It is estimated that the stone lantern of Beomeosa Temple was made during the Unified Silla Period (around the 9th centuryOriginally, what was in front of Yonghwajeon Hall was changed from the bell tower of the temple during the Japanese colonial period. It is 2.62m high and has a lotus pattern engraved on a three-tier pedestal. It is good to look around Beomeosa Temple more after seeing it as a stone lantern. And I recommend eating baeksuk at Geumjeongsanjang, which is a 12-minute walk away.

It is a beautiful temple nestled in the mountain. Its not big and easy to walk. I definitely reccomend visiting in the spring or fall as there isnt much shade.

Perched on the slopes of Geumjeongsan mountain, Beomeosa Temple is tranquil and quiet, despite its proximity to Busan’s hustle and bustle. Surrounded by hiking trails, woodland and striking mountain scenery, it’s a popular spot for many of the city’s inhabitants. It’s also one of three major temples in Korea, the others being Haeinsa Temple in Gayasan National Park, and Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan. With a history of over 1,300 years, it’s Busan’s most important temple and has a significant place within the tradition of South Korean Buddhism.

So unless you like hills, don’t walk up here from the train station. It is approx 5000w ride and will save your legs. There is a beautiful nature trail to walk while you are there and I would rate the walk as easy.

Beomeosa temple is the biggest and the most visited temple in Busan city. It have four gates very far from each other which takes at least 4 hours hiking to find and see them. It is also one my favorite temple to photograph people, building and also nature. There is also temple stay program and facilities.

Beautiful temple in Busan, easily accessed by public transportation, and then take a 15 min walk to the entrance. You can also get there by taxi. The place is quite big, so expect to spend there around 2 hours. There are other related facilities beside and behind the main building. Enjoy the view. Highly recommend!

A big Korean temple ground. Theres a temple stay program too. The grounds have similar layout to the Palace. Towards the left side, theres a hiking trail to higher ground and presumably another temple. Theres a stream running, collect drinking water there. I did.

A one of the most important Buddhist temples in Busan. Its quite large compared to other temples. I read many recommendations to visit it but for me it wasnt impresive. You can also hike some trails around the temple.

We did a templestay here and it was beyond perfect. Wandering around the temple before sunrise was such a peaceful and beautiful experience. The temple itself is so interesting and rich in history. The surroundings are really picturesque - I recommend walking from the town up to the temple - its only about 3k and while it is uphill, it goes along through the woods and isnt too hard.

A bit off the city but still accessible. You will see monks doing their service and patrons doing their prayers. There are hiking trails connected to the temple which are nice to explore.

The temple has been visited several times before, but it is one of the temples that has a different charm from season to season. Also, the accessibility is good enough to get there by public transportation. If you travel to Busan, it is a good place to visit.

Beautiful and peaceful grounds. The 90 bus took us directly there and entering the temple was free. There was a man right at the first gate who gave us some of the history and it really helped the overall experience. He was actually a volunteer. There are some vendors and at least one cafe along the way. It was definitely worth the trip.

A favorite destination all year round. A great place to wind down after a hike or stop for a mid day visit. Gets a bit crowded during the major holidays, but dont miss it during the days around Buddhas birthday. The whole place gets beautifully decorated with colorful lanterns and is fantastic at night or day.

Great place to find some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Busan. Its a little outa the way, but not too hard to get to. Take metro line 1, almost to the end (to Beomeosa station). Then catch bus.90, which is less then a 5 minute walk from the metro station. The bus drops you off at the ticket booth. Its only a 10-15 minute hike/walk from the ticket booth. I practically had the place to myself. Only a few tourest apear to make the journey. Probably bacause it is so far from the KTX station. The ticket agent just waved me by without paying. Seems to be common in Korea.

A great walk up to Beomeosa, surrounded by hills and greens. Several temples but all equally interesting and charming. Many old relics, nice statutes and historical background being written on boards. A great panoramic view of the hills and beyond when one gets to the top of temple. The area is very clean and well kept.

Temple is slightly out of the way but the view is worth it. Not much to explore in this temple and the highest point is actually a temple stay (free stay for 1 night to anyonehence we are not able to access. We spend around half an hour here giving a miss to the fortress which there are few around.

Beautiful and serene place near Busan city center. It was a trip worth while even though it took 2 hours to get there by subway and bus. There’s a short uphill walk to get to the bus stop from the subway station, and another short incline to reach the temple entrance but being such a beautiful place, it’s worth every step. I went on a rainy day but instead of being a hassle, I think the rain added to the beauty of this place. The architecture of the temple is amazing and thinking how old this place is, it truly is magnificent. Take in all the colors of Beomeosa and go hiking if you have the time.

A magnificent one thousand year old Temple dedicated to the great Indian Prince -Siddharta who later because the the enlightened Buddha. The way to come here from the Beomeosa Station is to take bus number 90 which goes around in a loop. This Temple is a living Temple and has a constant flow of devotees from all over the world. For those who do not want to pay for the bus can walk up a very steep and challenging flight of stairs which may lead to Nirvana.

Love this place. We were not sure if going on a rainy day was going to be a good idea but it was perfect! With an umbrella in tow you can explore the temple but then make sure you explore outside the temple and up the hill. The surrounding landscape has streams and paths that are so beautiful to explore. A lush and bird rich environment. We even saw a squirrel! 🐿

Its worth it, to walk all the hill up to Beomeosa through the Forrest Path to Beomeosa. See the locals chilling by the little stream floating down from the hilltop. There are many opportunities to have a drink, or make a rest and eat something on the way up.If you prefer the easy way theres also a Bus driving you nearer to the temple.Temple entry is free. Remind to be respectfull with the local behaviours.

This is my favorite temple in Korea, and there are a lot to choose from. The nearby rocky stream and piney forest add to the allure, and there is also a trail up the mountain tucked off to the side of the temple, which is well worth taking a day to conquer. If that wasnt enough, there is a great little museum at the complex with some historical artifacts.

The temples themselves are nice, you come across more amazing temples arounds Asia, but the setting is very pleasant - on top of a hill in the trees and the walk up is very well marked and a great way to get some fresh air if you fancy that (there is a bus that takes you up from the station if you dont)...

This is a fairly large temple in the mountains near Busan. Far enough up to feel away from the city, but easy to get to by the metro and bus. I did the overnight temple stay program over the weekend. It was great to get a tour of the temple with a monk. We also ate together, participated in and saw some ceremonies, and hiked one of the mountains to a smaller temple nearby. They had a translator, and we were lucky enough to have a monk who spoke English as well. Worth a visit for sure, and if youre interested in Buddhism and want a weekend away the temple stay was quite good.

Good thing takes time. This beautiful temple is located on the top mountain. It takes us many stop until we reached the nearest station to the location. You can walk up to the temple by enjoying the view from all the amazing trees that surrounds the mountains from the bottom to the top but I recommend you taking taxi because it’ll takes a pretty long time. When we arrived at the top, we were surprised how beautiful the building were. Although everything was built since long time ago, it looked new as it was just built because of the pretty colors. Every building has it own history and contain it own memory. There’s a prayer temple that people actually comes to pray. This experience is a must go place because all the beautiful maintain and buildings just what we don’t see in our busy city lifestyle.

A magical and beautiful place. This temple attracts quite a few visitors, especially on weekends. The walk up to the temple is gorgeous. The hike is not difficult and can easily be done with small children. There are plenty of places to stop along the way. If you are in Busan, you should definitely visit it!

Lots of monks walking around or praying shows that it is very much a working monastery. It is quite a climb up so comfortable shoes.
