Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in Oakland

Very unique and interesting place to visit. I believe it is student run with an advisor present to run the place smoothly.

I was really excited to check this place out. Unfortunately, I dont appreciate modern.. and I mean really modern.. art. The building is pretty cool though.

Adults get in for free when accompanying an under 18!

PFA is an important part of my Bay Area existence.

Its disappointing.We finished it in less than an hour.I paid for nothing.I think the SF moma & the Washington DC museums are better.The building is big but empty.

I did not want to step out once I went in … artists paradise and then their collections are very very well curated

Small museum. Not much to look at when I was there.

Greatly enjoyed 90-minute Chantal Akerman film about a hot night in Brussels when nobody could sleep and for 90 minutes they were baring their souls to partners.

They have a student pass which is free!!(Highschool AND college onethe staff was friendly and make sure to check out the small store they have on the first floor. This museum also has free iteams on the bottom floor. Free artwork you can take. The only reason why I don’t think it’s 5 stars is because I wished there was MORE art..?

Great art museum with a well-run art lab for kids.

One of the benefit of being a UCB student is you can visit this museum for free, and it has wonderful collections, as well as special exhibitions!

Good museum, but need more collections.

A good museum for contemporary art. Its big but with a lot of hopeful empty space. It didnt take me that long to finish the displays. The art is beautiful but it needs bigger names to generate more appeal to the masses. Maybe they should reduce the $14 admission fee or just make it a free entry museum. Their gift shop is nice, go check it out. Theres a cafeteria but it was closed the day I was there. Its better to get there on public transportation than to hunt for parking spaces. Have a meal after the visit at one of the many nice restaurants nearby.

It could probably be a good place for art lovers but it wasnt for me.

Beautiful modern contemporary museum! Located Right across street from UC Berkeley Campus. Easy accessible.

I liked this little museum. It is in a convenient location and nice that Cal students and staff get free admission. Although Im not always a big fan of contemporary art, I could appreciate most of it. I really liked the Tongson exhibit (Chinese style paintings).

Amazing films, often with Q&A sessions with directors, other filmmakers, and UC graduate students. International films and documentaries. Exhibits very engaging. Workshops to sample art experiences, weaving, printing. I became a member, guests are free.

Great spot to visit when in town. Id suggest a discounted entry fee when multiple galleries are in transition. Felt like I was paying the full price for half the experience during my visit.

Ive seen rare & fascinating film programs at the PFA, including The Mystery of Oberwald by Michelangelo Antonioni and starring his muse the ravishing & brilliant Monica Vitti.

@bampfa was a great study visit! I went to Berkley, CA to check out what is going on here. The first thing I really appreciated was the architecture of the building and the space itself- the building has a huge outdoor display where movies are stream, you can find a huge romance stairs at the entrance lobby and except of the beautiful galleries you can visit several workshop rooms and library for further activities or reflection. The space of stairs is used also as an art wall, so it changes its “facade” quite often. Unfortunately the cozy cafe on the top of the building was closed, but I am sure it’s cherry on the top with its special view. Much of BAMPFA is open, but it looks like they no longer have the 3rd floor cafe...huge bummer (I could be wrong). The childrens art center is currently open and they have water bottle refill stations...BUT the water is not cold. The museum itself is a beautiful modern day museum with a theater in the back, but since the pandemic hit large sections of the museum felt like a storage warehouse.

The feminist exhibit is terrific. Afterwords we went downstairs and made a feminist poster! What fun! Hurry, it will be gone sometime in January 2022. I recommend taking the tour, I believe they’re at 2 PM.

A cool 2.5 story museum with varying exhibits. Theres a cafe on the top floor and a narrow store on the street level.

Museum that showcases current artists. The museum provides an overview of what todays artists are creating in context with our environment. It will make you take notice of what is happening. Not a dusty collection of the old

Love this huge whole wall mural which caught my eyes as soon as I entered the Berkeley Art Museum Of Pacfic Flim Archives- BAMPFA. Thats located right outside of UC Berkeley Campus, in Berkeley, CA. If you like arts and films, you will love this place. Have fun and explore❣️

I went to BAMFA to see one art exhibit and was shocked to see 4 great exhibits in one sitting. I enjoyed the versatility in the museums curation to balance historical and contemporary work under the same roof. The new faculty was a joy to wander through and I look forward to my future visits. Next time I will have a date with the cafe. 😉

Overall, the vibe of the museum is really clean and allows for the art to show through (as it should). They put a lot of effort into making sure that everything is ideally displayed, from the intentional lighting direction on 3-dimensional works to the wall color to the display frame and height of each work. Everyone working there cares about making your experience ideal and it shows. In addition, entry is free for Berkeley students; if youre a student you have no excuse to not check it out!

Excellent smallish art museum with extremely well curated shows, we did not get to see a film but were extremely satisfied with our afternoon gazing upon beauty and curiosities

They still have cardamom coffee & thats all that really matters. [Just kidding.] I love that they dedicated the largest space to a local WOC, artist residing in Richmond. Masks are required! Some areas are still being built out/under construction. Rad experience.

A beautiful art museum with a diverse and expansive collection on display. This was the first art museum I have ever been to, and it was a culturally significant experience. Price of admission isnt cheap but definitely worth for viewing all the galleries. Students get in free too.

Kind of pricey for general admission for what it is, but free to students. A nice place for students to hang out. Café Babette is lovely with an amazing view, airy architecture with pretty plants, and consistently delicious desserts. Café Babettes vibes are impeccable. In the basement there are usually Kapla blocks which are fun to build with for all ages. The museum rotates art exhibits and they are typically thought provoking and engaging.

There is a wonderful exhibit of quilts by Rosie Lee Thompson up right now!

Great place for kids/toddlers! There is a reading nook downstairs where they have a small collection of books. In the same room there are building blocks which are also neat. From 2-7, they usually host an art lab where they have pens/markers/glue/stamps. All of this for free!

BAMPFA is a favorite destination for art - and amazing curation and presentation of cinema!

We had bridal shower here at their Babette Cafe. It was not a big venue but cozy , unique and friendly place. Awesome services make us feel warm welcome !!! Definitely worth you to try.

I came as a guest of a member. Ill go back to take in a movie. They have quite a wide collection of those. We saw art and music.Excelente place for a date, platonic or otherwise.

Great contemporary/modern art here. Lots of beautiful space. Berkeley really shows its Leftist roots here.

Great modern art museum. Definitely check them out if youre in the area. There are a lot of great museums in the area, but this one is on the smaller side so you dont get too exhausted walking through the galleries.

There is an impressive number of special exhibitions here. The building also houses a cafe and the Pacific Film Archive.

My cousin and I saw this museum while out walking and decided to try it out. It was housed in a beautiful modern building. Inside, the modern theme continued and it was in itself something of an art installation. The exhibits were very interesting. There was a photographic exhibit that was most engaging and a small but fantastic expatriate Tibetan art exhibit. I only had a couple of hours to spare there but I would have had more time. It was quite the place.

This is a great art museum, housing some of the finest pieces across centuries. They have acrylic and oil paintings from the 1600s and also paintings and items from Science which talk about quantum theory. Alongside they also had a display of minimalist design and craft. It was a nice experience. Their gift shop is pretty good too. Lots of fun things to get.A fun library section too with the cutest furniture.

Since its remodel, BAMPF has elevated its permanent and rotating exhibits with a beautiful space worthy of date nights or during Berkeley visits. The collection ranged from science-influenced a la Calder to photography, classical portraits, and a rotating exhibit. Food and even a study area is available.Admission is free for Berkeley students and around $13 for adults

Great museum. Got lucky it was their free night at the museum.

Lovely building. Interesting and diverse collection. When we were there they had some art making going on as well in a nice open studio space downstairs. The cafe on the top floor had a nice selection of coffee, teas and snacks.

The museum is not as big as MoMAs, they have few floors. Yet, I loved what they have. When I visited, I saw art installations by Ugo Randinone (clownsand other artists works. I liked it a lot. They also have some beautiful Indian artworks.There is a room where you can sit and try your own art and they provide basic art materials for free. If you are in Berkeley, a must visit place.

When I was there, they did not have many exhibits open, and the exhibits on at the time were not very interesting so I did not fee like it was worth the $12 admission for non students. There is a nice little cafe here where you can sit and people watch at the window. The architecture and the interior of the building is pretty cool. There is a small gift shop you can visit without paying admission and they screen film classics.

An amazing museum with eclectic exhibitions that surprise, delight, and educate. Loved the Martin Wong exhibition that closes today! $12 general admission, but free to UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff AND 18 and under + one adult. Check out the interactive art lab, Babette cafe on the second floor for tasty meals and/or coffee and pastries, and the museum shop.

Always something interesting is happening. New personal favorites were discovered here. This time I was thoroughly captivated by the work of Martin Wong.
