Beshoff Restaurant - Fish & chips shop in Dublin, Ireland
The food is not great if youre coming from other traditional fishing places. But the worse was the service. The blonde girl who serve meals in the noon was very unpolite. I was speaking Spanish with my friend, who doesnt speak English, and the waitress assumed both of us didnt understand her, and started making anti tourists comments to his job mate. I told her, of course, I could understand her, which is easy, because English is the most common language in the world. So, I wont return to that place, and I dont recommend it to Spanish tourists. Which its sad, because Dublin is full of Spanish and Latin people. Anyway, Dublin is a great place with great people.
They poisoned my friend here. She is extremely gluten intolerant (celiac disease). We ate and left the restaurant, and then spent the whole day after in the city trying to get her to stay alive. She was throwing up for hours, in huge stomach pain, pale and was fainting throughout the day. We had and exhausting day, and finally when we managed to get her home, after that traumatic experience, I immediately came into the restaurant to let them know what happened. They completely gaslighted me and without an apology or even a least bit of concern, empathy or humility towards what happened, they were just defending themselves and trying to make out a story why they did nothing wrong. Someone most surely made a mistake, because thats the only thing she ate, and it happened after us eating there. Very disappointed in the way the staff handled it, the tall blond guy was very rude and condescending, and was trying to convince me... That, I dont know, maybe that we were crazy or imagined the whole day. Never been gaslighted in my life like that. Disgraceful. Worst customer service experience ever.
NO NO BIG NO & I do not recommend going to this place. Garbage fish and chips but customer service was just ok. FOOD IS NOT GOOD AT ALL. Try other restaurants or take outs. Don’t waste your money
Don’t believe the hype :( no flavor, basic and the atmosphere is not great.
I come here a lot for Lunch, the staff are quite good and the quality of food is good.
I had the gluten free fish and chips and they were fantastic! They also had gluten free calamari!!!
Went here 3 times. The first time, I got the cod, which was fine. The second time, I wasnt hungry but went with my mother who was, and I just got a cappuccino, which was okay. They forgot about my mothers meal and we were waiting ages, had to call a waiter over. Also a middle aged man squeezed himself into our booth even though there were plenty of empty tables and I could see his fingers creeping towards my mothers handbag! Not the restaurants fault, but it was still crazy. Luckily she moved her bag and he went away. The third time, the sole was extremely greasy. So much so that I had to force myself to eat it and ended up puking it up a couple of hours later. Sole is a thin fish, so I suspect they just put in the same fryer they use for chunkier fish and it comes out greasy because its been cooked in way too much oil.I like the stained glass windows, but overall its a little shabby. Could do with a deep clean.
I had the worst fish and chips I ever experienced today 27Sept22 in Dublin in over 50 years. I ordered smoked fish and chips and what arrived seemed to be several times reheated burnt batter with 10% fish inside. Chips were on the cool side also. this is my first time to ever complain online as I would be normally very forgiving. I used to visit Besoffs over the years but never again never Again
vegan pie was OK. although it came with a side salad with yogurt dressing. they changed it for a salad with no dressing/spices whatsoever. so basically just leaves 😅fish & chips are average.
I had this 2 days in a row. Really fresh cod is hard to find. I Sat outside the 1 st day, upstairs the second day.
The staff were very friendly and the food was very good. However, €14 is too much to pay for so little fish, the decor is careworn and toilets were absolutely filthy and in need of gutting.
Everything is gluten free except for the burgers. Rapid service and it all tasted great. Nice seating on the second floor to people watch.
I’ve been here before and the food isn’t bad. But the waiter’s hand hygiene completely ruined my appetite. Shouldn’t be anywhere near food 🤢. I ended up having a few bites then leaving.
I had the cod and chips with mushy peas and onion rings. The chips were excellent, with just the right bit of crispiness. My cod serving was quite small and underwhelming.I asked for an extra tartar sauce and was given some what seemed like mayo and dill sauce instead.
Flaky tender Atlantic cod, crispy exterior. But both the chips (friesand fish were a little bland. Needed salt. The staff is very helpful and clears plates efficiently.
Amazing fish and chips! Was cooked fresh for us. They don’t over fry the fish like a lot of places do. Tarter sauce was on point also. The people taking the orders were super nice! Will be back again. Thank you for the great food.
Stopped in right after we got into town and off the airplane. The cod fish was a bit bland but the chips were very well made. The staff was all friendly. I would return to try maybe a fish sandwich next time.
Frozen fish, watery sauce , smilly chips.. Ive asked everyone if there fish is fresh and they confirmed yes and it was not at all .. turned up frozen and smilly
My family and I got the cod w/ chips, mushy peas, and Calamari.Pros: The staff were attentive, the fish was fried well, and they had outdoor seating options which was nice . Price of €16 for my meal including drink, to me, was fair but I also live in SF where everything is incredibly overpriced. I think I was juiced that I could get fresh food for that price.Cons: Maybe this is how fish and chips/ mushy peas are supposed to taste but nothing had flavor. We had use a lot of condiments to get it to taste like something. We ended up leaving most of it on our plates. I felt bad because I hate wasting food but I couldnt continue eating something with no taste.
This is a nicely located restaurant on OConnell Street.I ordered gluten free cod and chips. Unfortunately, the fish was very greasy and the chips were just warm when they came out so were cold by the time I got halfway through. I wouldnt rush back.
Always get fish and chips here and mushy peas when we go thru Dublin to the airport. Just on the opposite side of the road in OConnell street to the luxury bus to the airport stop. Tasty and filling and good price at €12.
Went in here for a small breakfast with my toddler. The food was good, but what made the visit really great was the service. The manager(or owner?was really nice to my little one and chatted with us about this and that while we had really nice food. They also had a highchair, which was great for a parent travelling alone.
Tables were all dirty had to buss a table just so I could have a clear table. Food was OK not the best fish and chips Ive had but not the worst was not super greasy at least had a good variety of fish
Gluten free goujons and chips were lovely, fish and chips were nice albeit a little cold probably from sitting while the gluten free food was prepared. Only issue with the whole experience was the price. €33 for GF goujons an chips and cod and chips plus dips and few cokes. Lovely but expensive
Absolutely the most obnoxious customer service I have ever had in Dublin. We stood in a line only to be told that it was take out only after having been told by the employee inside the door to order at the counter and he would take it to our table. After standing in line for 20 minutes we had to leave where were we supposed to eat fish and chips on the sidewalk? The next day we went into the restaurant and asked what time there were open until with table service as we would not want take out. We were told they closed at 9 and last orders 830. We asked again to confirm we could sit down at a table they said yes. We went back at 8 there was no line. When we went to order we were told take out only. We were shocked and appalled that we had been given wrong information again. The rude obnoxious man behind the counter was so sarcastic and says you were not told we were open until 830 for Eat in on the phone. I explained that I had not called but had come in personally when I was passing earlier. He turned to his colleague and smirked andSmirked even more as we walked out. How can you possibly run an establishment when the staff do not know what is going on and they treat customers with such disdain.Just because they are on O’Connell street and have a captive audience of tourists does not mean they can make it up as they go along. They must have terrible management when they cannot communicate with the staff about what is going on and mess potential customers around like this. Stay away they do not deserve your business.
Lovely spot for a smashin breakfast. Staff really friendly fast efficient. Blond girl knows her job so well watching tables, helping her colleagues smiling all tye time.
Ordered the traditional fish and chips (with codand thought the cod was great. It’ll come down to personal preference for the chips as they’re not a more typical style. The loss of the star wasn’t for the chips, though—it was because the place was in serious need of a cleaning. To the employees’ credit, it was busy and raining so we may have just gotten there at a difficult time. It’s definitely not a reason to avoid it.The employees were also very kind and we didn’t wait very long for the food. The menu’s limited size is another area where it’s either a plus or minus for each individual. Nothing added or deducted for that either.Worth a visit for some good (almost greatfish and ships and a great atmosphere.
Fish and chips - great! You order and pay downstairs and take a number - waiter will bring you the food
So disappointed. The tarter sauce was disgusting and gelatinous. Inedible. The fish portion small and chips nothing exceptional. My first F&C of my trip 😢
Not great .This is based on a few visits. Chips tasted like failed reheats. Fish ok Staff good
All the menu is gluten free except the burgers. Very heavy food but very tasty
Fish is good. Dined in before boarding coach to Belfast. Good for quick bite. Upstairs offers 2 shop size seating. Ground floor is tight
Cod was great but the haddock had some scales on it which I didnt like. Came with lots of chips. Overall very good. Another review mentioned increased prices but still seems like a good product for the money.
Lots of space on upper floor. Good for larger groups that dont want to eat their fish and chips standing outside. Food tasted ok, portion a bit less than other chippers.
GF fish and chips is always five stars in my book. Nice atmosphere, clean and plenty of seating upstairs.
I found the fish ‘n chips to be average, especially for the high price. It was nothing to write home about. Wasn’t bad, but didn’t wow me either. I actually thought that Leo Burdock was much better. Only difference is it’s takeaway only, and this place you can dine in. If I had to choose fish n chips here I’d go with Leo Burdock hands down.
I had a full breakfast- was very good. I recommend. Also had pancakes 🥞 with Nutella they were very dry. Can be improved with pancake syrup( honey)😋.
Not great. Small portions, and my small teamug was both cracked and had a chip out of it.The portions are about half the size they were a few years ago, and fish and chips cost about 13 Euros now. The food was fresh however, and the staff very good.I used to recommend Beshoffs to everyone but wont eat here again after today.
Fish and chip were nicer than I expected but the peas were stone cold and cudnt be ate. The staff appeared lost and dazzled mixing peoples orders up and it wasnt that busy. Prob wouldnt rush back.
I like the fish and chips here in the morning.I got the hake and cod. I personally like the hake. The fish is wonderful while the chips are just okay.I would substitute the chips for another piece of fried fish.Portion size was good.Great customer service too.
Great range of gluten free meals - everything gluten free except burgers. Staff were very knowledgeable and made sure my meal was seperate and brought gluten free condiments.
The fish and chips are great. Very reasonably priced compared to other nearby restaurants. There is a quiet second floor dining area where I was able to people watch as people were showing their team pride for the hurling match today.
We were waiting for the bus and saw this place we could wait outside. We had the chicken tenders and chips as well as some battered fish...so tasty! It was piping hot and that garlic sauce is 👌🏾
Very fresh fish and chunky homemade chips. Also a lovely building to spend some time in good company
This food changed me. I had low expectations for fish and chips, or gluten free fish and chips, and now I wish I could still be eating them. The best thing I’ve eaten all year. I visited the other location beshoff bros the next day because this was so amazing, but I was disappointed as nothing can stand up to this location I guess. Worth the distance. You will never find another like it. I don’t usually rate things this aggressively but I wish I could keep an order in my pocket and feed it to people who don’t believe in a heaven so they can get a glimpse of what it must be like.
Still doesnt compare to fish n chips in st. Johns, NL, but Im very biased. Tasty, light batter, fresh cod, quick service, eat upstairs for a nice view of The Spire and Dublin city center. Local beers, inexpensive, small but tasty menu. Whatever dip comes with the onion rings is far better than the tartar sauce that comes with the fish. Use that as a substitute, you wont be disappointed.
Nice experience ! Fresh fish, tasty sauce, good fries and a fair price... Its a lovely place ! We also liked the decoration and the history of this restaurant. The staff was kind and professional. "Merci" !
I like it. Building has it style of oldish Dublin. You can get salad with your fish and chips.Even gluten free option is available and it is located in the heart of Dublin city. They always have day specials. Staff friendly.Toilet in basement and more seats on 1st floor ;)
Okay Fish with Old, Re-fried, oily chips, dont bother. Customer service is terrible, I told the lady at the counter, that the chips looked and tasted terrible, her reply was, "Oh". She then turned away and spoke to her colleague, but nothing was said afterwards. No apology. The supervisor and another member of staff, sat next to us, eating their evening meal (their chips looked freshly fried, unlike ours). The staff get away with selling bad food because most of their customers are just passing through, (on holiday).Dont waste your money!Super macs, fish and chips, are much nicer!
A very nice place, good cod, chips are decent... Tartar sauce is amazing and the BBQ is tangy as HELL! MAYBE TOO TANGY?! THERES NO SUCH THING AS A TOO TANGY BBQ SAUCE SON!All in all, not a bad experience.
