Festive island-themed bar & grill presenting American & Caribbean dishes & frequent live music.
Appetizer sample: loaded potato skins, onion rings, fish bites. All were very good. The batter on the fish bites and onion rings was light and crisp and all were cooked perfectly. Hamburger done exactly as ordered and tasty. Pork chops entree quite good. Chops were moist and tender and the green beans were truly yummy. Mashed potatoes not so much--tasted liked they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time. Their unsweetened iced tea is really good. Beer selection plebian at best. All prices quite reasonable. Server could have been a bit more attentive.
What a wonderful hidden gem. Great food for a good price, and my cocktail was amazing. Im definitely coming back here.
Wife and I both ordered the fried shrimp platter traditional expecting southern fried shrimp. Was really disappointed the small shrimp was mostly batter, a greasy tempura batter. If I wanted bait shrimp covered in tempura batter, I would go to Long John Silvers. Fries and coleslaw were also substandard. The waitress was nice, but the service was bad. The almost empty parking lot and very few patrons inside on a weekend evening should have been our indicator to drive away, but we decided to give it a try. We do not recommend this restaurant based on our experience.
The Fish Bites on the menu was great, but the temperature was hot inside.
My wife told me to pick anywhere I wanted to eat for my birthday. I picked my favorite burger,The Smokehouse Burger at Big Lick Tropical Grill. This burger is cooked to perfection, melted cheese, bacon, barbecue sauce and onion rings. The fries are the best anywhere in my opinion.Great service and a great price. Love it!
When had lunch there today and Caitlyn was our server. She was fantastic. She was very enthusiastic about us being there and was always excited about what we ordered. She was there to bring out refills and asked us every so often if there was anything that we needed. Thank you Caitlyn. We will ask for you the next time we are there.
The worst customer service experience ever. Very simple order of 2 Philly cheesesteak sandwich’s. I placed the order online and paid for it online only to arrive there and find out after receiving an email from them saying my order was ready, and to my surprise they haven’t even started it. The young lady who assisted if you want to call it that, pretty much avoided me until I informed her that I will need to cancel the order so I can make it back to my job in time. If you are pressed for time, stay away from this establishment.
Saturday band entertainment, tasty food at a reasonable price, and well priced drinks; what else could a person ask.
My mushroom swiss burger was great!
Really good food. Awesome atmosphere. Fair pricing on food and drinks. Tater kegs are amazing!
My husband and I went and joined a group. The food was great. Lillian was fantastic. But the room was hot and I almost tripped several times going to and from the bathroom because it had a slope.
I love Big Lick and these are to die for! I love everything there But the salad has everything on it ! Back again 5-13
The food is absolutely terrible. With that said I do like to same something positive about a place. The wait staff were very friendly. This place is lage and has what looks like could be a great outdoor area. It could be alot of fun and could really be something if they can fix the kitchen and stay open later for those looking for a party.
I ordered the sampler and it was great. So much that I had to take some home. Everything was cooked and tasted great.
Friendly service, good food, reasonable pricing.
Great food. Friendly service. Nice and clean. Excellent job. Really enjoyed it.
Been several years since visiting there. Enjoyed our meal. Service was good and pricing was great too. Recognized server that has been there 21 years. 🤗
Good food decent alcohol prices would be a good date night honest opinion.
Fun atmosphere. Decent food for a good price. Live band Saturday night was good.
The past two times we ate here it went pretty good, decent food, service, timing. However this past visit, was not so well. The only thing that made it worth three stars was the waiters response to try an make it better, the nachos we ordered where very bland, very little shredded cheese an hamburger, mostly chips, the steak my wife ordered had no flavor, Im assuming it wasnt seasoned while on the flat top, the alligator bites where over cooked, it was just crunchy shell, the breading on the shrimp I ordered was over cooked, so hard an crunchy I had to break it off an eat the shrimp without the breading, me an my wife come from the food industry, both of us former managers of similar style places, I get it. Sometimes your short handed, sometimes your training new people who dont know how to properly prepare all the food correctly etc etc. The waitress had to get approval from the manage to discount the steak an take the alligator bites off, an not one time did the manger come an speak to us.
Amazing!I brought a team to Lynchburg to compete in a multi-day championship. Big Lick supplied all of our lunches and dinners throughout the championship and they were incredible. The food was great! Bethany helped me create a nutritious and affordable menu and we were never short on food. The deliveries were always on time and to the location that was designated. When we go back to Lynchburg, we will be getting Big Lick again without a doubt. If I could give it ten stars, I would. They were awesome. If you have a team that is traveling to Lynchburg, this is the place you need to get your food from.
Great place to get good food and good drinks without breaking the bank. Atmosphere is casual and the menu has plenty of choices.
Clean, affordable and very well priced. Everyone is so accommodating and willing to do whatever to please their guest. Highly recommended!
The food was great along with the service. This was my first time there. I enjoyed the experience.
Great place to eat a meal that is tasty ,filling, and budget friendly.
Please dont waste your money going to this place. The food is absolutely horrible. The chicken tenders are so hard and tough it could break your front teeth. Also, the taste is very bland. The beans and rice was clumped together like old mascara and the only taste it has is sprinkled red pepper. Absolutely disgusting food. I threw it into the garbage can.
I was exteamly disappointed with the service your establishment provided. I picked up lunch when I opened my salad there was a big green fly sitting on top. I taped the container shut after taking pictures. I took the container back to your establishment 2nd trip no lunch to eat I waited for 20 min to get a 3.00 refund and gift card I will not be back I gave the 5.00 gift card to a unsuspecting customer on her way in shame shame on you Big Lick
Below average food and atmosphere. I got what appeared to be honey mustard with my burnt coconut shrimp. My “island rice” was closer to Taco Bell rice, think rice with cumin. The mac and cheese was super thick and more like Mac and cheese water. Overall very underwhelming and disappointing.
Super average....the service was lacking a bit...and the food was ok. The main dish wasnt bad but the rice & beans need some spices....unfortunate...I was hoping the jerk chicken would take me back to the Jamaica i remember 🇯🇲!
We enjoyed the atmosphere and our chef salad. Our bartender was very attentive. Uptown Fuzzy Worx was playing and they were great!Apparently on Thursday its a hopping place.
Wonderful food, great consistent and attentive service, and excellent pricing. The atmosphere is very upbeat and inviting.
Big Lick has some great staff members and great prices. This is not my most favorite spot, however, a group of teenagers or college students would love it. Sometimes there is live entertainment and they have an outside patio to enjoy as well.
The food was amazing. So great to be able to eat outside too. The waitress was right on target making us feel welcome and attending to what we needed.
We were there with a large crowd of people and the waitress was training a new waitress. Not only did they get all the food orders correct but they did it in a very timely manner and they also came back and checked on us. Very good service.
Everything was delicious and their fry game is on POINT! Be forewarned that the seafood platter is huge, so if you stuffed your face as I did with an appetizer you will probably not have much room for it. Definitely worth it though!
This place is a hidden treasure. Absolutly the best meal and service Ive had in Lynchburg, VA. Visited while on a business trip on a Monday night. Place was relatively empty place. But its a Monday sooo... What wasnt missing was flavor, portions, and service. My server was sweet, kind, pleasant and on top of her game. Food was server quickly and hot. The Fish Bites appetizer was absolutly delicious and filling...too good to share. I also had the grilled chicken with rice and black beans entree. Again, a really good tasty meal with just the right amount of kick. This place keeps up this all-around quality, they will certainly stick around a long time!
Great service. Boneless wings were great. And the grilled chicken was really good. My daughter had the cheese cake and enjoyed it. Prices are very reasonable.
Get yourself a fried fish and fries for under 9 bucks, thats good value for money.
Service was excellent. Fried pickles and hush puppies excellent. We felt the food was bland and the shrimp were over cooked. I also enjoyed the environment. I will be trying it again but will not be eating seafood.
Food was excellent! Service was excellent! We sat on the deck as the weather was accommodating. I didnt care for the strong profanity used by a large group of guests there. Staff heard it but nothing done. Also wanted to enjoy the music but not so loud like at concert, so on the deck was a nice option. That was working fine until they opened a wall between the deck and the bar area. In addition to the extremely loud guests, some literally screaming and such, it was definitely time to leave. We couldnt even have a dinner conversation. 😩
Great tropical feel and food. Good portions, taste, and price.
So, the new menu could be a bit more detailed. The food was very good, arrived at the table hot & fresh, good flavor. Decor could use some TLC, along with the bathrooms. Mold in the toilet bowl & around faucet handles. Also a very slow draining sink. Dessert options were not many & pricey considering what you pay for an entree. Drink no longer included in the meal price. Still very good, overall. Meal for two, with added house salad & drinks, before tip was $30.
This place is always a good time!I have taken so many college friends and family friends here after being firstly introduced to this place by a family member. The new owner has made so many amazing changes that have truely livened up the lace with more than a fresh look. The drinks here are always good and the food better. While I definitely come here for drinks that fit my college student budget, the food satisfies on another level. Furthermore, they serve the best wings in town. They have rooms available to have separate events if you didnt want to reserve a few tables in the bar area. This place has gone from a dive to an amazing restaurant with a hometown feeling. Furthermore, Big Licks has a great selection of great live music thoughout the weekend. They offer an eclectic selection of musicians to suit everyones tastes. This place is my usual go to whenever I want to go out whether on a budget or a good time with close friend.
So much goodness on the menu. Gonna be back again soon.
Colorful tropical theme with outdoor covered porches and a smaller tiki bar hut. The hostesses were friendly though a menu couldnt be located until later. (They were busy.Once we found a seat in the bar area, we had to go back out front to have a hostess find us a waitress. We ordered two of the fried green tomatoes appetizer. Never received napkins or silverware, even after asking. Food was very bland. Unimpressive. It appears the only draw is whatever band is playing at the time. Thankfully there was an amazing guest singer who raged for a couple of songs! Definitely made the drive over worthwhile!
Historical Namesake!Big Lick Tropical Grill shares it’s name with Roanoke, VA. The town was called Big Lick in 1852 and was named for a large outcropping of salt which drew the wildlife to the site near the Roanoke River. Now about the food, what’s not to love! My favorite is the Chicken Mango Quesadilla, it’s child/Family friendly outside of rocking & grooving events. Two generous rooms are available for booking birthdays, anniversaries or shower events. These are great party rooms and the staff was friendly and well trained.
Great food. I was part of a hurricane cleanup with my team (football). We cleaned up thousands of dollars of wreckage out of peoples yards that they would of had to have paid ridiculous high amounts of money for. Started around 7-7:30 and ended around noon. When we got done, one of our coachs friends from high school had called him and invited him and our whole team who helped out to go eat here. We waited about 10-15 min as it was a big order, but we got our food nice and hot. It was very good, and filling. I went home content. Yall should definitely go here.
Not a huge variety on the menu, but Ive enjoyed every meal here. And for $8 You get a main entree, at least one side and a drink! I like to sit out on the huge deck on nice days and tackle The Big Fish, which is a plate filling portion of catfish done right. Some friends like the fish taco. Another favorite of mine are the pork chops. Yum. Its not a fancy place, but it has that comfortable atmosphere of a restaurant that knows what it is and likes it.
We love this restaurant! One of our favorite places to grab lunch. Their meals all include a soft drink. Food and service are very good. Prices on kids meals seem a little high...until the plate comes. Good amount of food, includes drink, and a scoop of ice cream. Restaurant can be a little hard to find if you dont know the area, but totally worth the effort!
Food is absolutely delicious, owner was very nice, but could use a more hospitable hostess, she put menus and silverware on table with a sourpuss look, no word and walked away. Very busy but great atmosphere. Waiter was busy but very pleasant!
