Beechwoods Nature Reserve - Nature reserve in Cambridge, United Kingdom
Early October evening, around 16.00...Just stunning
Beautiful walk in the forest on our way out of Cambridge to the airport!
It is a gorgeous woodland with clear and easy paths.
Lovely quiet place to go. Found a lovely spot for a picnic, shame theres not so many benches and bins around.
Nice unique beech woods. Tall mature beech trees with a high canopy make for an interesting walk. Some dog owners are unable to keep their dogs on leads or manage to clean up after themselves. There is a lot of dog mess so keep an eye on where you walk and especially if youre taking kids.
Beautiful ancient forest, nice short hike. There a small parking spot across the entrance.
Magical place all the year round Great Little Gem well worth a visit or Sunday stroll. Bike racks can be found just pass the entrance Gates If You Can can fit your bikes through the turnstile
Great place to go for a walk. Makes you feel as if you are inside a big forest
Its pretty and a nice little walk.
Lovely, well kept, woodland. The only downside is it is quite small so its very quick to walk around and we saw quite a few other people.
Many trees, free parking and cute mushrooms
Free limited parking near the entrance, a few areas to sit (on trees and benches), lovely quick walk.
It’s not the longest of walks but it’s lovely when it’s all beautifully green and dense. Well worth a good 30-40 minute stroll
Beautiful scenery. Small wooded area. Perfect for smaller children and dogs. Off road parking. No cafe or toilets.
Beautiful place. We and the dogs love it! A safe and fun place for dogs to go off lead and roam.
Nice walk in the woods. Very well kept. Worth the trip out to get a little nature.
Quite a short walk but a very nice woods to walk through 😀
Lovely place for a walk, shame its cut short by the golf course next doors. Im sure far more people would get enjoyment out of that space if it re-forrested. You also get the sense that there used to be a footpath that ran over that land. No doubt the fancy pants with the flat caps were disgruntled by the riff raff crossing their lovely putting green.
Relaxing and quite place!
Great place for a walk. Not huge, so were not talking hiking - perhaps three quarters of an hour to go round. Lovely trees and other nature. Parking available in a muddy layby opposite the entrance. Shame dog owners cant keep their animals on a lead as requested. Obviously not a criticism of the lovely beechwoods, just a snarl at inconsiderate dog owners!
Really beautiful, and so easy to get to. Makes you feel like you are miles away from civilization, when in reality, the city is within touching distance!
Nice but quite busy, especially the parking on the road - its a 60mph limit and people dont like slowing down.
Lovely little forest, easily accessible by car from Cambridge. Perfect for (not onlyautumn walks with small children. Very good for showing them different kinds of trees and observing how forests change during seasons. Good alternative to more well known Wandlebury country park that mighh get full.
Lovely trees, would have been a nice touch to have more signs throughout the reserve about the various flora.
A nice walk, not very long
Its a nice nature reserve though more for dog walks as there is no much green for a picnic, neither park for children or toilets. It was great for a walk in the nature.
Fantastic place for a short walk or a picnic. Very quiet. Free parking.
Lovely wooded walk. Parking isnt fantastic due to small layby opposite.
~Parking is a little tricky (around 10 roadside places and then cross fast road to get in).~No river or den building area or play area. Just forest and path.~Some bike racks - but on the other side of a non-bike-friendly gate, which is strange.~Nice sheltered walk with around 3 or 4 routes you can take. Ive spent 1.5 hours there with two kids (3 and 5 years old).~A big (rumor has itbomb crater in the middle that the kids love running around.
It was OK - ofc its no Galloway. Alsmost marshy after rains so use proper boots. Some paths are more slippery. You will just be walking peacefully among tall trees, which I guess is what all one should be looking for when visiting this place and for that its good. Road outside widens a bit for about 40 metres stretch or so to allow some parking in an otherwise national speed limit road. We were lucky as it had rained so not many there, but i doubt you will always find a spot - so plan accordingly. Bikes are not alloowed inside (except maybe if you are pushing it along).
Very pleasant woods. Large enough for a stroll, but not really big enough to feel youve really got away from it.
Beautiful in every season. Mostly looked after by those using it. Rare orchids. Great dog walk.
Very nice place ... in autumn is amazing. Only one note, there is no parking area.
This is a small wooded area located to the south of Cambridge. As the name suggests, its mainly consists of Beech trees. it is quite small and it would be difficult to make a walk longer than about 2 km.I visited the woods in Autumn (Fallwhen the trees were in full colour and lots of brown crispy leaves on the ground. It was quite lovely and I enjoyed my visit. If you live near Cambridge it is worth a visit; however because of its small size its not worth a longer trip. Hopefully my photos will give you an impression of what its like in the Autumn.
Nice walk but very hard to get to on a bicycle, dangerous even.
I love walking through here, so many different species of trees, bushes and woodland creatures to see and such pretty walks, especially when the sun is shining. Great for a different walking experience.
It is a short 30 minutes walk, but the mature trees put you right in the middle of calm surroundings, as only nature can. We enjoy this walk at different times of day and types of weather as the light changes the colours so much
Lovely walks ad quiet peace c have a snacks over views
Stunning peaceful area that is unspoilt by people. Lovely small walking area with a few benches for any time of year. Limited parking on the road which restricts the amount of people visiting which is a positive. Dogs are allowed in the area but would recommend a leash as the area is not fenced.
Beautiful, magical, little wood, great place for the kids to make a den or for a 20 minute dog walk. Especially beautiful in autumn.
I have to admit that I was rather underwhelmed when I arrived, perhaps I was anticipating something more from a "nature park" than a wood with a track running up and down. However, it probably fits the advertised description so you cant really complain. Whilst there is inherent beauty in an old established wood, this one is rather patchy, there are some elegant oldish trees in the middle, there are a lot of brackish youngsters around the outside. Every person I met had a dog. Overall, I would describe this as a work in progress, come back in 25 years or so.
Escape the summer heat with a visit to the beech wood glade, definitely worth a visit. Short distance from the city, features sweeping panoramic views of the country side. Not the largest glade but very beautiful.
Nice woods for a short walk. Great for dog walking. Never been too busy but there are usually a few people around. There are some parking spaces on the road next to the entrance.
Delightful woods outside the city limits. The original ancient woods have expanded in the last 20 plus years, the slope below was planted almost doubling area.I start my walk at Nightingale Rec near the city limits, walking along Worts Causeway you can duck down behind the hedge finding a pathway leading all the way to The Beechwoods.Peaceful, a lovely place to walk, nice to get away from tarmac and concrete. As a kid I loved playing in The Bombhole, a huge crater near the entrance. Sadly filled in now, probably reaction to H&S.
Hadnt been here since I was a kid. Theres now a new section to the woods alongside the old one. Very quiet and a good place to take the kids and the dog to run off some energy. Parking available in the layby directly opposite the entrance gate.
Round trip of about a mile. Beautiful views of Cambridge and surrounding countryside. Good woodland pathways.
Beautiful place for a quiet dog walk. Nice and sheltered and a poo bin at gate.
Lovely maintained beechwoods which is popular with dog walkers and great for children to run off some energy. Interesting array of fauna and flora for nature lovers. At its best on a crisp autumn day.
Lovely tranquil spot.
Beautiful small wood- great for short walks for people and dogs. Nice & dry in summer but might be tricky in wet winter. Not arduous- pretty level- if you are not athletic. 2 -3 park benches at different spots to rest. Parking on road opposite
