Battle of Britain Memorial - Memorial park in Dover, United Kingdom
Went with my wife and young grandson, the museum had various touch screens which brought up more information, the ceiling had the sky with clouds screened on it, and at various times youd hear the sound of a merlin engine getting closer, followed by way up above either a Hurricane or Spitfire flying over. There is also a mock up Hurricane cockpit which you can sit in, with joystick and screen, where you can scramble and intercept enemy formations, and a small room with mirror where you can try on various flying gear with helmet and goggles. Needless to say my grandson loved it.
A nice Memorial set in a lovely quiet area with beautiful maintained garden. The Scramble Exhibit cost extra, but is interesting. There is a cafe, with warm and friendly staff.
A great place to visit, with great information by using easy interactions technology. Great sound effects, video and you can even having ago at flying a spitfire in a little cockpit simulator. Then theres uniform to dress up in and a great gift shop and cafe. Its all set in a tranquil location with views of the sea and France. There are also planes, war names on the wall and the most amazing pilot statue sitting and looking out to sea. We booked up for the cream tea tour and would highly recommend this with the knowledgeable guide that took us around.
Certainly a fitting memorial for the few and standing behind the statue looking across channel you feel a sense of awe and appreciation for their sacrifice.Easy parking, with dog friendly grounds it was a pleasant way to spend an hour.
History memories hopeA wonderful peek into the past parking only a £1 an hour a wonderful couple of hours reading about the brave men and women very nice gift shop and a walk to cliff edge fantastic views across the Channel.Staff very helpful cafe goodI would recommend a visit for everyone interested in our history.
An amazing place to visit, really understand the history of those brave souls that allowed us the freedom we have today. I have been before but decided it was time my daughter and granddaughter had the experience and they both loved it. Outstanding and emotional. Free to enter but please donate to them to help keep it going for generations to come. Small parking charges apply.
Lovely trip the exhibition I felt was mot worth the money but entrance to rest of site was free & great views
An excellent memorial to those who reached for the skies giving their lives to protect our homeland.A well laid out and presented location with backdrop of the English Channel making it even more poignant.
Really interesting place to visit and the statue of the pilot is so evocativeRevisited Aug 2022 and this memorial still makes you stand and look out at the outline of France just over the Channel and think of those aircrew who were so close to home but who never made it.This is worth a visit and a wander around the grounds, on a clear day France is clearly visible which makes a visit even more evocative.Even the ladies loos have a lovely pic of a Spitfire on the doors
Great visit. Learnt a thing or two. Lovely memorial to those we lost ❤️
Lovely place to visit, the grounds are immaculate, the staff are all so friendly.
Very poignant memorial for the lost pilots of the battle of BritainEven so.....had a fantastic 3hrs here.....very informative. The previous review about the cafe from someone....is unjust...My coffee was fine....so was my partners chocolate.....The parking is ok also.......the meter did eat my first £2.....but all proceeds...including the parking fees...go to the memorial so that was fine by myself.....You would think the government would subsidise this type of memorial. After sending so many pilots to their death....Time well spent...ancestor found on the memorial....
A very moving place. The sculpture is superb and well done. The wing is laid out nicely.
A great walk. Suitable for the old, young and also families with children. Dogs only on a lead. Great views of the Cliffs of Dover and Folkenstone and nothing (the seain between. Free public toilets in "top of the top" condition. A restaurant where there are binoculars on the top floor. Excursion at reasonable prices, as well as parking. Souvenir shop. Beautiful monuments, people and their sayings, planes. Free view. Beautiful, I will definitely go again 5 of a 5!!!
Brilliant place to visitA fitting memorial to these very brave fliers
Fantastic memorial to the brave airman of the Battle of Britain. Incredible to realise how young the airmen were. Good café in the upper floor and interactive exhibits on the lower floor plus a gift shop and the opportunity to look up family members that may have taken part. Outside several aircraft and a memorial garden. Funny Spitfire adverts on the wall of the mens toilets!
A humbling, moving and very respectful monument to those who gave everything so that we could live as we are today.Lots of interactive exhibits in the main building which you have to pay a small fee but worth it!
Stunning location, very tastefully presented memorial displays
Really nice memorial. Low key, but respectful. The planes are actually life size fibreglass models of the originals. And by the way, mist people do not associate the name Bob with the famous dog of the Battle of Britain, but I suppose PC thrives even in this solemn place
A beautiful poignant memorial. Very well kept with a visitor center toilets, gift shpp and café. On a clear day you xan see France.
FantasticWell presented and looked after.Fitting tribute to all the brave men and women who we all owe so much.
It was lovely there not to busy. You could see across to France.
Superbly well laid out memorial ,with lots to see and admire. Rooftop terrace adjoining the cafe was superb in the summer sunshine .
Popped along here after BoB Airshow in headcorn although it was closed when I got here it was nice to be able to walk around and see the memorials to those who gave their lives in the Battle of Britain
A fitting tribute to the few. A visitors center and cafe sit on the cliff top at Capel le Ferne, nr Folkestone. The ground in front of the visitor center is a giant propeller with a statue of a seated pilot at its center. Around its base are the squadrons which took part in the battle and a wall nearby lists all those who took part. A replica Spitfire, Hurricane and a Stuka sit near the entrance to the site.
Well laid out memorial was there on a quiet day. One for contemplating how fortunate we were to have such dedicated and brave youngsters who gave their all sadly many paying the ultimate penalty our being disabled y the rest of their lives. Todays generation owe you much.Thank You.
Really good displays. Poignant. Great views and sculptures.
Were just back from a visit. Fantastic place! Really lovely. However, from a photographic point of view - that is THE WORST PLACING OF A RED SKIP & COLLECTION OF DIGGERS & TRACTORS E V E R ! Really spoiled my picture-taking fun!
Important for Britain, really friendly staff but for a foreigner a bit less. If you are near Dover, come over and make a stroll without charge.
Serenity as you walk around the well kept grounds.Well worth a visit even if you dont go into the museum. The car park closes at 17:00 but I didnt check before my walk, one of the staff came looking for me making sure I wouldnt be locked it, very helpful and friendly. The grounds are open 24/7 for pedestrians.
Totally unexpected a memorial of this standing. Its a credit to all involved in its creation as well as a fantastic tribute to "The Few".Well worth calling in if in the area. Grassed area with paved walkways, stand on the white cliffs and faze over to France.Very informative displays inside the building with a cafe/restaurant upstairs with views of the channel.
Very well done memorial for the British soldiers who fought in the battle of Britain.
Such a lovely place! So clean! The planes are so well maintained and so real!! And also, free!Dont forget to support the museum with a donation!
What a brilliant place. Especially on a beautiful, sunny day. The history, the views, the café are all wonderful and theres a very special feeling being there.
This place is just fantastic and well worth a visit unfortunately I was just passing between jobs so couldnt spend more than half hour but you could easily spend half a day here, plenty of things to see and also a simulator to have a go of, unfortunately I didnt have the time.. Enjoy the photos, its a unique part of british history that should never be forgotten.
Popped in today as passed many times before but never stopped there, beautiful well kept area which is immaculate, excellent viewing platform where you can look across to France on a clear day, coffee was very nice and sensibly priced, staff were very friendly and helpful, such a peaceful place to be.
Smashing place to visit - beautiful grounds and scale model planes. The chargeable interactive “Scramble Experience” was also very good for both adults and children. If you’re lucky you may get to see the local Spitfire fly over!Cafe was smashing with elevated views and very well priced food/drinks. Chargeable car park (take coins!).Marked down a star though as had confirmation from staff that dogs on leads were accepted in the grounds (after seeing a dog there). Told my parents who took their small dog only to be turned away!
On the day we visited the memorial was covered by sea mist which added to the atmosphere. Very poignant moment to think of all those young pilots who gave their lives for our freedom. Lest we forget.Earlier in the day I got the shot of a Spitfire flying over the sea.Its worth a few minutes of your time.
Free entry and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. A great tribute to the Battle of Britain. The names and information about those who died during the Battle are available. I had a delicious cream tea in the cafe which overlooks the whole site and beyond. A must visit for anyone with a relative who served in the Battle of Britain or for anyone wishing to know more about the momentous time in history.
Came across this place by pure chance on our way to Folkestone from Dover.I saw the aircraft from the road so we turned around to see what it is about. We stopped as I love Spitfires, but there is so much more than that. There is a real feeling of dignity here. The layout and position really draw you into a sense of just how important those pilots from the RAF were in our darkest hour.I have the upmost respect for those few, and this memorial really does pay them due homage. There is a really great shop stocked with items such as model aircraft, mugs, books etc, and a cafe upstairs. The staff there are extremely helpful and friendly as well. The whole place is wheelchair accessible as well which is great for me.We are already planning our next visit there with some of our family.
Visited here on a day when it was closed. But being able to walk around the outside of the building and looking at the planes that have been placed in various different ways. To top it off the views across the channel are stunning. The visit was back in December I bet when its open this is a very popular attraction to visit
Potential is huge. A great, flight-inspired building and lovely landscaping and views. But the Cafe: Deserted despite a sunny weekend. So many wasted opportunities! Instant coffee posing as cappuccino, food: greasy sausage roll or pre-wrapped muffin, bored staff with nobody to serve. Heaven help coachloads...Panoramic views of Channel, but absolutely no reason to visit the cafe. Compare it with the fabulous Clifftop Cafe along the cliff and youll give this BoB cafe a wide berth. Old, backwardly nostalgic thinking abounds, not a flicker of attraction - and they charge £1 per hour parking. Be ashamed and pity those poor veterans...
Been here a few times, its a really beautiful and free memorial with fantastic views, there a lovely little gift shop the staff are really helpful and friendly worth a visit
well worth a visit. Very tranquil and thought provoking.Greatly enjoyed the cafe. The view from the balcony is beautifulExcellent disabled access and facilities .
Fantastic place. Definitely worth a visit, run by volunteers and supported by donations. Interactive screens inside. Replica planes outside and the Wall of remembrance listing all the pilots who lost their lives. Its a beautiful place, tranquil and a view of the sea.
Took my two daughters to give them an understanding of what this place meant to the citizens of this country because of the sacrifices these brave people made.It was touching to see my daughters faces when they were reading the names on the wall and for them to see how many lives were lost to give them theyre freedom they have today.A lovely memorial and very friendly staff, will come back again in the near future.
Such a lovely place to sit and remember all the men and women that gave their all so that we can live free. They have a lovely cafe with outside seating, great views and very friendly, knowledgeable staff. A must visit for everyone.
It was very informative and if you go you must go into the Scramble room its only £6 per adult and you have different activities inside the room, Theres a cafe.
Beautifully kept, interesting, lovely little cafe with viewing balcony, made the day seeing spitfires flying over.
A very thought invoking spot, very peaceful and does justice to remembering the sacrifices of the few. When open the Wing has to be visited. The interactive displays are awesome. In addition some of the gun camera clips are unique. Also a must, is having a go in the flight simulator, it is based around a very realistic Hurricane cockpit.
