Bautinn Restaurant - Restaurant in Akureyri, Iceland
Nice place and great attendance. The food is awesome, it’s very well located and there was enough room for me and my 11 friends hahaha
Big portions and waitress was very friendly when we asked for directions to supermarket! However food was on a slightly saltier side. Pasta was ok, but the steak wasnt well seasoned.
Fish and chips were good, atmosphere was slightly upscale, clean restaurant and pleasant.
We enjoyed a wonderful lunch of fish & chips and fish soup. The service was prompt and food excellent! The soup is described as creamy but it is not heavy or thick and a lovely filling meal. The fish and chips were lightly fried and fresh tasting. The fries were yummy too.
Had a very good pizza in a comfortable atmosphere. The waitress who took my order was very friendly, but “busy”. The others were stressed out and rude. Good food but not a very pleasant dining experience.
Delicious food, but be prepared for some waiting and the smell. :We had fish and chips and lamb chops, the food was really tasty. The thing we didn’t like is a long waiting, both to place your order and for the food to arrive. People on the table next to us gave up and left, without ordering, since nobody approached for 20 mins. Also, the ventilation is not that good, so all of our clothes got the kitchen smell. But the food was really good, so I would recommend eating here if staying in Akureyri. The prices are typical for Iceland - a bit high :)
We order pizza and was very very delicious!! We really lake the flavor and wnjoy eat there. You should try it
Rustic dishes, fresh and very well prepared. Extremely friendly service. Good value for money. Thank you!
Food was delicious, but the waitress was extremely rude!
Great food but we had an extremely rude waitress. The hostess was very friendly and got us seated right away. We sat there and multiple waitresses walked past us but never anyone greeted us to take our order. The hostess was seating some other customers and noticed and called a waitress over to us. She came over didn’t say a word and had a pad of paper and pen waiting for us to order. We assumed maybe she was just having a bad day but we saw when she went to other tables she was super friendly and laughing with the guests. She never did come over after we got our food to check in or ask if we wanted anything else. I felt very unwelcome there and wanted to leave as quickly as we got our food.
I liked this place overall. The location is great, the atmosphere is cool, and the service was great. However, we were there on a really nice day where the windows and doors were open and flies were all over us the whole time. The selection of affordable food is quite limited. Parking was quite difficult for us to find, so we had a bit of a walk down to the restaurant.
Food was good but most of the waitresses were rude. They show us a table with a dead fly on it, and when we asked to change the table, the waitress just use a napkin to pick up the dead fly! We decide to move to another table and she wouldn’t let us and insist we sit there where many flies are flying around!! She said every table is the same with the flies problem! What are you talking about, lady?! That this restaurant is not sanitary enough?! I probably won’t be going back as there are many other restaurants to choose from, and I would not recommend to others with such bad service.
It was very smoky inside. Waitress were lazy (or tiredwith zero smile. We were waiting a long time to make an order, finally went to the bar to ask to take our order. Dishes were good, but not excellent.
super unfriendly staff, they told us cooks are tired so waitera won’t clean up tables and we have to wait standing at the entrance.
The worst restaurant expirience in my life. 1 hour waiting in the queue for free table. Inside 4 empty tables. The manager told us that cooks need to rest for 20 minutes and we cannot order anything or sit at the table because its not ready yet (7 waiters inside literally do nothing). Dont go there.
The food is great, fish soup amazing, but their service is slow... You wait for a starter like it is a main dish. Then a soup takes as much time as it would take me to cook it from scratch
Very good restaurant in Akureyri Cente. I ate chicken with risotto and it was simply delicious. Appple and Orange juices were fresh. Nice service.
Excellent food. We can tell that lots of effort went into the food. Had the house special menu from 1971 and fish soup. Both were great. 1971 menu has beef steamed and then fried with vegetables. Vegetable salad with balsamic sauce would have been better instead of potato fries. Fish soup was creamy and tasted great as well. Highly recommended. This place seems quite popular so visit early.
Food was ok but holy smokes it was expensive. Credit card still smouldering. Burger and fries, couple of Gulls, fish soup and apple crumble came in at £70.
Well, I am a bit disappointed. Two burgers : 55$ ? French fries were not even fresh, the burgers were tasteless.Poor service. Felt it when we arrived. No smile, the attitude was weird. The two girls kept hesitating if they would receive us. When we ordered a dessert they told us that the one we wanted was not here. We decided to leave instead. I am amazed the waiter did not try to hook us up on something else on the menu. She just left us leave. Seemt like she was not speaking english properly enough.
Went to Bautinn for lunch. We requested a table for 6 and 1 child. The waitress scolded us for not communicating the correct number of people to be seated at the table and that we should have mentioned that we want a table for 7 persons. We specifically mentioned that we have a child with us because we wanted a highchair.Aside from the staff being mildly rude, the food was overall good. We ordered fish soup, vegan burgers and beef burgers. The fish soup was excellent and really tasty bread (focacciatoo! The burgers were good but nothing special.
The fish soup here was phenomenal, as was the service. Prices were also reasonable.
A lot of variety menu and i think all of the menu are tasty, i orderes lamb and chip and it just perfect.
Came here with an acquitance friend of mine whom we met during road trip!Hes andre, helpful german, who helped us by lending card for petrol gas as my card has some problem. He joined us for dinnerWe enjoyed our fish n chip, fish soup, lamb chop and local gull beers!Cheers andre and have a safe camping!
Visited for a late lunch with my husband and we had the misfortune (or as it happened were fortunateto be seated opposite the serving counter. We witnessed plates of food sitting on the serving counter for long periods of time, waiting to be taken to customers. The 3 waitresses were not rushed off their feet just disinterested. We thought at the time that the food waiting to go out must be part of larger orders, but that wasnt the case. One burrito, which we ended up nicknaming Billy, sat on the counter for over 20mins. (we were particularly interested in it as that is what my husband had orderedBilly the burrito waited alongside plates of burgers and fries, ribs, and tacos. A falafel salad then arrived on the other end of the counter (which is what I had ordered). 45 mins after placing our order and 10 mins after the falafel salad had been placed on the counter a bored and unhurried waitress picked up Billy the burrito from one end of the counter and the salad from the other and brought them to our table. We told her we didnt want a burrito that had been sitting there for 25mins and to her credit she didnt bat an eyelid and swapped it for another one on the counter (which had only been there for 10mins). My salad was OK, as was my husbands burrito, but nothing special. If we had not been sitting in that particular table, we would have just thought the service was extremely slow, but to witness the food being ready and just not taken to tables was unacceptable. I repeat, the staff were not rushed off their feet, they just stood around looking at the food.
Our group of four (including two vegans and a pescatarianfound the Bautinn to be a delightful place for lunch. Something for everyone and delicious to boot! Service was prompt and friendly. It was early afternoon and the place was empty, so I cant comment about busier times, but the service was friendly and attentive. I had heard that Icelanders like their burgers "saucy" but saucy tacos were a bit unexpected. Nevertheless, they were unique and surprisingly good. The vegan salad was pronounced "quite good", and the treats afterward were a real hit for all.
My partner and I walked into Bautinn yesterday evening looking for a table. Of course, Saturday night is always expected to be busy so we did not have high hopes - however neither did we expect to be completely ignored by the waiting staff. We stood in the entranceway for over five minutes. Multiple waitresses saw us and immediately looked away. We were not even acknowledged. We were very disappointed by this treatment and had no choice but to leave, as nobody would even look at us, let alone speak to us. Having both worked in hospitality for many years, we were extremely disappointed by this treatment and would not recommend this restaurant.
Good for a quick dinner but if you are looking for a night out, dont go there. When youre finished it seems like you had a bath in a frying pan, my clothes are still smelly (1 hour after weve left). Ive ordered one of there specials, had high expectations, but its much worse than a "special" at McDonalds. The location is good, staff is friendly and theres a big choice, but Im sorry, if you go for good quality, skipp this one.
After whale watching, we stopped here to have dinner. Beautiful place, very clean, place was packed. The menu, everything looked awesome. Finally decided on the grilled chicken risotto ( absolutely delicious, fantastic 😋 ). Cant wait to go back and try something different, highly recommend. 👍👍👍👍👍
Bautinn Restaurant is beautifully located and conveniently located in Akureyri. It exudes a pleasant warm charm to the outside. Therefore, the choice fell on this restaurant. In the guest area you sit nicely in the haze of the grill of the kitchen - so that after leaving you carry a less pleasant smell of "snack bar".As a menu I ordered Fish & Chips - for 3699ISK - so you expect a portion that is not made for children. In Iceland, Ive gotten much better and richer portions for much less. The ketchup was then charged additionally - is quite ridiculous - because it should actually be included as a service. All in all, no recommendation on my part - rather a bitter disappointment and as a tourist you feel somewhat ripped off here.Very pity.
Very popular place, there was a waiting list on a Thursday. Not a very big menu, nor Icelandic dishes, more of a mix of different cuisines. I got the salad with chicken and was delicious!
We liked Bautinn, but most choices are quite unhealthy (it’s also what we chose, I guess). We loved their brisket, it’s greasy, but really yummy (we shared 1 between two people). Overall, it’s a decent place for lunch or dinner.
Delicious food and very good, quick service. Fair prices. Shortly after being seated, the waitress asked me if I would like to move to a different table with more space, which I really appreciated.
Such a tasty food! Best in the town! We tried one of the burgers and the waffle chicken and it was amazing!!! Definitely recommend
Front hostess spoke perfect English and told us of all the top places to go as well as found us a table when there was otherwise a 2 hour wait! They no longer serve reindeer, whale, or shark however they have great pizza and BBQ.She told us that there isnt a high enough demand for that stuff outside of tourist season and its expensive to buy.
Food was fine and so were prices. It was so hot in the restaurant we could not stand it so requested a table on the sidewalk. Less than ideal but it was literally sweltering in there with no AC and were from FLORIDA!!! Anyway they obviously had some ventilation problems, because we went in another restaurant nearby packed with people and the temperature was fine. Food was just average and expensive for what we had. I had a fish soup with bread and it was all right.
We didnt have a booking but managed to book a table with a short wait. It was worth while. The food was delicious and the service excellent. The tables and chairs were cleaned between customers and the tables were well spaced. Definitely recommend.
The lamb chops and fish and chips were excellent. Fast friendly service
Great food, good portion. Better to call first for a table reservation since they are most of the time full (also due to Corona).
We came recommended by our tour guide that this restaurant serves many delightful foods. I love the pulled pork and lamb meal. The chocolate milkshake is to die for (warning it’s fattening!!But it’s so worth it! The food came quickly. This restaurant is toasty so ensure your clothes can be removed or you will be over heated - I do love it after many days in the cold.
Tentative staff and timely prepared food made this a great spot for dinner as we headed further east in Iceland! Loved the pork chops, risotto, and wings!! All for about $60 usd.
Delicious salmon!! Also, you should try the Akureyri taste, very interesting icelandic assortments.
Awesome chicken and risotto with a Gull beer with very fast and friendly service .
Extremely rude staff. Location is good.I ordered classes burger. Usually I don’t eat burgers,so can’t say if it’s good enough.Prices are not to high.Service (waiters- 0Food - 4Atmosphere- 3Location - 4Clothes smell after food - yes
We pulled into the town of Akureyri just after 9pm. We were in the mood for pasta and found Bautinn. They let us in after closing and we are glad they did. The staff was very nice and the food was even better. I ordered the grilled chicken with wild mushroom risotto and my wife ordered the spaghetti bolognese. I’m not sure if the portion sizes were larger becuae it was the end of the day or if they are normally that size. Either way, we were both happy with our choices. You’re probably looking at between 3.500 and 4.250 ISK p/entree depending on what you order.
Nice environment, friendly staff and nice sweet swiss mocha. The pork milanese was not bad. The beef special is better!
From a full menu of international food, a local Icelandic menu, as well as 2 soups of the day plus bread and/or a saladbar, this local restaurant serves tasty and satisfying homecooked food. The service was good. The prices were reasonable. The location was central to the town Top notch for our group!Very very very goodThanks for your
My family and I enjoyed our dinner at Bautinn with an all-you-can-eat salad and soup bar followed by a main course each. We shared the hashed fish, pan fried catfish, and pan fried artic charr. Laid back and family-friendly restaurant downtown. Typical “Icelandic price range”.
Most dinner entrees include self service soup and salad bar. Definitely worth it for those looking for some veggies.
A nice sit down restaurant after a long day touring. The place was busy but the staff was very attentive to our needs. The salad bar was very extensive, I havent seen one like this around. The prices were a bit high but seems on par with everything else in the area. The big plus was the kids menu items included a free ice cream.
