ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGThis was my best restaurant dining experience ever !!! The restaurant is unlike any that I’ve been to ... I’d call it the “anti-restaurant” :Why ? First of all, it has only 4 tables (round tablesin 2 adjacent rooms. There is lots of privacy, with each table partially hidden from the others. Second, the Zen-like interior reminded me more of a high-end museum than a restaurant. Third, there was only one server and she was fabulous. She was super friendly, had a great sense of humor and enhanced the dining experience .The 8-item tasting menu, which I believe is standard, was super (I wont list the items here because I dont want to ruin your experience). Every items presentation and appearance was immaculate. Everything about the restaurant deserves a WOW !!!!!! This is a great place to take a friend - special or not … I had a great time. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant to anyone who wants to take someone to a fantastic dining experience - I will be back

Did a takeout and like any other takeout orders it lacked finesse for the price. Probably wont do any more takeout. Would like to try out when indoor dining is safe.

Baume is an experience and while the tastes discovered may not always delight, it is a positive experience for anyone looking to hit the sharpest points in their taste buds.Came for the 8-course dinner, left with mixed feelings of highs and flats.Started high with the amuse-bouche; fresh and zesty, like running down the hill and tasting the wind of a breezy spring day.I was hoping for the standard foie gras, but it was pâté. Rich and creamy over their baguette, but it did leave a longing for the normal serving.Caviar over white asparagus followed; this was a hit or miss for me. Sometimes Id get it right, where it started with a fresh crunch from the asparagus, followed by a burst of caviar that unleashed the flavors of the ocean in your mouth. Other times, Id burst the caviar too early and when mixed immediately with the asparagus, left a somewhat bland flavor.Next was the jidori egg; note, you have to break the egg and enjoy the runny yolk over the (pearl?barley. Taste was savory, but mellow, with occasional sharp bitterness from the veggies; I liked it, but my companion mentioned it was a bit too chewy from the barley.I have no idea what the next dish was, but it was interesting. I believe it was scallops, but the texture was closer to tofu. It was served with roasted cucumbers that broke down without any effort. The fish was the only dish that was notably unappetizing. The flesh itself was cooked perfectly and the candied seaweed was great. The plating was beautiful and it looked amazing and set a high expectations. Unfortunately, the taste didnt match the looks. The veggies on the bottom had a strong bitterness and the sauce below the fish did not impart any strong and pleasant flavors. The squab was far the best dish I had that night; great sear, cooked beautifully red, coupled greatly with the bed of sauce, and tasted amazingly savory. Just cutting cleanly through the flesh piqued my appetite. The cheese course was flat. It was basically three bites of a honeyed cheese. The underlying flavor was very pungent and personally, may have needed a bit more honey.Dessert was absolutely amazing and was the perfect end to the squab and cheese. Presentation was lovely and starts disintegrating the moment its brought out. Sherbet and meringue with distinct and refined fruitiness. Left me with a satisfying zesty and slightly tart aftertaste.Personally, it shouldve ended there, but there is one little extra treat after the dessert. No need to ruin the surprise, but do be prepared for a sweet ending to the night.A couple of notes: theres definitely a lot of efforts to bring an authentic French experience to you. The plating seems to all have French-origins and have a refined feel to them. The baguette is half baked daily by a baker trained in France and finished once patrons are seated. The butter seems to be imported from France (as explained from the hostessand seems to have impressed my companion, who could not help but vehemently praise it in comparison to standard butter.Overall, its a pricey experience, but thats the point. Its meant to be an experience, not just dinner. The chef really does try to paint a palette of flavors, and its not necessarily going to always wow you, but it will awaken taste buds and flavors that seemed so dull or nonexistent before. I cant say you should come to be full, but rather come to test your culinary boundaries.

Incredibly overpriced, poor service, undesirable ambiance, and mediocre food are some of the things you can expect at Baumé.I still can’t believe that this place is associated with Michelin. We’ve been to most of the one, two and three Michelin Star restaurants in San Francisco. We decided to make the drive to Palo Alto to try out Baumé, despite some of the negative reviews. It was such a waste of a $1000. The meal wasn’t worth $398 per tasting menu. That’s more expensive than Manresa and Saison, both of which are 3 stars and will blow you away with the innovation and technique.I was surprised when the waitress leaned in to take away the napkin rings as I assumed she was going to place our napkins on our lap as most fine dining restaurants do. At Baumé, you put your own napkins on your lap and don’t expect it to be folded nicely when you return from the restroom either. The waitress is overly chatty to the point of being inappropriate and unprofessional. She mentions incidents from past dining experiences and laughs at her statements. She laughs a lot. One thing she doesnt speak a lot about is the food as she barely provides any explanation beyond a few words. The ambience is cold and undesirable. It felt like I was sitting in a church storage room. It’s not the type of interior where you envision enjoying a high end meal and celebrating a special occasion.I have very little to say about the food. It wasn’t anything special. I’ve had much better meals in non-Michelin starred restaurants in SF.Wine and the few cocktails that they offer are super expensive. For the firsf time at a fine dining restaurant celebrating a special event we choose not to drink. $45 for a saketini or $50 for a kir royal is extortionate. Furthermore there is no open kitchen or bar where you are able to watch the chef prepping this $398 tasting menu. Given the small amount of tables, you might expect to at least see the chef. However, he remains a mystery somewhere in back.

Excellent food, excellent presentation, excellent service , excellent quiet ambiance and atmosphere. It is a smaller sized restaurant that focuses on your experience so there is a very limited number of tables and positioned for very good privacy and separation. The food was very good, and the presentation even better. The combination of fish, squab and other delights was awesome. The reservation protocol is rather unorthodox and not very obvious, but once you get over that hurdle, its a great experience. The owners split with one being the chef and one providing the service. She was very warm and charming and their son helped in the back too. You might think this would lead to a mom and pop kind of restaurant, and technically it is, but the service, experience and professionalism is excellent. Just look at the picture attached. Awesome to look at and awesome to taste. It is rather pricey, as compared to other high end dining experiences. From a cost perspective, it is a relatively much higher premium for this category of restaurant.

Incredibly overpriced for what the food and wine pairings actually are. Turbot fish in 3 out of 8 courses, similarly omnipresent passion fruit, became the joke of the night for my wife and I. Even the most affordable wine pairing, will double the $400 Prix fixe option, running $1600 for a dinner for two - a price that is not remotely justified by the experience. My wife and I hit a Michelin star restaurant in the Bay area once a month. Baumé ranks distant last in our personal preferences

The presentation is amazing for both the drink and the food. Very intimate and only seats 8 people in the whole restaurant. The food is good but over priced in comparison to the quality of food you get at the French Laundy for the same price.

After visiting California for a couple days, I definitely recommend going to Baume Restaurant for a delicious meal either morning day or night for some great quality food! I the fact that its a small family owned restaurant with 2 Michelin stars. The chef is the owner and makes amazing and yummy dishes cooked by himself and his lovely wife serves the food with a genuine smile☺️

Just visited this place yesterday, and it was amazing. Its a small restaurant, run by only a chef (and a very good one at that, the place has 2 Michelin stars), and his wife, who acts as the waiter/hostess. The experience was worth every bit of the (admittedly quite expensivepricetag.

This is a vastly over priced and over rated restaurant. Dinner for two, with the least expensive wine paring goes for $1600+. It is probably worth 1/4th of that. The wine paring, $700 for two, is composed of vastly overpriced young wines. You have to admire the dedication, but the value is not remotely there.

Amazing restaurant. For it to be a small family owned, 2 star restaurant, it is pricey. The owner and his wife cook and serve on there own so you get to see the hard work that goes into the price that youre paying. You really feel special if you get to be one of the only eight customers that they serve everyday.

Loved Baumé. Ill break the components down more:Food and wine - great flavors, quality ingredients, creative presentation and more. Not my favorite but Ive been to a lot of 3 Michelin restaurants so its not a surprise but its definitely up there and possibly my favorite 2 star. Amazing wine selection and while the pairings are spendy, they are well worth it.Service - personal, warm and attentive. Yes, they are not heavily staffed like other establishments and you may have an empty plate in front of you for more than a second but highly orchestrated service with seemingly multiple dedicated servers is not the only formula for success. Id rank the service at Baumé as one of my most preferred.Ambience - this is one of the few high-end dining establishments remaining where you dont hear all the other diners conversations even when its a full house. This is because the owners are willing to sacrifice having a few more tables for some of the most amazing ambience Ive experienced in a while and I love going to Michelin starred restaurants and make a point of going to these restaurants around the world. They have large furniture pieces that really add to the dressy zen vibe that could easily be removed to fit more tables. It also helps that they dont accept parties over 4. Top of my list and most impressive environment Ive experienced in a while. Almost felt like we were the only ones there - with the staggered dining times, we were indeed the only ones on our side for a bit.Price - not cheap but also not exorbitant - about on par with comparable restaurants. Their wine pairing pours are generous enough that you can share a pairing (which they openly encourage unlike some places that frown upon it or make it look like theyre doing you a favor)Overall - worth a visit if you like French with a modern flair. Worth going to even if you dont think you like French since its just so different. Long story short, all things considered its worth going to and Im looking forward to trying their menu in another season or so.

Tip: The unassuming exterior is easy to pass and miss, but inside Baume has been serving fine dining at a prix fixe price for years. Its a small space, so reservations are mandatory, but unlike many Michelin star recipients, Baume also offers a lunch option that is a very convenient and stellar choice for a special occasion.

A delectable eight course meal that is as beautifully presented as it is prepared. The ambiance makes everyone feel special with its exclusiveness. Its tasting menu only and no wine by the glass, so the already pricy meal is pushed to the next bracket by the even more expensive wine pairing options.

Baumé is very good, no question about that, but at about $250 per person for the tasting menu without wines, and another $250 or so for premium wine pairings, its significantly more expensive than their competition. There is a cheaper wine pairing for around $125, but you cant help but wonder how good it is if they have a premium one that costs about twice as much.If money is no object, you wont be disappointed, but if you think that almost $500pp with the good wine pairings is steep, there are other restaurants in the south bay that offer good tasting menus with wine pairing for 40-50% cheaper (La Foret, Manresa, Papillon, Sent Sovi, and Chez TJ depending on their chef of the day (chez TJ is unfortunately variable in quality)).One good thing about Baumé though is that service (tipis included in the price, à la Française. The wait staff was perfect, so you wont feel bad about the tip being pre-paid.

Ive been wanting to come to this restaurant since I read a review by a Googler. For starters - you dont get a menu. You get a list of ingredients and food just shows up. They will work around any food allergies or restrictions. The food is fantastic - fresh and interesting ingredients, fun combinations, perfectly executed. The chef did an exceptional job with textures in just about every course. Its a well-paced meal with impeccable service by a knowledgable staff who are more than happy to answer any questions you might have. ("What did you say about the butter?" "Its certified by the XXX in France.")The Michelin star is well-deserved. Its the type of place you reserve for a special occasion, but its definitely worth it.

Came here with my wife and her parents. Her dad had read about it and wanted to take us there. My wife and I had been curious about coming here for quite some time. Food was really delicious -- standouts were the filet mignon (which typically Im not a fan of due to lack of flavor), the lobster in one course, and the well-known 62 degree egg. Wine pairings were high quality, though overall I didnt find them particularly creative or pleasingly well-paired. Service was good though not without faults (accidental knock-over of water glass, eek).Overall, its not a place I would go again -- especially if I were paying for it myself -- since in particular for the price its in the same category as area restaurants that are far better in our opinion (French Laundry, Coi, Cyrus).

a total disappointment. they were so focused on the molecular gastronomy that they forgot to make the food memorable. the food was "good", but it lacked interest and it seemed terribly monochromatic. everything tasted more or less the same. the dessert really was not good at all. i would never go back. if all you were interested in was the science of food prep, even then they really failed to share with us what they had done. a total washout.

food was very good, and probably one of the few places you can get a whole truffle to use at your table. very fancy, in my opinion it was not worth the money. I felt like I was paying for each of the 15 forks they brought me. the food was good but you only get one bite per course and only 4-5 dishes were exceptional. so very good but not worth the bill. much rather have spent the money at the Plumbed Horse in los gatos or Le Papillon in SJ
