Beda's Biergarten - German restaurant in San Luis Obispo, United States
Lovely selection of sausages, schniztels, and beers. The cheeses are delicious - our favorite was the Cambozola, which we put on the potato dumplings (Knödelwith stone ground mustard. The staff was friendly and prices were good for the amount of food and drink served
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🍻 A legendary spot with amazing and authentic German food. They also have a rotating tap of German brews. I had the joy of experiencing this charming little restaurant and I probably will come back there everytime I visit SLO from here on out. Its seriously some dang good food. 🍻 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Always helpful service. This visit especially cause I was that customer who had to ask what everything was. Thank to her patience I ordered more food.
Friendly, casual, fast service and delicious authentic German food as well as a craft beer selection very much worth sampling. I had a late lunch here while visiting SLO (it was recommended to meand I will definitely be coming back.
Great German food and beer. Pretty authentic. Visited again 2022 and its just as good which means its awesome.
Service was fast, and the food was amazing. Its pretty laid back on weekdays and has a nice warm vibe.
Great outdoor seating and good selection of beers. The spätzle was incredible; best I ever had. Also had some interesting dishes that I hadnt seen before at other German restaurants. The option for unbreaded schnitzel is appreciated. Staff was friendly and prompt.
Friendly staff, tasty sausages, and delicious beer too!I lived nearby for about a year and Bedas was my go to place for a pint. Come a few times and youll notice most of the patrons are familiar faces. If you stay long enough you may even meet Beda and Helga, the owners who love to come around and chat. There arent many Biergartens in this style around, and since the restaurant makes many of its dishes by hand (Fries, Soups, and the curry ketchupthe homestyle quality is something I will greatly miss!
Absolute German perfection the way Germans expect. Every dish we shared and every beer we drank was pure heaven. The service was prompt and kind, and the atmosphere matches its laid back calm and rustic beer garden vibes. A great place to come with or without children, indoor and outdoor covered seating and lots of beers on tap, and a few in bottles and cans as well.
Great outdoor patio area, amazing selection of German-style beer, outstanding food and helpful staff.
We are long time lovers of Bedas Biergarten. It is one of our favorite restaurants in San Luis Obispo. We have spent date nights, graduation parties, and early morning World Cup watch parties at this restaurant and each time it is truly a wonderful experience. I am writing my review here today because we just hosted our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at Bedas and it was also fantastic! The food is exceptional, as always, but what really sets Bedas apart is the hospitality of Beda himself, who is frequently on site to welcome guests with his trademark jovial attitude. His daughter can also frequently be found waiting tables and hosting guests and is just as much of a joy. We love Bedas and will definitely be eating here many many times in the future, this time as husband and wife!
Great food, excellent service but took quite a while to get the food.
This is my favorite place to get beer in SLO. They have a great selection and everything is excellent. The food is alright too. Definitely a fun atmosphere.
Went there with the family- the food was great and my husband loved the beers! Will definitely be back!
Everything is good… highly recommend the jagerschnitzel. The spinach side is just the right amount of garlicky and the curry ketchup with fries is amazing!
Classic and solid food place, everything is good you cant go wrong ! friendly staff and the beers are fresh. Cant wait to go back, 5* for sure
I put 5 stars because it is great for California’s standards. If you’re European, you might be a but disappointed with this European food (limited choice, some flavor a bit different). But overall it tasted great for a great price.Cider was too dry for me, snd the spinach salad was very dry too
I’ve never had German food before, but I feel like I was meant to eat this food. It’s amazing
Nice little place with a shaded "beer garden" with tables out front. Excellent authentic German food, many different German beers on tap. Friendly staff. Definately will go back to eat and drink beer. You should too!The owner "Beda" is a jolly fellow and makes the rounds when hes there, to come say hello and offer up some humor. Family owned and operated. One of my favorite places in SLO.
I was very impressed. Its hard to find German food. It is done well here!Frickadellen!!!!!! TASTY... Jägerschnitzel!!!!Yes yes and more YES. Kind staff, great place. If you could get some authentic brotchens.... it would be six stars
Awesome food with generous portions. The beer selection was great, and the staff were very friendly. A definite go to!
Beda catered my wedding! I highly recommend Beda, he communicates well and is very professional. The food is some of the best around, he made the catering portion of my wedding a breeze! The restaurant is clean and when they catered I noticed how seriously they took cleanliness and sanitation. The staff are all friendly and create a pleasant and fun dining experience. Also, if you like beer, theyve have some tasty options available!
Kind service, the food arrived pretty fast and was very good. The schintzel was made very well, but needed some more salt/ seasoning (I did take the one without gravy tho). The place itself was lovely and the beers were great. We had a lovely time.
Best place to go for good German food. Get the “flight” and sample all their phenomenal beers, treat yourself to some currywurst and do not skip the sauerkraut. It is not an understatement to say that the meal I had here nourished my soul and the sauerkraut was possibly the best I’ve ever had. Also the staff is phenomenal- super kind and honestly fun to chat with :)
Good selection of beer, delicious, authentic food in large portions, and good service. I would definitely come back here. The location isnt ideal but it is what it is.
I really wish that these rating systems allowed for you to go from 0 to 10 instead of one to five. Because I would give this place a nine from my experience. But I guess I sadly have to give it an eight. Waitress was super attentive the food was delicious same with the drinks, definitely a fantastic experience
The food was authentic and tasty. The schnitzel was just like the schnitzel in Austria. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. Well be back.
Tried potato salad, spetzle, bratwurst, jagerschnitzle and cooked cabbage.Brat in pretzel bun was pretty good. Cabbage was ok. Schnitzel was super tough 😭 and inedible. Everything else was ok but uninspired at best.Go for the beer?
Love the Jaeger Schnitzel and the Beda Burger is fantastic also! Their fries are the best, especially with the curry ketchup! Always fantastic, love this place!!!!
I stopped by on a business trip. When your hometown is Nurnberg, of course you try Nurnberger Bratwurst from the menu. The Nurnberger Bratwurst I ate has absolutely nothing to do with Nurnberger Bratwurst. It is actually a disgrace for Nurnberger Bratwurst. No taste, they probably forgot the spices, half fried, too big, actually not good. Would be the same, if I would serve pork chops in Germany and have it as Texas Ribeye Steak on the menu. Please stop selling these Bratwurst as Nurnberg Bratwurst.Beer was good, and I dont know anything about the other food on the menu. Therefore two stars, despite the Nurnberger Bratwurst deserve zero stars.
OMG food and service is spectacular... Delicious and flavorful onion soup and beer to start
I had several bad experiences with German food in the past, and decided It just wasnt for me. After years of pleading from my coworkers to join them at this place I finally relented. All I can say is that it been a life changing experience. I absolutely love most of the things I have tried, and nothing has been off putting like past experiences. I have tried all the breaded cutlets, spicy shredded chicken pretzel sandwich, all of the sausages, and onion soup, soft pretzel, and apple strudel and they have all been great. I really like the mash potatoes, potatoes dumplings, and fried taters as well.Im so glad I gave this place a chance, I take back what I said about German food, but Bedas is still the Wurst, haha! Its now one of my favorite lunch spots. The service is always exceptionally awesome, and the venue has its pleasant charm.
Very good authentic German food from schnitzels, to wursts and salads. A little like being back in Germany. Beta brands well and the decor is trendy. The outdoor seating is cozy and spacious at the same time. Good service although they dont speak German. Find Beta to practice your German, hes there all the time.Best selection of German beers in SLO county.
Always super friendly, attentive service at Bedas! Love the beer and wine list. I always start with potato pancakes. Dine here with people who dont mind sharing! Its fun to have a little of everything. Adore all the choice of sides. Just a fun place to linger.
I have been coming to Bedas over the course of a year. They are right around the corner from the local swimming pool. Having a curry wurst and and cider after swimming is just an amazing treat.Slowly I have been trying different items on the menu and they are all delicious. I have even starting having German food urgings for sauerkraut which I did not enjoy before. Probably helps that Bedas . sauerkraut is magic and the little bits of bacon dont hurt either. The food hits keep coming and with an amazing staff including Beda himself and Andrew, Daniel, and all the friendly servers this is just a nice place to relax and have a pint (or two).Beda calls this sense of community and friendship "Gemütlichkeit". While I dont know how to say it I know were to find it here in SLO.
One of my favorite spots on the California Central Coast. Beda is such a fantastic human and it is always a pleasure to chat with him when I stop by for a beer and brat. Everything is unique and tasty. Pretzel bun? Yes please! Where else can you find several of Germanys finest beers On Tap... few and far between.
Bedas was surprisingly good! Ive lived in SLO for five years now and while my friend and I always talked about going we never had. The food was on the pricier side of things, but really good. I got the schnitzel with a creamy mushroom sauce and I loved it. Would recommend getting the extra schnitzel for $4 more, its just so worth it.
Setting, ambiance, and decorations are all very well put together. Nice small outdoor patio in front and compacted inside seating with a bar. Service was slow, would only bring out 1-2 waters or any drink at a time. Food is plated not how you would expect, but it is tasty nonetheless. TVs for watching sports, many different sport events held there (super bowl, boxing etcEven though it was a pleasant time, Id only go back if I wanted a giant German beer.
Very very good food. They change up specials every now and then... I just need to go back more to finish trying the whole menu. Very tasty.
Currywurst - chicken sausage was good, but the "curry" tasted more like ketchup than actual curry. It was 100F the day I went and sadly they didnt have any air conditioning. Weissbier was good.
Good beer! Cute outdoor patio. Food is only OK, but overall a fun German-themed restaurant.
Found this place by accident and have not stayed way since that day. Amazing food, especially the fries and burgers at lunch. Weird I know. But everything we tried and tasted have been amazing. Staff is awesome and friendly. Pricing is incredibly reasonable. Hands down my favorite place when I come to SLO. We always end up staying for hours. Love you guys!!!
Been coming here at least once a month, or whenever I am in town, for 6 months now. Definitely a great place to find German beer and food. 9 taps which offer a variety of imported German beer. I have tried different ones every visit an have yet to have a bad one. Wife loves everything as well. The Frikadellenbrot (Beda Burgeris amaaaazingly delicious, (arguably best burger I have had)! It has become my go to spot when I am in SLO. There slogan "Bedas is the Wurst" fits the atmosphere of down to Earth beer tenders. Absolutely a must try for anyone wanting something other than another IPA.
We enjoyed our first meal with food service despite a very large and lively company gathering happening at the same time. I wanted to try their traditional German fare, so we ate weiner schnitzel (pork), sauerkraut, and pretzel with the traditional cheese & onion accompaniment called Obatzda. Everything was delicious, and hearty. We met the owner, Beda, and he was very friendly. We look forward to enjoying more meals at Bedas Biergarten.
Good food and very kind owners and workers. A great place to relax with friends or family on a calm night
Wonderful friendly owner does a great job of trying to please most. Sometimes great meals come out of the kitchen & sometimes not...especially when packed. My German friend was less than impressed & some others do not think it too authentic. Definitely, the second best in town for some Eastern European eats. Strong points is on the beer, sausages, & snacks. Black Forrest Cake is homemade.
Very authentic northern German food. Great German beer with lots of selection. For the price I thought the portions were a bit small. Well made Kazespaetzle made with Gouda (northern Germanfor a different flavor vs my Schwaben/Bavarian/Swiss roots.Service and atmosphere were great.Highly recommend.
I love Bedas! This is a true family-run business with fantastic food. i cant speak for the authenticity as Ive never been to Germany, but the flavors are fantastic. I go here specifically for the pretzels... they are worth it just by themselves! There are a few options for vegetarians, mostly the pretzels, salad, and spatzel (the only vegetarian dinner item, but delicious and with enough variety I dont get tired of it). The beer options are also great. Cant get enough of this place!
I have missed German food ever since moving back from Berlin. I was very excited when Beda opened his restaurant and he certainly didnt disappoint. The quality of the food and the atmosphere is amazing. I have been working my way through the menu and love each item. A must for anyone in the area!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious, authentic, German food. I also love the covered patio during the summer and warmer months of the year. Their beer selection is awesome as well, with tons of authentic German choices. Prices are fairly reasonable for the area as well. Overall, its a great choice if you want to eat, have a beer, and relax.
