Counter-serve operation serving up everything from Korean bibimbop to wings & tacos.
The food was okay, but the experience was horrible. They barely spoke English at a restaurant clearly marketed toward the typical American. The wait was ridiculous. It was like theyve never served more than 3 tables before. My friend asked for a bubble tea. He had to ask for it again twice. He eventually went to get a refund and the cashier pretended to have no idea what he was talking about. I dont understand how this place has such a high rating.
I drove across town for Korean food, only to find that they have completely changed their menu and now serve Brazilian food instead. It would be nice if the owner would update their business description and remove the pictures of Korean dishes.
Looks good cant wait to try π I thought it was korean food until I saw it was now Brazilian but since I was already there I decided to order anyways. π€·ββοΈ
If youre looking for the Korean restaurant it is not here. Taking its place with the same name is a brazilian restaurant. First time in the other night I found myself the only on inside, a side from another man sitting at the counter who seemed to know an employee. i took his suggestion and tried the brazilian fried rice; I got shrimp. Im not sure what I was expecting for Brazilian fried rice, but I was disappointed. The taste was mediocre in my opinion. Also the shrimp had not been properly deveined. Material was left inside, which really put me off of my meal. Ate leftovers at home instead. Would not recommend the rice. Wait staff was friendly though.
Im still not sure how I feel about this place... lets dive in. My buddy Gustavo was in town and wanted to have some lunch so we figured "lets go to Marietta... they have a little bit of everything". I wanted some Korean so I suggested BIG JOY, their menu looks delicious! When I arrived Gustavo was already there and he asked "you look lost... you OK?", I said "yes... but I thought we were about to eat Korean food... this looks... Brazilian?". Sure enough, Big Joy used to be a Korean location but got taken over by this Brazilian restaurant and I guess they didnt bother with changing the name or much of the inside, just their menu. We are already there, might as well check out this place. I didnt recognize much on their menu so I asked for a salmon and Gustavo asked for a steak. We both wanted appetizers so we ordered these things that said BRAZILIAN BITES, I got chicken and beef while Gustavo ordered the cheese. The language barrier was difficult, and thats coming from two guys that speak Spanish!! We had a hard time understanding our waitress and she had a hard time understanding us but we got through it. Gustavo never got his cheese bites but he didnt get charged for them either and we were fine with this because the chicken and beef were plenty. Think of like a delicious hush puppy except they are filled with a tasty beef or chicken, thats what these were. Fried very well and paired well with the spicy/fruity tasting sauce they came with. Gustavos steak and eggs looked amazing and for $13 he said he would consider coming back for it. I think he got 3 pieces of steak that were cooked well and marinated perfectly. The rice and beans were a good compliment to the steak along with the fried egg. I ordered the Salmon which caught my eye because it said it came in a passion fruit sauce and passion fruit juice is one of my favorite drinks. Although you get more for your money with the steak the salmon with rice and black beaks and broccoli was delicious!! That passion fruit sauce went perfectly with the salmon, rice and black beans. I could have done away without the broccoli as it was just steamed, nothing special. As we were finishing up and I start looking around, I noticed I didnt see a health score... so I ask my waitress "what is your health score rating?" but she didnt understand me after a few attempts so she said "boss" pointed at the kitchen and walked away. She came back with a gentlemen who asked how he could help me, so I said "just wondering what your health score is", which he replied "health score?". I said "yes, what is your health score?".... he finally said "no health score here" and started walking away.... OKEY DOKEY... I thought "I enjoyed your meal very much, everything was delicious but I hope I dont get sick of this....". My question would be, would you go back to a location that was delicious but has no health score or any knowledge of what a health score is? Im tempted to say "yes... yes I would" because their food was great, but I dont think I could. Let me know if you stop by this location and try them out!! If they have a health score please let me know so I can pay them a visit again.EDIT: Their salad was NASTY... the lettuce tasted nasty and whatever was in it was nasty... never again!!
Great food and sweet people. Lots of food too and a good price~
Well we were surprised as well thinking we were going to the Korean restaurant. The place is now Brazilian food. We stayed anyways and ordered some lunch. We thought it was really good. We ordered the salmon with a mango sauce and yummy steak with a fried egg on top. The fries, beans and rice were good too
Hungry for the amazing bibimbap that we had just 3 months ago, only to find out that it is a Brazilian restaurant now. They kept the name and the great Google rating.
Sadly, this is not the place we once knew. That wonderful Korean restaurant leaves behind its name only with new owners. I was crushed to discover the new Brazilian restaurant in the same place Id go to watch Kpop videos and sip on cinnamon tea. Im giving this 1 star because the OG Big Joy is gone without a trace and Im heartbroken. Where did you go? What happened to the previous owners? Let us know where youve gone. π’π’π
The original Big Joy Korean grill is closed, and I loved that place . A new management has bought the place keeping the same name offering Brazilian cuisine. The place was deserted which should have been a red flag. Still I decided to give a chance for a new business- big mistake! The guy took 20 mins and cooked up a steamed mashup of rice, beans and some beef strips. Was horrible, and paid 15 bucks for that, which included 2 bucks for water
I love the concept of Big Joy. A Korean fast food, I love the cuisine and make Korean food constantly at home. Id say the food here is nothing special. Ive made bulgogi better at home. You cant really mess up the bibimbap, and the egg that comes along with as to be sunny side up and they dont always get it cooked to perfection. The decor is pretty standard, if I had to compare it to a restaurant its very casual like a Chipotle. The setup is self service but Ive had them come out to serve the dish when they arent busy. I just went here once and I didnt feel the need to visit again.
If you were going to scroll past this restaurant to move onto another one, youβre making a bad decision. This place is fantastic. The food is surprisingly fresh and healthy. The menu is simple which make is easy to make a decision for those indecisive people like me. Great Korean dishes!
Heard so much about Big Joy had to try it out today. First off this place is very clean, its spotless. The staff were so nice helping figure out what I wanted to eat. First time in I was clueless but they took good care of me. I had the Hot Stone Pot Bibimbap with the beef, 2 Korean tacos, and Dumpling. Got to try a good variety and I have to say the food was fresh and high quality. Got to get their Kimchi to it is some of the best I had anywhere. Overall Im this is a 5 star place to eat and it is very inexpensive. You cant go wrong with Big Joy! Its now in my restaurant rotation!
I had the hot stone bibimbop and it was fantastic! The restaurant was clean and the food came out quick. We stayed long enough, we even got a little watermelon dessert :The Korean music playing in the background was just the right volume and added to the quaint ambiance. I will definitely be coming back.
AMAZING!!! The food was fantastic and super fresh. The owner and staff were very friendly. It will definitely be our No.1 stop when we make it up to Marietta. The dumplings and tacos were so good!
My visit for a quick dinner turned into the best eating experience I have ever had in my life. The hot stone bibimbap was the best Ive ever had and the portions were large. The owner was so nice and made sure everything was how we wanted it. And to top that, the prices were great. I will definitely be back.
My food was edible but disgusting. I went with a group and we tried four different things. All gross. Vegetables were soggy and honestly I had more soggy vegetables than meat or rice. And I donβt know what my meat was, but one of my friends ordered steak and I ordered beef and both of our meals came with some sort of βmeatβ that looked exactly the same. It had a really strange taste. Also, the employees were really weird as well. I wouldnβt eat here again if someone paid me to.
Ate here for my birthday. Service was fast, food was delicious, and the atmosphere was very quiet. They also have a flat-screen that plays K-pop music videos.
I loved the food! Customer service was really good! I had the Hot Stone Bibimbap and was super pleased. Get the spicy and house sauce combo for some great flavors. I will definitely be going back.
I had pork hot stone pot bibimbap & my dinner partner had beef stone pork bibimbap. Great tasting, fresh food with a lot of veggies. And the passion fruit bubble tea was fun & delicious as well!
Great Korean bibimbap and kimbap. Good lunch prices, although selection can be a bit small. What they do have they do well and tastes great. Fast. The atmosphere is authentically Korean with K-pop playing at all times. Staff is friendly but be ready to contend with english as a second language.
Family stop in for Korean-Style food while in town. Had the bipimbap in the stone bowl. The meat was tender and the veggies were fresh and tasty. My wife and kids enjoyed their meal as well. Definite stop if you are in the area. Plenty for the dollar.
Just plain delicious. You have to go I always get the same thing so I can not say much bibimbap hot stone with house sauce and egg over easy. Other folks go with me and order all kinds of good stuff but I love my go to dish there and canβt bring myself to order anything else.
The food was good but wait staff didnt know the menu well enough.Came back and things were much better. The food was still very good and the server knew the menu well. He walked my son through the ordering process to where he was very comfortable and was quite happy ordering. This place allows you to make any sort of combination of meal type, main starch (rice, noodles), protein, veggies then sauce. All this at a good price. Cant beat it!
I happen to find this place online when I was looking for a Korean restaurant while visiting family. The food was absolutely awesome!!!! I have been to a number of Korean restaurants, but this one is the best.π€© The staff members are sincerely friendly and really love what theyβre doing. You can see the joy the chef has for cooking, especially as he looks for those eating to have that same joy when they taste and eat the food. Thatβs just genuine to me. Not commercialized like so many restaurants. I really like how they offer many options for those who may like the atmosphere there, but may be a bit shy about eating Korean food. They even ask if itβs your first time so eating Korean food and make suggestions as to what to get. I think itβs not just to make sure you donβt waste food or money, but to truly enjoy your meal. Ahhh.... how happy I would be if we had one back home!!! Iβd probably live there...... Anywho, if youβre reading this review, donβt take my word for it. Plllllleeeeease go and try it for yourself. I will surely make a special trip to Big Joy.
The food was awesome and the service was even better! Im a bit of a foodie and I took two picky eaters out to lunch. Amazingly all three of us were happy, and that almost never happens.
Food was good!! Atmosphere was good for a afternoon lunch!! However there was a little of wait, they were backed up on orders.I ordered the Hot Stone Bibimtap which came with Miso soup. I was a little taken aback when I received the soup after my meal was almost complete.
Food and service are great. Wife had the squid with rice. Good amount of squid and not too spicy. I had the burrito. Tasted good but on the smaller side. Bubble tea is just ok.
Stone pot bibimbap is great. Letting it sit for a minute really gets that rice nice and crispy. Give it a shot!
We had hot stone pot bibimbap and spicy squid over brown rice and they are delicious! The place is clean and not crowded during weekdays.
Food was absolutely amazing. Order takes a good 20-30minutes to get (including appetizer). Customer service from most employees was freaking on point except for a couple who are just awful. Couldnt explain the menu or what the foods were or anything!! Id recommend it if you are mad patient!
I had never heard of Bibimbap until I checked this place out, now Im hooked! The stone bowl Bibimbap is now my comfort food, and its really healthy to boot. Check it out!
Delicious Korean food! I had the hot pot rice bowl with beef and it came with miso soup and kimchi. I have not tried the Mexican side of their fusion yet.
My first time here and it was amazing. Food was SO good. Cant go wrong with the hot stone pot bibimbap. Employees were helpful and very friendly. I will definitely be coming again.
Big Joy is my new favorite place. It was my first time trying Bibimbap, and it was absolutely wonderful. Bubble tea is phenomenal! The workers are polite and pleasant. Its a blessing to find Big Joy so close to home rather than traveling all the way to Buford highway to fulfill my cravings for Korean food. Definitely would recommend to my family and friends!
I usually find myself on Buford Hwy or in Duluth if Im craving Korean, or anything Asian for that matter. I had no idea that Cobb has like 3 Korean joints. I recently checked this place out. Love the ambience, lots of light. I love the setup as well where u order up front and they bring the food out to you. So far Ive had the stone bibimbap and regular bibimbap. I like them both; have tried with different meats and tofu as well. Its so yummy it feels impossible to order anything else. Nxt time I will attempt the tacos. Regarding their bubble teas...if you want fresh, this is the place to get it. I was wondering why they took so long one time when I ordered coconut, I mean,he was extracting it in the back! As someone who grew up in the tropics, I recognize that taste. I would def recommend this place. Yes it is a bit on the pricey side, but that is a non-issue if you go during lunch hours. Oh,and they are so friendly and so nice!!!
This place is pure joy. The food was great and the service was amazing. I would recommend to every to come. Sorry for the picture of the empty plate, that was the only time I could take take a picture cause the food was just that good.
Awesome experience!! My husband and I both ordered the hot pot bibambap with a side of kimbap. Generous portions, healthy and delicious. I wasnt a fam of the kimchi, but other than that, it was a great first experience for Korean bbq! They have lots of flavors for bubble tea as well. Also enjoyed the KPop that plays while you eat. Looking forward to coming back!
I have only eaten the stone bibimbap in all of my visits to Big Joy, but its so good I cant help but order it every time! Great place, laid back atmosphere, and friendly staff. The owner takes great pride in his restaurant, and it really shows.
The owner is here every day and is very nice. I like the food so much, I ate here twice in one day. While its possible that someone in atlanta makes a better bubble tea, I have yet to find it. Boba is also available in many different flavors which I like quite a bit.
I think Big Joy is one of my favorite, and has best Korean restaurant in Atlanta. Not having to drive all the way to Duluth is a big big plus.{rice is great compare to any other korean restaurants as just regular bi bim bap would cost around 13 bucks in Duluth (here, around 9)Try their hot stone pot bi bim bab. It was awesome and it was one of the best I ever had in the States. And for the drinks, ask them to make honey dew smoothie with tapioca in it. they may have charged few more quarters but it was more than worth it.Only flaw is they dont open on Sunday like chick fil a. and lunch can be super busy with all the office people, try to go in after 2PM to get the cool and enjoy the Kpop while u sip on them chills
This place is wonderful. Everything I try there is great. The bibimbap, kimbap, ramyun, miso soup, kimchi, etc they are all very delicious. The service is outstanding! I go here very often and I am never disappointed. If you havent tried Big Joy please do.
Fantastic place. All the reviews are right about the quality of the food. The stone bowl bibimbap is as good as any other Ive ever had. My only complaint is a combination of environment and service. The location feels like a fast casual place but it took 15+ mins for the food to come out. It was completely laid back but the owner took care of us. Just wish we knew what to expect before arriving.
Ive been here twice. *First time was to try their bubble tea (bc no where other than buford hwy and downtown has itand I love bubble tea!The second time, today, to eat dinner and try another bubble tea. (Which was delicious mango! )I had the bibimbap with beef and veggies and hot sauce. It was very good and while a little different than what Im used to at my korean restaurants, it was still very yummy.Love that they have a lot of vegan options for my husband, and regular stuff for me.The food took a long time to make and the employee began mopping with a very potent smelling floor cleaner around us before the restaurant officially closed. ..so I was eating and breathing in bleach and cleaner...it was horrible.I hope this doesnt happen next time.
Excellent lunch spot! Build your own tacos or burritos. Korean and Hispanic food fused together, with plenty of other things to try.Get your bbq pork tacos with cucumber kimchi, sweet coleslaw, cilantro and a spicy house sauce as an example of the flexibility of your creationsHome made teas are great but on the super sweet side so consider watering it down a little.A hand full of items are more expensive than i would like (boba milk tea)Lastly they have 1.50 tacos on Wednesday which is a great deal
Very Good Food!! Im African American and grew up with a Korean best friend. I have had Korean food for years and this place is very close to what I am used to eating. The food has a very fresh taste. Great Customer Service Also!!
After reading the reviews, hubby and I decided to try them for a quick bite. We ordered the Bibimbap with beef and a kiwi spinach smoothie. The bibimbap was average. Ive had much better at other Korean restaurants. The smoothie as good but a little sweeter then expected. It was pricey at $5 and it was no bigger than my normal $3/3.50 smoothies. My experience at Big Joy did not leave me wanting to come back, but I would eat here if Im in the neighborhood and someone suggested them.
Great place to grab some lunch with friends. The food is very good, especially the bibimbop and the fried dumplings. The service is excellent and the staff are very friendly. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Been eating here off and on for a while and I cant get enough of their bibimbap. Its so delicious, and the staff is always very friendly. If you can handle it, give their kimchi a try. I usually get a double helping when I eat there.
I wish I would have discovered it sooner. Came in and had some freshly made bibimbop (stir fryto go. They were fast, and it was delicious. I will definitely be back to check out their Korean tacos.
