A 0.9 mile drive from Preston Park, this Victorian hotel is 7.5 miles from Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art and 10.5 miles from the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. The modern, custom-designed rooms feature free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffeemaking facilities. Suites add separate seating areas, while some have 4-poster beds. There's free parking, a restaurant, a bar and a lush garden, plus an indoor heated pool, a hydrotherapy spa, a sauna and treatment rooms. Other amenities include a fitness centre and 4 meeting rooms.
Great value for money! Me and my daughter went for her 12th birthday as she wanted to do something more grown up. We opted for a package deal. The room was very clean, comfy and nicely decorated. The afternoon tea & breakfast was amazing, plenty of choice. The disappointment was the pool was shut and the jacuzzi wasnt working and it was the main part of our trip, however it couldnt be helped and the spa facilities looked really good so we hope to return in the future to use them. Theres plenty of parking available. And the staff were all very helpful and friendly.
the spa was lovely but only 2 loungers available which were always taken. I had to therefore sit on wicker chairs which were uncomfortable as missing their cushions.in terms of my room, was looking forward to a hot deep bath. the water was tepid and only enough to fill a 3 inch bath before it was stone cold. this was in the evening and the following morning, very disappointing. I mentioned this on checkout but got no interest from the reception staff. not good customer service, I expected better.
This is apparently a continental breakfast!!
Loved the sauna, pool, hydrotherapy baths and gym with gym classes. Top marks....
OK, so the rooms are a little tired but theyre in the process of redecoration. That to one side, the hotel restaurant was excellent and the staff, without exception were genuinely welcoming courteous and resolutely professional. In essence faultless. I arrived late on a Sunday night a cynic and left this morning singing their praises. Will visit again.
Quite a lovely place, although the WiFi can be a bit of a problem
Stayed 2 nights whilst working away. Lovely staff, great service . Food was lovely and was good value for cost. Gym and spa facilities are very good also .room was very clean but could with an upgrade but everything worked OK.
Its a nice place for a small quiet wedding,The staff get there jobs done, and most of the time are very polite and helpful,The gardens could do with an overhaul, but not a bad hotel all told.
Nice old house but tiny rooms, site build is a bit cramped with the extra buildings crammed in. When we were there there were no gym or pool facilities open, back garden was spacious but scruffy. TV service was limited due to a fire at the local broadcast mast (not their faultbreakfast was included but small, like the rooms. And you only got 1 bloody sausage.
Fitness classes and spa here, if any body wants to join in classes, except non members.
Had a lovely afternoon tea which was served in the purple peacock lounge.
Spas decent, rooms are dated
Very old room with a mattress that felt like it was well past its use by date with springs that clunk into your back. Old and dated for me.
Food in the hotel was amazing!!! Caught me of guard to be honest. The stay was okay a bit dated, and noisy but still a nice stay, with really polite and helpful staff.
This hotel has incredibly thin walls. Expect to hear every whisper made by your neighbours as if they were speaking to you. Did not get the best nights sleep. Hotel staff were friendly and knocked off one of two nights from the price. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special. Wouldnt stay here again.
Ideal for what we needed for a family wake, great selection on the buffet
First and foremost the staff are friendly and work very hard. The room was spotless and we only had breakfast but it was good quality food . I would definitely recommend this hotel
Great hotel, staff very friendly and helpful.
This was the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in. The hotel, reception and corridors look very nice but the room experience was horrible. The room was small, it had Marks on the walls, skirting boards and ceiling, giving it a dirty grubby look. The tiling in the bathroom looks very amateur and there were holes in the bathroom ceiling over the shower, covered by tape. The towel rail and radiator were rusty. The view, looked out on to a dirty walkway, with windows to rooms opposite, so despite the room being extremely hot, I was reluctant to open the window. There was a loud whirring noise like an old boiler or something. The noise from other occupants in other rooms could clearly be heard. I will never stay there again
Went to a wedding here, nice place good food, friendly staff nice atmosphere, nice outside sitting area weather permitting
Great hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Nice leisure centre with reasonable sized pool. Good bar food with lots of choices including vegan and amazing Asian fusion restaurant. Family room is a very good size. Good location for walking into Yarm or to Preston Park and Museum.
Nice place, good price, great food, comfortable beds clean rooms, friendly helpful staff.Currently under renovation in areas so some things still slightly dated. But overall great hotel for good price
Room was extremely hot even though the heating was off. Make sure you get down for breakfast early as seating is limited and the wait for cooked food is very long
No bad, great staff. I will probably stay again when I am back here... Great WiFi reception if that means anything to you...
Staff very pleasant and helpful on arrival and departure and also throughout the length of my stay. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated.
Reasonable standard hotel in Eaglescliffe with clean rooms and good service. Needs a certain amount of modernisation/refurbishment and the leisure club is a little run down also.
Whilst the Hotel was more than adequate in terms of staff politeness and some facilities, it was certainly very over priced for what we had. I would not really recommend this, it was overrated, in particular the room which was outdated and lacked any character and incredibly old and potentially dangerous kettle. The pool appeared less like the pictures imply and the hydropool was not as clean as expected, feeling a little disappointed. The lounge and meal was fine although I feel an upset stomach may have coincided with having the salmon wrap.I have never complained or infact reviewed somewhere so badly before, but did not feel the hotel reflected the price we paid of £270 for 2 nights with dog.
I stayed at this hotel for a long period and the staff were all excellent, the cleaners were accommodating and the facilities are excellent and food is recommended and flexible to requests.
A very dated hotel, yet clean! The cooked breakfast wasnt up to much, quite expensive for what you get.
Very cosy and clean place to stay. Good for walks too. You are very close to Eaglescliffe station for good connectivity. Staff is superbly good... Cheers
Booked this hotel because of the Leisure facilities which are excellent Also 15/20 minute walk into Yarm which has excellent pubs &restaurants if you fancied a change for eating in the hotel
Stayed here for business like most of the guests. Always get great service, very friendly staff. The food is fantastic, havent had a bad meal yet! Havent found the time to use the spa facilities yet however colleagues I was staying with highly recommended it. Will be staying there again.
Would highly recommend this hotel! The staff were fantastic and so helpful and the hotel is so well looked after. The food was lovely and the pool made our stay even better.
A very clean, comfortable and friendly hotel. We were very happy with the room and would stay again. Excellent service and good value for money too.
This is the 3rd visit to this hotel. Every visit has been a positive and happy experience. The hotel is spotlessly clean as are the rooms. The food us always hot and served by excellent staff. The bar is always clean, well presented and staffed by friendly bar staff.More than happy to return.
Lovely hotel, nice amenities and a good little bar to boot, what more do you need
Stayed for a day. A wedding reception was happening so loud music and drunken voices carried throughout the night until the early morning hours. Was quite hot so had to have the window open because there wasn’t any air conditioning. Hardly slept. Shower in the bathroom was a weak spray, the toilet was so close to the wall the flush handle scraped against it trapping my hand at one point.Breakfast was poor, extremely basic and no healthy options so the only thing we had was a coffee. Which was cheap filter coffee that didn’t even perk us up. Had to go to Costa and get a real coffee.Later, after checking out we were informed that we needed to pay for our dog’s stay and that they wanted an extra £15. We had already paid this and thankfully had the proof of the transaction to refer to on our bank details. We informed the hotel we’d already paid and after that was sorted out they weren’t exactly apologetic for the further hassle they caused us.Wouldn’t stay again.
Had full day spa access and afternoon tea for 2 booked as a present for our wedding anniversary. We were really looking forward to it as we have never done this before. I asked for information when making the booking and was told that we could use the pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and hydrotherapy pool any time throughout the day we had booked.Staff were polite and some were friendly and helpful. We were told when we got there shortly before 12:00 that there was a mother and babies swimming club starting at 12:30, which meant we would not be able to use the pool. What we were not told was that there were back to back swimming clubs and that we would not be able to use the pool at all that afternoon, or that the noise level from the instructors would make our "relaxing stay" less than pleasant. We spent 4 hours there and feel that we could have had a better experience at our local swimming baths. When getting changed after using the pool I used the ladies changing room but had to stand in the corner close to the lockers, with my clothes balanced on my bag to avoid them getting wet on the floor, as all the benches were taken up by the mothers getting their tired and crying children ready after the swimming club (there were 8 babies and toddlers, bags and mothers using the facilities. There are no individual changing rooms only 1 communal area, which was very busy that Friday afternoon. We were asked where we would like to take our afternoon tea and were encouraged to have it by the pool as there was a wedding taking place and it would be rather crowded in the reception areas. In spite of the plastic tables and chairs, this would have been acceptable if not for the noise from the swimming clubs and instructors but I cannot recommend it as I feel it would have been much better to have eaten while relaxing in comfort in the hotel. The afternoon tea was presented nicely and tasted mostly okay, however the scone was not properly cooked and was so doughy in the middle it was inedible. The pleasant young man who brought it apologised for the long wait wed had in being served. There are no grounds to walk around. No direction was given as to where to park for the leisure club so we parked in the disabled bay at the front which meant we had to walk right through the hotel, not a problem unless you have limited mobility.I have given a 2 star rating because the place was clean and 2 of the staff made us feel welcome but I strongly feel that we should have been given better guidance and information to make the best choices for us, both when making the booking and on the day.
Breakfast was ok but it runs out quite fast. The rooms are not too big but you get a lot of utility in them
Breakfast was nice, lovely old part of tht original house, average hotel.
Great hotel excellent facilitys and the staff are on point deffo a must if your looking to stay near by
New décor has much improved the ambience of the ground floor. Staff are as always extremely friendly and helpful
The hotel itself is clean and fine, but the reception service was poor, the bar and reception staff were excellent but the everything in the restaurant is served on a roofing slate or a piece of wood or in a bucket! Please just put food on my plate. And give me a plate! My room was very very small and very very hot, even being a diamond select for life customer, I probably wouldnt stay again.
Friendly staff. Good location, close to eaglescliff train station. Its has free parking space. The coffee and food are ok.
Went for an 80th birthday served creamed tea was lovely and the weather was an added bonus only downside no one cleared the table so dirty crockery laying around otherwise an enjoyable afternoon
I use the gym and health club facilities. These are satisfactory but becoming tired and dated, and despite a week each year of the gym being closed (without refunds for members who pay to access the facilities), little progress or investment has been made over the past few years. Classes are varied and of excellent quality but are often cancelled, and do not run if few members attend. However, the staff are friendly & helpful, and despite the relatively high price, its location makes it convenient.
We had some lovely food however we waited over an hour for it and when we asked after 45 minutes how long it would be we were told they had someone off ill and it would be ready when its ready, very unprofessional although I would assume this was a one off.
Me and my husband got married here. It was lovely and the food was very nice. Very friendly people.
Great wee hotel, easy to find and well located. Beds were slightly worn down and bouncy, room condition was what we expected for price, bathroom great, good powerful shower/bath. The best part of this hotel is its leisure facilities. Great steam room and sauna, solarium and pool all brilliant for relaxing. Changing rooms look to have been recently renovated and were lovely. Would come back again.
The hotel hallway smelled musty. Internet access was non-existent. The connection dropped so often no work could be done from my room. The rooms could stand new carpet and wallpaper as well as some soundproofing. I could hear conversations in both rooms next to mine. One positive note, the room was clean.
