Gothic church set on an elegant square, with a grand rose window & views from the bell tower.
Very old Gothic Basilica. Well preserved. Nothing fancy. There was a concert inside tonight. Its only open a few hours a day to the public.
Must visit. Ancient Gothic street
Amazing guitar concerts!
Nice little church 😊
Beautiful Gothic church. We attended a solemn mass service here.
the imposing space of the basilicaimpozantan prostor bazilike
Beautiful and well maintained ancient temple.
Beautiful churc. Must see
We did not go inside but just sit at the square and have a coffee overlooking the basilica!
A beautiful church with lots of history. Toni gave us a tour and he was fantastic :)
Played a great role in uncharted 10/10
One of the great examples of Catalan gothic architecture. A jewel of the city and a great place to learn about the history of the city. Climb the tower for great views and return at night for a concert!
Dark and heavyset austere gothic church that is uninviting especially indoors. It also looks like it is in a some need of restoration, the interior in particular. The tops of the interior vaults and arches look dark and as if they were moldy. The smell inside is also funky, like mold has been a permanent resident for a good while. Not the most impressive church, not even for photos as it is too dark to get a really good picture. Id say see it, but dont bother spending too much time on exploring it, especially if youre pressed for time
A very beautiful cathedral. I was lucky to go to a guitar concert from an amazing artist! Everything was so beautiful.. Personnel is amazing, location has a vibrant energy and I felt the perfection and the passion of the performance artist in the most beautiful place!
Gothic 😍
We had the great fortune of coming here for a classical guitar concert. The acoustics were great and the small audience size made it such a special experience.
Beautiful place, such amazing history attached to this site
Incredible. Small yet magnificent
Spectacular Gothic church. Time took his toll on it, but its worth to go inside. It would be even better if window with stained glass were better exposed. Worth 5 euro ticket.
My favorite church as featured in the UNCHARTED movie staring Marky Mark and Spider-Man. In theatres now and home video soon!
Not only for religious stuff. Thats what I like the most of this place. Sacred in a lot of ways.
Very nice church with a beautiful rose window.
Something that makes this church special is that it has some giants on display, on the right in the entry hall.Giants are a whole part of Barcelonas culture, each one having its own history and personality. I honestly dont know the story of these ones.
Great architecture. Some tidbits of the church history inside given in English. I’ve really enjoyed the visit — note the various depicts of “Our Lady” on the side chapels — they are familiar yet uniquely different from what I know from my home country.
Beatiful church. We listened to a great ”Concert guitarra flamenco” 2014-10-28 with Luis Robisco.
incredible architecture! you need to see it with your own eyes)
Just adding a couple of extras about this lovely church. Check to see if there is a concert advertised at the entrance... When I was visiting they were selling discounted tickets in the hours before the concert (I caught a fantastic flamenco guitar concert of Spanish music by Ekaterina Zaytseva in the Capella). Also, dont miss the Gegants i capgrossos in the glass case just inside the main doors on the right. These figures date back to 1601 at Maria del Pi, but the Catalan tradition of giant figures probably goes back as far as the 13th century. Similar figures are found in other parts of Spain and in Flemish and Portuguese festivals. Outside the church, check out the architectural details in neighbouring buildings. On the weekends there is an art exhibition / market that has been going since 1975 and you can meet the artists. Plenty of tapas bars with tables in the square to choose from too.
Definitely worth a visit if you have more time in Barcelona. The Basilica is a lesser-known church and historical building than the Sagrada Familia or the Cathedral, but it has a charm of its own with a 14th-Century gothicness to it that is lovely, for those into this style. Entrance is cheap and funds the renovation of the church - renovations that are desperately needed.
I have always been captivated by this Basilica, I don’t know what is special with it. Maybe the magnificent Roseraie, the dimmed natural lights, or the beautiful square in front of it?PS : don’t miss the giant dolls by the entrance, the small museum in the basement
Every now and then there are Candlelight event by Fever. Beautiful basílica perfectly matches with classical music
Beautiful architecture and stained glass windows. Very peaceful inside as well. Garden out back had two cats in it as well, which I thought was lovely. Bathrooms were free to use with admission too, which was nice.
Wonderful ambience as the church is surrounded by a lovely little square , the church itself is impressive inside and out
Beautiful church and nice square around. This church was built during the 14th century in a Catalan Gothic style, however, in 1936 the church was destroyed by fire and later restored.Inside the church, there is a museum that displays gold and cutlery and also highlights the importance and history of the place. If you want to visit the treasure rooms and museum spaces, you should book in advance.
Very old church with amazing architecture. Loved all the mosaic stained glass windows.
One word AMAZING! If you want to go in, you need to book in advance. Tickets for a family of 4 is around €32.
Amazing lil city made of stone that hosts some cool fairs
Lovely gothic cathedral. General admission includes lift up to roof which was a nice bonus.
I recommend that you skip the lines and the crowds at the cathedral and come here instead. The tall lateral naves mean a high, open ceiling that gives it a feel more like an auditorium. For an extra €3.50 you can go up on the roof of you havent seen enough of the Barcelona skyline. Its in the Born neighborhood near La Ribera, so lots of fun places to go before and afterwards. Supposedly the most beloved church in Barcelona, you can read the book or watch the Netflix show "Cathedral by the sea" about its construction.
Very well preserved gothic style church that reminds of Notre dame cathedral in Paris
If youre looking to skip the crowds but want to see a church, see this one. €9 will get you a guided tour that takes you all the way up the bell tower for an unparalleled view of the city. WARNING: this climb requires comfortable shoes as you will be going up tight stone stairwells to impressive heights. Recommend no skirts. The climb is not an easy one. Tour is roughly one hour in length. This church is more accessible and personal than the cathedral.
Saw a flamenco guitar player here and it was stunning. The acoustics are amazing!
If you spend tickets will have a guide take us to visit and tell the history of this church, the highest top floor can see the 360 degree view of Barcelona, very amazing.
Gothic Cathedral. Built in the 1300’s - these places always take my breathe away. 4€ to enter and it’s definitely worth it.
Beautiful medieval church. Definitely take the tour and enjoy the tower, if youre not claustrophobic. The view is probably better here than the other towers and venues around the city. The whole church is even a graveyard inside. Very cool place!
Beautiful interior typical square exterior. Sad that so much was destroyed in the fires of 36. If you want excellent views and dont mind climbing a 14th century belltower this is the place to visit. The last 50 or so stairs are very small but the 360 view is the best in town. Not expensive interesting guide.
Beautiful Basilica in the centre of Barcelona, you can see it from Les Rambles (on the left, walking towards the sea), the staff are very friendly, I got to go up the bell tower just after sunset. The views of the city are amazing from on top of the bell tower.
Absolutely stunning place. Loved every minute of it. We had mass in the chapel there. There was so much to look at - the paintings, the decor. Everything was mind blowing.
I really like Gothic design churches. The church has a beautiful garden and you are allowed to use the elevator and reach the roof.
Nice view,,nice area to hangout,,beautiful architecture...
Beautiful Cathedral with a reasonable entrance fee. The stained glass windows are lovely and I really liked the room to the side that give you a good understanding of the history of the building. The garden was also nice with a couple of friendly cats who came to say hello when I came in.
