Piazza Duomo, 24129 Bergamo BG, Italy, Bergamo
Romanesque church with an ornate marble porch & a lavishly gilded interior hung with tapestries.
Amazing historical basilic, adult 3 euro, student 1
One of the most beatiful cathedrals in Italy. I was very much surprised.
Breathtaking interior. This is a must-see of Bergamo. Id recommend visiting in the evening. The basilica closes quite late, so you can visit after dinner when there are fewer people. They also play gorgeous baroque music to enhance the atmosphere.
This should be in the top 10 Italy sights. Incredible cathedral.
Very nice building. Worth of visiting
Definitely one of the most beautiful and grandly decorated cathedrals I have seen! Entrance price is not expensive.
If in Bergamo, this is a must see. Also liked that they piped in music, which does help with the setting.
Fantastic paintings from the middle ages and very peculiar architectural structure
Very beautiful church ♥️ a must visit
Great place
Amazing church. Its worth to buy ticket.
An incredible place. You must visit it! The price is lower than i expected. (3€ for adults and 1€ for 14-25 years old and 70+ persons. The architecture is amazing.
Definitely see it. Entrance is free.
A breathtaking collection of sculptures, frescoes, tapestries, paintings and more. It seems every inch has been used in praise of the Lord. The level of devotion invested in creating this beautiful place if worship us mind boggling. Stunning.
Magnificent church building, outside and inside, from far and from near. Its also free to enter and visit. The different rich decorations, the details and materials, to include massive tapestries, are just stunning.
Most beatufil church Ive ever seen
Stunning photo spot and a historical church
Spectacular cathedral. Free to enter. Located right next to many cafeterias and restaurants. Easy to get from Bergamo airport by bus or taxi.
Free entrance Basilica. The inside is stunning. All walls and ceiling are covered with beautiful tapestry and paints. To get you mood along they have nice classic music in the background.
Wow! This is a beautiful place. The tomb of Gaetano Donizetti is there for you opera lovers. If you visit the Citta Alta in Bergamo, head for the Piazza Vecchia and go in the church if it is open.
Beautiful church in the heart of the old city.
Impressive outside and inside. Dont forget the back door and the apse. Just beside the Colleoni Chapel is great. The frescoes on the ceiling were painted by Tiépolo.
Really beautiful, I spent a lot of time inside just looking at the ceiling and tapestries. So many details, a masterpiece. Worth the visit, believe me.
most beautifull church in Bergamo. Dont miss it
You must go to Bergamo only to visit this church. One of the most beautiful churches I have ever visited.
This basilica is truly different from other similar places. Not a single cm2 is empty - literally everything is covered with amazing art! The details are incredible, people probably spent lives preparing that.
One of the most beautiful churches Ive ever seen. Free entrance and photography is allowed.
I am at a point when I thought Ive seen all the churches (not really all but at some point they feel the same). But this church is really one of a kind, with the unique front, atypical orientation (you enter from the sideand rich and varied ornaments with tapestries and lots of smaller and bigger paintings and frescoes. The light is also amazing in the church as at midday the sun shines through the windows creating beams of light - truly a great sight. It is also free to visit, which is always a plus.
I have visited many Basilica around Europe but none is quite on par with this one. The interior is extravagant beyond words. Every meters is condensed with arts and history. Visiting this is one of the most breathtaking moments of our trip.
Impressive Church to visit. You get stunned by all the gold and the hand embroided wall carpets. Taking pictures inside is only allowed without flash. The front of the Basilika is stunning as well
I LOVE COMING HERE” is a must see, just remember “ is a place of worship God for centuries” be respectful and cover your body, you need to carry a big and long pashmina to cover or buy a kimono and keep it you will need it is you plan to visit as many churches as I did.
The prettiest church I ever been in my entire journey in Italy!! Its magnificent and filled with lots of painting all over the wall. The overall experience is perfect and its free!!
Beautiful place to visit. Its high on a hill at the old town of Bergamo.
Amazingly well preserved cathedral with some of the best baroque interior decoration I have ever seen. A true gem.
In this spectacular church lies the legendary composer Gaetano Donizetti..dont loose the opportunity to admire beauty of centuries combined with such artistry..!
Very beatiful old, uper town with a Basilica in the center and the Bergamo city in the botom.
This is one of the most beautiful religious structures I’ve ever seen! So many beautiful details and pieces of art! The only negative comment is that too many people come in taking pictures and filming like it is an attraction. There are pictures available online and you can actually see the whole place on google maps in 3D so please don’t go in taking pictures as it ruins the experience for others!
Nice panorama on top. Escalator available but to go to top You still need to climb narrow stairways (can be difficult for some older people)
Probably the best church you will visit in Northern Italy. Free to enter, but donations are accepted.A short bus ride from the Bergamo station and it’s recommended to catch the funicular for €1.5; well worth the trip. When you arrive at the top you’ll be greeted with lots of shops to peruse. The piazza at the top is home to this beautifully decorated, magnificent, church. For a great view of the surroundings (and a birds eye view of the Basilicaclimb the bell tower in the “Museo Nuove Storie” (there is a €5 charge but there is a liftjust on the right as you approach the Basilica.
What a beautiful building, so much to look at and take in. If you arei n the area its a must see place. Not sure I have ever seen anything quite as ornate and beautiful, certainly not in the UK thats for sure. Plan the time to visit, you will be amazed.
Amazing cathedral with a rich interior what is full of frescoes, tapestry, beautiful old icons, modelings and carved wooden furniture. It is the most beautiful church where u have ever been! Also you can listen a history of that place
Beautiful cathedral. We could not enter the main building.
I have seen many beautiful churches, cathedrals and monasteries all around the world, but gosh, this one beats them all! It was so stunning and awesome, literally took my breath away. I guess I will just let my photos do the talking because now words can describe the beauty I saw in this place!!
Very nice place, visit it;entrance is Free and you must absolutely see it inside!
Serine and peaceful...go to Bergamo, it’s worth the trip. Beautiful old city.
Most beautiful church I had ever seen
Outstanding both on the exterior and in the interior with artworks from the Middle Ages through the late Renaissance.
On 15th of August 1137 Gregory, Bishop of Bergamo, blessed the first stone of a new Romanesque building. The church was consecrated by Bishop Guiscardo Suardi on 25th March 1273.
Go if you can make it! I dont know when it is open. Amazing!
Very beautiful basilica. Awesome decoration. You should visit it!
