My daughter booked in after a long day on the train. Just to find a dirty disgusting room with hair on the bedding , dirty walls, fishmoths or paris-crayfish insects running around on the floor. She was also told to share a toilet with men.She tried numerous times to ask for another room... with no luck. The next mornig she asked for a refund.. the staff was so rude and gave her a email adress for complains and refunds. Also got no where with that. This is such a disgusting place... no wifi ! No clean bedding! Sharing toilets and showers!!!! South Africa is so so much cleaner and friendlier than this place!!!! What a bad experience it was!!!! With no refund!!!! Scammers!!! Sies MAN!!

I was not provided minimum necessities such as hand soap for the sink, towel for the shower, or adequate bedding materials, and when asked about these missing items, the staff gave me rental options for some of them. Daily lock-out period where your room is unavailable from 11-3pm. Wifi internet is slow and uses a clunky sign-in prompt user flow instead of a user/password login. Good location near metro and attractions.

Terrible place to stay. For this price, go to a Hotel. The Bastille Hostel is actually operated out of the Youth hostel next door which is a shame because they no longer appear to use the lovely breakfast area of the Bastille Hostel building...I will just put down the highlights as so many before have stated the same:-No towels, they cost extra- Continental breakfast is ridiculous. It includes a terrible coffee , a baguette with jelly, and some sort of sweet cake in a wrapper from the grocery store, and an orange juice box. The man operating the breakfast had terrible BO.- No AC in the rooms, its sweltering hot.- There is no soap whatsoever not even a small bar for washing hands.I would strongly avoid this place its a money trap and appears they are cutting serious corners to make extra money.

to everyone who thinks about staying for everything that is most sacred dont stay in this place my friend and I stayed for one night we went out to smoke in the front and two strange black guys came and they were on the same floor as we were they knew the number of the our room then they rang our door and said open give me the money because downstairs they saw us with iphone apple watch so they went to our room door knock asking to open and they through the door asking to pass money and cell phone a horror and to what me looks like the guy at the reception is an accomplice because I called the reception I begged them to call the police and tried to distract me with random questions and at the beginning I had a cell phone they came as if they were going to take my hand a very big story I will go to the police because I didnt sleep with fear that my door would burst open a night that was supposed to be quiet was a night of horror I left it all recorded and I go to the police to report them to me and everything agreed

One of the worst experiences. You are obligated to leave your room from 11h to 15h for "cleaning", although they dont really clean anything, only thing they did is take out the trash. We had a situation when I came into hostel in 3am from the ER with 2nd degree burns, still in pain and under a lot of painkillers. I wanted to have some rest the next day and sleep a bit. Even after explaining all of this to the guy at the reception they said it is not their problem and there isnt anything they can do about it.Breakfast is called "continental breakfast" and in reality it is just one piece of bread and jam. Not worth paying for it.You have to leave your keys at the reception every time you leave your room.Wi-fi in rooms is practically non existent, and in the lobby only works during certain hours of the day.You have to pay for towels and at the reception they only had one left and didnt get any new ones during our stay.In the room there isnt even soak for washing your hands and we couldnt fully close our window.Guests were constantly arguing and fighting with people at the reception because nobody is competent and everything about this hostel is ridiculous.Only good thing about this hostel is location.I would recommend avoiding this hostel, I booked it because Im a student and wanted a cheap accommodation but this is definitely not worth it, there are other options which are way better and maybe just a bit more expensive.

Its okay, but could be improved! There is only wifi in the lobby and only from midday on. The rooms do not have WiFi but they are clean. Moreover, even if you pay for private "bathroom " you have to share the toilet. And if you happen to stay on the 6th floor there is no elevator (stops on 5th)and you also have to go to the 5th for the toilet.

Nothing fancy but all you need if you are traveling on a budget. And if you are in Paris you shouldn’t be in a room all day anyway. It’s all you need to rest your head and shower. Clean, quite and friendly. I would recommend dishing out for the private room and shower but that’s just me.

Have been in cheaper hostels that were in MUCH better condition. Theres NO wi-fi, even though the website still claims that it works. They dont give you any towels, and theres no soap in the bathrooms. Rooms arent pretty, but it could be worse. Breakfasts are fine.

Booking a low price hostel I understand what I’m typically getting myself into...... but arriving here was a disappointment. I can deal with a poor room but I’m strict on a CLEAN BED. My sister and I both slept in our hoodies for the duration of our four night stay. The first night we arrived we immediately noticed that the sheets were not clean and the pillowcases had hair..... large amounts of it. We requested new sheets at reception and found ourselves in an argument as we would be charged 25$ more since the replacements were “nicer”.Breakfast was more along the lines of snackish. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.

Me and my sister booked this Hostel as we were seeing a band at the main arena, which is only a 20 minute walk away. The hostel is basic, but to be expected. Theres only one plug socket in the room, so be prepared for that. Theres a shower and a sink in the room and a separate toilet on each floor. Its good and cheap for one night. Breakfast is included but we didnt have it.However, the noise levels, oh my god. We stayed on a Saturday night on the 2nd floor and the noise from outside was unbearable. Even with earplugs all we could hear was music, screaming, shouting, laughing and talking. The noise level was so loud there was no way youd ever get any sleep. The beds were comfy, especially for a hostel however every single time you move the whole bed shakes and creeks. We couldnt sleep until 4am and we had to be up at 8am. Worst nights sleep Ive ever had in a hostel, and Ive stayed in a lot of places. But, for about £15 each and a good location, Im not mad, but I wouldnt do it again.

Lower your expectations...and then lower them again. The room is in very poor condition. for example - no door to the bathroom, shower head is in the middle of bathroom with no divide so the whole bathroom gets wet when you shower, also the shower didnt drain which meant the whole bathroom floor is wet until the cleaner comes, toilet lid was broken, lights kept flicking off, pillowcases had dirty marks on both pillows, the door lock did not work and strangers walked into our room at midnight. However, the twin room is heated well and spacious, and a basic breakfast is included.

Hostel really isnt as bad as everyone claims it is. Even the cheapest dorm offers great pillows sheets and duvets, with no bugs or discomfort to speak of. The room is at a good temperature and has large windows for ventilation ( if the toilet smells bad). Shower is not the best but still warm and the room is fairly quiet so long as other guests arent loud. Guests are kicked out for cleaning, but are told that prior to check in so shouldnt come as any suprise, and leaving for 11am really isnt that hard. Wifi turns off later, but is on in the reception till 01:00 so this shouldnt be an issue either. 30 year age limit is great as means there are less creepy guests and it is easier to get along, and rooms have safes so despite people talking about stealing it shouldnt be a problem. The main issue for me is that there is only one plug socket for the room (4 peopleso going to charge in reception may be your best bet.

- Absolutely the worst hostel experience I’ve ever had- Please dont stay in this place.- someone stolen my laptop, mobile, and camera in luggage room that anyone can get into anytime. The staffs didnt tell me they dont manage people who go and out that room and the cctv around that space doesnt work at all.- someone tore my backpacks zippers that were linked with each other not to open without my key.- i suspect a person who did this maybe a staff in here because my bag was moved from the place I put it for avoiding other customer. almost people using hostel dont do thing like this.- after stealing, the reception staff just told me the only thing they can do is to tell me where a police station is.

The rudest staff. They made an old senior citizen stand instead of giving her a chair. A lady came and screamed at them and gave the old lady a chair. I booked for two days and while Im waiting to get my key the rude cleaner man in 40s took my chair. I had been traveling for 16hours. There is no heat either. The lady at the desk is rude as well. Its freezing and raining outside and they kick people out and turnoff the wifi. People on here should be realistic. The place is awful dont come here😔😔😔place is freezing. Only reason it gets 3 stars is the trendy location near a shopping street, East Mamma restaurant, Bastille square, Ground Control etc. Also I needed place close to Accorhotels Arena for a concert. It was only 23 minutes away! But staff were rude and laughed when I asked for assistance for something they eventually couldnt fix. Had to figure it out myself! The room also stank although was clean. Toilet on separate floor although advertised as private bathroom. I was in 2 bed room.

First of all the location of the hostel is fabulous. You reach all main attractions within maximal 45 minutes by public transport and can even walk to a few with a little condition. Considering that the price performance is totally okay. However the staff is not really friendly and accommodating. At the first sight the rooms and showers look clean. Nevertheless if you pay close attention you see that they are not but still acceptable and passably hygenic. The common room is not really confortable and therefore there is not a "hostel feeling" if you are looking for that.Breakfast is a baguette, a package of butter and apricot jam, a madeleine, a package of orange juice and unlimited coffee (coffee is disgusting, black tea and hot chocolate (really sweet- nothing special but it does the job.We stayed one night in the bastille hostel (beds, desk, shower, sink, safeand in the auberge de jeunesse (beds, sink, safes). The room in the bastille hostel was better. (The two accomodations are basically the same - just different names). My friend and I stayed in a two bed bedroom so we had a room just for ourselfes! All in all you can definitely stay in the hostel for a few nights if you are not pernickety - just do not have high expectations. If you are on a budget you will not get something cheaper in paris.

I can’t believe this place has 3 stars. I wouldn’t even give it one. For me the biggest issue is security. You HAVE to leave the room from 11-3pm for “cleaning” (it’s still discusting that smells like lake water and peeand between that time you can’t even go get a jacket from your room. If you have to put something in your room they make you put it in the luggage storage that everyone has access to with their room key. I was getting dressed in my room and a staff member walked in without knocking at 10:30 when the door was “locked” from the inside, obviously that doesn’t work. Then again right at 11. They are not kidding when they say lockout is at 11, sketchy. The staff is rude, convoluted, and confusing. Breakfast is not really breakfast at all, just a piece of bread. Haven’t showered because they are gross and the water smells like well water or lake water, DON’T drink the water from the sink, not safe. I could keep going about how unsafe, unsecure, and unsanitary this place is. I wouldn’t mind it if it was a free place to stay but I paid a decent amount to have my basic human rights violated. Hopefully I don’t get any diseases from this hostel.

Terrible hostel. The food is the worst food that I ate in Paris. I stayed in a private room, but the bed make too much noisy. A big problem: there was not a bathroom in the room, not even in the floor!!! Everytime I had to go downstairs to use the toilet. If youre planning to go to Paris, spend a little more and choose a decent hostel.

Money saving Hostel in and enviously location near metro lines and bus stops. 11minutes walking to the Bastille. 25 minutes to Louvre. Rooms supply 1-2 beds with shower inside the room. Others include toilet but is not assured. Breakfast is included from 7-9:45am but i recommend you arrive the earliest possible so you can find a spot to sit. Reception is open 24 hrs and there is no curfew. Also there is an age limit to stay, you should be younger than 30.

There isn’t anywhere to store your belongings. There is a communal area downstairs where you put your stuff when they kick you out at noon for cleaning but they are not liable if anything gets stolen because EVERYONE has access to this space. The place smells and the staff is very disorganized. I gave them my iPad to take care of and they misplaced it in the 5 minutes that I was actually at this place. I walked up to the room and could not stay here. Terrible.

If you need a cheap place to lay your head, this probably isnt the worst option. I will say this, the bed was pretty comfy for a thin mattress. You get one blanket and pillow, which I was there in June so I didnt know if it was warm enough for colder seasons. The room is filthy. Lightly swept but has dirt caked in the sides. My shower was at the foot of the bunk bed, and a sink on the other side of that. You have to travel to a different floor for a toilet. There was only one outlet in the room, and it was weak so plugins would fall out in the night. We did have a wonderful window to keep open for a breeze in the summer, but youre located by bars and cafes. People will be loud all day, and until nearly 3am. This, for a college atmosphere, is not uncommon. But if you plan to travel hard, this isnt a good first stop or relaxing area.Breakfast closes early. They kick you out 11-3 for cleaning. If you head out in the mornings after 9:30am they have often started mopping floors where you will be walking. Most of the building doesnt follow US fire safety code. The elevator is cramped and slow, so try to avoid it. Luggage room is a musty basement with racks, and water in odd places for the luggage. Highly recommend you have bag locks and a cable, a hard shell bag or to tuck fragile things in the center. Try to do backpacking, as a wheeled suitcase would be a monster here.It is a little tricky to find, but Google Maps leads you right to it. It just has a tricky enterance. I ended up four nights here. Not terrible but definitely one of the worst places to try and rest in. No socialization area downstairs, its crowded and awkward seating arrangement doesnt offer much.

We ordered a private room with a twin bed and instead got bunk beds. The rooms only have one outlet and the hotel kicks you out of your room from 11 am until 3 pm. When you leave the hostel, you have to give your room key back to them. For what purpose, I have no idea. Probably wont come back here again.Edit: on our last day, the cleaner came in to our private room at 10:30 without knocking, when I was sleeping in my birthday suite. When I went down to tell the management about it on our checkout, he just said "sorry, Ill see who it was" with a smile on his face and not at all apologetic. If they take our keys, surely they would know whos still in their room and whos not.... Terrible. Just terrible.

It was such an awful hostel with kids running throughout the hallways day and night. The staff did little to nothing to prevent this from happening. I rented a private double room and the bunk beds were held together with caulking!!! I would try to climb the top bed but the entire bunk bed would fall (very flimsy)! Plus you have to leave your room from 11 to 3 pm. Foolish!

It was the worst hostel experience Ive had in my life. I strongly recommend not to stay in this place if you are looking for a good experience in Paris.1. Wi-Fi internet blockedFrom 1am to 12pm the internet wi fi is blocked by depriving guests of their use, forcing you to leave the hostel to go to other places like cafes if you want to use the internet.2. Expulsion from the roomThey have a rule that you can not stay in the room from 11am until 5pm, with the excuse of using that time to clean the rooms. First, they never warn you of this stupid rule, second, youre staying in a place paying a daily rate of 24hrs and 19hrs.3. Unprepared staffBesides the owner of the hostel does not speak English, everything needs to be resolved with him, neither the reception or any other part of the hostel have autonomy to solve any question you have at the hostel.4. MicrowaveLike the other stupid rules, you can only use the hostels microwave from 7pm to 12am. So if you want to buy something at the supermarket and want to warm up for breakfast, you are banned.Anyway, the hostel is well located and has a very cheap price, however all the headaches that the place brings does not make up for it. Enjoy your trip in a place with good energy and charm, not in a place that does not respect its guests.

Before I embellish on the headline, let me share some other frightening details about this establishment:1. WiFi only works between 12:30 pm and 1:00 am.2. You have absolutely no access to your room between the hours of 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm (even if youre staying in the same room for multiple nights)3. The bathrooms are such that there is one toilet every two floors; and when I say toilet, I exclusively mean toilet. So, when youre finished with your business, you have to go back upstairs to your room if youd like to use a sink. By most worldly standards, this is not only disgusting, but a clear breach of sanity requirements. Now about that headline: Yes, I was staying in a single bedroom. Before going to sleep, I double-locked my door with the security lock. At approximately 4:00 am, a drunk guest thought my room was his and inserted his key card. Magically, his key card worked, and the security lock proved not to be strong enough, for he successfully entered my room and alarmed me from an otherwise deep sleep. Amidst the darkness, I tried explaining to him that he had the wrong room, but he wouldnt agree and he audaciously turned on my light and looked around. It took me a few moments to register just to what extent my privacy was being invaded.I immediately signaled the front desk and demanded a compensation. The receptionist told me to email Mr. Stephine, because it was too early to contact him at 4:00 am. It just so happened that I was checking out early that morning anyway, so I emailed Mr. Stephine after checking out. I did not hear back until a week later, with the response: "You should have signaled the problem immediately when it happened." I responded that this is exactly what I did. Once again, another ridiculous excuse: "We cant do anything by email; youll have to see us at the front desk." One ridiculous excuse after another. If you enjoy being dictated by the front desk, tampering with sanity standards, and allowing your security to be breached, then this might be the right hostel for you. But, dear reader, I am assuming you uphold your dignity to higher standards and greater common sense. As such, I would advise you to stay far away from this dump.

Very weird layout in the room... The shower is in the room, only separated by a curtain. Theres only one plug too. You have to pack up your luggage every day because they do "cleaning" from 11-3 which is super inconvenient. You cant stay in your room during that time. The staff are rude, and the breakfast is meh. The experience of staying in Bastille hostel is the worst hostel experience I ever have. I never be so pissed off during the time when I stayed in hostel,The first night when I stayed in hostel , They had leaking problems which closed all water and it couldnt take shower during the night and it makes all toilets smelly without water. The wifi only offered from 7:00am to 23:30 which is super annoyed for travelers when We back pretty late at night but still need internet to look up some information.About offering free breakfast, the breads are really bad and it closed pretty fast. when it comes to cleaning hours , everybody should leave area and stand up for long time. I was looking for a cheap and convenient hostel in Paris to spend a weekend. The pricing was cheap (24 euros per person per night), and so I didnt go in to Paris expecting much at all-- somehow though, AIJ Paris still managed to disappoint. To sum it up:Pros:- Free Wi-Fi all over- Sinks in the roomCons:- No air conditioning at all. It was sweltering hot and humid when I stayed, and the room was unbearably stuffy. Sleeping was difficult, and I would get sweaty from just sitting inside the room.- No electrical outlets in the rooms. Seriously, what? To charge any electronics, you need to sit in the (crowdedlobby and use an outlet there. There is literally not a single plug in the rooms.- Forced to leave the room between 11am-3pm every day for "cleaning." Staff literally opens the door and makes you leave. Annoying because we would get back to the hostel after a night out around 7am... Also just generally annoying that you cant be in the room you paid for for 4 hours in the middle of the dayIm not a picky person at all when it comes to sleeping arrangements, but AIJ Paris was just an overall extremely mediocre experience. Ive slept on floors and couches before, but I wouldnt go back to this place.

A friend and I booked this hostel on our way to Paris from Sevilla. Once we landed in Paris my friend got extremely ill, shakes, shivers, and she couldnt eat. She had to buy a very expensive plane ticket home and I was left on my own. I bought a pricey last minute flight to be near friends that could help me out. Bastille hostels absolutely no refund policy meant that despite us not even staying there I still was still charged the complete full price of the hostel. The fact that I notified them in advance that morning we wouldnt be able to make it. Just dont stay here. Money-hungry and greedy establishments are never a good call.

First hostel we stayed in on our travels and although a little more expensive than our other places it was of good standard. We had a 3 person room for only two of us and on the last night were joined by a third person, but was lovely and friendly, as are most travellers.Rooms were clean and basic with a sink and plug sockets. There was also 3 individuals safes which were useful and easy to use. Shared bathroom on the floor which were clean and modern, powerful showers as well. The two times I used them showers I was the only one in there. Hostel as a whole was very clean.Breakfast is included, but is only one bread roll, some marmalade and a hot drink. Not much, but there is a convenience store just across the road with cheap food in.Staff were nice and hostel was buzzing as was the area around it, although felt pretty safe walking back at night. There is also a luggage room which we left our stuff in when we need to, everyone is leaving their luggage there and it is locked by staff so is safe. Also good wifi in the reception/dining area which is free!It is located a little way out of the centre of Paris and although it is walkable, the metro is so cheap and easy. We paid €1.60 for a single metro ride for wherever in Paris. We went from Gare du Nord to the Bastille region and walked but as the website said, the Ledru Rollin (line 8is the closest stop. The Bastille region is really good and lively, but still safe.highly recommend this hostel

My friend and I (both femalepicked this hostel because of its proximity to most popular sights. Most of the hostels we had looked into were further outside the city. While it wasnt terribly expensive, it was very crowded (we were traveling in May), had a generally unhelpful and not very knowledgable staff, and moderate (at bestaccommodations. The few positives: we had booked a private room in advance so we had plenty of space and privacy and the neighborhood is decent. Lots of coffee shops, fairly cheap restaurants and a supermarket is fairly close by. The downsides: shower facilities were one dorm-style shower per floor which consisted of little more than toilet stalls converted into showers. As a female, showering in that situation with several men on my floor was a tad uncomfortable and my friend and I ended up taking makeshift showers with the sink in our room for the rest of our stay. The "free breakfast" consisted of a piece of french bread with jelly and free coffee. There was one computer in the common/ dining room, but it wasnt free and was ridiculously slow. There is, however, an internet cafe down the street. And while the one-key-per-room rule wasnt a problem because we had a private room, it may be for anyone sharing a room with multiple roommates. If being close to the center of the city is important to you, its not absolutely terrible, but a slightly longer metro ride may be worth staying someplace a little less crowded and a little nicer.

1. A girl, travelling by herself, got sexually harassed by one of the staff. Before speaking to the manager a day later, every other staff member suggested she should "go talk to the guy." The guy who sexually harassed her said she didnt need to talk to the manager.2. It is your typical, not so nice youth hostel. But it will pass. The nice thing is that rooms are equipped with private showers in the room.3. Their so-called "luggage room" is the most foul-smelling place. It is not secure like they say it is - anyone could easily come in and grab whatever is unlocked.4. By far the worst service I have ever received. I found out, 5 minutes before getting into my single, that my room key was missing. They had no idea where it was and said they would "create a new key" for me in the morning. I dont care how little money I paid for the hostel - bottom line is that I am still paying for a secure place to sleep at night. If they dont know where the room key is, Im not sleeping in an unsecured room. I slept in my friends room instead. When I tried to explain this to the guy in charge (but not the managerand ask for my money back for at least 1 out of the 2 nights, he laughed in my face ("this is what you want to speak to the manager about?"). He was incredibly rude and refused to listen to what my friend and I were telling him. The best part? He claimed that the hostels priority was safety. No stranger could have gotten past the doors to the rooms without the front desk inquiring for a hostel pass. FALSE. My friends got past the doors easily, and the guy behind the counter that time had never seen our faces before. Oh and how about that sexual assault the other night?Crappy hostel, unbelievably terrible service, and ignorant staff. Judge for yourself.

For the price, this place is excellent. The 1-key rule is a bit of a hassle, but not a huge deal. They have a decent lounge, and the room had quite a bit of space. The building is basically a dorm. Oh yeah, and their internet actually works. The breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, or water and bread, butter, and jam or 3 different kinds of cereal... or both if you like! You can even wash your clothes here. The staff seemed like really nice people to me. I had no problems interacting with them, aside from my lesser knowledge of French. I think they appreciated that I was trying. I stayed in 3 hostels in Paris on this trip. This is the best, and its at the best price. I will definitely come back.
