Jason Atherton's upmarket Modern British restaurant in Ian Schrager's London Edition Hotel.
My absolute favourite little spot in central london. The food is always amazing- the Mac and cheese especially! The service is also always impeccable.Beautiful ambience and a great place to enjoy food with friends or have a drink at the bar.
amazing staff the service and food is incredible! The best dining experience we’ve had in London.
Cool atmosphere, authentic interior, really good service but not all meals are following expectations, at least in our case.Extraordinary tartar steak but soooo average mac and cheese.
Our table wasnt ready when we arrived and then when we were seated 2 of the mains which we wanted had sold out. However the signature macaroni dish with beef was amazing and our waitress was super lovely
Second time love this place staff are friendly, ambience is nice with decoration, drinks are amazing tried three different ones.
DAMN - All I can say is that I ate the entire meal with a huge smile on my face! Felt like my Birthday & Christmas meal combined!!Lamb, Rib Eye with Bearnaise, Mac & Cheese plus the Mushroom Soup starter were all exceptional! The service from a few staff were a little overkill but no complaints. Daniella was awesome - Definitely planning a return trip...
Really classy and beautiful restaurant. Immaculate setting for a date or if youre just trying to impress. Quintessially London! Great experience 👍🏾
I had the worst night out at this hotel. I booked a table for 2 because they didnt ask if I was coming for drink or food. When I said I wouldnt have food, the staff asked me to move to the bar. Well, its an awkward moment, because I was having a great conversation with my date sitting comfortably at table for 30 minutes, especially after I ordered a bottle of red wine. So I was "forced" to order some food. I couldnt believe the staff rudely embarrassed me for my date night.I wouldnt recommend to anyone here even though its a famous place.
Friendly staff, delicious food, beautiful decoration. We enjoyed it tremendously. The fish & chips is delicious but keep in mind that its absolutely huge!
Service was excellent, our waiter was excellent. Had the chicken paillard and lobster Mac and cheese, and gin martinis. Lovely atmosphere and aesthetic
Amazing location for a meal with friends or family. The food is exemplary and the drinks pair perfectly with the meals.
Really good service, lovely food and wine selection. The restaurant is truly stunning. Expensive but fairly standard for Central London.
Fantastic food , great service and great drinks. The food is modern British and its top notch. Happy to see this hotel has kept the old world charm of 5 star hotel and restaurant
Almost a perfect dinner - food was amazing and the restaurant was beautiful. A couple of things made the experience less than perfect though. Firstly, it felt like there was a little too much hard sell on the champagne cart, secondly, there were so many staff milling about it felt like they got in their own way. Seems odd to say but we had too many people looking after us on the night we were there (Tues 9th Aug 2022), to the extent that no one person was really giving us a personal service and the front of house sometimes felt a bit confused. But maybe it was just an off night or something was going on that we werent aware of. I suspect that this wouldnt be the norm.
This place has an incredible vibe - amazingly decorated with extravagant interior. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the portions were generous. Opted to share one of the larger steak dishes accompanied by salad between 2 (as recommendedand it tasted great and very filling. Lovely soup to start as well!
Soooooo good! Everything is great from cocktail to service!
Berners is a place that is both fun and offers superior service! We enjoyed excellent dishes, amazing wine pairings (Francesco is our favourite sommelier there - never misses a chance to impress usand super friendly and engaging service. We will come back very soon!
Always a fantastic culinary experience since 2016 never disappoint. Highly recommend to pair the desert with wine. Great atmosphere and highly qualified staff.
Excellent service. Fantastic chef. Amazing food! I have enjoyed all three meals here while staying at the London Edition. Everything has been delicious!
Exceeded expectations and would highly recommend! We had breakfast here. Tea was outstanding and so was the food. Loved the atmosphere so much that we stayed a little longer and had a cappuccino. This lived up to the hype! Very reasonably priced, too. My one recommendation is to make reservations very far in advance if you’d like to do high tea!
Very elegant, very posh place. Food is amazing service is even more.
The staff of this restaurant are amazing. They are super friendly and professional. The reservation team were also great. The restaurant was fully booked, however they managed to fit us in when I explained how much we like this place.Steak is always great. I suggest fillet over rib-eyes. The atmosphere is amazing. Will definitely recommend Berners Tavern.
A great restaurant, with delicious food and friendly staff. While eating, you can see hundreds of beautiful paintings hanging on the walls that improve your appetite
Known for its Mac n Cheese and the lobster mac n cheese was delicious! Very rich and complex in flavor! We also ordered the Halibut and heirloom tomato salad which were both good.
The Ham Hock starter was surprisingly flavoursome, going well with the paired chilli jam. Staff is very friendly. The sommelier was particularly good, helping us secure a lovely smokey Croatian red.
Truly an experience worth having. If you like British cuisine then this is the place
The decor, service and food were great, but the vegan options were very limited and had way smaller portions compared to the normal menu, yet I was still charged the same price as though I had eaten the lamb or steak which I think was too abusive given my dish had nothing but salad and vegetables... I think its too overpriced for the quality.
Excellent food and impressive decor. However there is a cold atmosphere where there is a pressure to over buy (they asked us 5 times in one hour if we needed Champaign). That kind of pressure that is making you feel uncomfortable.
Beautiful interior, excellent service and very friendly staff. I spent a lovely evening here. The Berners Tavern house salad was good. We had the Cote de Boeuf to share which was also yummy. Then the chocolate and raspberry slice was very nice. I would recommend this place and I would love to try their breakfast and Sunday lunch in the future.
Amazing lunch helped by the beautiful decor, attentive, thoughtful staff and great wine/champagne list! Our server was SO lovely and fantastic, he dragged over the whole standing sanitising machine to our table when my girlfriend asked if she could use some! Amazing. Cant wait to visit again! 🤩
Was our last meal out before confinement no2 and really glad of our choice. The food was great and service really top notch
Great food and wine and service and very safe measures put in place. COVID screens between tables which actually enhance the candle lighting and add to the lovely atmosphere!
Lovely restaurant with beautiful interior. We went for brunch and the food was nice but not outstanding. Limited options with small portion sizes. Staff were very friendly, they have a cloakroom too which is always handy. Tasty coffee too.
Berners Tavern is one of three West End restaurants Jason Atherton opened in 2013; the other two, Little Social and Social Eating House, were very well received for their playful and appealing dishes. This new venture is more of the same, but in a much grander setting. It’s housed in the new Edition hotel in Fitzrovia, which looks like the older, more sophisticated sister of the Sanderson hotel just down the road. Both places were given makeovers by hotelier Ian Schrager, but Edition is an exercise in slick metropolitan taste, with opulent chandeliers, framed art-by-the-yard covering entire walls, and improbably elegant staff. The huge lobby bar looks fabulous; but the vast dining room, with its ornate plasterwork ceiling, very low lighting and lively bar area, looks even better. The menu’s prices are alarmingly high – but most of the dishes we tried were very good.
Super tasty food and amazing location. Felt a bit overwhelmed at first with all the waiters offering champagne, wine menu, water, main menu etc but not the end of the world.
Charming and grand room and ambiance. Unfortunately that’s it. We came here for brunch. The menu is limited but the quality of food was frankly poor. I am surprised considering that the chef behind this is Jason Atherton whose Pollen Street Social is of excellent standard.Service was also just ok.
What a fantastic experience! The food was exquisite, the service was impeccable and the selection of both beverages and food was great. It is hard to find any flaws with this venue and there’s no reason to want to find flaws. The service we received for a Father’s day meal was to the highest standard, considering we had a large group as well as two small children. Thank you to all at the bar and the servers for the great service and a memorable Father’s day meal.
In an exceptionally beautiful setting Berners Tavern serves up high quality food with a price tag to match. We had the Sunday set menu which I believe represents good value for money. £39.50 for 3 courses of this quality is great and all the food is tasty. The staff are friendly and the service is quite relaxed. The champagne trolley is a classic touch!
The service was excellent and the food was very good. The food quality has gone done in the past 2 years but still a very cool spot to celebrate and anniversary or birthday.
Beautiful space that feels like you’re dining in a rich Englishmen’s gallery. But the mains and dessert left much to be desired. The night started well, with two well rounded starters - the British pork pie and mushroom soup with poach heritage egg were rich, and delicately presented. Yummy. However the two mains that followed were quite underwhelming, given the price. I ordered the Jacob’s ladder (a tender steak and the Roasted lemon sole (the fish). The Lemon sole was the most disappointing - dry, chewy texture and over seasoned. Quite salty. This type of fish if fresh, given the herbs and spices used (capers, lemon, parsley, brown shrimpshould stand on its own without much seasoning. However an over use of salt overwhelmed any sense of freshness and natural flavors of the herbs and fish. This combined with the dry chewy texture was actually quite unpleasant. For 35 pounds this was far less enjoyable than I’d had hoped. Warning also that the fish is especially bony. I wouldn’t recommend it.Following this was the Jacob’s Ladder a slow cooked beef short ribs. This was so-so. Tender and the first few bites were quite delicious. But overall it was quite a boring and gets tiring a few bites in. More enjoyable than the fish but lacks character. Finally the dessert. We hoped for a redeeming climax with the “Flaming Alaska”. A raspberry and yogurt dish with pitcachio crumble. It’s description was all so impressive but surprisingly besides its fiery entry, the dessert itself felt quite one dimensional and a burnt bitterness throughout the dish made the whole experience quite unpleasant. For 18 pounds this was perhaps the most disappointing finale I’ve ever had in any up-market dining. The final price tally including service fee night for two was $134 pounds. Grossly disappointing for the price.Closing thoughts:Ambiance: gorgeous interior that’s quite unique for a dining space. Impressively tall roof with tasteful art works scattered around the walls that gives you the feeling of dining in a royal space. The music and lighting in the evening makes this quite a special venue. Note that this is not a romantic setting given how loud the chatter echoes throughout the space, so avoid if you want a quiet dining experience. Noise levels has a lounge, bustling vibe. A contrast to the royal decor.Food:Starters good, mains and dessert underwhelming. Dessert was very sad.Service: Was okay. Sommelier was friendly and knowledgeable. Waiter was nice too. However the lady at the front desk wasn’t the most welcoming. No smile, and quite brash despite having a reservation. When we told her we had a reservation she walked quite quickly which what appeared to be her leading us to a table. We followed then she turned around and quite rudely told us to stay put. So we did. Then she then called us over again to come to the table she’d found.Final recommendation:For evenings, go for the ambiance, the starters and the drinks. It’ll be cheaper and more interesting. Avoid the mains I ordered, and especially avoid the $18 pound Flaming Alaska.I can only rate on my experience, which for the price tag I give a 3/5.If you have a sophisticated palette, expecting a tantalizing dining experience don’t go.
Enjoyed a dinner with friends over the long weekend. The decoration is modern and fancy, suitable for all kinds of celebration. Staff are very professional and welcoming. They would serve the dishes with a trolly and perform a final step to complete the dish, such as mixing the risotto or garnishing the tomato sauce etc. However, given the price of food, the quality and taste is relatively average. The presentation is very artistic and elegant but the taste does not meet the expectation. In other words, its more of a place for ambience indulgence, but not for sophisticated palates.
Had a great lunch here on a Friday afternoon with a work colleague. We didnt have a booking but the place was fairly empty around 1pm so we didnt have to wait for a table. The dining room is beautiful - high ceilings, pictures floor to ceiling. Had the fish (battered cod), chips and mushy peas which was excellent. Not a cheap place, but worth it for a treat, would definitely recommend and will be going back
Impeccably delivered sophisticated, but still down to earth food. Beautifully designed interior with a fun, buzzy atmosphere. Quite noisy if you don’t like that kind of thing, but just added to the experience for us. Great service.
Have been here several times and the food s usually excellent the only time Im disappointed is when I have steak as the chef clearly ignores your request for how you would like it cooked and does it however he wants. The last one I had was ordered medium rare but when it arrived had barely touched the pan and was very rare
Stunning place for Sunday lunch. Interior design is filled with beautiful artwork across the walls and feels very grand. Can easily get lost in the aesthetics and also fun to people watch.Had the crab toast for starters which was okay, nothing special but the Sunday roast was very tasty and plentiful. The trimmings, especially the roast potatoes were some of the best weve had.Waffle dessert was very tasteless and subpar - most disappointing part of the meal. Drinks were always refilled and service was attentive and friendly. Would definitely return for dinner.
I recently visited for a work dinner. As there was a large group of us and it was a late booking, we were put in the upstairs private dining room with a set menu - good in a sense but we felt a bit let down that we weren’t able to eat in the gorgeous main room.I will preface by saying that when the food came it was in good time and absolutely delicious, however before this, we were probably sat down for at least an hour before any food orders were even taken. Maybe 40-45 mins before drink orders as well. There was no bread on the table until 5 minutes before starters were served, so we were absolutely ravenous by this point. We also ended up having to serve our own wine a few times as the waiting staff were nowhere to be seen for a lot of the time before the food was served.A few of us had some changes to the set menu and they were very accommodating to this. The food was also to a very high standard and I was highly impressed with what we had.The focaccia starter (I had mine without tomatoeswas delicious but a large portion. The steaks were very good, and the mac and cheese with braised beef was one of the best meals I’ve tried in a long time. Very rich and decadent, and also a very large portion, so atleast the cost is reflected in the size. The desserts were beautiful and I was impressed with the taste there too.As well as wine we ordered a round of cocktails. I was appreciative that we were given recommendations on these by the serving staff, however I was less appreciative when my choices were questioned. I’d initially picked a special cocktail and was told I shouldn’t have it as it was ‘too sweet’. I love sweet drinks and told him as much, but he told me I shouldn’t have it unless it was with dessert and picked me out another one. This isn’t the worst thing ever, but i do feel like he could’ve respected the fact that I said I like a sweet drink instead of insisting it wasn’t right for me.I would love to give Berners Tavern a five but these little things just impacted my experience. I’d like to go in a different circumstance and see if the service is better, as I think otherwise it was fantastic. I’ve attached some photos of the food so you can see how great it looked.
Oh I love this place. A group of 5 of us went for brunch on Sunday and it was just lovely. The restaurant is simply beautiful and the staff are lovely and friendly. The wine guy was funny and kept us entertained. The roasts were off the scale good, with rich gravy and melt in the mouth beef. It was £100+ per person for shared starters, a main and a shared dessert, but the few bottles of wine may well have hiked up our bill. A great place for a special occasion.
The decor and the staff were amazing at Berners Tavern. When making the booking they advised that they are not doing a Valentines menu, but since it was our 1st Valentines day as Mr&Mrs they brought us (without asking specifically for ita very nice desert.Would definitely go there again for breakfast and will want to go there for dinner too.
A hotel bar with real wow factor. The bar here is amazing, a cavernous room filled with old paintings. Cocktails are amongst the best Ive had. Food is really good - portions pretty big by London fine dining standards, though not quite as great as the cocktails.
Absolutely love the decor of the restaurant, its stunning - the painting on the walls, the extra high ceiling.. Its good for a social gathering or a causal date. The waiters who served us that night are knowledgeable and friendly. However, we found the food very average. Compared with Jason Athertons other restaurants, this one is bit disappointing.
