s with all these recent 5 star reviews with photos of great looking food - very suspect! I understand that this is a chain, but for us it felt like no one was in charge of the service or quality of what comes out of the kitchen. Food was delayed, came out cold, overcooked dry burgers, stale buns, everything lacked freshness - I’m sure even the calamari and guacamole are straight from the packet (supermarket style). Not my thing! 2 stars as the initial waiter catered for allergies (the kitchen got it wrong), and someone enjoyed the vegan burger.
Amazing place and food. Steve was curtous and very kind...
Fab calamari starter and excellent main. Great service and scrupulously honest. My companion left his mobile phone behind and we didnt miss it for half an hour. Phoned restaurant and they had found it and put it away for us. So relieved. 😇😇😇
I come here every so often and the staff even though different each time are very professional, always smiling, polite and welcoming. Its a refreshing change to some places where staff are stuck to their phones and not really up to speed with customer care. Thanks again, the food was good, and the tea just as I like it. I will obviously pop in again when Im around this way again.
First time visit.Pancake stack with bacon was delicious and filling.Staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back when next in Chelmsford.Thank you.
Visited on mothering Sunday, it was really busy however the service was still very good.Got a great menu, with a very good selection for veggies. Food was ok, nothing wrong with it but would say its amazing.
Food was lovely, staff polite, friendly and welcoming had a wonderful meal will definitely be returning.I had the classic burger and it was cooked beautifully.
Nice. Food was good, waiting staff went from one extreme to the other; one minute all over us, (obviously not communicating as I think we were served or spoke to every staff member at some point), we asked for a few moments to make our food order and was left for ages when we were ready to order; it wasnt that busy to warrant that. That said, all were nice, just need to get the balance right.
Popped in for lunch on a Sunday. Amazing Halloumi and Avocado Burger. The fries were awesome also. Sorry didnt take a pic was starving but definitely filled my tummy 😋 service was great ... Friendly and smiley staff, not overbearing 🤩
Great staff and amazing vegan burger! Highly recommended.
Great service. Friendly and professional staff. Lovely tasting breakfast. Coffee on the small size. But thats just my opinion.
Went here with a friend for some lunch, Very nice food, very nice atmosphere staff all doing their jobs definitely return here, the plant pot desert was devine
Me and my boyfriend ate here last night and the waiter Alex looked after us, he was 10/10 on service and we would definitely return. We eat out all the time and this is by far the best service we have received. Thank you
Super staff with super service and excellent food. Lovely range of options and offers. Will return. Picture shows their edible flower pot dessert.
Ate there for the second time, a very enjoyable meal as before.Unfortunately the starters for people with gluten intolerance is quite limited and yesterdays menu had all the starters sold out, so settled for olives only. The main, in this case a turkey curry was great. All round a great experience.
Food was good, staff were very polite and very efficient. Worth a trip if youre in town. We had all day offering and I gear the dinner menu is really good too!
Recently l had a nice supper and the food was very good. I would recomend the fish pie and the carrot cake dounuts!
We arrived late in the lunch session, we were seated and our server came quickly and took our order. Food arrived promptly, considering how busy they were. The food and service were both good, great selection and a different take on some classic dishes.
Great service and food for a quick an easy lunch. Staff were all friendly and attentive. Great location along the river as well with plenty of outdoor seating available.
Loved the food, yummy chicken burger! The dessert was yummy and served so cool and pretty 😍 Our server was so friendly and attentive, will definitely come back 😊
Lovely service and delicious food - great vegan breakfast. The personal touch make it worth coming back to enjoy - very friendly x
I had a lovely evening at Bills with a friend. It was quick and easy to book online. And all of the menus are available to download because I am a serial menu reader! On arrival, we were asked to check in on the NHS App and our temperatures were taken. Masks and/visors were worn by all members of staff. There was sanitiser on every table. Great Covid compliance! My only criticism is that the chairs we had were a little uncomfortable. Think small, hard, church chairs. But there were other tables in the restaurant with softer chairs, so I cant take a star off as Id just book one of those next time now Im aware! The restaurant itself is clean, tidy and well presented. Perfect for any occasion, formal or more casual. Our waiter, Cristoph (I think, sorrywas brilliant! Friendly, attentive, with a cracking sense of humour! The food menu is small but perfectly formed. I opted for the chicken dumplings to start, sirloin steak, cheesy truffle fries with a mushroom sauce for main and strawberry doughnuts for dessert. I cant fault the food, it was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were just right. The drinks menu is brilliant and it is so refreshing to see a good range of non-alcoholic options. I had the Kombucha Royal Flush which was lovely. Ive even scoped it out online to have a stock at home!Bills - you made my first night out since Covid struck very enjoyable. I will definitely be back. Ive heard that your breakfasts are top notch!
Good food most of the time , it did come out cold unfortunately, they was busy but it was difficult to flag a member of staff
Lovely meal. Waiting period was over 1 hour today, no goodBut the meal was good
My very first visit to any Bills - we booked ahead and so were seated near enough straight away. It was bussier than I expected for Sunday morning. In regards to covid secure measures, your temperature is checked via non-contact thermometer and you are required to sanitise before entry. You also have the choice of being given paper menus or accessing it from your phone. You have a choice of outside or inside seating, and the chairs and tables appeared suitably spaced out.We waited approximately 1hr for our food to arrive (upon being seated, we had been advised it was taking about 40mins). The food itself was fine, I had smashed avocado on toast with salmon and scrambled egg and hubby had Bills brunch platter - both from breakfast menu. Despite the delay our waiter (Alexwas great and as attentive as could be.
Lovely food, freindly staff and great atmosphere. Would definitely return again. The chocolate flowerpot dessert is particularly good!
The service was fast, efficient and super friendly. The selection was food was good and the quality and presentation was superb. For a good and reasonable priced evening out with a nice atmosphere I couldnt recommend this place more highlyThe new chocolate Ferraro rosche dessert is to die for.
Been in for breakfast ,Very nice location and decoration and the weather was very good , with a good service that we didn’t wait for long.Unfortunately NHS discounts are not valid on Friday and Saturday but it’s written on the website.I had the Veggie Garden breakfast with eggs , Haloumi cheese , Avocado and Tomato served with a toast , along side a pot of teaThe eggs were ok , haloumi cheese was nice , I would say it was average, and a bit expensive .The pot of tea was diluted to allow 3 cups of tea to be poured from the pot using a single tea bag .In general it was alright, but I expected more
