Perched on the Ebenalp plateau with views across Appenzell, this rustic mountain inn is a 6-minute walk from a cable car station and 700 m from Wildkirchli, a paleolithic cave system.Modest, wood-paneled dorms and private rooms share bathrooms (showers feature hot water for a fee).Breakfast is free. There's a low-key bar, and a casual regional restaurant with a terrace.
Berggasthaus Ebenalp in Appenzell
Description
I went to have some lunch there. It was great. The staffs were friendly. The locations amazing. Food was tasty. I will go back again for sure.
MoreNice dishes, beautiful view
We were there in summer. The first room given to us was on the upper floor, which was very hot. The second room was better but still too hot to sleep in. We wanted to go outside because it was cooler, but the hotel was closed early. The family appeared unwelcoming, perhaps due to language barrier. The hotel is the most accessible in the area from the lift, but still a steep hike. Dont carry a lot of luggage with you.
MoreSehr gutes bergrestaurant. Freundliche und schnelle Bedienung. Wunderschöne Aussicht in den Alpstein und Bodensee
MoreBeautiful, fun little mountain house. We booked a private triple room for mid October. Highly recommend the Gluwhein and their Wild special for dinner. The room was quite chilly but they provided a heater that had no problem warming it up. Plenty of hiking options around and beautiful views!Thank you for the hospitality!
MoreNice place for hiking
MoreFirst and last time there!!We decided to do a three day hike in Alpstein. We booked then two Berggasthaus and the second one was Ebenalp. I know there is a difference between Berggasthaus and Hütte, but as we had our little dog with us we had to stay in a Berggasthaus as in the Hütte it is difficult to have the possibility to keep the dog with you during sleeping. We were so tired about the entire day, having hike 800 m high and 1600 m down i total..and we just want to have relax in a warm place. But unfortunately Berggasthaus Ebenalp seems to be more a Kindergarten than a place to rest, eat and relax. There were a lot of children shouting loud all the time. And during the night a group of people sing loud till 3 am. Moreover when in the morning Ive told this to the young woman at the desk, she said only "sorry" but she made me pay full price. I was very upset! We could not sleep from 2 am to 5am and we had a lot to hike+3 hours driving to return back home. This is the first and last time we stay there!!Exiting the door Ive really said "A MAI PIÙ!!"Location is perfect but rudeness of people is astonishing!!
MoreLoved it, really great experience for a complete novice. Plenty of beautiful walks with fantastic scenery, nice food to be had then after. Well worth a visit
Danke! 🙂
MoreFriendly service, good food and astonishing Views
MoreS P E C T A C U L AR!! Be ready for some serious hiking and shine spectacular views. Listen to three view bells without seeing the cows. If toy like nature and hiking, THIS IS YOUR DREAM PLACE! Much better than expected food four such a remote place, reasonable prices. I just wish Iwould have been able to spend three night there!!!
MoreFriendly service, and albeit simple food, freshly prepared. Quite a bit quieter and more relaxed than the touristy Aescher-Wildkirchli down the path. There was live music on the terrace for Swiss National Day! 🇨🇭Respective of social distancing measures for C-19. Clean restrooms.
MoreAmazing service, great food, breathtaking views. We stayed the night and loved waking up in there Berggasthaus.
MoreMajestic, mesmerizing......no more words to explain unless experienced by self!!! Worth the visit!!
MoreJust visit the place only for its beauty and hiking experience.
Amazing home cooked food on top of the mountain with reasonable prices and a stunning view!
MoreGreat place at the mountain to take dinner and some hiking at the summer
Good to have it so accessible, but just regular overpriced food.
This was great place to stay. Basic amenities and shared bathrooms but felt like you were in the mountains.
More👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼... Incredible view, unforgettable moment to be here
Took my breath away 😍 x
Good service
Food was good, Rösti was better than usually eaten. After placing an order we were told that some food options were not available anymore..m to discover that other customers still could get them!
MoreLovely place! Amazing trip with a great view.
Aggressive Bedinung
Not a friendly place for turists although se bring you the money. Come on Switzerland you can do it better !!
MoreHad a great lunch then walked down the mountain via the hotel in the mountainside that can be accessed from this one. Very steep terrain so need good boots NOT as two idiots wore, flip-flops!
MoreWow. What a mistake to sleepover at this place. Basically the location is amazing. Your vantage point lets you overlook the vast hills of the Appenzellerland and the exposed and rugged mountains of the Alpstein. The rooms are basic but well-kept. The big downside is the staff. We never felt welcomed at this place which is familly run sincr many years. After waiting for some time we were able to checkin, only Information given upon our request. The breakfast is included but really tiny. If you want to stay in this area look for other options. We havent eaten at this place other than the breakfast.
MoreLovely place with an amazing view of the mountains
One of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been. The staff is kind, the food is delicious and it is very clean and comfortable. There is a lot of love and care put into this hotel by the family who run it and it is very special. Please note that you have to be in reasonably good shape and have the right hiking boots to get here as it is very steep and at times slippery. I will return as much as I can!
MoreNice rooms, good food and incredible views especially sunset
Been here a few times at various periods of the year, it is a very nice, cosy and warm place. The staff are very friendly and relaxed, when you go you will appreciate where they are. Has great local food and drinks, but I think hit chocolate is the way. On a good day you can sit outside and take in the view, with the sound of cow bells in the distance, just awesome. From the Ebenalp bahn terminal to the Berggasthaus is an uphill walk about 400 meters on a very narrow path. No cars.
More.👍
Cold, beautiful view. Even better in summer
Food was nice, location was beautiful.
Crowdy but beautiful landscape, several menus et traditional food.
We only walked up to the location, but it was a gorgeous view!
Beautiful location, with a gorgeous view of the Säntis. Sanitary toilets, polite staff. Strongly recommend hiking up, not taking the gondola.
MoreOur double room was comfortable, clean, and was exactly what we expected. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and had a variety of options like cereal, muesli, yogurt, bread with butter & jam, cheese, coffee, and orange juice.
MoreIn 3 letters WOW!We ate at the guest house in the cliff with our German/Swiss Friends and had the Rosti which the place is famous for. The walk down to the restaurant was spectacular and the cows were friendly too. We even got to see the Swiss army on maneuvers too. the prices were very reasonable considering your in Switzerland and on top of a mountain. A must see for all travelers
MoreMy wife and I backpacked to this hotel in February of 1999 not knowing it was closed for the season. The restaurant and slopes however were open. Seeing that we had traveled so far to visit, the staff opened up a hotel room for us. The location and hotel was beautiful. We will never forget this place.
