Great little place to visit, our favourite place in the city after Registon. A lot quieter and less repaired which is very nice, we stopped to relax here for an hour and have a look around at the beautiful mosaics. It’s certainly worth coming to. 30,000 som for foreigners so not much to get in.

Grand architecture worthy of an empire, compared to the other sights in Samarkand you can see in which bad shape the buildings were before restoration at some spots. Otherwise totally with visiting and spending about 30.000 Uzbek Som for the foreigner tourist ticket professional camera fee is about 40.000 at the time of writing.

Amazing view and beautiful place to visit

Babi Khanym mosque is named under the name of Amir Timur’s wife. The mosque is really beautiful from inside and outside. It has been renovated many times. So, what you see now is not the old version of the mosque.

Looks marvelous from outside, but obce you come inside its worse. The best perspective from lying next to chaihana or from Hazrat-Hyzr. Great, huge entry gate is the best part of the complex.

Beautiful monument

Beautiful mosque with a really interesting history (the local guides at the front of the mosque are very knowledgeable if you get one). Nearly 70% reconstructed versus the original, which was destroyed in an earthquake. The only reason I give 4 stars is because compared to other sites (Registan), there isnt nearly as much to see for the price. You can make it a very quick stopover (20-30 minutesif you dont get a guide.

A magnificent temple complex built by order of Amir Temur. One of the largest mosques in the world. It is covered with beautiful tile patterns with a predominance of blue tones, like all buildings of that time.

Overpriced: go to Registan instead and just watch the nice facade of Bibi-Khanym from the outside. The inside doesn’t offer anything extra. Also, they charge extra for photos although there isn’t much worthy of being photographed (also, nobody checks whether you’ve got a camera permit).Most guides talk about the 9-pillar construction granting women with fertility; it’s locked behind a glass casing so you won’t be able to see anyone going through these pillars either.

Old mosque construction was done in 14 th century.Great structure but now looks that it was repaired again as one side was broken,walls looks ruptured and also main entrance was looks that may it will be down as due to rain water.other structure was broken as its not maintained properly by time.Nice and amazing specially main entrance was too tall and big.lot of tourists there.nice experience.

The name of Bibi-Khanym Mosque is very poetic as well as a legend, related with its construction. By the legend the mosque was built by the Tamerlanes favorite wife, Bibi-Khanym, in honor of his return from a trip to India. According to her aim the mosque was planned to be the most grandiose creation of Samarkand. An architect, leading the construction of the mosque, fell madly in love with the beautiful queen, and delayed the completion of work in any possible way. Bibi Khanum was furious with the delay, as Timur had to come back very soon and the building still was not ready. When the queen asked the architect to hurry with the construction of the mosque, the architect stated a condition that the building would be ready in time, if she allowed him to kiss her.

Destroyed and collapsed for several decades, Bibi-Khanym Mosque now sons again with great, ancient beauty. Recommended to visit!

This place is beautiful and a wonderful testament to UNESCO Heritage Sites. Im a world history teacher touring Uzbekistan with my history teacher and our daughter. We loved seeing the site in the various stages of restoration. There are three buildings on site. One is i pretty bad shape, you are not allowed to enter it. One is mid restoration, and one is restored. My pic in the middle is what the buildings looked like before the restoration project began.

Its amazing place.One of the best architecture built in great taimur era.Visitors should visit before 6pm.

A beautiful monument, especially when you know the history behind it. Located within walking distance from registan square, its also near the market, so it has a very easy access. I dont remember how much exactly i paid for entry but it wasnt really expensive and it was valid for some time, so i did return to see the mosque before it closed. While youre inside, theres actually not much to do other than enjoying the mesmerizing beauty of a piece of history. It wasnt too crowded as well so i really enjoyed it.

Very beautiful and majestic ensemble. Went on a tour with my friends friend who was a local resident in Samarkand and Muslim. When we went inside the altar and he prayed while I sat on the bench nearby. I did feel the Holy Spirit presence and I instantly got uplifted for the entire day, even though I was pretty exhausted. I am Christian by the way.Truly the holy place!

This site feels a bit more authentic than some of the other sites in Samarkand, likely due to its largely pre-restoration state. The plants growing out of the domes are a testament to its more raw state. This actually adds to its charm, given that the rest of the city can feel a trite artificial at times.

Big monumental buildings, not completely restaurated. Interesting story about the main wife of Emir Timur and the architect of the mosque. I would recommend to hire a guide for visiting Samarkand.

This place is amazing, you finish your visit in 10 min. Why?! Because there is only one monument and 2 building that have nothing inside. You wonder why 5 stars, because the guide is kind and nice but Not free.Hope you enjoy your visit

Fantastic mosque with a super large and intricate wall inside. Worth going to for sure. Wasn’t very crowded either at 4 pm - almost had the whole place to ourselves.

Lovely place, beautiful architecture with a lot of history involved, from what I remember it was built by Timur the Conqueror using architects from conquered lands, a true testament to his reign. It served as one of the most beautiful and prestigious sites in the world.

Biwi khanum mosque built during the period when Taimur was invading india. the legend goes the architect fell in love with Biwi khynam Taimurs Chinese wife when Taimur was away busy in invading india , he forced the queen to give a kiss if she wanted this building to be complete in time before Taimur Returns , On return Taimur could see the kiss marks on Biwi khanu and in rage he executed the architect with his own hands. It was the biggest mosque of Islamic mosque in those days . this mosque is located near Registon square. There is big Quran stand inside the center courtyard made of stone.The building was slightly damaged due to Earth quakes , restoration is going on.

Spectacular buildings and courtyard. This must have been a truly magnificent place in its heyday. The old mosque is boarded off as it is in a sad state with lots of cracks unfortunately. The entrance to this is awesome and very high and elaborately decorated. I liked the quirky statue of the Koran holder and the ladies crawling underneath it in the belief that it helps with lots of problems.

Impressive mosque and the internal Madras.
