Eatery with blue, star-studded ceiling showcasing healthful, modern fare, wine & local art.
Have been coming to this restaurant for over 26 yrs. Has always been consistent and delicious. Definitely one of my favorite spots in SLO. I will be coming back here when we are in the area.
Excellent healthy and tasty organic food. Excellent service. Great location. Whats not to like.
Delicious food and very friendly staff. Cozy vibes and natural light. My salsa verde omelet was a great portion size. I ate the entire plate without feeling overly full. Street parking only.
We loved Big Sky Cafe so much we ate there twice during our weekend stay in SLO! We have many dietary needs and their quality food allowed us to eat out! Their meats are delicious with no preservatives or sugar! Great salads. Great staff!
Been eating here for years, their food is usually very good. This trip, I was disappointed with the service, our waiter was lousy. Overall, it was good but not the best experience.
Went here with my family (Mom, Dad, Sisterand had the Huli Huli chicken, which was absolutely delicious white meat with a teriyaki sauce. Mom & Sister shared a Eggplant-Caprese Salad which has nice spinach leaves and rich stuffed eggplant and buffalo mozzarella. And Dad had a macaroni and cheese with crawdad tails, which he likes. Nice restaurant atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely come again next time Im in the area
Best service, it was a super hot day and our server moved us to a table and pointed a fan right at us! Food was fresh and delicious 😋
Huevos rancheros was great! The upsetting part were the breakfast potatoes. Cold and stale. The server asked if we wanted a new plate and suggested "extra crispy". That sounded great! Until my wife and I realised they just threw old stale potatoes in a fryer to try and bring them back to life. Overcooked and burnt.Id give them another shot to do it right next time.
Score! What a find. Incredible menu, great servers and a killer, relaxing ambiance.
Great place! scrambled eggs were very good, breakfast burrito was huge and great. Nice outdoor dining. Spacious and inviting. Highly recommended
Super hospitable! I stopped by for a coffee on a long motorcycle trip and the kind hostess would not accept money for my drink when she heard I was on my way to SF from San Diego.
Their BLT salad and potato corn chowder were amazing 😍 Our server Jill a delight! Going back soon.
We came here our last morning of our stay in Pismo, we wished we had come here every morning instead! The pancakes were really good, they also had phenomenal gluten free pancakes for one of us with an allergy. The eggs were good, and the bacon was the best in the are, very well cooked and really good! The add-ons for the pancakes were a very nice surprise that we could order and receive! The only bad part about the whole meal was their syrup was very runny, but it didnt ruin the food by any means. One more thing, our server was very, very sweet, personable, and caring! Thank you so much for the great experience!
We visited this location in a vacation with friends and were impressed with the amount of vegetarian options. However, I did not enjoy my vegetarian burger—it was chewy and not very tasty. My husband loved his chicken sandwich. We both got the sweet potato fries which were cold, and they had an orange zest that we weren’t very fond of. Overall, good location, nice servers.
We ordered two hamburgers, one soup, a Cubno sandwich and two appetizers (hummus plate and tempura cauliflower). The two hamburgers and Cubano were fine, but my wife only consumed about a quarter of the soup leaving the rest finding it unsatisfactory. The alleged tempura cauliflower was not as advertised. Tempura is dipped in a light batter and fried. These were just fried a little with no batter, definitely not tempura. The most disappointing were the sweet potato fries. They arrived barely warm and very soft. It looked like they were baked, not fried, and left out to long before serving.
The food was mediocre and very bland. The service wasnt good either the waitress wasnt welcoming and made some rather odd comments to me and my family. If you like seasoning in your food dont go here.
Came here for lunch, the Big Sky Asian Noodle Bowl was delicious! Fresh ingredients and very good flavor. Broth isnt super rich, but still tasty. The only negatives…menu was not clear about food allergen ingredients and when I asked the waiter he didnt know either. The service was mediocre in that the waiter didnt really stop by and see if I needed anything after serving the food. The ice tea was good flavor, but hardly any ice served in it so it was warm.
Were in love.On a drive from LA to SF, we decided to grab lunch in SLO. After walking around, we saw a beautiful brick-front cafe. The menu looked delicious, so we tried it.We wanted to sit outside and it was a bit cool. The staff kindly offered to lower the umbrella so we could get some sun. They were exceptionally helpful. And then the food came. It was absolutely delicious. The Huevos Rancheros and the omelettes are tastefully made and also very filling. Nothing was left to be desired. The coffee (very importantwas awesome also.I was so excited about our stroke of luck to have walked into this cafe...that I left my sunglasses behind. Whoops. After contacting the restaurant, the manager Jill immediately offered to ship them back to me (even though I live in New York City). I even got a fun note.I dont often leave reviews, but this was an exceptional experience, from walking in all the way to getting my sunglasses in NYC.Thank you Jill and the Big Sky Cafe team!
Big Sky Cafe has a Big Heart for Dogs 🐕. Great food, coffee and service. If you find yourself in beautiful San Luis Obispo California Dont miss out on eating at Big Sky Cafe, they really make you feel at home. My Burger and fries were great and that home grown tomato really added to the great taste 😋
We had a grilled cheese sandwich and a Reuben, both came with choice of fries, salad or soup, which is nice. Service was good and very friendly.. A little pricey, we just had water to drink and the check was $34. Sandwiches were very good but not extraordinary. Fries were standard, crisp and hot.
Its a quiet place. Could be cozy. I wish theyd wash their cushions. The staff wasnt very welcoming. Our server Candace was ok . She didnt introduce herself to us, she walked off while my husband was speaking to her, I do appreciate her going to check if we could have dinner before dinner time. To me the food was mediocre and frankly I would not recommend the place. Its just, though the food reads/sounds amazing on the menu, it was lacking in flavor and character for me. Aside from the Spanish dish I had (which after reheating and eating with saltines was amazing), the nachos were dry, the steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare), not dry, but a very bland flavor. So in the event you want to slather sauce on your meat (not A1 because they dont carry itthis is the steak for you. With that said, bon appetit. I hope you have a better experience than I did.
Amazing spot. The ambience is cozy but spacious. Serves breakfast until 1 (my partner insisted I include the phrase the omelette was eggs-cellent). I had the veggie beet Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries. They also bring the famous Pepper Plant sauce to your table. All large portions, hot and fast out of the kitchen. Not too pricey and speedy but relaxed service. Shout out to Josue for taking care of us.
Maybe we came on a bad day, but none of us can understand the rave reviews. The menu looked fantastic, but every thing about our meal was mediocre. Service was slow, although very friendly. Nashville Hot chicken was not at all spicy and the chicken was a little dry. Salad was decent and the polenta fries were novel, but not good enough to save the rest of the meal. Big Sky was a big disappointment.
Nice airy place, with a small patio in front. Had the chicken pesto sandwich, very yummy! 👍
Quality menu, located downtown. We had great service, it was a slow night so lots of attention from our sweet server. They had a live guitarist/singer and the food was very good.
The atmosphere is inviting and country music was playing. Staff were wearing masks and were friendly. Outdoor seating and a good variety on the menu.Unfortunately the food I ordered was really bad. The noodle soup was flavorless except for the lazy jarred diced garlic which was terrible. It had edamame beans, spinach and only a few cubes of uncooked tofu with a small amount of noodles. It was so bad that I had to throw it away. The hibiscus tea was unsweetened and no sweetener was offered.
The food here is great. The staff is generally friendly. They have some great Vegan/vegetarian options (try the soyrizo on their tacos. Overall its a good restaurant and I come here a lot. The only thing is that I never know what to expect service wise. Sometimes its not the greatest, sometimes theyre not the friendliest. It took me about 4 visits to finally get into their groove.
Nice staff and environment.Potato’s we’re cold, huevos rancheros didn’t hit for me. In general I found the food bland. Not bad if you have to grab some breakfast but I’d recommend something else.
Visited SLO, enjoyed breakfast at Big Sky Cafe. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Ordered the Devils Mess, fresh fruit, and OJ. Great meal to start the day. Friendly courteous staff, worth a visit.
Delicious! Roasted brussel sprouts were amazing. Nice salads and sandwiches. Fresh and healthy. Open air/outdoor space was great with our dog.
We came here after a long drive, did not expected much but it definitely exceeded our expectations. We loved the food and the atmosphere. Would love to come back for sure.
Visited SLO for the weekend. Made it a point to try out this restaurant for breakfast. My husband and I shared the huevos rancheros dish but got it as a burrito and a stack of buttermilk pancakes. All were delicious and the ingredients were great quality. Food came out pretty quick; got in at 9am and we were out by 9:45 ready to explore the rest of the area. Great service! The gentleman who took our order was very nice, patient and informative.
Very friendly service, they use really good fresh and local ingredients like cal poly eggs. They rang us up wrong and caught it after we had already paid. Went the extra mile to give charge us the correct amount.
We came here really early in the morning! The waitress was really nice and we had to sit outside (covid). She was nice enough to put us under the heaters so wed stay warm!I got the huevos rancheros and it was pretty good! I had no idea it was a vegan plate. So hats off to them for making this good!My kids got pancakes and eggs, fresh fruit. They enjoyed it.My husband had the Chile verde omelette and was surprised to see how small the serving was. You could probably eat it in one bite! He was pretty disappointed and not pleased. The coffee cake was my favorite part!!Would I come here again? MAYBE without my husband. We try new restaurants every time we come to San Luis Obispo. Im glad we tried this place but probably wont come again. Our breakfast tab was a little over $100 (a little much for us).
My gosh best chili verde burritos ever. And my gosh had the best service thank you for positive experience...
Great little place to enjoy brunch. The Green chile omelette is a great combination of Eggs with a Latin flavor.
Came here around lunch on a Wednesday and had a pleasant experience.Food was delicious (I ordered the shakshukapictured below. Service was great, staff is friendly.Parking is street parking so it’s better to plan ahead. Also the spots are meteredOverall I would definitely come back and recommend this place
Food was delicious and healthy. However, their menu in restaurant was different from what is available online. Options for vegan people were very few because of which our Dec 31 dinner didnt go as planned.
Super delicious veggie-friendly food! We were there for breakfast and it was a hearty way to start our day!
We’ve been to Big Sky Cafe twice now and the service has been excellent. We are vegetarian and found some very good vegetarian dishes. My favorite are the polenta fries, so good!!I’m not a big drinker but I wasn’t sure there was any vodka in the Bloody Mary I ordered which was fine given the price and we were walking and exploring the downtown area. The restaurant is open, the staff is friendly and owner Greg is the nicest most pleasant person. We will definitely keep returning.
We went there over the weekend and they had live music 🎶 They had plenty of vegetarian and vegan options for us. We loved the 4 cheese Mac and cheese (not vegan). The bean burger was slightly on the under seasoned and dry side hence the 4 star rating. The hummus was good. We also ordered pozole and that was yummy as well. Overall a good experience and would definitely be back.
The skies the limit on their adventures menu. Breakfast, lunch & dinner explodes of geographic bounties. Most of the selections delights and surprises the senses.Great for the health conscious, vegetarians, & carnivores alike. Oenophiles can raise a glass to their fine selection of wines. Food served on colorful plates, service welcoming and attentive.<-> Over years of use, Ive have notice the furniture and decor in need of a reboot.
Had breakfast here on a Sunday morning. Love this place! Recommended to me by a local. I showed up around 8:30am and a lot of tables were available. I noticed by around 9:30am the place is pretty filled. I was greeted by a very friendly old lady (maybe shes an owner?), and my server was extremely courteous and friendly as well. I felt very welcomed.I had the chicken sausage spinach scramble egg, with a latte. They started out with a couple complimentary mini muffins and a small piece of pastry (like a sponge cake?I think those were they famous jalapeno muffins. They are delicious! My eggs were good too. It was great with the hot sauce (which my server brought to the table without me asking). My latte was nice and smooth, and a pretty big portion at that. I didnt finish my latte and the muffins, and asked for a to-go cup and box. My server happily brought over the cup and a to-go box, which came with a couple more pieces of those magical mini muffins!Thank you for your hospitality, Big Sky Cafe. I really enjoyed this place. Will definitely come back the next time I visit SLO.
Unique food in a unique atmosphere. If you want something different this is a great place to try. The Ruben sandwich was excellent
It was good and tasty with good service. I came kind of late but they were so nice and friendly :the food was fresh and tasty but I think I should have made a different choice. I loved the polenta fries and Mac n cheese but my vegan paella was just not the meal I think I wanted but it was good and I liked it. I hope you will too! Enjoy!! :)
My gluten free dinner (kobi dinner with no bunwas delicious. It was fun watching the staff service a larger group. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
Wow! This #allergygirl ordered everything and tofu without eggs in a scramble. What a delicious dish!!! Perfect!!! See you again soon Bog Sky!!
Stopped on our way to SFO, this place offers some amazing food. Ambience is good, portion served is good. Just have to tackle a space for car parking on a busy afternoon. I highly recommend it for veggie n vegan lovers. This place serves some great food.
A group of us were passing through town on business when we decided to stop in for breakfast. All of the staff was exceptional. Our food came up quickly and tasted amazing. As we were finishing up our meal the owner had a graceful way of telling us thank you. I should have mentioned that my group was all active duty military in uniform. This went beyond a good restaurant experience due to the fact that we were reminded of the fact that there are good quality and caring people in the great state of California.Thank you for the wonderful experience. If I’m ever passing through again I’ll be happy to take my business here!
Ive been eating at this restaurant for over 15 years and is is usually a great place to eat! Lots of vegetarian options and the locals know the cornbread muffins are the bomb! Easy downtown location and the restaurant has a nice open feel to it. Staff are super friendly and will do their best to make it a good experience.
