Rue Saint-Julien, 51100 Reims, France, Reims
Medieval church, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, housing an abbey-museum & St Rémi's tomb.
One of the most impressive cathedrals in Europe. It is free and definitely worth a visit. If you scan the qr codes you will get detailed info about the history of the place. Spare some time to visit the cathedral.
Architecture dating from 1047. Of course several renovations were carried out in the course of time. Its listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Incredible overlooked church in Reims. Certainly worth a visit in between tours of the Champagne houses.
Beautiful place to visit... dont miss it!
A nice walk from the main attractions, Saint-Remi is a quiet and nice area to rest (theres a park nearbyand visit a very nice old romanic church. The only downside is the very modern pavement placed in front of the church which doesnt work well with the historical value of it.
Fantastic cathedral. Amazing stain glass in all sides of the cathedral.
Beautiful landmark, well maintained, a lot of history. Outside you can find a little park and restaurant.
UN World Heritage Site. Incredible architecture and tomb of St. Remi.
Quiet, dark, medieval
One of the most beautiful church from the mid age
worth the visit - nearly more impressive than then big cathedral
All these magnificent churches are going to take your breath awayThis might be the smaller church but still it is meticulous and gorgeous. Take a stroll inside. You will soon wonder How did the people build these ultra high ceiling structures that many years ago?Happy travels
The basilica has a particular design which I loved. And it reminds me of a tortoise. The museum of the same name is just behind. And to be in communion with God, one could stay in the beautiful gardens and parcs surround the basilica. Those spots were my favorite. In addition, there was a parc of bikes to rent not far. However for a foreigner it was a bit hard to get those e-renting bikes as the process of rental logged out when we needed to register our credit card. There was not another way to rent a bike in the city. We then just enjoyed walking around.
What a privilege to walk through this magnificent cathedral. Stained glass and history overload. Plus free entry
Dont miss seeing this when you are in the city. It is not as grand looking as the Notre-Dame but the history here is just as amazing and important. As a note though when we went we thought it was closed and walked all around the back and then around again and realized the entrance was on the side and you had to try the door.....to be honest, it looked closed and no one was around.
Nice historical cathedral to visit
Beautiful. Last time I was in Reims couldnt visit this exemplary Romanesque basilica. Today I enjoyed it! It is not exactly downy, but it is definitely worth a visit. Dalle du choeur de labbey Saint-Nicase exposed here is an extraordinary masterpiece.
Beautiful Church with a very interesting history. Never knew of Saint Remi until visiting and now will never forget!
Definitely worth a visit when in Reims
Amazing one of the prettiest and peaceful churches of Reims. You can get buses from Opera Cathedral and visit it any time during the mentioned hours. I loved it.
a master piece in the french history... a typical roman architecture church... worth the visit... try to find the right day to have the ORGUE concert playing
Beautiful Romanesque basilica. Rather dark, moody, and inspiring of pensive emotions. Elaborate tomb if St. Remi, medieval bishop. Attached is wonderful abbey museum of local history.
Exquisite architectural ensemble with a remarkable historical significance for French Christianity. A not to miss in Reims
Beautiful Cathedral... Must visit this place.. Calm and Serene
Another must see while in Reims. Not as elaborate or as big as Note Dame but beautiful
Superb!
interior better than the cathedral worth a visit
Lovely art and architecture
Highlight of Reims. Gorgeous, stunning, beautiful. Pay the €2 and put the lights on. Actually bring €4! Definitely worth the walk from the town centre.
Plaza in front is fenced off. Looks like they are resurfacing it. There is always something.Besides the noise (beep, beep, beep of the backhoe), the interior is unaffected. Worth a visit. Very historic church though much refurbished.
Very satisfying visit. The church building is very sombre but classically beautiful. There is a machine available where, for 2 Euros the lighting in the church comes on for 10 minutes and the the building takes on another look. The photographs are great then. Well worth the 2 Euros. Give it a try.
Austere cathedral (compared to the better know large Reims onebut with an interesting history as it is dedicated to St. Remy who started Christendom in France (baptising King Clovis).Worth a visit.
Breathtaking building thats worth a visit
The cofin of bishop who baptised the first king of France is laying in a state in a middle of this impressive, massive Cathedral.
If you like Gothic churches this is a must visit. Beautiful architecture and not as crowded as the ones in Paris. Really feels religious in the best ways.
Beautiful historical sight in the heart of Reims. Impressive architecture. A must-visit place in Champagne. Free entrance.
Saint Remi Basilica, about a mile from the Cathedral of Notre Dame of Reims, takes its name from the fifth-century Saint Remi, revered as the patron saint of the inhabitants of Reims for more than fifteen centuries. The basilica approaches the cathedral in size. Adjacent to the basilica stands an important abbey, formerly known as the Royal Abbey of St Remi. The abbey sought to trace its heritage back to St Remi, while the present abbey building dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The Saint Remi Basilica dates from the 11th, 12th, 13th and 15th centuries. Most of the construction of the church finished in the 11th century, with additions made later. The nave and transepts, Gothic in style, date mainly from the earliest, the façade of the south transept from the latest of those periods, the choir and apse chapels from the 12th and 13th centuries. The 17th and 19th centuries saw further additions. The building suffered greatly in World War I, and the meticulous restoration work of architect Henri Deneux rebuilt it from its ruins over the following 40 years. As of 2009 it remains the seat of an active Catholic parish holding regular worship services and welcoming pilgrims. It has been classified as an historical monument since 1841 and is one of the pinnacles of the history of art and of the history of France.
Beautiful from the outside. We did not go inside, it was locked. Around the church is a nice little park where you can sit on the bentch and enjoy between the trees.
This place is breathtaking. Must visit
Very nice Basiliek. Beautifull. The glass is still original. Rich history. With a monestery. Worth a visit if you are in Reims
Definitely worth the 25 minute walk from Reims centre, this is a lovely conserved Basilique with amazing stained glass windows, and with hardly anyone there is was very peaceful!
We stayed in a hotel in the centre. Hard for parking. We were right in the action. Bars & restaurants very close. Will return to explore again
Old and beautifull..need some reconstruction ...specially outside..
I simply loved this place. It doesnt look so great outside as the cathedral, but although its very simple, its also very beautiful. Sometimes they organize concerts. When you get inside you feel so peaceful. Please, dont miss this spot.
Darker (Partly Romanthan the Cathedral but huge volume as well. St Remi tomb deserve the visit.
An extraordinary experience. A powerful environment with 1000 years of history. Stained glasses windows are impressive and the 96 candled candelabra representing the 96 years Saint Remi lived is imposing. Well worth a visit before your Champagne house tours.
Very solemn, contemplative large basilica. Beautiful combination of Romanesque, gothic, baroque architecture. Check out St Remys tomb in the choir.
Good place to practice knowledge about Gothic architecture.
The most beautiful interior of a Romanesque style church in northern France.
Pretty stained glass and stonework in this Gothic basilica, which is surrounded by a park and an old square. Worth the short walk from center Reims.
