Grange Rd, Biddulph, Stoke-on-Trent ST8 7SD, Leek
National Trust site inspired by the East, with a dahlia walk and plants from round the world.
Loved our visit, gardens are beautiful! Plenty to walk around & see, easy to navigate with signs- staff friendly. Plants & garden decor for sale & gift shop. Plenty of car parking spaces- no waiting times.
Beautiful gardens and well worth a trip. It was especially pretty with all of the leaves changing. Very helpful staff, especially the guy in the shop. I dont know his name, but he had tatts. Brilliant customer service.
Outstanding place that I visited today with family. There is garden and palace, from which we started our journey and next on your way are Egyptian pyramid, Chinese garden with pond and fish, rockworks, geological gallery with fossil display, monkey puzzle trees. I love the Dahlias garden around the palace and all trails and tracts for fun play for everyone. There also is small cafe or place for picnic.
Beautiful garden, went in September so the Dahlia Walk was at its peak. There are quite a few uneven steps here without rails & no easy accessibility to parts of the inner garden. Parts of The Chinese Garden are currently being restored (Sept 2022but you can still access it.
Beautifully kept gardens with seasonal variations that are stunning. The Dahlia garden is spectacular at the moment (September). There is a cafe indoors and a smaller coffee/ice cream room around the corner from it.There are walks around the grounds and you can buy fish food (£1 a bagfor children to feed the gigantic carp in the lake.
Great gardens with lovely flowers.Theres a China garden & Lake & a fossil Hall. Nice long walks too & a well stocked tea room cafe to finish.
A beautiful house and gardens, lots of areas of kids and adults alike to explore. Nice picnic area and beautiful tea rooms to use while at the house
Beautiful well kept gardens plenty of photo opportunities and a fantastic walk. There are lots of narrow walkways and steps people with mobility issues or wheelchairs etc will struggle to access a lot of the areas.Conversely it isnt the longest walk I would plan something else if you are traveling a distance to visit
Lovely gardens with an interesting history to learn about during a visit.Formal gardens, woodland walks or just chill on one of many lawns and seats around.Childrens activities were on the tennis lawn and there was a woodland walk with natural play area.Refreshments are available with indoor and outdoor seating.Due to the geography of the location there are many steps. Large scooters like mine are restricted to lower areas, though smaller scooters, wheelchairs and other mobility aids could get further. Some areas are only accessible with care using walking sticks, plenty of places to rest if distance a problem.Highly reccomended day out for all the family to enjoy.
Beautiful place lots to see and quite a bit of activities for children as you walk around, best for me was the Chinese and Egyptian areas of the gardens and the shear size of some of the fantastic trees. Would have given 5 but the refreshments slightly pricy.
Wonderful collection of plants from all around the world. A geological museum too bridging 7 days of Creation with geology. Lots of steps and narrow walkways.
Fantastic place, friendly staff beautiful gardens truly a great day out. If you love flowers, hidden features, wildlife and nature then this is a place to go.
A lovely garden. Its divided up into different styles of garden. We visited as a family and my kids liked exploring, and the Chinese garden. We had cake and tea in the cafe which offered a good selection of hot and cold food.
Beautiful gardens, you can get lost for hours just wondering around taking in all the different colours and smells of gardens. Looking forward to coming back in the autumn to see the different colours.
A lovely National Trust place to visit with all the facilities youd expect, good for all ages with a fair amount to do and see, lots of colourful flowers to look at when in bloom. I had a great time. One downside to my visit was it being a little tricky to find the correct entrance to the place, set the carpark for the area on Google maps if youve not been before.
Exceptional and beautiful gardens but much much more to explore has to be one of the best places to visit " stunning hats off to all the staff and volunteers well done 5*
Beautiful place. Part of National trust. Some gentle climbing, steps etc. lots of gardened passages to explore and surrounded by stunning scenery with a backdrop of a magnificent building. Toilets and free parking available with a shop for soy and a cafe. Indoor and outdoor dining areas.
The beautiful dahlia is blooming. Not only the flowers are attractive, but also the buds that look like dragon eggs. Other colorful blossoms surprise you alongside your stroll too. The Geological museum and the Kitchen garden are the extra bonuses to your trip, do not miss it. We arrived around at 12:30 on Friday, then parked at the overflow parking site.
Beautiful grounds, lovely weather.Quite a small garden in comparison with other National Trusts weve visited, but well laid out and a joy to walk through.
Lovely enjoyable morning strole around the gardens. Our daughter additionally enjoyed the games available. It is also good to see that the app clearly states dogs are not allowed to avoid any disappointment for dog owners. As a local dog owner we left ours at home a few hours (making sure we did not leave her long). We will definitely be back again making the most of a local attraction to ourselves worth visiting. If you are visiting Staffordshire please consider visiting the attraction.
The National Trust Biddulph Grange Gardens is a testament to the hard work of its admin and gardening staff. Its a great place to meander around with lots of nooks and cranies to investigate and admire the mix of planting and architecture working in harmony. Its cafe was busy and we enjoyed our mandatory cream tea but also observed others enjoying their hot meals too. Although the house is a private residence only, much of its splendid external architecture and features are on show. I would certainly recommend this outstanding example of Victorian outdoor splendour and will most certainly visit again.
Beautifully well kept gardens, vegetable patches, lawns and Lake. Wonderful Large sized garden with a beautiful smell of flowers. The staff at the entrance were friendly. The entrance fee was £11 per person and parking is free. You are free to explore the large gardens and there is some information about the history in the house and the Cheshire Cottage. The gardens take inspiration from different cultures such as China, Italy and Egypt. It was a very enjoyable walk and it is also worth taking the time to feed the fish in the lake.
Wow Garden. Views, walks. The hall is closed for visitors, split for private flats now, but looks superb outside. Cafe, garden shop, all you need to spend 2-4 h
Really interesting garden lots of levels and hideaways to explore.well worth a visit. Will go back. Some seats around for you to sit on and take a break.
Wonderful garden, Chinese Pagoda and garden the best bit. lovely lake with amazing big carp. Would recommend coming when dalias are in flower. We missed spring flowers and not much in flower in June.
Amazing gardens to explore for adults and children. Could spend hours and still not see it all. Ample parking not too far from the gardens. Shop, cafes, second hand book shop and toilets all close together. A brilliant day out
Would have got 5 stars if better paths and more ramps. Superb gardens but even both cafe areas up steps. Nor really wheelchair accessible. Free car park with accessible spaces. Nb House not open to public. Lots of steps! Outdoor seating available.
Biddulph Grange is a beautiful National Trust estate with exquisite gardens of various varieties. It is a worthwhile place to visit. The house is still a private residence and consequently not open to the public. However the gardens will give you plenty to do.
A very interesting, wonderful place to visit. We walked around all the parts of the gardens and they were so beautiful.
Wonderful gardens built in the mid-late 19th century with industrial money - sending plant hunters worldwide to find exotic plants for research and show-off value. A must visit place.
Decent teashop with inside & outside seating. Gardens are a delight - best in May with a great show of rhododendrons & azaleas, but some great trees & shrubs & can buy fish food from the shop to feed the Carp. Quite small so youll probably spend 1 - 2 hours max there, but well worth it.
This is one of the finest gardens in the country. The clever design offers a surprise around every corner. Children will love the tunnels and climbing to the viewing towers as well as the play trail. This should be on everyones list to visit.
Ive always liked walking round the gardens, looking at the changes each season brings. Its a lovely way to clear the head, if on your own, or a nice way to spend time with friends. The cafe is lovely, and theres seating outside in good weather. I particularly like the long gallery with the fossils. Not sure how long its been there but a really nice addition.
Lovely place for a walk, didnt realise that spent there 4 hours. Brilliant idea with little shop with second hand books! 📚 Loads of colours, all sort of shades of green too! Definitely will be back in different time of year to see how the garden changed. Very friendly and helpful staff 😊 Plus lovely leek+potato soup in the cafe👌I think any words can give back the experience, photos will do more 😊 100% recommended 🤗
Last Friday, 15/04/22. A lovely day at National Trust Biddulph Grange, near Congleton. The gardens are a delight, lots of colour, the Chinese Garden is exceptional. The Dahlia Walk is currently the Tulip Walk 😁. Enjoyed tea & a Hot Cross Bun/Scone hybrid with a marmalade topping at the Camellia Tea Room with a delightful view over the gardens. Staff were friendly & helpful. A good day out 🤗.
Summary: Unfortunately, not worth going. Its amazing to me, how they have made a garden, with nothing interesting to look at, unless youre a fan of boxes of Kew hedging and tulips.Even a carpark with a flower bursting through, is more interesting than here. Also, unsuitable for prams and children, narrow tunnels, passages, dead ends and slippery stone steps. I saw many a parent, struggle and turn back down paths. All they would need to improve is much more plant diversity. Such a shame, as it has potential.
If gardens are your thing, then this is the place for you! Lots of small (ishindividual arenaa based around a different part of the world. China Egypt and Scotland to name but a few. Good parking and two tearooms! Bit pricey to get in, hence the loss of a star, and not all areas are wheelchair accessible.
Really lovely gardens. A small garden by national trust standards but plenty to see. You need to be fairly fit and mobile to make the most out of this garden. Staff very helpful.
Beautiful gardens to wander around, getting lost sometimes. Not as large as we first expected but definitely one of our favourites to come back to.House is never open as it doesnt belong to the National Trust.Cafe is amazing & great service (above expectations- the one-pot or soup is always the way to go.Worth visiting at different times of the year to see the different flowers blooming.
Beautiful gardens, and big enough for a nice walk without being too massive. Lovely cafe, and also a second hand bookshop. Plenty of parking available. Lovely for an afternoon out.
Beautiful! Plenty to explore so make sure you get a map of the garden. Weather wasn’t on my side so had to leave early. I can imagine spring/summer to be exceptionally beautiful with flowers blooming. Free for NT members. Clean individual toilet cubicles at the entrance.
Beautiful place. Alot of areas closed due to maintenance and we did go out of main season but Im sure that when the main season starts and all of the work is complete it will be completely fabulous! Cant wait to go again....and when the weather is better 😀
Great garden with various different sections and themes, visited in in February half term so a lot of plants were being planted for spring/summer. I imagine it’s even better then.
Such a beautiful garden. Lots to explore, and a great section for the kids.It really feels like you go on an adventure. We took a picnic, plenty of little spots to sit and have a cup of tea.Not too long to walk the kids (ours are 5 and 7).There can be some areas with lots of steps or uneven flooring so not sure a pram or wheelchair would get around too easily but lots of nice flat walks to explore. We didnt realize there was a tea room, but did stop in the cafe which overlooked the gardens and was set in a stunning 18th century drawing room (which also had a small arts and crafts table for the kiddies).Highly recommend for a family afternoon out. We did the walk in about 3 hours with a stop for coffee.
A stunning place with surprises around every corner. Having not read any reviews beforehand I only expected a short walk around woodland and gardens. I didnt expect the tunnels, the winding off-piste footpaths and interactions with architecture. My favourite NT site so far and my most local too. Looking forward to coming back when its all in bloom.
Such a wonderful garden to explore for the young and old, no matter what the season. The various themed sections all connected using secret tunnels and paths. Beautifully kept by the staff and a pleasure to wander around. The house itself is privately owned but dont miss the paleontology exhibit in the back of the grounds, part of the original estate.
We loved this garden. Lots of activities for kids, games like throwing wellies and soft balls left there for families to enjoy. (Sanitiser provided to use!)Love the little caves for kids to walk around. We loved climbing the rocks in the China garden. Beautiful and colorful pictures in this area.Lovely tearoom/shop. They also have a second hand book shop.
Beautiful gardens - visited early November, possibly the best time to see the Chinese garden with amazing autumn colours. Lots of narrow gravel paths and steps, wear sensible shoes. Great day out. Well worth a visit.
Friendly welcoming staff who’ve put on fabulous Halloween displays in various locations around the gardens.Nice touch for families of which there were many in this half-term holiday.A different time of year to our previous visit we nonetheless enjoyed our time here in spite of the occasional showers where we were able to find suitable cover and shelter whilst also enjoying our surroundings.National Trust - Little Moreton Hall nearby is also possible if time allows too.
First visit today & really impressed with the gardens. Met up with family & had a bit of lunch first. Halloween trail & lovely to see the children all dressed up in their outfits. If national trust members its free entry. Plenty of parking as well
