Bearsden Bathhouse - Historical landmark in Bearsden, United Kingdom
A must see
Great! Loved walking around this Roman bath house on the Antonine Wall.
Fascinating site, well described and clearly labelled. An excellent visit.
Great sense of history here.
Entrance is off Roman Road. Set of ruins is small, but nice
An interesting place to visit if youre passing. 15 minutes is plenty of time.
Nice little bit of Roman history in the middle of Bearsden I didnt know anything about until recently. We arrived at the car park just 1 minutes walk away from the Roman Bath House site. We paid Β£1 for an hours parking as we knew it wouldnt take to long to go and visit the Roman site. The site itself is well maintained with a nice little bench perched on an elevated grassy incline which is good for a wee seat if its a nice day to take in the scenery. If you are like me and love all things Roman then this is a treat! There is also the base layer of the Antonine wall which is inside a cemetery just 5 mins drive from the Roman Bath House which is worth a visit.
So interesting.
Nice if small easy find & free good add on to any trip in area.
Interesting place if you like this type of stuff
Not much to see really. Pleasant enough site, well maintained and tidy.
Nice site well explained with the notices at the gate translated into "dog Latin" (pick up after your dog and the usual swimming pool warnings!π)
Great to look at, a great piece of history!
Nice little attraction, not enough for more than twenty minutes or so, but interesting to see.
Cant remember passing through the way but that picture looks like seeing a blown away π
Nice to have ancient Roman ruins so close to home π
My 5 year old loves the connection with the past the bathhouse gives on our regular dog walks. Unfortunately we always leave with more questions than I can answer, especially "why did the Romans leave?" and "what happened to their baths and buildings, why have they all fallen down?". Unfortunately both above my pay-grade! π
Really interesting place to come across on a walk on a sunny night..
Amazing Roman remains in Bearsden. Well preserved bath house with pools. Information is given on signs to help visitors understand the site. Free access. Well worth a visit.
Well worth a visit to the Roman baths in Bearsden. Gives you a good insight into how the Romans lived in this outpost of their conquered territory.
Visited on a damp deck l dreek day, interesting and well kept site. People believe that the Romans didnt come further north than Hadrians wall, if this is still your belief then this is a long way to travel for a bath π
I always enjoy seeing old places and this was no exception. Really interesting to see what used to be here. Also well preserved and thank you for the info posters.
Interesting roman ruins incongruously situated near flats
Worth a visit best combined with visit to wall section at new Kirkpatrick cemetery
This ancient ruins of the Antonine Wall is mostly just the stone foundation and lower sections of the wall and bathhouse of one of the forts that once guarded the wall. Itβs one of the better remnants of the Roman period in Scotland around the vicinity of Glasgow. The interpretation goes a long way into imagining the site as it was. ts not the most extensive site there is, but plus one for the archaeology and interpretation. I was in Bearsden anyway and I thought Iβd take a look.
Itβs an interesting area of historical relevance, showing where the Romans stayed in Scotland, but itβs not actually very much to see. I think it is right to keep it as it is part of our history, and itβs great to be able to walk to it and see that history, but I would not say it is worth making any kind of special journey to see.
Great Roman engineering. Steam room, sauna, cool room, changing room and pools complete with drainage system and toilets.
If you are interested in archaeology, history or the Romans in Britain this is well worth a visit. Go when the weather is good as there is no shelter. Best preserved Roman bathhouse in Scotland
Love seeing the history of scotland and the bath house is no exception
Great piece of history, and to see the pictures made up of how it would have looked back when the Romans where in Bearsden are outstanding, it was as if Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony were there in the bath with me, definitely a very spiritual place and well worth a visit.
This is an extremely interesting and detailed piece of archaeology and you canSee that they the Romans had such technology in mind set at this antionine bath site
It is surprising what remains after thousand of years. The bathhouse layout is still clearly visible. The whole complex is really surprisingly small and being placed amongst housing blocks slightly out of place.
You get a feel for the place but more information about the wall Fort and roman life would be helpful.
I visited here, only takes 20minutes to go round it all but worth it to see some roman history in Scotland. Gives you an incite to where the Antoine Wall was. Also visited the Hunterian museum for its Antoine Wall Exibit
Roman Bath House.. It was interesting. I never thought Roman got to Scotland at all.
Its a ruin but the information plaques are worth reading because it provides a bit of ancient history for the region
It was great! It had a detailed map of the place and you learned about ancient times
Small but nicely preserved. The layout of the bathhouse practical and modern. Seemed out of place sandwiched by high flats on a busy road.
Not a whole lot to see, but these are Scotlands best preserved Roman ruins, so its as good as it gets this far north. The setting, in the middle of a modern housing estate is a bit unusual!
Good example of a basic Roman bathhouse.Only foundations and first course remain but there is a good illustration and everything is there.Recommended.
Best stone remains from the Anyone Wall
An okay place to visit. A bit difficult as it is almost private being surrounded by flats and have to enter through the flats. No dogs allowed.
A virtually unknown site of great historical significance
The Antonine wall which ran from Bowling on the Clyde to Grangemouth on the Forth and was a defensive feature effectively splitting Scotland in two was very close to this important historic site. The Romans were well known for their bathhouses and many examples exist in every corner of their empire but this ones in leafy Bearsden and is so readily accessible to anyone.
Roman bathhouse.Off the main road. You can see the remains of the bathhouse buried.Tgere are a few useful signs explaining what each part was.
A small but surprisingly well preserved site in the heart of Bearsden. Well worth visiting for anyone with an interest in history.
An unusual location for a bit of Roman archeology. A lot of imagination is required to see how the bath house would have looked like, as it is a ruin.If you are visiting Glasgow by car and are interested in Roman history in Scotland, definitely worth a visit.
Cool sight in the city. Informative display and its open to walk around and look at the ruin.
When you think this built about 1800 years ago a Roman Bath House and you can see the foundations Structure of the building if your into Roman history its good to to see. The bathhouse is surrounded by luxury flats think this how they discovered it. when doing to building of flats. its worth a visit. would make better tourist attarction if they had couple roman guards on patrol in Summer.
Well preserved romantic remains - open all year round
