Bella Italia in Taupo

Fantastic food and great atmosphere. Our kids loved the pasta and have insisted on coming back. So we ended up eating here twice in our 3 day trip to Taupo. Staff are great.

Hands down the BEST Italian Restaurant we have been too in my opinion! Beats all the ones in Auckland lol. Plus that drink i took a photo of was AMAZING! I want a bottle filled of that stuff lol. Wish i could of tried their steak though. Wish they do that for lunch as well as dinner. But still what i had was definitely on par with my mothers home made so 10/10! Plus the woman that helped us was amazing!

Visited Sorrento last weekend on a trip to Taupo. We booked a table in advance but unfortunately ended up sitting very close to a few other tables, despite there being a few tables free further away.There was a very nice wine list and this was a highlight.In terms of the food we really enjoyed the sundried tomato pasta, but the pizza was disappointing - the base didn’t taste very homemade. We also had the calamari which was fine and came with a nice sauce.Overall we were a little disappointed but enjoyed the experience & parts of the meal.

Great setting and nice Italian cuisine. There are special that can be try and the dessert is delightful average pricing is around $30 per main

Recently enjoyed a fantastic meal with friends at Sorrento in Taupo. We walked in without a reservation on a busy Friday evening and the team went out of their way to make space for us. We were so grateful that they could, as the meal was perfect and drinks were delicious with the perfect pinot recommendation by our waiter. All staff were cheerful and chatty and provided excellent service despite clearly being very busy. If we were staying longer than two days in Taupo I am quite sure we would have dined here more than once.

Very friendly, welcoming young staff member ( thanks Kirra, even though we arrived very early (4.30pmfor “dinner” after a long drive to Taupo.Service was excellent and attentive.The entrees ( especially the calamarireally hit the spot and the pasta/ pizza options were great choices.Definitely will return.

We had a great experience here tonight, they were short staffed so a limited menu, we were sitting next to the Kitchen, the Chefs seemed to be busy but real happy with what they were doing, and it showed in there food, 5 stars for sure.

Really great all around experience. Food was delish! The service was above and beyond both booking and during, and they accommodated a large group of 28 of us seamlessly.Would 100 percent recommend to make your trip to Taupo complete.A++ Time!

Wonderful service, from the moment we arrived. We really appreciated being given the choice of a standard table or a high table (but even these had chairs with a back, so would have been fine).The food was delicious. The beef cheek was melt in your mouth tender. The pork belly also beautifully tender. We ordered one side of broccoli between us, it was a very generous portion and suitable for two.

Nice atmosphere, portions were large. Food was good quality and tasty but quite a limited menu selection. Evening was entertaining thanks to the somewhat grumpy waitress otherwise would have given 4 stars.

Great service and fantastic meal! 5 of us shared a few starters before mains, followed by dessert. We all enjoyed our meals and the restaurant was humming with a wonderful atmosphere. Value for money and we would highly recommend!

Popped in without a reservation & the staff were so welcoming. The food was really good and two of the waiters managing the front really took care of us. Will defs become a frequent spot whenever we visit taupo again

Efficient service, food came out timely, atmosphere cosy and warm for a cold night in Taupo. Pizza was a good size to share between 2 people, chicken pieces a bit dry on the Pollo pizza, good rosemary flavour throughout fungi fettucine, but sauce a bit too salty, the fettucine could have been more fresh.

Came here for dinner. Had the bacon carbonara, prawn spaghetti and some chunky chips. The carbonara was thick and flavourful. The prawn spaghetti is just ok for me, cant seem to figure the sauce in it. It is quite citrusy and sour, flavour not bad. Prawn was juicy and big.The chips was nicely battered and mashy inside which melts. Portion size was generous definitely.This resturant was fully packed and people continuously coming. Price was average high for these sort of places.Overall, worth coming to try as it does have authentic feel to it.

Exquisite food! The beef cheeks were cooked to perfection! I can recommend this restaurant highly! The wine selection is great, lots if Italian wines, peroni on tap, warm atmosphere, friendly staff. Do try it!

Had a wonderful meal at Sorrento restaurant last Sunday night. It was welcoming and warm in there and the two female staff that served us were really attentive and polite - so nice as it does impact your dining experience. My entrée pizza bread was so light and fluffy I almost wished I had ordered pizza but when my generous, hearty serving of beef cheek came, I was glad I had ordered it - it just pulled apart beautifully and was sooo good! Just what was needed on a cold Taupo evening. My friends had the pork belly and the steak, both of which looked appealing too so I look forward to trying one of those the next time Im in town. Will definitely be back! Thank you for the lovely evening.

My friend and I went on the spur of the moment to Sorento last night. We had the Chefs special chicken, cranberry and brie cheese pizza with the spinach and beetroot salad. Lovely welcome, and seated by the fire. The food was delicious, the service spot on. One of my favourite places to dine and happy to recommend to anyone.

Went for dinner here for my kids. The service staff were very friendly. They had quite a full restaurant of people dining, and things were a little slow but understandable given staffing issues around COVID. Everyone has been hit similarly. One or two ingredients were not available for items we ordered but they were able to substitute where they needed to and they kept us informed. The food was good and the meals were a good size too. I want to go back and try some more cocktails 🥰

We spent our Saturday evening at Sorrento’s and was happy to have had a reservation as all the tables were full and was seated immediately which was great.Orders were taken quickly, our appetizers came out at the same time as our mains unfortunately and was a bit disappointed with the quality of the pizza bases.The pasta was absolutely DELICIOUS Fettuccini Carbonara and our Calamari and Garlic Bread was fantastic. 3/5 star review for us.Great service 🙂

Best italian cuisine weve had in Taupo. Very authentic. Made us want to re-visit Italy 🥰This will be our go-to restaurant the next time we visit Taupo. My husband loved the beef cheek with risotto and the pasta that I had in the restaurant and the take away that I had the previous day was simply exquisite! Plus the tiramisu...so divine! 😋🥰 And to make our experience there even more superb was the friendly staff and the beautiful set up of the restaurant. Well done guys!

Had such a good meal there, we went again 4 days later on our way back thru taupo. Great menu, lovely waitstaff and nice venue with some outdoors dining.Would thoroughly recommend it.

The best place and so accommodating! All the staff were wonderful on a busy night and the food/menu was amazing. We had a family of 30 people looking for a restaurant for our mothers 65th birthday and had left it to the last minute to book anywhere. Sorrento made it happen for us as the manager rallied her staff and got us in at 6pm! I was so relieved and our family loved it. Such a nice setting and we had a table in the upstairs of the restaurant so our big group could sit together and enjoy a 65th birthday.

I felt biased treatment from the manager looking staff.Yesterday, 22-01-22 at 7:30pm we 4 went for dinner. We did not book.We were taken to none organised dining table of 8 at the end opposite to the kitchen and next to the toilet entry with chairs.I asked if the table of 6 or two tables of two next to each other that were well organised and had sofa, can be given to us. There was no “reserve” sign on them. That male staff said that on a Saturday night at this time if you come without booking this is the table I can offer you, we have many reservations for the night. We finished at 9:15pm and all those tables were still empty.Food was great, mock tails were overpriced and not worth.We hope this was one off treatment and wish to visit again on our next trip just to respect the food and the kitchen team.

We arrived just before 8:00 pm and wanted to order some wine and starters, but were rushed to order the mains as the owner told us that they will be closing the kitchen shortly, even though other tables kept on coming after that. Not a very welcoming hospitality, rather a disappointment, I assume the customer is not that important to them.The olives were warm and flavourful, both the pasta dishes were excellent. We wanted to order some more wine and desserts, but were afraid to ask so left for a different venue.

Welcoming atmosphere, attentive staff and the food was delicious. As regular diners we always rate the best places and make no comment on the average. Beef Carpaccio was perfect, the Prawns had a yummy crunch on the outside accomodating flavours were delicious and we finished with a Pizza to pick at and take some home while we enjoyed our cocktails. Everything was yummo. Highly recommend.

Serving is huge and food is great.The ambiance is thumbs up to.

We had the most amazing meal here last night, everything cooked to perfection.. and the cocktails we beautiful ... It was the best calamari Ive had in Taupo!! The staff were amazing and made the atmosphere even better. WELL DONE SORRENTO.. 5 STAR ALL THE WAY

We had such an amazing experience at this venue. Called in for a drink and light share platter early afternoon, saw the menu so went back the next night for dinner. Can not fault either the meals or the service! Amazing all round. Meals are so full of flavour, very generous portions and the staff are super friendly and attentive.

Possibly one of the best places in Taupo to go for dinner, as the service is great and the food is always amazing! Had the Chicken Fettuccine pasta with a side of Green salad and a Chicken wood fired pizza with Mojito mocktails. The Green salad was a huge serving with walnuts, and with the pasta it was just lovely. The Mojito mocktails can be addictive too. Love the atmosphere and music. We arrived just after 5pm and found a park straightaway. We didnt have to wait long and just as we were about to eat, it got pretty busy. 😅 The staff are just so well presented and very welcoming. Thank you Sandy and Roger, its always a great experience dining at your restaurant. 👍🏻

Yummy food and a great ambience. The menu price is affordable too. The lamb shank fell nicely off the bone and the salmon was perfectly cooked. We had a few dishes and they were all tasty. I wouldn’t recommend the calamari, it was a $17 dish and only had about 7/8 pieces. Would have given a 5 otherwise.

The staff was friendly and the cocktail was fantastic, though the risotto was too salty for me and the tiramisu was disappointing as it was too sweet. Likely just my taste is different from the majority :(

Thanks for taking me (9ish)... as an experienced Exec Chef with a good deal of Italian cuisine skills I was somewhat disappointed with the meal. I had spinach beetroot and feta salad with balsamic and walnuts... underwhelming to say the least... canned baby beets ( plenty of lovely fresh cheap beetroot in the market, spinach leaves raw walnuts ( toasting would add a nice nutty crispnesstasteless feta (what to say)and no real balsamic flavor (where from. Brand? I would change it or reduce it to embolden then flavour).... I was thinking my taste buds were not working but the ginger beer was fine. I also had the lasagne but it too was tasteless. Lack of seasoning, no basil/oregano/wine/ garlic/ carrotceleryonion evident... bland tomato sauce... overall really average. Presentation fine but there would have been more flavour in a 4n20 pie and cheap tomato sauce...

AMAZING...the closest word I could find to describe this restaurant. Great atmosphere, service and food!! This is a great place to escape the low tempretures and enjoy authentic Italian dishes. Serving authentic Italian pizzas, pastas, entrees and coffees, this is the place you want to be.

Osteria should be on your Lake Taupo itinerary. They have an eclectic decor, with plenty different kinds of seating.Food is certainly the highlight, be it the vegetarian pizza or clams for appetizers or salmon pasta and pork belly. The flavors are bright and luscious. Prices for most dishes are a bit more than other places, but not unexpected.Two minor points: Service is slow, even when the restaurant is not full (so order an appetizer). You also have to work to get attention of the waiters, for water or bill etc.

I loved the food they serve and clean, nice space to eat. Friendly staff and a nice fireplace. Overall I rate this beautiful restruant a 5 out of 5.

The whole experience was excellent, we got a choice of seat before the rush came as we had a reservation. We started with a pizza bread and trio of dips to share. The entree was stunning with all of the basil, olive and sundried dips being very much the perfect accompaniment. For mains we had the veal and pork belly, both were equally lovely with the pork being in the top 5 Ive had. We matched it with an Italian red. The whole experience was excellent and well worth the visit
