Historically beautiful building, the First Catholic Church of a new world, after Christopher Columbus discovery...👍
Good site 😎
Tour guide was great, it was just too hot.
Absolutely beautiful Gothic style church. The architecture was amazing, and the presentation within was mesmerizing. They do have audio selections for a multitude of languages allowing you know what you were visualizing.
It was very beautiful. Im glad they are restoring the church. Absolutely amazing!!
You have to visit this beautiful place . A must
We did not go inside but It looks beautiful from outside. Its next to the Columbus Park.
You cant go in as a tourist on sundays. Mass for believers is at 12. If you go in you have to stay for the entire mass and be properly dressed (ie no shorts.
Can I give NO Stars.....??, you have to PAY to get in.....???!!!!, this is a CHURCH......since when you have to pay to "visit the Lords house"???? I cant say how it looks in the inside because me and the other 6 people in our group refused to pay...., if we wanted to offer a gift while inside (we were wanting to do so), thats on us, but a fee to go inside..... Nope! Awful experience Dominican Republic.... take advantage of your beautiful nature and beaches but NOT your churches, thats plain WRONG!!!!
Beautiful. Small entrance fee. There was a wedding (or similar eventat the moment of my visit so the entrance was not permitted.
Beautiful architecture and full of history and old artifacts.Bad service from the front entrance security lady she needs to learn how to talk to people without being rude.
This is must visit atracción in Santo Domingo
The Cathedral of Santa María la Menor in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo is dedicated to St. Mary of the Incarnation. It is the first and oldest cathedral in the Americas, begun in 1514 and was completed in 1541. It is the Cathedral of the Archbishop of Santo Domingo who has the honorary title of Primate of the Indies because this cathedral was the first Catholic diocese and the oldest cathedral established in the New World. Located in zona colonial Calle Isabel la catolica y Calle El conde near republica dominicana. Dr..
A must see in Santo Domingo. History before your eyes. Beautiful
Very beautiful and it is good to visit to learn part of our history.
Impotant history here...place is well maintained.
Magnificient Cathedral in old colonnial city Santo Domingo, DR.
What a beautiful place — had the pleasure of attending a wedding here. Having seen many European cathedrals — have to say, this one’s unique and has the Americas’ spice to the European flavour
The first Cathedral of the AMERICAS; La Primera Cathedral de las AMERICAS... EVERYTIME I GO THERE I FEEL GOD IN THE SPIRIT !!! GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU !!!
Beautiful church, but I found it offensive that they forced me to wrap a blanket around my waist AND over my shoulders because I was wearing shorts and a tank top. They were very rough about it, literally touching my body to forcibly put the blankets on me themselves (I think because we didnt speak the same language so they couldnt communicate with words what they wanted me to do). I felt very violated by the manhandling for one thing, and by the inference that somehow my bare legs and arms were offensive to God.
I love the peace 💙 is a gorgeous arquitectonic piece of art! With so much history involved. One of the treasures of my country.
I am not religious but I can appreciate the beauty of the building
Breathtaking cathedral, the oldest Cathedral in the western hemisphere. Gothic archecture with native stone. So unique and in such great condition.
Great space, beautiful and well preserved historic building. Free entry for locals or 50 bolivars to foreigners. Do remember it is still a working church. During my visit, a wedding was taking place, that added a special touch. Remember to walk outside at the back of the Cathedral as the building itself is amazing.
Nice place to see
I strongly recommend paying the 70 pesos for entry and audio guides... Purchase tickets in the office across from the shelter with the audio guides..... Women wearing shorts are required to cover up with a small blanket n that is provided. Men remove hats.
Wonderful place. Specially at night.
Has absolutely great time!!! Wish to be back.
Is only $1 so is worth it. It doesnt take long to walk around and see everything that theres to see. It has an interesting architecture.
Beautiful cathedral with a long history. I didnt think the audio was worth it unless you want every detail about every single chapel. (I was looking for more historical info on the cathedral in general.)
Is a beautiful and blessed place to visit when visiting Santo Domingo
Amazing!
The Santo Domingo Cathedral is a lovely building, and sits on a beautiful square full of local people enjoying the afternoon.
The cathedral of Santo Domingo is the oldest in America built in 1504.The architecture of the building of the Cathedral of Santo Domingo is characterized by Gothic style with ribbed vaults, solid walls and three doors, two of them gothic in contrast to the third and main Plateresque Gothic style. It is located between the streets Archbishop Meriño and Isabela La Católica, next to the Colón Park; leaving its main door to the west, facing the Archbishop Meriño street, almost corner Archbishop Nouel. If you visit the city for the first time or if you live there, it is an essential stop.
Beautiful historical church! A must see if youre in the Capital of the Dominican Republic!
Pity that poor locals or humble ones have no access to these areas!
Nice, the first cathedral in america... cool
Very beautiful place to connect with the holy Spirit
Beautiful and a really old construction
Full of history place. Beautiful inside, park and surrounding areas.
The church is very beautiful and antique but inside look amazing and peaceful.
A beautiful Gothic structure dating back to 1540.
Beautiful church, full of history... A must see if in Santo Domingo
One of the only monuments maintained in the city
Beautiful ancient church. Very useful and cool opportunity to listen guide explication
1st church in America. Audio guide through the church. This monument is not only a church but also a "religious" museum. Enjoy the visit.
This is the oldest Catholic cathedral in the hemisphere. Structure is made of sea ccoral. Very well kept and beautiful on the inside. Numerous interesting historical and religious artifacts inside. Has access to tunnels used by pirates to escape authorities. These tunnels are not open to the public.
Very cool historical monument. A must see in Santo Domingo. The architecture was amazing and with the 14 chapels to see on the sides. It was a memorable experience.
Beautiful, historic church in the Zona Colonial. Reading the signs posted at the various points of interest around the church provides a good history lessen. The different styles of architecture used to build the various alcoves as the church expanded is also interesting. Well worth the time for a leisurely visit to history back to the 1500s.
Oldest cathedral and they have a 500 and something year old painting worth checking out. Wear pants longer than your knees or you’ll have to use a scarf to cover yourself. Dominicans get in for free tourist have to pay.
