Contemporary European chain dishing up separate breakfast, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner menus.
Great food .Service not so good .Drinks menus snatched out of our hands because they didnt give us each one !! No pleases or thank yous.Stretching over us with food orders!! No ask I g us if the food was ok.Very disappointing !!!!
Great food, good service. Right on the high street so plenty to see and do in the area and 5 minute walk from a free carpark. Really enjoyed the desert!
Good breakfast and nice atmosphere. Can get a bit busy but only because its nice. Good price point.
Had breakfast this morning. Even though it was busy the service was quick and the food was great. Emily, our waitress, looked after us and was very efficient. Very impressed.
Meals that never disapoint, friendly staff and warm environment. Definitely my favourite restaurant. Best hallumi sticks ;)
Nice cozy place. Welcoming crew. Had Eggs Royale. That was exactly what you need for the breakfast. Perfectly made. Flat White was not bad at all.
In spite of it being almost empty (after 2pmit took an eternity to get a menu, to get a drink, then after the meal (which seemed very tastyto have our plates cleared and be asked if we wanted a desert. So much so I realised Id overstayed my parking time and had to rush to the car to move it. 10% "service" charge begs the question what service?. In spite of telling them I needed gluten free food I suspect something wasnt as I havent been well since. First and last visit.
I love the Bill’s chain, always something new on the menu and you always have a good experience. This building is old and it feels romantic with the wonderful lighting. Brunch, lunch, dinner, the choice is yours. Sign up to the newsletter and you get a monthly treat, maybe a dessert, maybe a cocktail. On street parking
Enjoy coming here. Vibrant and busy. Good atmosphere. Usual menu fare. Good quality. Excellent service from nice staff.
Great chicken burger. The access to the tables at the back werent well thought through, found myself in the way of people trying to pass. Had a hot chocolate brownie which came cold, decided I would eat it rather than have it microwaved since it had a scoop of ice cream on top. Tasty and filling.
Ate at Bills with my daughters and it was great. They have a menu to suit all ages and tastes from child (my 19 year old ate from the childrens menuto old fogeys like me, and but also catering for meat eaters and vegans. Service was great, although staff seemed to be rushing around. Have eaten at other Bills restaurants and food/service has been consistently good.
2nd visit and further update. We all know that Bills is good. You know what to expect and you get it. Good to see decent gluten free options too. Perhaps a tad overpriced. Excellent service from Bronte.
Nice food! Staff very slow though. Waited 20 mins to even be asked if I wanted a drink and as I was sat outside I had to go in the ask for the menu!
Love this place. Great food. And polite helpful servers and offer emergency service discount, which is much appreciated
Ate at Berkhamsted branch on Monday 6th May at lunchtime, around 12.45pm; we sat in the front of the restaurant, on the western wall, table for two. I had the risotto with prawns. The risotto was very under-cooked and very dry, almost a third of the rice was cold and tasted raw; very little liquid was included. As a result the dish was very tepid in temperature, including the prawns. I mentioned this to our server but no feedback was given.
We hadnt booked but the staff were very accommodating giving us a lovely choice of where to sit .The food was delicious and the staff were brilliant!! Warm friendly and went over and above to make our lunch date a lovely experience. We would highly recommend !
Good service and lovely food at a reasonable price.
Its a lovely place but unfortunately the waitress we had couldnt cope with the dietary requirements and that was the last we saw of her! Fortunately the bloke in charge realised that we were still sitting there with our menus and was very helpful.
Nice menu, very pleasant staff, food had potential but not hot, stale toast no filter coffee, americano too strong need non espresso based coffee tea was good. If the food matched up to the staff youd have a winner
Super food, lots of choice, nice atmosphere & we had excellent service from Maria. She was very professional, sweet & attentive, even though she was looking after lots of tables. We have been to a few different branches & this one is worth going back to.
Always a pleasure to visit this branch of Bills. The food is good quality modern British with a focus on seasonal fare. Reasonable prices and attentive staff.
Really poor service on Sunday 17 March pm. We waited around an hour to be served our main course. Although compensation was given, the family and friends occasion was completely spoiled.
Always enjoy breakfast or evening meal here, service is always great and comes with a smile and there is a good selection on the menu. Food is always delicious, veg breakfast and haulomi burger are great.
Absolutely fabulous place! Great service and great food. It was our first time there and we will definitely be back!
A very disappointing experience! We had visited the London Bridge branch before Christmas, and had a fantastic time. Not so here. We had booked a table well in advance to get a good spot, but even though it was far from full, we were shunted to the half empty back room. Several dishes were sold out (cmon, 8pm on a Saturday night, and you have already run out? Stock control?). We ordered bread for the table, but by the time the starter arrived, it had still not materialised. When this was pointed out, it caused some minor panic, and 15 minutes later, we still had only received 2 out of the 3 starters. It was "resolved" with hastily throwing two small pieces of bread to the table, and eventually, the third starter arrived as well. There werent any major disasters after that, but the wine was dull, there was only one beer on offer, and the evening was well deflated. I really didnt want to give the (compulsory10% service charge, but didnt want to be unpleasant either. Certainly didnt warm me towards coming back!!
Free prosecco Birthday promo means we celebrate the missuss bday here (for mine we do the free bottle of Prosecco at Prezzo😉.. So sign up on their website if you havent already. Good selection of starters (Patè is my favoriteand the food in general is always good. Some nice weekly specials too. Always busy when we go.. Parking is on the high street, but weve always found a space.
The food was excellent however I did have issues with the drinks. We ordered two teas which came in two large teapots with about 1/4 of water. This meant that this took up most of the table and the tea tasted weak. They should have one large pot between two and our teapot wasnt clean do had bits floating inside our tea.
Thanks to the admin (I thinkfor being so lovely today! Had a great service, considered my special request (I was craving for Benedict eggsand of course, food was great too.Looking forward to come back for brunch!
Very disappointing. I have enjoyed eating at Bills several times over the last few years, mostly at the Berkhamstead branch. Last nights visit was far below the modest standard we have come to expect. Tuesday night is not usually a busy night and there were almost as many staff as customers at around 8pm. Perhaps bored out of their minds, the waitresses were deep in conversation with the waiter around the till and apparently forgot what was expected of them once our orders were taken. The food and simple drinks eventually arrived after much prompting, brought by the very apologetic waiter. The platter starter was very nice but the burgers werent. The "well done" one was too dry while the "medium" was under cooked and the bun was stale and fell apart, as if it had been inexpertly thawed in a microwave. The chips were limp and not crisp. In previous visits, all had been just right. The point of a limited menu is to ensure a consistently high standard. The chain needs to decide whether it is going to close this failing branch or invest in some proper management to bring it back up to scratch.
Good coffee and a nice breakfast. Bills garden breakfast is what I had (in the picturewhich was a lovely balance.
Food was okay, nothing special. Had to ask waitress for water three times before it was brought to our table. Its an okay restaurant but nothing to shout about.
I love Bills restaurants and I have been to many of them in various places, Watford, St Albans, Marlow to name but a few. However the one I love best is Berkhamsted. The restaurant location and atmosphere is good and the food is always first class. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. There is one person that needs a special mention and that is Ahab. I am always pleased if he is around when I visit the restaurant as he is so welcoming and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for him. He really seems to enjoy his work and actually cares about the customer. He even helped me with my new iPhone and kindly put the Bills App onto it for me....now that is service!.I would highly recommend Bills restaurant at Berkhamsted.
Called in for a bit e to eat before a film. The restaurant/cafe still interior was nicely styled and service was good and fast. The food was good. We chose the two course deal for £11.99 which was reasonable.Would be more than happy to go back in the future.
Amazing food, drinks and staff! Would 100% recommend the butternut squash stew and grain salad. It was amazing! Only thing I would say is that it is a chain so if you want something more special than that Id go somewhere else.
Hats off to the chef and staff at Bills in Berko for last night! Burgers at the weekend are a treat and we were so looking forward to it and were not disappointed! We had burger and fries with the chocolate bomb was light, crunchy, salty, sweet and perfect to share. We were asked how we liked them cooked and they came a perfect medium! Sliiightly pink and so juicy! Great crunch with the fresh salad and the sauce is great! We were just saying that it was the best burger We’ve had, not only in bills but in Berko and the staff were courteous and helpful as always! Thank you! (Sat 28th April)
Good food and great service. Sightly on the expensive side but not poor value. Think we got lucky getting a walk-in table when we did so probably advisable to book.
Plenty of other restaurants in Berkhamsted, do not waste your money here. We went for lunch at 14.15, therefore there was plenty of staff and relatively few customers, so the service we received was inexcusably awful. To begin with our 2 children did not receive their starter. For the mains my wifes steak arrived 15 min after everyone elses and was bland, overcooked and tasteless. At desert they brought 1 correct order, 1 desert we did not order and the 3rd desert never arrived. 10min after returning the incorrect order we were still left waiting for the deserts. The desert was ice cream - how long does it take to scoop ice cream? We gave up in the end, and left money on the table. You can imagine how pleasing this was for the child that did not receive desert.
Fantastic breakfast, great value for money! Lovely service, friendly face and service with a smile!
Was here for a company Christmas meal so the menu was set prior to us turning up. We had a few vegans in our party including myself and the food was fantastic - Vegan Christmas options tend to lack a little bit but this was really impressive. Really nice to know Bills is taking vegan options seriously. Not major criticisms about this place, really nice fit out but when its busy which it did end up getting it did get hard to hear others at the table as the sound seems to just bounce around the room.
Lovely building and friendly staff. However the menu can be quite limited but there are some good options. Has hire out rooms for private functions which are good for special events.
Comfortable restaurant. I had a nice garlic prawn starter. Unfortunately I chose shepherds pie for a main course. This came out on the shallowest or dish with made. There was so little meat and not much more potato. It was molten and I burned my tongue. Staff did try to help and I was offered a side of chips which I enjoyed far more than the main. You can get a nicer shepherds pie as a supermarket ready meal. Id recommend you avoid this dish.
Recommended by my daughter as the best brekkie in Berkhamsted, have Just had brunch with my two friends at Bills in Berkhamsted and cant recommend enough!! The food was lovely and the service fantastic! I asked for French toast with my bacon avocado and roast tomatoes and although it wasnt on the menu the guy, who I think was the manager went and cooked it himself for us!! We will definitely be back! It was yum!!
pretty average all round. The staff were nice enough, the food was OK. Think worst was we hated the room we were put in - so loud and busy and airless. Guess its another one of those "not at a weekend" type of place?
Great location and the garden at the back was a pleasant surprise. However on my visit, there was only two staff serving the the whole resturant ! Service was a little bit slow as a result. That being the case we we spoken to & treated well under very stressful circumstances & the food was good.
Lovely place, lovely interior and wonderful staff. Food was excellent and the atmosphere is so pleasent. They even gave me a gift for having passed my driving test on the day and my mum a free glass of wine for her birthday, truly lovely and went above and beyond.
Very average. Far too much garlic in garlic butter served with steakSo much lemon grass in Thai Green Curry my daughter was unable to eat itTried to recommend a glass of rose as they had no dessert winePina Colada served in a pint beer glassExpected better for the price
Classy, stylish and the food is great. One of the best places to eat in Berkhamsted
Have been going to Bills since they first opened in Berko. Started off great, lovely food and nice staff but the last few times Ive been have been massively disappointing. Food looked like it was cooked by someone who was learning to cook for the first time and staff were not attentive at all. My scrambled eggs were the worst Ive ever seen, I could see chunks of egg white and egg yolk, looked like a boiled egg mixed in a blender. I showed it to the waitress and her response was thats how we usually make them. Will never return, there are plenty of nicer places in Berko.
Food looks nice but was cold. We waited a long time, clearly a problem with front of house which was the general theme of our visit, disorganised. We like Bills but this is the poorest weve been to. Dont expect typical bills service, for half the price you can get a hot breakfast across the road at Bel. Oh, and this isnt London - dont add a service charge.
Got really excited when I saw the healthy options available on this menu and got up on a sunday morning to cycle there for breakfast. I was disappointed with the avocado on toast with poached eggs (which was recommended by the waiting staff.)The main ingredient avocado was rock hard and inedible. The side of streaky bacon was soggy and hardly cooked at all. When the staff came over to ask if everything was ok I mentioned the avocado and bacon and he loudly embarrassed me asking me to walk with him to the kitchen and see for myself how fresh everything is? I think he missed the point. They then presented us with a full bill plus service charge. what an insult. left feeling horrible. I wont be going back.
